My Gorgeous Neighbor Is Cooking Every Day - Chapter 44
Chapter 44
The boss looked at her and said, “I remember.”
“Then do you still remember who I was buying the flowers for?”
“Of course I know you were going to give them to…” His words suddenly trailed off halfway, and he rubbed his head somewhat strangely. “I remember you told me who they were for, but I can’t think of it for some reason.”
As he, too, could not recall the specifics, the pain Xia Xingye felt from being unable to remember was slightly alleviated. She wasn’t the only one like this.
But only for a moment, she grew uneasy again. What if everyone forgot?
She asked again, “Did I buy anything else?”
“Yes, you bought this too,” the boss said, pointing in a direction.
Xia Xingye looked at the plant, and her heart rate suddenly accelerated. It looked increasingly familiar, and she was reminded of the empty room next door.
Xia Xingye ran out of the flower shop, calling the property management on her way back. “I want to see the room next door.”
The property management said helplessly, “I already told you no one is there.”
“What if I want to rent the room next door?”
Xia Xingye only said this, and the property management immediately smiled and said, “Of course, you can. Wait for me, I’m coming over right now.”
Xia Xingye waited at the door for the property management to arrive, unconsciously reaching into her pocket and pulling out a set of keys.
There were two keys on the ring, one was hers, and the other…
Xia Xingye looked at the keys, then at the door in front of her, the hand holding the keys slightly trembling.
She inserted the key into the lock and gently twisted, opening the door.
Xia Xingye’s eyes widened. The room was messy, as if it had been ransacked.
She looked at the knife marks on the floor and the indentations on the sofa, and her head ached even more.
She had indeed forgotten something very important, and that important thing was related to the owner of this room.
She searched around but couldn’t find the owner. However, as she passed the balcony, she saw the plant she found so familiar.
The moment she picked up the plant, fragmented memories flashed through her mind.
She was in so much pain that she writhed on the floor. When she recovered, she was drenched in sweat, still holding the potted plant.
She put down the plant and stumbled toward the door.
The property management arrived just then and was stunned, as if struck by lightning, when they saw Xia Xingye walk out from inside and looked into the room.
Xia Xingye glanced at them and said, “Don’t move.”
Then she hurried away.
The property management stood rooted to the spot, unsure whether to move or not.
This room hadn’t been rented out, so how did Xia Xingye get in? And how did she manage to make it so messy?
But looking at the traces of someone having lived there, they sighed with a headache.
Maybe they should go back and check the contract to see if this room had been rented out, in case they were suffering from Alzheimer’s.
Xia Xingye ran out in a hurry, but halfway, her footsteps gradually slowed down from their frantic pace.
She looked at the passersby coming and going, lowered her head to look at her hands, and blinked in confusion. How did she end up in this place?
After wandering around for a few minutes, Xia Xingye started walking back.
She encountered the property management on the way and called out to them.
“Did you come looking for me?”
The property management shook their head, saying, “I wasn’t looking for you.”
“Then what are you doing here?”
“What am I doing here?” the property management countered.
“How would I know what you’re doing here?” Xia Xingye laughed in annoyance. “Alright, never mind. I’ll head back then.”
Back in her room, Xia Xingye tossed and turned in bed, then got up and called the property management. “Are you really not going to do anything?”
The property management was more confused than she was. “Could I forget something I was going to do? I’m only in my forties, I’m not that old.”
“Then tell me what you came here for?”
The property management was stumped by her question and got a little angry. “Mind your own business!”
They hung up the phone after saying that.
Xia Xingye stared at the phone for a moment in silence, then noticed other call records on her phone.
Xia Xingye tried calling the number, but it didn’t go through.
She scrolled through the call history again and found that she frequently communicated with this number, but she absolutely could not remember who this person was.
Xia Xingye thought for a moment, then sent the number to Xia Wenyao, along with a message: “Mom, can you help me find out whose number this is?”
While waiting for the reply, Xia Xingye also sent the number to everyone she knew, asking one by one.
Everyone said it wasn’t their number.
Xia Xingye stared at the number; she could recite it by heart, yet she couldn’t recall the owner of the number at all.
Xia Xingye sat cross-legged and muttered to herself, “Am I caught in some kind of time loop?”
She suddenly thought of a video she had seen and started to suspect that she might be experiencing a ghostly spatial distortion.
She sent another text message to Xia Wenyao: “Mom, do you know any Taoist priests or anything like that?”
Since it felt like a ghost-related phenomenon, finding a Taoist priest to expel a ghost seemed perfectly normal.
Just then, Xia Wenyao called her.
“I can’t find anything for this number, but as for a Taoist priest, Mom does know one.”
Xia Xingye waited for Xia Wenyao to send her the number, but after a long wait, she still hadn’t received it. She asked uncertainly, “Mom, are you still there?”
“I’m here. That’s strange. I forgot the number of the Taoist priest I wanted to recommend to you. But I know another one, would that be okay?”
“Anything is fine.”
Xia Xingye had originally wanted to ask for the original Taoist priest’s contact information, but since Xia Wenyao said she didn’t know the number, she had to switch to asking about the other Taoist priest.
Soon, that Taoist priest arrived at Xia Xingye’s place.
When Xia Xingye opened the door, the Taoist priest was standing right outside her door, looking at the room next door.
Xia Xingye asked him, “What’s wrong?”
“There’s something strange about the room next door.”
