My Gorgeous Neighbor Is Cooking Every Day - Chapter 52
Chapter 52
Jiang Yingyue spoke so clearly that it took Xia Xingye a moment to register what she said. She immediately rushed to the bedside, then worried about hurting her, she awkwardly held her hands suspended in mid-air, and finally pulled them back, asking softly, “Really? You’re not joking?”
“Of course. I can tell you anytime you want to know.”
She looked at Xia Xingye, her eyes open and sincere. The scrape at the corner of her eye hadn’t healed, but it added a touch of allure.
Xia Xingye’s gaze was somewhat evasive. She felt inexplicably shy and whispered, “I trust Jiejie. Whenever Jiejie thinks it’s a good time to tell me, then you can tell me.”
Just one look from Jiang Yingyue was enough for Xia Xingye to compromise immediately. On second thought, she wasn’t that anxious. She was just worried about missing something.
If Jiang Yingyue felt she didn’t need to rush to know, then she would relax and wait for the day she remembered herself.
“Are you sure you’re not anxious anymore?” Jiang Yingyue asked gently, smiling warmly at her.
Xia Xingye nodded seriously, “Not anxious.”
Why would she distrust Jiang Yingyue? It was because Jiang Yingyue was here that she was here now.
A bird flew by outside, and its clear chirping came through the window.
Jiang Yingyue instinctively looked. A small bird was perched on the windowsill, standing quietly. Seeing her look, it chirped twice at her but showed no intention of flying away, standing there steadily.
Xia Xingye followed Jiang Yingyue’s gaze. Seeing it was just an ordinary bird, she asked softly, “Do you like it, Jiejie?”
Jiang Yingyue turned back to look at Xia Xingye and asked her, “I want to go on a trip for a while. Do you have time to accompany me?”
“Of course I do!” Xia Xingye said without thinking. “I can take leave from school. I’ll get the lesson plans from the teachers in advance and borrow notes from friends. I definitely won’t fall behind.”
In just one second, Xia Xingye had sorted out the school matters, leaving Jiang Yingyue no reason to refuse.
Jiang Yingyue found it amusing. Xia Xingye was worrying about unnecessary things again.
Compared to her, Xia Xingye was the one with more insecurities.
Back when Xia Xingye had hesitated to be with her because she was afraid they would separate in the future, Jiang Yingyue felt it was an expression of her lack of security.
Jiang Yingyue felt a little helpless, but not annoyed.
Before Xia Xingye lost her memory, Xia Xingye had already confided in her, laying bare her inner feelings.
Jiang Yingyue never liked to make promises because she couldn’t predict the future, but facing Xia Xingye, she knew she wouldn’t betray Xia Xingye’s trust.
“Is there anywhere you want to go?” Jiang Yingyue asked.
Xia Xingye shook her head and obediently said, “Anywhere Jiejie wants to go is fine. It doesn’t matter where I go.”
What was important was not where they went, but that the person by her side was Jiang Yingyue. That was enough.
Jiang Yingyue was not surprised by Xia Xingye’s answer.
“I do have a place I want to visit.”
Xia Xingye nodded, indicating that it was all up to her.
But Jiang Yingyue didn’t continue.
Xia Xingye blinked and asked, “What’s wrong, Jiejie?”
“You have no objection to anything I say?”
“Of course,” Xia Xingye said. “If Jiejie needs cooperation, just say so.”
She kept calling her “Jiejie,” and her words were very sweet.
Jiang Yingyue lowered her eyes, somewhat overwhelmed.
Only Xia Xingye would call someone she had only just met “Jiejie” so unguardedly, with a familiarity as if they had known each other eight hundred years ago.
Clearly, the current Xia Xingye couldn’t remember what had happened between them, yet she still trusted her wholeheartedly.
This trust made her feel warm all over, an indescribable joy.
“Jiejie,” Xia Xingye called out.
Jiang Yingyue lifted her eyelids and suddenly asked, “Do you call everyone ‘Jiejie’?”
“No!” Xia Xingye said anxiously. “I’ve only called you Jiejie. I haven’t called anyone else Jiejie.”
Xia Xingye patted her chest and swore, “I call everyone else by their names. Even for a respectful address, I’d only say ‘Jie,’ not ‘Jiejie.'”
In her memory, she was indeed like that. As for whether she had ever called anyone else “Jiejie,” she really had no impression at all.
She only remembered being this affectionate with Jiang Yingyue.
“Come here.” Jiang Yingyue raised her hand, accidentally tugging the IV needle in the back of her hand, and sucked in a sharp breath.
Xia Xingye quickly came forward, blew on her hand, gently lowered it, and said, “Just call me if you need anything.”
“It’s fine,” Jiang Yingyue said. “Before we go out to play, I want to settle some things.”
“Tell me, Jiejie.”
“Those three people who brought us back before, help me contact them.”
Xia Xingye nodded and asked, “Should I ask them to come over? Or can it be done online?”
“Either way, whatever is convenient for them.”
“Okay, I’ll contact them.” Xia Xingye acted immediately. She first contacted Xia Wenyao and got the contact information for Sheng Rudong and Mi An through her.
Sheng Rudong heard that Xia Xingye had something to discuss with her and just chuckled, “I’ve been waiting for you to contact me. If you hadn’t, I was going to come looking for you anyway.”
“Can it be today? Should I go over now?” Xia Xingye looked at Jiang Yingyue and asked, “Jiejie, Sheng Rudong said she could come over now. Is that okay?”
Jiang Yingyue nodded, and Xia Xingye told Sheng Rudong on the phone that it was okay.
When she contacted Mi An later, Xia Xingye was surprised to find Mi An’s number saved on her phone.
She called the number. Mi An answered and immediately asked, “What’s wrong? Do you need my help? Is the situation not good?”
She was clearly worried about Jiang Yingyue’s injury.
Xia Xingye said, “The doctor said the situation is stable, but Jiejie said she wanted to see you all. She wants you and the girl who was with you at the time to come over.”
“Of course,” Mi An asked, “When?”
Xia Xingye thought that since Sheng Rudong was coming today, it would be better to have them all come at once to avoid disturbing Jiang Yingyue’s rest every day. She said to Mi An, “If you’re free today, just come over today.”
Half an hour later, the three of them arrived together.
Sheng Rudong walked in front, while Mi An held Deng Xing’er’s hand behind her. Deng Xing’er was holding a sugar-coated hawthorn skewer, taking a bite herself, and then offering a bite to Mi An.
Upon entering, Mi An patted Deng Xing’er’s head and said, “You sit on the side.”
Then, she and Sheng Rudong walked to Jiang Yingyue.
“I can talk to the two of them. You go keep Xing’er company,” Jiang Yingyue told Xia Xingye.
Xia Xingye was slightly confused and led Deng Xing’er out.
She stood by the door, pressing against the ward door, trying to hear the conversation inside, but then she heard Jiang Yingyue’s resigned voice: “Don’t eavesdrop.”
Xia Xingye had no choice but to step back.
Deng Xing’er chewed on the sugar-coated hawthorn skewer, glanced at Xia Xingye, and quickly looked away.
Xia Xingye chuckled and said, “Why are you hiding from me?”
Deng Xing’er said, “You’re a bit strange.”
“Am I strange?” Xia Xingye didn’t think so. “How am I strange?”
“Did you hit your head?” Deng Xing’er pointed to her own head and asked, “Why don’t you remember us?”
“I knew you before?” Xia Xingye was surprised. “I knew you before?”
Deng Xing’er didn’t say anything more, pointing to the ward, and asked her, “Didn’t your Jiejie tell you?”
“I’m not anxious. I’ll remember eventually,” Xia Xingye said stubbornly.
Deng Xing’er crunched on the sugar coating of the hawthorn skewer, muttering, “Okay, then why did you ask us to come here?”
Xia Xingye glanced at the ward behind her and said with a puzzled look, “I don’t know either.”
Jiang Yingyue asked her to call them over, but then asked her to take Deng Xing’er out of the ward after they arrived. Was there something she shouldn’t hear?
After waiting for a while, before Jiang Yingyue inside could call her in, Xia Xingye looked sideways at Deng Xing’er, who was focused on eating her hawthorn skewer, and asked, “You said we knew each other before. How did we know each other?”
After returning to the ward, Sheng Rudong and Mi An left, telling Jiang Yingyue to rest well before they went.
Xia Xingye watched them leave, then asked Jiang Yingyue, “Jiejie, what did you talk about?”
“It’s related to my work,” Jiang Yingyue said.
Xia Xingye was confused.
Just as she was about to ask, Jiang Yingyue pulled her arm gently.
Xia Xingye didn’t dare to struggle for fear of hurting Jiang Yingyue, and was pulled to sit on the edge of the bed.
Jiang Yingyue’s bed was cranked up, bringing the two of them very close.
Jiang Yingyue said softly, “Thank you for coming back for me.”
This statement further affirmed Xia Xingye’s belief that they had known each other before and that she might have been captured with Jiang Yingyue but managed to escape. Otherwise, where did the word “back” come from?
The hand that was now holding Xia Xingye’s had some small wounds from the IV drip. There was a band-aid on the back of her hand. When the IV was administered again, it was in the other hand.
Xia Xingye took Jiang Yingyue’s hand and gently placed a kiss on the back of it.
This action startled both of them, and they looked at each other.
Xia Xingye was about to apologize when Jiang Yingyue asked steadily, “Do you want to kiss me?”
Xia Xingye’s face immediately flushed completely. She stuttered, “I… I just reacted instinctively. I didn’t mean to take advantage of you.”
Jiang Yingyue gently shook her head, looking at her and saying softly, “If you don’t want to, just treat it as cooperating with me.”
Jiang Yingyue’s words were like a spell. Xia Xingye was drawn closer involuntarily.
The distance between them closed. Their breaths mingled. Xia Xingye could smell a faint scent of alcohol mixed with a hint of clean fragrance on Jiang Yingyue, completely different from the hospital smell, which made her feel at peace.
She tentatively brushed her lips against Jiang Yingyue’s. It was soft, and she felt a tingling sensation in her heart. Jiang Yingyue’s reflection was mirrored in her eyes.
Before she could savor the moment, Jiang Yingyue leaned up slightly and firmly kissed her on the corner of her lips.
Xia Xingye immediately kissed her back, her rapid breathing becoming erratic from nervousness.
The two quietly looked at each other.
Jiang Yingyue’s voice reached her ear: “I’m very happy to have met you. I hope you can always be by my side.”
Jiang Yingyue’s confession was direct and fiercely possessive. The powerful declaration touched a chord in Xia Xingye that had been taut since she came down the mountain.
Xia Xingye blurted out, “No matter what happens, I will never leave.”
From the moment she first saw Jiang Yingyue, she knew Jiang Yingyue was very important to her.
Even having lost her memory and forgetting who Jiang Yingyue was, she still wanted to be by Jiang Yingyue’s side, to be good to Jiang Yingyue, and to protect Jiang Yingyue.
“I know.”
Jiang Yingyue smiled in response. She knew. She had always known Xia Xingye’s feelings.
“Jiejie, can we…”
Jiang Yingyue chuckled, gently rubbing her nose with hers, and said, “People are coming and going.”
As soon as she finished speaking, they heard the auntie from the next ward at the door asking, “I made some chicken soup over here. Do you two want some?”
Xia Xingye was so startled that she immediately stood up, blocking Jiang Yingyue behind her, pretending nothing had happened.
During the rest of their time at the hospital, Xia Xingye kept in contact with the next ward. Sometimes, when Jiang Yingyue was awake, they would come over to chat with them.
Jiang Yingyue smiled more and more often.
When they were alone, Xia Xingye always tried to say some sweet words, but every time, she only managed to make Jiang Yingyue laugh, forcing Xia Xingye to give up the sweet phrases she learned online.
During this time, Xia Wenyao visited her a few times. Seeing their intimate habits, Xia Wenyao said nothing, only slipping a red envelope to Jiang Yingyue, calling it her first meeting gift.
Jiang Yingyue recovered very well.
When leaving the hospital, Xia Xingye was still worried and repeatedly confirmed that Jiang Yingyue was truly fine.
After being discharged, Jiang Yingyue went back to her apartment complex alone. Xia Xingye stood at the entrance, feeling that the place looked familiar, as if she had been there before.
Jiang Yingyue took their IDs and other documents and led her to the airport.
After the plane landed, they took a bus for several hours, finally arriving at a remote village.
