My Gorgeous Neighbor Is Cooking Every Day - Chapter 13
Chapter 13
“I, I…”
Jiang Yingyue patted her pocket, stopping Xiao Jiang from saying anything more alarming.
“Don’t listen to it in the future.”
Xia Xingye forced a smile. She knew it! She wondered why Xiao Jiang had suddenly been so kind, but it turned out it was trying to trick her.
Unfortunately, she had trusted Jiang Yingyue and Xiao Jiang too much and had been fooled without realizing it.
“I made some food. Do you want to eat some?” Jiang Yingyue opened the food container and asked Xia Xingye hesitantly.
Xia Xingye wiggled her nose, staring at the food container for two seconds: “Yes, I’ll eat.”
Of course, she had to eat what Jiang Yingyue made. It was Xiao Jiang who did the bad deed, not Jiang Yingyue. She wouldn’t take her anger out on Jiang Yingyue.
Xiao Jiang spoke to Jiang Yingyue in what it thought was a whisper: “She’s not mad at you.”
Xia Xingye: “…”
Did it forget that she could hear, or was it deliberately saying it for her to hear?
Jiang Yingyue pursed her lips, looking at Xia Xingye with some discomfort: “I’ll keep a better eye on it in the future.”
She couldn’t think of any other way besides this.
“No need,” Xia Xingye put down the spoon, reached out, and said, “Give it to me now.”
Jiang Yingyue was puzzled, but Xiao Jiang urgently said: “No! No!”
Xia Xingye: “Give it to me, and I won’t be angry.”
Jiang Yingyue thought for a moment, then took Xiao Jiang out of her pocket. After all, Xiao Jiang was the one who did something bad first. Whatever Xia Xingye wanted to do, Xiao Jiang deserved it.
Holding Xiao Jiang, Xia Xingye said grimly: “Now you’re in my hands.”
She squeezed Xiao Jiang’s body. Xiao Jiang immediately shrieked: “If you hit me, she’ll feel the pain too!”
Xia Xingye’s hand paused. She hadn’t intended to hit Xiao Jiang, just tease it. After all, it belonged to Jiang Yingyue, and she couldn’t bear to damage it. Hearing what Xiao Jiang said, she looked up in surprise.
Jiang Yingyue said indifferently: “I will feel a little something.”
After thinking for a moment, she added: “You can hit it.”
By handing Xiao Jiang over to Xia Xingye, she silently consented to Xia Xingye retaliating against Xiao Jiang.
Xia Xingye looked at Jiang Yingyue, then at Xiao Jiang, and finally lowered her hand. If hitting Xiao Jiang was equivalent to hitting Jiang Yingyue, she couldn’t bring herself to do it, besides, she hadn’t planned to do anything to Xiao Jiang anyway.
“I want other compensation.”
Jiang Yingyue nodded: “What do you want?”
She agreed readily, without any hesitation.
Xia Xingye was puzzled: “Aren’t you afraid I’ll make an excessive demand?”
Jiang Yingyue stared at Xia Xingye, her thin lips moved: “Would you?”
She wasn’t sure if Xia Xingye would, so she just asked directly.
“I…” Xia Xingye covered her face, getting a headache. She suspected Jiang Yingyue was sent by the heavens to be her nemesis!
Whenever Xia Xingye saw Jiang Yingyue’s beautiful face, even if she was angry, she wouldn’t take it out on Jiang Yingyue.
Jiang Yingyue looked at her sudden reaction, standing still and at a loss, wondering if she had said something wrong.
After a moment of internal struggle, Xia Xingye asked, still unwilling to give up: “What exactly is your relationship with Xiao Jiang?”
“Can I say?” Jiang Yingyue suddenly asked something inexplicable.
Before Xia Xingye could react, Xiao Jiang excitedly said: “Of course, you can! It’ll have to be said sooner or later anyway!”
Xia Xingye: “…Why are you asking it?”
Jiang Yingyue seemed more like the owner, so why was she asking Xiao Jiang instead?
Looking down at Xiao Jiang, Xia Xingye’s expression grew uglier.
“It’s not what you think!” Xiao Jiang was also anxious, “She’s just asking me to confirm, that’s all. I’m definitely not some evil entity!”
In just a few short seconds, Xiao Jiang sensed that Xia Xingye had thought of many things and didn’t dare to let Xia Xingye continue to overthink, so it quickly interrupted Xia Xingye’s wild guesses.
Xia Xingye didn’t speak, still looking at Xiao Jiang with suspicion.
Such a strange thing, she genuinely couldn’t believe there was nothing wrong with it. She looked at Jiang Yingyue and asked softly: “Do you want to find someone to take a look?”
The people she was referring to were Taoist priests or folk shamans, and so on. In short, she had to find a way to get Jiang Yingyue to see what was going on.
Jiang Yingyue let out a muffled chuckle. Seeing Xia Xingye’s confusion, she whispered: “No need, I’m fine.”
Xia Xingye was about to say something impatiently, but Xiao Jiang already started crying pitifully: “I’m really not a bad person. I just wanted to take you out for a walk and create more time for you two to spend together.”
Halfway through its sentence, Jiang Yingyue suddenly covered its mouth.
Xia Xingye blinked: “To create more time for us to spend together? Let me hear what it wants to say.”
Xia Xingye stopped Jiang Yingyue. Jiang Yingyue hesitated: “Are you sure you want to hear?”
Xia Xingye: “Yes, why wouldn’t I be allowed to hear?”
Jiang Yingyue hesitated for a moment, then handed Xiao Jiang back to Xia Xingye: “Ask whatever you want.”
Before letting go, she squeezed Xiao Jiang, seemingly warning it.
Xia Xingye noticed her action but didn’t say anything, looking down at Xiao Jiang: “What did you want to say just now?”
Xiao Jiang stammered for a long time, only managing to say two words: “Nothing.”
Xia Xingye: “Nothing? You clearly wanted to say something just now. If you don’t tell me, I’m really going to call a Taoist priest to exorcise you.”
Xiao Jiang said aggrievedly: “You want me to say it, but she won’t let me. Who should I listen to? I can’t afford to offend either of you.”
It couldn’t afford to offend either of them. Answering was a problem, and not answering was also a problem. It was truly in a difficult position. The more it thought about it, the more aggrieved it felt, and it suddenly burst into tears, the same crying sound Xia Xingye had heard before she met it.
Xia Xingye threw it back with a headache, wondering: “Why is it crying again?”
Jiang Yingyue also looked helpless: “Sometimes it just does this when it can’t figure things out.”
Xia Xingye nodded, half understanding: “It was crying so much before when it was with you. Was it also because it couldn’t figure something out?”
Jiang Yingyue nodded but didn’t intend to tell her the specific reason. Xia Xingye’s attention wasn’t on that anymore. She pinched Xiao Jiang: “Tell me, and I’ll intercede for you. I won’t let her bully you.”
Xiao Jiang’s crying subsided a little, and it asked pitifully: “Really?”
Jiang Yingyue lightly cleared her throat behind them. Xiao Jiang immediately changed its tune: “No, I can’t tell you.”
Xia Xingye thought for a moment: “Then I’ll ask it differently. Does what you can’t say affect me?”
Xiao Jiang pondered how not to offend either person, speaking much more carefully, its voice still tearful: “It has an effect, but not a big one.”
It really was like a child, but much smarter. “It’s truly just what I said on the surface, to give you two more time to spend together. Aren’t you happy too? You’re injured, so she can’t go out on a mission.”
Xia Xingye couldn’t help but smile: “You know what I’m thinking too?”
Xiao Jiang whispered: “Of course, I know.”
After saying that, it closed its mouth and didn’t speak again.
Xia Xingye was sure it wouldn’t reveal anything more, so she stopped pressing it, looking up at Jiang Yingyue: “Do you have a mission recently?”
Jiang Yingyue: “I was supposed to, but not anymore.”
Xia Xingye nodded. Sure enough, just as Xiao Jiang said, Jiang Yingyue wouldn’t go on a mission because she was injured. Although she didn’t think her injury was very serious, just a bit painful with some minor scrapes, nothing major. However, being able to keep Jiang Yingyue with her made the injury worthwhile.
Even now, Xia Xingye still didn’t want Jiang Yingyue to do dangerous things. Her intuition told her that what Jiang Yingyue did was not something an ordinary person would do. The small ghost she encountered that day was just child’s play for Jiang Yingyue, so what she usually encountered would probably only be more dangerous.
“Are you still bringing me dinner tonight?” Xia Xingye picked up the food nearby. It had been sitting for a while and was a bit cold, cool to the taste, but the flavor was still excellent.
Jiang Yingyue indeed had a talent for cooking.
She complimented while eating: “You cook so well, have you ever thought about becoming a chef?”
Jiang Yingyue didn’t think much of it: “No. Being a chef is too much trouble.”
Xia Xingye swallowed the food in her mouth and said seriously: “How is it troublesome? Do you find the mundane tasks too much? I can help you as an assistant.”
Jiang Yingyue dismissed her idea with one sentence: “You are a student.”
Xia Xingye looked dejected, but immediately said: “But I can help you on weekends, and I don’t have classes all day either. As long as I’m free, I can help you cook.”
Forget about all those weird and strange professions; it’s better to be a chef in peace. Although being a chef might not be good for the skin, that could be addressed later. As long as the time spent in the kitchen wasn’t too long and the environment was good enough, the harm to her wouldn’t be worse than dealing with those ghosts outside.
Xia Xingye was still thinking about how to convince Jiang Yingyue to change professions. Jiang Yingyue saw what she was thinking and said faintly: “I like what I’m doing now.”
Xia Xingye wanted to say more, but Jiang Yingyue changed the subject: “What do you want to eat tonight?”
Seeing that she was unwilling to talk more, Xia Xingye pouted a little in disappointment, but ultimately stopped pestering her with annoying questions. What if Jiang Yingyue found her annoying and didn’t bring her food tonight?
For the sake of tonight’s treat, she would temporarily stop asking about what Jiang Yingyue was doing. There would be plenty of time in the future, and she would find out what Jiang Yingyue was doing eventually.
“I want soup tonight.”
“What kind of soup?”
Xia Xingye thought for a moment, then shook her head: “I don’t know, any soup will do. As long as you make it, I’ll like it. I don’t have any dietary restrictions.”
Jiang Yingyue: “Alright, I’ll bring you dinner tonight.”
As she spoke, she stood up, looking at the small amount of food Xia Xingye had left, waiting for her to finish so she could pack up and leave.
Xia Xingye paused: “Are you leaving so early?”
Jiang Yingyue: “I have something to do this afternoon.”
Xia Xingye hesitated: “Is it work?”
Jiang Yingyue nodded.
Xia Xingye felt anxious. Although she didn’t know what reason to use to persuade Jiang Yingyue, it just didn’t feel right, like a rock was stuck in her heart. She clearly wanted to help Jiang Yingyue. After thinking about it, she could only sigh and say: “Be careful.”
That was Jiang Yingyue’s job, and that was the only thing she could say.
Jiang Yingyue still nodded, indicating she understood.
As she finished packing the food container and was about to leave the hospital room, Xia Xingye called out to her: “Is there anything I can help you with? The fact that I can hear Xiao Jiang speak, does that mean I’m different from others? Do I also have talent in this area?”
