My Ghostly Darling Cuddles Me Every Day - Chapter 16
Chapter 16: Bo Yu Gripped the Bed Sheets.
Bo Mi looked up at the stars, finding the thought of Bo Jingxian’s reluctant face amusing. She chuckled, “I made Jingxian drive Hanhan out for a walk.”
“…”
Bo Yu chimed in, “That’s a good solution.”
Bo Mi laughed. Bo Jingxian was the idlest person in the house, yet she always tried to compete with Bo Yu for favor—with anyone and everyone. So, even though she was reluctant, she had headed out quite happily to prove her usefulness. However, still afraid that Hanhan might lose his mind and ram her again, she had taken the driver and the housekeeper along.
Bo Mi said, “By the way, Xiao Yu.”
Bo Yu: “…Yes, mhm?”
Bo Mi: “Is your rut period coming up?”
Bo Yu’s brain had already ceased functioning rationally. “I think so.”
Bo Mi: “Lately, there’s an anti-social Omega out there. They catch the scent of a good-smelling Alpha and demand to be marked on the spot. Be careful.”
Bo Yu: “Okay, okay.”
Bo Mi: “It’s a female Omega. I heard she’s quite beautiful.”
The past two generations of the Bo family had married the opposite sex, but since same-sex marriage had long been legal in this society, the Bo family tacitly accepted that the children could marry whoever they chose. They rarely discussed gender distinctions. Bo Yu was the type who never talked about her orientation, but Bo Mi secretly felt that Bo Yu probably preferred girls.
Bo Mi: “Xiao Yu, you like girls, don’t you?”
Bo Yu: “…Ah, what?”
Bo Mi smiled and didn’t push further. Grandma Bo didn’t follow the usual path; unlike some traditional families, the Bo family didn’t care if one married an Alpha, Beta, or Omega—as long as the person could handle the inability to mark or be marked, the inability to have children, and the discomfort of rut or heat periods.
Bo Mi sighed, “You seem gentle and mild, with no desires or demands, but you’re actually the most headstrong person in this family. I always worry that the person who attracts you will be some anti-social type who ends up hurting you. You’re too stubborn sometimes, and once you set your mind on someone, we won’t be able to stop you. I feel like if that day truly comes, we might lose you.”
Bo Yu could no longer hear what her sister was saying. While Bo Mi gazed at the night sky, softly voicing her concerns, Bo Yu sat with her neck tilted to the right like she had a permanent cramp. Her breathing hitched and stalled as Xie Yinwan refused to leave, continuing to smell her. Of all times, her sister had to become talkative now.
“I won’t… it won’t happen,” Bo Yu managed to say.
Bo Mi shook her head. “You can’t be sure when the time comes. The authorities are clouded while bystanders see clearly.”
Bo Yu truly couldn’t endure this tingling sensation anymore. She tried to put down her biscuit; her hand could move, she wasn’t being pinned by Xie Yinwan. She immediately bit the bullet, stood up from her chair, and said, “Sis, I’m tired. I’m going back to my room.”
“Hmm? You actually dare to get up?” Xie Yinwan’s cold voice rang out behind her.
Bo Yu didn’t dare look back.
Bo Mi looked at Bo Yu in surprise. “Why so sudden… why is your face so red? And your voice is shaking?”
Bo Yu muttered but couldn’t come up with an explanation.
Bo Mi looked at Bo Yu’s wine glass and grew even more puzzled. “You haven’t even drunk much?”
The wine was almost untouched!
Bo Mi’s eyes narrowed. “You aren’t already secretly seeing some anti-social person, are you?”
“No, absolutely not,” Bo Yu said with total certainty.
Bo Mi felt a slight relief. “That’s good.”
Bo Yu pushed on, forced to lie: “Actually, I secretly drank some wine in my room earlier…”
Bo Yu used to use Zhu Ying as her excuse for everything, but now she was becoming a master of spontaneous lies. However, lying to her sister still made her expression look a bit unnatural.
Bo Mi frowned, asking worriedly, “Why were you drinking alone in your room? Is something making you unhappy? Are you mad at Uncle?”
“…”
Sure enough, one lie required a thousand more to cover it.
Bo Yu didn’t spend more time digging a hole. She glanced back to see Xie Yinwan floating in the air, watching her with cold eyes. When they made eye contact, Xie Yinwan narrowed her gaze as if she intended to settle the score for Bo Yu’s “disobedience.” Bo Yu’s scalp went numb. She hurriedly told her sister she wasn’t mad at her dad—she just “suddenly felt like having a couple of drinks after her bath”—said her goodnights, and turned to flee.
As she walked, Bo Yu kept looking back to see if Xie Yinwan was following. She was terrified the ghost would stay on the roof to smell her sister. She didn’t notice Bo Mi watching her with a thoughtful expression.
Fortunately, Xie Yinwan followed.
Bo Yu entered the elevator and nodded, signaling for Xie Yinwan to enter as well. The ghost followed with a frigid expression, floating beside her.
Bo Yu was tense all over, whispering an explanation: “My sister was right there. I couldn’t hold out any longer, so I had to stand up. Please don’t be angry, Immortal.”
There were no cameras in the elevator, so she didn’t have to worry about security seeing her talking to thin air.
Xie Yinwan had been enjoying herself and was thoroughly annoyed by the interruption. “If there is a next time, I will kill you.” The word “kill” was spoken with fierce intensity.
Bo Yu felt a phantom pain in her neck and head. She suspected that if Xie Yinwan really wanted to kill her, she would either strangle her or crush her with those insulation boards. Despite her fear, a part of her wondered if the ghost truly would go that far.
After a few seconds of internal struggle, Bo Yu nodded obediently. “It won’t happen again, Immortal. Never again.”
“Hmph.”
To Bo Yu, that “Hmph” sounded like a royal pardon. She let out a long breath, and her tense shoulders finally dropped. Remembering Xie Yinwan smelling the wine earlier, she thought of a way to please her. She asked softly, “Immortal, did you like that glass of wine? If you did, I can burn some for you tomorrow?”
Xie Yinwan replied curtly, “Acceptable.”
Bo Yu’s face was still red from the ghost’s earlier behavior, but hearing that one-word approval, her face flushed even deeper with joy. “Then I’ll find a few bottles of the best-smelling wine to burn for you. Then you won’t need to smell my sister anymore, okay?”
Xie Yinwan’s gaze landed on Bo Yu’s bright, vivid face, lingering for a moment on the blush on her cheeks. Her tone remained indifferent: “For the time being.”
“…”
For the time being was good enough. Postponing it day by day was a victory. Bo Yu was overjoyed again.
However, just as Bo Yu looked up to say something else, Xie Yinwan drifted toward her face-to-face. She wrapped her arms around Bo Yu’s waist and lowered her head to smell her neck.
Bo Yu immediately tilted her head back. This ghost… anywhere, anytime!
She walked out of the elevator with her head tilted back, walking stiffly and quickly back to her room, all while Xie Yinwan remained “hanging” off her body.
Once back in the room, Bo Yu locked the door. The next second, her body was controlled, and she flew straight onto the bed. Bo Yu was so startled she clamped her mouth shut to keep from screaming; it was more heart-pounding than a roller coaster.
Then, her pajama collar was pulled wide open. Xie Yinwan drifted over her, gave a faint smile, and lowered her head to inhale.
Bo Yu gripped the bed sheets. She didn’t understand what Xie Yinwan was smelling for—was it just the scent, or was she draining her human essence or Yang energy? But since she had invited this entity in, she knew she had to bear the consequences.
Xie Yinwan lay atop her, lingering between her neck and collarbone. Waves of cold, ghostly air puffed against her skin, accompanied by a feather-light, tickling sensation. Bo Yu involuntarily swallowed the saliva that kept pooling in her mouth.
Her body was immobilized, and unable to endure the feeling of being “violated” by a ghost, she closed her eyes tightly and tried to make conversation: “Immortal, didn’t you say the scent on me didn’t smell good?”
“Shut up. I don’t want to hear you talk right now.”
“…” So mean.
Being scolded made Bo Yu’s heart skip a beat. She tried to imagine herself as a cat, enduring the “huffing” of a human, just as she was enduring Xie Yinwan.
Only when she felt Xie Yinwan lift herself away did Bo Yu’s shoulders finally relax. Remembering what the ghost had said about extinguishing the city’s lights, she quickly seized the opportunity to beg: “Immortal, tonight is the first night. Could you take me out on the fifth night at midnight? I beg of you.”
Bo Yu pressed her hands together in prayer. The fifth night would be Friday. She figured if she stayed out too late, she could sleep in on Saturday.
Xie Yinwan’s lips curved slightly as she studied Bo Yu for a moment. “There are many ghosts outside. If you truly see them, would you dare?”
Bo Yu: “I probably won’t see them. Even if I do, it’s fine. I’ll just ignore them.”
“You won’t be able to ignore them.”
“I can.”
“Heh.”
“…” Bo Yu’s heart skipped a beat. What did “Heh” mean?
Xie Yinwan spoke with a hint of impatience: “I need a drop of your blood. There are many ghosts out there; if you really see one, the blood connection will prevent other ghosts from approaching you. Just this once, don’t let it happen again. I have no time to accompany you outside to smell those filthy stenches.”
Bo Yu felt a flash of alarm hearing that the ghost wanted her blood, but then she realized that if Xie Yinwan really wanted it for something malicious, she could simply control a knife or slam Bo Yu’s head against a wall. She stopped worrying.
“Immortal, wait a moment. I’ll go get the tools.”
Bo Yu went to the household medicine cabinet. Protected by her grandmother for years, she was afraid of both bitterness and pain. She didn’t dare cut her finger with a knife, but the house had a lancing device for blood glucose testing. She could use that.
Returning, she mentally prepared herself and asked, “Where should I drop the blood?”
Xie Yinwan was still impatient: “Anywhere.”
Bo Yu was relieved it was casual; if it had been some elaborate ritual, she would have been too scared. She pricked her finger and let the blood fall onto a tissue.
What Bo Yu didn’t see was that the “blood soul” from that drop she had offered up rose quickly after falling. It flew straight into the space between Xie Yinwan’s eyebrows and vanished instantly.
At that, Xie Yinwan smiled with genuine pleasure.
Bound by hair, bound by blood—now she could successfully enter this sister’s dreams. And in those dreams, she would transform from a transparent ghost into a touchable human. Then, she could do many, many interesting things with her.
Simple sniffing was just scratching the surface. Only in dreams would it become interesting.
Only then would it be fun.
