My Gorgeous Neighbor Is Cooking Every Day - Chapter 43
Chapter 43
Xia Xingye sat on the bed for a long time before getting up. She habitually walked to the sink, but reached out and didn’t find her toothbrush.
She froze, realizing the sink was completely bare. There was no toothbrush, no toothpaste, and she couldn’t even find her towel.
She frowned and searched the entire bathroom but couldn’t find anything.
She stood in a daze, confusedly touching her head. Why are all my things gone?
Could a thief have broken in? But would a thief only steal her small items?
Xia Xingye was baffled. She temporarily went out to buy toiletries and came back to wash up.
Afterward, as she passed a neighbor’s door on her way out, she subconsciously looked at the door.
The neighbor’s door was closed. She looked at the doorway strangely, feeling that someone should live here, but she hadn’t seen anyone since she moved in.
Her head was starting to hurt, so she simply knocked on the door.
The room was silent, with no sound.
Xia Xingye thought for a moment and called property management.
The property manager was surprised: “No one has been living next door to you.”
Xia Xingye uttered an “Ah” and said: “That shouldn’t be right. Someone should be living there. I even went out with her…”
She wanted to say that she had gone out with the neighbor, spent time with her, but the words stopped abruptly on her tongue.
She looked blankly at the heavy door. When did I go out with the neighbor? I’ve clearly never met the neighbor.
“Alright, if there’s nothing else, that’s it. Call back if you have a problem.” The property manager hung up the phone after speaking.
Xia Xingye closed her eyes in pain. She knocked on the door: “Is anyone inside?”
Someone very familiar should live here, but I can’t remember who.
There was still no response from inside. Xia Xingye returned sadly; she had her 8 a.m. class.
In the classroom, Xu Youyou saw Xia Xingye looking depressed and signaled to Su Nian’an.
Su Nian’an asked softly: “Are you not feeling well?”
Xia Xingye stared at her blankly and said: “I think I forgot something very important.”
Xu Youyou interjected: “Did you forget to do your homework? It’s okay, we’ll lend you ours to copy.”
“It’s not homework.” Xia Xingye shook her head.
“Didn’t sleep well?” Bai Lu also asked.
Xia Xingye shook her head and said no more.
Xia Xingye was distracted the entire class.
After class, everyone left, but Xia Xingye remained in her seat.
Her three roommates stopped their movement to get up, then sat back down in their original spots.
After everyone had left, Xu Youyou asked worriedly: “Are you really okay?”
Xia Xingye looked at the three of them and said hesitantly: “I think I’ve forgotten a very important person, but I can’t remember who.”
“A very important person?”
The three looked at each other and asked her: “Do we know them?”
Xia Xingye hesitated and said: “Probably.”
“But I don’t recall you introducing anyone to us recently,” Xu Youyou said.
She looked at the other two, and they had the same expression, all unaware of when Xia Xingye had introduced anyone to them.
Seeing their confusion, Xia Xingye knew it was useless to continue talking to them. She abruptly stood up and said: “I’m going back first.”
She walked to the door, sighed, and turned back to say softly: “Sorry, my attitude isn’t great, but I’m really frustrated right now.”
She didn’t mean to snap at them. She just didn’t know why she was acting so strangely today.
It was as if if she didn’t try to remember, she would lose something very important, forgetting something she would regret for the rest of her life.
This feeling made her extremely restless.
Xia Xingye’s temper was strange today. It was the first time they had seen her like this.
But the person Xia Xingye mentioned, they truly didn’t know who it was.
Su Nian’an said softly: “It’s okay. Although we don’t know who you’re talking about, for someone to leave such an impression on you and make you search for them, that person must exist.”
Xu Youyou didn’t fully understand but agreed: “Yes, that must be it.”
“Although we can’t remember who it is, if you need our help, we will definitely assist you,” Bai Lu also said.
All three roommates took turns comforting her. Xia Xingye felt a warmth in her heart and nodded vigorously: “I will find her. Wait for my good news.”
She searched all the places she usually went but couldn’t find a single clue.
Her room was even cleaner, and aside from the inexplicable disappearance of some of her belongings, there was nothing strange about it.
After careful consideration, Xia Xingye called Xia Wenyao.
Xia Wenyao answered the phone and joked: “What’s wrong? Are you going to report something to Mom?”
“Mom, I have something I want to ask you. Do you remember me mentioning anyone to you recently?” Xia Xingye asked.
If she was close to someone, she would definitely share it with Xia Wenyao, and even if Xia Wenyao was busy, she would respond to her.
“Mention anyone? No, I don’t think so,” Xia Wenyao said uncertainly. “Why are you asking?”
“I think I’ve forgotten someone.”
“Are you injured? Have you been to the hospital?” The pen in Xia Wenyao’s hand rolled away, her voice anxious.
“I’m not injured. I just felt like I’d forgotten something when I woke up,” Xia Xingye quickly explained.
Xia Wenyao sighed in relief and asked: “Did you dream?”
Listening to Xia Wenyao’s words, Xia Xingye’s heart sank little by little.
She bit her lip. Could it really be a hallucination from a dream that she mistook for reality?
“What’s wrong? Are you hiding something from Mom?” The sudden silence made Xia Wenyao uneasy.
She didn’t spend much time with Xia Xingye, but she truly and deeply loved her daughter.
She wouldn’t righteously, or even accusingly, say: “I work so hard all for you,” like some others.
She had her job and loved it before Xia Xingye was born, gradually rising to her current position.
She wasn’t sure if she was prepared before having a child, but she only knew that the moment she found out she was pregnant, she felt fortunate and joyful.
Even through countless sleepless nights of discomfort during pregnancy, she never resented the child in her womb.
She waited for the child’s arrival with great anticipation and meticulously cherished her after her birth.
However, the company’s leave was limited. After much hesitation, Xia Wenyao returned to the workplace.
She never denied her ambition in her career. Occasionally, people would say she loved her career but not her child.
Xia Wenyao didn’t want to conflict with others; she knew in her heart how much she loved her daughter.
During the time when Xia Xingye was still young and just learning to speak, Xia Xingye once asked if she could stay with her and not go out all day.
The child didn’t understand why she had to go out every day and come back so late. She only knew she wanted her mother to be with her.
Xia Wenyao’s emotions were complicated. She spoke to Xia Xingye seriously: “Mom is a mother, but also a person. Mom wants to have her own career.”
She could have used many excuses to placate Xia Xingye, or used gifts to get Xia Xingye to agree to her working, but she didn’t. She honestly told Xia Xingye what was on her mind.
Xia Xingye’s small, chubby face, with its baby fat, looked lovable. She blinked her eyes and asked: “Does doing those things make Mom happy?”
Xia Wenyao nodded.
For a long time after that day, the child, who couldn’t even speak fluently, never stopped her from going to work again.
Because of this, Xia Xingye became independent very early.
Xia Wenyao would be lying if she said she had no regrets, but if she were asked to give up her career, she would also regret giving it up.
The only thing she could do was try to care for Xia Xingye while pursuing her career.
Xia Xingye calling her at this time and saying such strange things made her anxious.
An employee knocked and came in to deliver documents. Xia Wenyao told them: “I’m going out for a bit.”
Then she picked up her keys and started to leave.
“Wait, I’m fine,” Xia Xingye finally spoke.
“I am sure this person exists.” Xia Xingye told Xia Wenyao about the mysterious disappearance of some things in her house.
Xia Wenyao pondered for a moment and said: “If they exist, they will leave traces. Check your phone to see if there’s anything.”
Xia Xingye’s eyes lit up. Since she woke up, she had been so focused on trying to find the person that she hadn’t thought to check her phone records.
“Thank you, Mom. I’m going to check. You focus on your work. Don’t worry about me; I’m really fine.” Xia Xingye hung up the phone after speaking and immediately rushed to check her phone.
Upon checking, she did find some strange expenses on her phone.
She looked at the expenditure at the flower shop, found the shop, and walked in. As soon as she entered, she asked the owner: “Boss, I bought flowers from you. Do you still remember me?”
