My Gorgeous Wife Relies on Her Beauty to Commit Crimes - Chapter 1.4
Shen Jin’s brows furrowed tightly.
Xie Jing explained, “We went there once after returning to the country, Shen Tuo’s friends took us. I thought it was too chaotic and didn’t like it, so afterward, Shen Tuo went alone. He stopped bringing me because he said I ruined the fun.”
Shen Jin glanced at her but said nothing.
Xie Jing continued, “Auntie, what did Shen Tuo’s text say?”
Shen Jin finally spoke in a low voice, “He said he’s about to die at the Jue Ming Bar and asked me to send someone to save him.”
Xie Jing muttered softly, “Shouldn’t we call the police then…”
Shen Jin considered it, but with her engagement to the Luo family imminent, she didn’t want any more scandals, especially one involving Shen Tuo’s romantic entanglements. After all, the domestic scene wasn’t like abroad too many eyes were watching them.
She shook her head, resting it against the headrest of the seat behind her, closing her eyes to relax.
The car was filled with a faintly intoxicating perfume. Xie Jing’s nose twitched as she sniffed curiously, it was the scent of “Mountain Rain After Dawn,” evoking the damp earth sprouting moss after a downpour. Closing her eyes, one could almost feel the misty air. The fragrance carried a Zen-like serenity, hardly what one would expect from a rising businesswoman. Xie Jing thought Shen Jin should be sharper, more cutting like a stunning rose covered in thorns, where anyone who tried to get close would end up wounded.
Xie Jing’s lips curled slightly as she noticed the faint shadows under Shen Jin’s pale eyelids, a sign of exhaustion. Yet, the sharpness in her gaze betrayed no weariness.
“We’re here,” the driver announced. Shen Jin opened her eyes and turned to the left, where two bold crimson characters, “Jue Ming” loomed ahead.
Naturally, Shen Jin wouldn’t charge in unprepared. Two bodyguards had followed in another car and now stepped out.
Shen Jin opened the car door, letting in a gust of cold wind that tousled her hair. She turned to Xie Jing and said, “Wait in the car.”
Xie Jing and the driver stayed behind as Shen Jin entered Jue Ming Bar.
Jue Ming Bar operated on a strict membership system. The security at the door was about to check Shen Jin’s credentials when the bodyguards swiftly subdued him. Shen Jin strode inside, radiating an icy aura.
Inside, chaotic music blared. Though billed as a private club, it was just a more debauched version of a regular bar. On stage, a stripper bared it all, blowing kisses to the crowd, while the floor was a writhing mass of revelry.
Shen Jin frowned in disgust. Her eyes darted around before she checked her phone, where a red dot marked the location. Finally, her gaze settled.
“Boss,” the bodyguards followed her in. Shen Jin nodded toward the commotion, and the bodyguards cleared a path as she walked behind them. No one dared get close even the rowdy youths who were shoved aside froze under a single glare, swallowing their curses.
As Shen Jin drew nearer, she saw her useless son being held up, beaten black and blue. On the couch in front of him sat a striking young woman, surrounded by an empty circle clearly, no one dared cross her. The crowd kept their distance, lost in their own revelry.
The girl wore exaggerated makeup, clad in a leather jacket and a short skirt. Her heavily lined eyelids lifted lazily as she swung one crossed leg in the air, sneering, “So, you’re the little punk who couldn’t behave? Number Eighteen is my dancer. You think you can challenge me without the clout? Ever heard whose turf I run on?”
Two burly bodyguards held up a limp Shen Tuo, who spat defiantly, “I’m from the Shen family! Let me go! When my people get here, you’ll regret this!”
“The Shen family?” The girl scoffed. “The only Shen I know is Madam Shen of the Shen Corporation. Who the hell are you? If Madam Shen were here, I’d give her face. But a pretty boy like you? Forget it.”
With a wave of her hand, the bodyguards began dragging Shen Tuo away. Panicked, he flailed wildly but couldn’t break free.
“Wait! I’m not lying! I really am from the Shen family! My mother is Shen Jin! Let me go now!”
Making a complete fool of himself.
Shen Jin pressed her lips together, her aura murderous.
The young woman turned her head and motioned for the trembling woman beside her to feed her a drink. The scantily clad woman, hands shaking, brought a beer with a straw to the young woman’s lips.
Shen Jin couldn’t actually let anything happen to Shen Tuo. Though she’d love to teach him a lesson, the Shen family had only this one remaining heir. She had promised Old Guan to take care of Shen Tuo and groom him as the next successor.
Shen Jin stepped forward slowly, having long recognized who the young woman before her was.
“Miss Chen.”
Chen Song looked up and saw Shen Jin, her eyes instantly lighting up like 500-watt bulbs. “Boss Shen, what brings you to a place like this?”
She pushed away the dancer feeding her, Eighteen, and shyly tugged at her cropped leather jacket that barely covered her stomach. Stepping over the scattered beer bottles on the floor, she stood before Shen Jin.
“It’s messy here. Why don’t we go upstairs to sit?”
“No need. I’m here to pick up my son.”
Chen Song’s face fell. “People say you had a child out of wedlock, but I never believed it. Boss Shen doesn’t look like she’s given birth at all still so radiant and beautiful.”
Chen Song licked her lips shamelessly. “I’ll let him go if you give me a kiss.” She even gulped audibly, practically drooling over Shen Jin, leaving Shen Tuo dumbfounded. This wasn’t how she had treated him earlier she’d been ruthless and wild, just because he wanted to book the strip dancers for the night. She’d had her people beat him without even letting him speak! Absolutely despicable!
“Mom! Make her let me go!” Shen Tuo struggled, but the bodyguards on either side held him tightly, giving him no chance to escape.
“Miss Chen, you jest.” Shen Jin remained unshaken. She lifted her gaze slightly and said softly, “Last time I arranged security for a client, I ran into Chairman Chen. He joked that you’d matured and could take over the family business.”
“Tonight’s drinks are on me, as an apology for my son’s rudeness.”
The Chen family specialized in security, mainly employing retired soldiers or mercenaries to provide protection for clients. Miss Chen, Chen Song, was specially trained, a few men wouldn’t stand a chance against her.
Chen Song pouted, unwilling to back down. “Boss Shen knows exactly what I mean.”
She waved her hand, signaling her people to release Shen Tuo. Shen Tuo scrambled behind Shen Jin, wincing in pain, only to hear Chen Song confessing to his mother.
“I’ve been pursuing Boss Shen for so long, yet you won’t give me a single chance.”
Shen Jin replied coolly, “We’re not suited.”
“Why not?” Chen Song protested. “If Boss Shen thinks there’s something about me that doesn’t fit, I can change!”
Shen Jin said nothing.
Shen Tuo, hiding behind his mother like a dog relying on its master’s power, smirked triumphantly at Chen Song’s rejection.
Chen Song’s anger flared. With a sharp motion, she grabbed an unopened beer bottle from the floor, cracked it open against the coffee table, and thrust it toward Shen Jin. “Fine, I’ll let him go, I can’t refuse Boss Shen’s face. But you have to finish this entire bottle. Then we’re even!”
A cold smirk twisted Chen Song’s lips, revealing a vicious expression.
Such a strong bottle of liquor would be too much for most people. Chen Song thought Shen Jin would refuse after all, Boss Shen was a smart woman, and smart people didn’t do things that harmed themselves. Once Shen Jin declined, she could seize the opportunity to make her request.
Chen Song nodded at the bodyguard standing behind Shen Tuo. The two men immediately grabbed Shen Tuo, who let out a terrified scream, “Mom! My mom’s here! You can’t touch me!”
Shen Jin’s expression turned cold. Faced with Miss Chen, the bodyguards she had brought were no match for her.
She knew what Chen Song wanted, but she had no intention of giving in. Chen Song didn’t understand her well enough.
Yes, she liked women, but she would never get involved with a business partner.
Shen Jin’s icy gaze fell on the brown liquor bottle. Without a word, she took it and said coldly, “Miss Chen, keep your word.”
She tilted her head back, the cold liquid sliding down her throat and wetting her red lips. Her chin lifted, the pale column of her throat moving as she swallowed, the slightly open collar revealing a hint of delicate collarbone, mysterious and alluring. The bottle was soon emptied.
Chen Song stared, transfixed. She had never seen this wild side of Shen Jin before. In public, Shen Jin was always the epitome of rationality. Chen Song had thought she was drawn to intelligence though, of course, the person had to be equally attractive.
Shen Jin lowered her eyes and smashed the bottle.
A whole bottle was indeed too much. Tiny figures seemed to dance before her eyes, but when she set the bottle down, her face remained composed. Alcohol never flushed her cheeks, and even when drunk, she always knew what she was doing. No one had ever caught her drunk before, and this time was no exception.
Chen Song could only glare in frustration before reluctantly letting Shen Tuo go.
Pouting, she said, “I just wanted to go on a date with you. Was it really necessary to reject me like this?”
Naturally, Shen Jin didn’t answer. She struggled to walk in a straight line, making it out of the bar and to the car before finally collapsing and vomiting messily.
Shen Tuo, who had been pretending to be dead beside her, was startled. But before he could react, someone from inside the car reached out to steady Shen Jin, patting her back worriedly. “Auntie, why did you drink so much?”
Shen Tuo deflected, “It wasn’t me! She drank it herself!”
Xie Jing sighed at the bruises on his face. “I’ll take care of Auntie. You should clean yourself up too.”
Shen Tuo visibly relaxed.
He had never seen Shen Jin so vulnerable before, and it had genuinely frightened him. He was at a complete loss until Xie Jing came to his rescue.
Xie Jing helped Shen Jin back into the car, and the driver set off for home. Softly, she asked, “Are you okay?”
“I’m fine,” Shen Jin answered dutifully.
Xie Jing couldn’t quite gauge her state. Shen Jin sat rigidly upright, hands properly placed on her thighs, eyes fixed straight ahead. Xie Jing ventured another quiet question, “How much did you drink?”
Shen Jin hesitated, her back stiff as she thought for a long moment before replying, “One bottle.”
Xie Jing was even more uncertain now.
The two sat on opposite sides of the car when suddenly, the vehicle jolted. Shen Jin swayed and toppled sideways, landing on Xie Jing’s lap. Xie Jing called softly, “Auntie?”
Shen Jin’s eyelids drooped, unresponsive.
Xie Jing chuckled, but then Shen Jin suddenly murmured, “Mm.”
Xie Jing poked her cheek, realizing now that the woman was drunk her reactions were noticeably slower than usual.
To the driver, she said, “Drive smoothly. Boss Shen is drunk.”
Placing Shen Jin’s head on her lap seemed to bring some comfort, as the tightly knitted brows finally relaxed. Xie Jing turned on the high beams of the oncoming car, illuminating the interior. She noticed Shen Jin’s neck was flushed red, but her face was deathly pale clearly not feeling well. Her body was burning up.
Xie Jing looked down at Shen Jin’s stunningly beautiful face, as fair as snow and frost, her eyes dark and unreadable.
Shen Jin was difficult to approach when sober, only by taking risks could one achieve their goal.
When they arrived at the Shen residence, Shen Tuo moved to help support Shen Jin, but Xie Jing blocked him with a cryptic smile. “Auntie seems a bit drunk. I’ll take care of her, you should rest.”
Shen Tuo trusted Xie Jing completely, making it easy for her to succeed.
Xie Jing brought Shen Jin back to her room and waited until the housekeeper left before sitting by the bed. In a low voice, she asked, “Auntie Shen, if you don’t say anything, I’ll take it as your consent.”
Then she kissed Shen Jin.
The warmth of lips against hers made Shen Jin open her eyes. Seeing a face both unfamiliar and familiar, she didn’t resist. Instead, she pressed Xie Jing’s head closer, deepening the kiss.
