My Gorgeous Neighbor Is Cooking Every Day - Chapter 50
Chapter 50
“Can you bandage me up?” Jiang Yingyue held her hand, and waited until Xia Xingye looked at her before continuing, “After we leave here.”
Xia Xingye opened her mouth but couldn’t utter a sound. She nodded wildly.
As long as they could leave this place, she would do anything, she would agree to anything.
But they must, they absolutely must leave together.
She didn’t want to leave alone again.
Jiang Yingyue let out a breath, not letting go of Xia Xingye’s hand. Almost all of her body weight was resting on her.
She looked at Long Dao, who was not far away, and said coldly, “I gave you a chance.”
Long Dao gritted his teeth and said, “Save your strength. Struggling so much is not as comfortable as just lying down.”
Jiang Yingyue put her index finger in her mouth. She tried to bite it but didn’t have the strength. She paused and looked at Xia Xingye.
Xia Xingye shook her head, unwilling to help. Jiang Yingyue explained, “The blood on my fingertip is different.”
Xia Xingye held Jiang Yingyue’s hand. When she bit through her finger, her heart was bleeding.
“That was very well done.”
Jiang Yingyue finished speaking, holding the strange plant from earlier. She drew a talisman in the air. The blood, mixed with a hint of green, remained suspended in the air.
Long Dao’s face in the distance turned ugly. He grabbed a weapon his subordinate had put down and threw it at them without a word.
Xia Xingye kicked it away. Long Dao threw everything he could grab, but none of it managed to touch Jiang Yingyue.
She had waited a long time for this moment. The strange plant in her hand gradually dissipated in the air as she drew the talisman.
Jiang Yingyue’s lips trembled slightly. She had endured the previous pain, but only now could she not hold back.
She closed her eyes briefly. The talisman in the air floated upwards, instantly enveloping the entire pattern.
A soft, green drizzle fell onto the ground, slowly washing away the pattern on the ground.
Long Dao’s subordinate instantly spat out a mouthful of blood and collapsed on the ground. When Long Dao saw this, his eyes turned red. He rushed towards Jiang Yingyue recklessly, not caring whether his entry would damage the pattern on the ground.
The pattern had already been disrupted by the green rain. All he was thinking about now was dragging the person who had ruined his plan into hell with him.
Jiang Yingyue glanced at Long Dao, her eyes completely calm.
Just as Long Dao was about to reach her, Xia Xingye blocked him, kicking him away.
Long Dao rolled twice, covered in blood and filth, but still did not give up.
He roared, “It’s all your fault for ruining my plans! You’ll pay the price for what you’ve done!”
Xia Xingye snorted and ignored him.
Ever since she knew Long Dao had harmed Jiang Yingyue, Long Dao was a dead man in her eyes.
Having lived so many years, she had never been filled with such murderous intent, hating someone to the point of wanting them dead, as she did now.
Such intense resentment, and all for a stranger she had only just met.
Xia Xingye didn’t know who Jiang Yingyue was, but she knew what was in her heart. She knew she wanted to protect Jiang Yingyue, just as Jiang Yingyue protected her.
Perhaps in their past lives, they had a relationship where they could sacrifice for each other.
Regardless, she was determined to protect Jiang Yingyue.
Seeing that he couldn’t get close to Jiang Yingyue, Long Dao simply took out a few talismans and threw them onto his subordinates.
The subordinates who were spitting blood on the ground screamed. Their bodies gradually shriveled up, eventually turning into withered corpses.
A faint black mist also appeared around Long Dao, shrouding him.
The black mist expanded aimlessly, gradually spreading toward Xia Xingye, seemingly consciously trying to swallow her.
Xia Xingye retracted her hand. As the black mist got closer, she turned to look at Jiang Yingyue, who was still standing motionless.
Jiang Yingyue must be unable to move now. She had to buy time for Jiang Yingyue.
Xia Xingye looked deeply at Jiang Yingyue, then simply rushed toward Long Dao.
Long Dao, shrouded in black mist, saw Xia Xingye rushing at him and laughed wildly. He felt as if he could already see Xia Xingye vanishing into thin air the moment she got close to him.
The closer Xia Xingye got, the more the black mist coiled and wrapped around her, engulfing her.
The pain in her body did not stop Xia Xingye’s footsteps. She crashed straight into Long Dao.
The moment Xia Xingye was enveloped by the black mist, the green raindrops in the sky suddenly converged and rushed toward her.
The black mist had completely covered Xia Xingye. Jiang Yingyue couldn’t see what was happening to Xia Xingye inside the mist. She shouted, “Xia Xingye!”
No matter when she called Xia Xingye, Xia Xingye would always respond. Only now, Xia Xingye did not answer her.
Jiang Yingyue stared wide-eyed, not daring to miss a single detail, almost masochistically staring directly into the black mist.
The black mist gradually became calm. Xia Xingye had completely vanished within the black mist.
Jiang Yingyue, who could always calm down and figure out how to break the situation, stood still, feeling helpless for the first time.
She stumbled toward the black mist. Just as her hand was about to touch the mist, a green light burst forth, illuminating the entire world.
Jiang Yingyue saw a figure in the green light slowly walking toward her.
A person rushed into her arms. Xia Xingye held her tightly and whispered, “Jiejie, let’s leave this place.”
Tears streamed down her cheeks. Jiang Yingyue nodded and said with a smile, “Okay, let’s leave together.”
After only two steps, Jiang Yingyue’s body suddenly went limp.
Xia Xingye quickly supported her. Seeing how weak she was, she remembered what Long Dao had said about cutting Jiang Yingyue’s hand tendons.
She hadn’t had the courage to ask before, but now it was over.
She tried to keep her voice calm, but the hoarseness was still unmistakable: “Can you still move your hands?”
Jiang Yingyue said softly, “After some treatment back home, I can move them.”
Jiang Yingyue’s hands hung limply, completely powerless.
She tried to lift them but found she couldn’t exert any strength.
The force that had been supporting her was gone.
“Don’t move,” Xia Xingye warned.
Jiang Yingyue stopped trying to act tough.
Xia Xingye helped her walk for a few steps, then simply turned and carried her on her back.
Jiang Yingyue was about to speak, but Xia Xingye said, “Don’t say anything more.”
When Xia Xingye spoke, her voice traveled to Jiang Yingyue through her back. Although she was right in front of her, it sounded as if it could dissipate at any moment.
Jiang Yingyue hummed in agreement and said nothing more.
But while not speaking, she softly hummed a little tune.
The humming melody was long and peaceful, like the water of a flowing stream, slow and unhurried, yet it inexplicably calmed people down.
Just as they reached the bottom of the mountain, Sheng Rudong saw them and immediately stepped forward to support them.
Xia Xingye looked back, feeling that she had forgotten something.
Sheng Rudong urged, “Hurry, we’ll talk about everything later.”
She helped Jiang Yingyue, carefully putting her in the back of the car. Xia Xingye followed.
She didn’t trust anyone else to bandage Jiang Yingyue, so she took the gauze herself and carefully wrapped Jiang Yingyue’s wrists.
Jiang Yingyue’s wrists were thin. Xia Xingye could easily circle one with her hand.
Sheng Rudong sat in the front, holding Deng Xing’er. Mi An drove, occasionally glancing at them.
As they entered the city area, she finally remembered who Xia Xingye and Jiang Yingyue were.
It wasn’t their first meeting. They had met a long time ago.
She was momentarily confused about why she had forgotten, but she didn’t have time to ask.
After Jiang Yingyue was taken to the operating room, Sheng Rudong called a nurse to help Xia Xingye with some simple bandaging.
Xia Xingye had many large and small cuts. After being bandaged, she refused to rest and sat on a bench outside the operating room.
Sheng Rudong said to Mi An, “Watch her for me.”
Mi An stopped her, “Where are you going? You should know better what to do?”
She was referring to the supernatural aspect.
Sheng Rudong said, “Get her proper treatment now. Don’t worry about anything else.”
Hearing this, Mi An nodded and turned to look at Xia Xingye.
Xia Xingye was still sitting there, bolt upright, staring intently at the operating room light.
“Xing’er, you watch her,” Mi An told Deng Xing’er. “I’m going to buy something to eat.”
Deng Xing’er nodded and said, “Go ahead, Sis.”
Mi An needed to complete some hospital procedures and buy food along the way.
Deng Xing’er saw Xia Xingye sitting there the whole time. She walked up and said, “Relax a little. Don’t collapse before she even comes out.”
Xia Xingye looked at her.
Mi An said, “Why are you looking at me like that? You don’t recognize me?”
She had just remembered Xia Xingye and Jiang Yingyue, and now seeing the unfamiliar look in Xia Xingye’s eyes, she felt uneasy and asked.
Xia Xingye frowned, shook her head, and said nothing more.
Deng Xing’er was a little afraid but still watched Xia Xingye until Mi An returned. She then told Mi An, “Sis, she doesn’t seem to remember us.”
Mi An paused and didn’t speak. Instead, she handed the food she bought to Xia Xingye and said, “Eat something first. You’ll need to take care of her when she comes out.”
Only then did Xia Xingye, who had been like a statue, accept the food and slowly start eating.
She didn’t know what she was eating. She only knew that eating would help her regain strength so she could endure until she saw Jiang Yingyue.
The moment the operating room light went out, Xia Xingye immediately stood up.
Jiang Yingyue was wheeled out with her eyes closed.
The doctor told them she needed to be observed in the recovery room for a while before being transferred to a ward.
Xia Xingye’s brow never relaxed.
Mi An quickly asked, “She just needs observation after the surgery, there’s nothing serious, right?”
The doctor said, “Her injuries are a bit severe, but her physical constitution is very good, and she was brought in not too late. With her body type, as long as she rests well, there won’t be too many lasting effects.”
Mi An had asked this question to reassure Xia Xingye, but hearing the doctor’s words, Xia Xingye’s face turned pale.
“Won’t be too many lasting effects” meant there would still be some.
Mi An’s attempt backfired, and she felt a bit awkward.
The doctor added, “It’s fine. Just rest for now.”
On the way to wheel Jiang Yingyue to the recovery room, Jiang Yingyue opened her eyes and saw Xia Xingye. She smiled.
Xia Xingye said sadly, “What are you laughing about now?”
Jiang Yingyue said, “We agreed to leave together, didn’t we break our promise?”
Xia Xingye nodded and said, “We didn’t break our promise.”
Jiang Yingyue saw Mi An and nodded to her.
Mi An watched Xia Xingye follow Jiang Yingyue to the recovery room.
Seeing Jiang Yingyue close her eyes, the heavy weight on Xia Xingye’s heart finally lifted. She suddenly lost strength and fell to the ground.
Mi An quickly said, “She’s really fine. You should go rest quickly. Don’t collapse before she even comes out.”
Xia Xingye nodded and went to a ward to rest.
She opened her eyes and saw Jiang Yingyue next to her, looking at her with some surprise.
Jiang Yingyue’s face was still a bit pale, but she smiled and said, “The doctor said I’ve recovered enough and can come out.”
“You were the one who insisted on coming out,” Mi An couldn’t help but say.
She hadn’t wanted Jiang Yingyue to come out, but Jiang Yingyue was too insistent. Perhaps Xia Xingye could persuade Jiang Yingyue to go back for more observation.
Xia Xingye quickly got up, but the movement aggravated her wounds, making her wince in pain.
Jiang Yingyue shook her head helplessly, saying, “Why are you still so reckless?”
Jiang Yingyue helped Xia Xingye sit down next to her. Seeing her like this, she asked, “How about we put the two beds together?”
Xia Xingye said, “We can.”
Mi An saw they had things to talk about and left first.
“The doctor said I’m fine.”
The one with the severe injuries was Jiang Yingyue, yet she was the one comforting Xia Xingye.
Xia Xingye forced a smile and said, “You’re still trying to reassure me.”
Jiang Yingyue said, “I’ll reassure you if it makes you happy.”
Jiang Yingyue was willing to do this if it made Xia Xingye happy.
Xia Xingye felt a pang of sadness, her eyes slightly watering.
How could someone be so good to her, so good as if they were not just strangers meeting for the first time?
Jiang Yingyue said, “I want some water.”
Xia Xingye grabbed a cup, hesitated, and said, “Wait a moment.”
She ran to find the doctor, asked a question, and then took a cotton swab dipped in water to moisten Jiang Yingyue’s lips.
After a glance, Xia Xingye averted her gaze, her face slightly flushed. She awkwardly rubbed her head and asked, “Jiejie, I haven’t asked you yet, what is your name?”
