My Ex’s White Moonlight Omega Has a Crush on Me - Chapter 29.1
Chao Wan looked to Yu Yunjia for help, only to find the woman had averted her gaze, showing no intention of intervening.
Swallowing silently, she had no choice but to turn the screen toward herself.
Her eyes slowly drifted to the center of the call interface.
Ji Tanyue was wearing a dark gray wool coat with a black turtleneck underneath. Her long hair was casually draped over her shoulders, giving off a lazy, relaxed vibe.
When she saw Chao Wan, the corners of her lips lifted slightly. “Just woke up?”
There was no one else around the woman, and the surroundings were quiet, as if she were in a private lounge.
“Mm.” Chao Wan’s gaze flickered, avoiding the slightly teasing expression on the woman’s face as she cautiously replied, “I’ve already eaten properly.”
Ji Tanyue nodded. “Good. Let Secretary Yu show you around and get familiar with the place. If you need anything, you can tell her. I’ll be back later today.”
Chao Wan obediently nodded without asking further questions.
Come to think of it, Ji Tanyue was supposed to be very busy. It would be strange for her to be constantly entangled with Chao Wan anyway.
After ending the call, Yu Yunjia gave Chao Wan a brief tour of the villa.
From the everyday dining room and main hall to the terrace garden beyond the long corridor and the indoor swimming pool, it took nearly an hour to cover all the rooms.
“Miss Chao, you are free to use any of the facilities here. Additionally, if you need to purchase anything, you can call me. It should arrive in about half an hour.”
Yu Yunjia stood by the window, speaking in a calm, matter-of-fact tone, about to explain the surroundings outside the villa.
But as if she had noticed something, she suddenly frowned and stopped speaking.
A particularly conspicuous car was parked downstairs, its window rolled down to reveal a carefree profile.
Fu Xi had casually tied her hair into a low ponytail. Her gaze swept over the uniformly luxurious buildings around her before she lowered her head and began tapping on her phone screen.
Chao Wan’s phone suddenly buzzed with a few messages.
[Wanwan, didn’t you say you just signed a contract and have very little to do? Let me take you out to have some fun.]
[Your friend’s place… ah, I mean Ji Tanyue’s place, where is it again?]
“Miss Chao, how did she find this place?” Yu Yunjia suddenly spoke, her voice turning a few degrees colder.
Chao Wan hurriedly turned off her phone screen, afraid the woman would see. “Um, she… she’s my friend. She’s been here before…”
Yu Yunjia didn’t pay much attention to her checking the messages, but she glanced downstairs again, her brow slightly furrowed.
“We’re done with the tour here. Let’s go somewhere else,” she said, turning around.
Chao Wan wanted to explain further.
Just then, her phone buzzed a few more times, and at the same moment, a car horn sounded from downstairs.
[Wanwan, I see you.]
[Who’s that with you?]
Yu Yunjia narrowed her eyes, her usually unreadable expression showing a ripple of emotion.
“Miss Chao,” she gestured for Chao Wan to hand over her phone.
Chao Wan’s eyes widened slightly, a panicked feeling of trying to deceive herself washing over her.
Unable to find a reason to refuse, she lowered her head and slowly handed over the phone.
Yu Yunjia scanned through the message history, typed a few words, and sent them.
She then deleted the record, not wanting Chao Wan to see.
“My apologies,” she returned the phone and gave Chao Wan a quick nod. “We’ve finished the tour of all areas. Please make yourself at home.”
A few more honks sounded from outside the window.
Chao Wan’s heart fluttered with anxiety as she followed Yu Yunjia to the first-floor entrance, wanting to speak but hesitating.
If she told Ji Tanyue about this, she wouldn’t be able to explain it.
“Yu…” Seeing the figure in the black suit dress about to leave, Chao Wan called out to her softly.
Yu Yunjia slowed her pace slightly, briefcase in hand, her tone indifferent. “Miss Chao, it’s best if you don’t wander around today, especially with those so-called friends of yours.”
The door closed without a hint of warmth.
Chao Wan stood there in a daze, her heart feeling hollow and unsettled.
She returned to the balcony, lifting the curtain to see if Fu Xi was still there.
Just then, she caught sight of her friend opening the back car door, grinning obsequiously as she invited the woman in the suit dress into the vehicle.
“Huh?” Chao Wan blinked in confusion.
Did Fu Xi know Miss Yu?
A moment later, Fu Xi took the driver’s seat, rolled up the window, and drove off.
A few minutes later, she sent Chao Wan a message, showing a shred of conscience:
[Babe, can’t take you out to play today. Don’t want you caught up in any gossip.]
Chao Wan: “…”
She bit her lip, feeling wronged.
What kind of friend was this? Abandoning her for a pretty face.
She had thought she could finally get some fresh air, but now her hopes were dashed, and she was left alone in the house once again.
With nothing to do, Chao Wan lingered on the balcony for a while before trudging dejectedly back to her room.
If she couldn’t find the right opportunity, would she be confined to this cold villa forever, aside from her daily schedules?
Like an exquisite vase put on display for others to admire, shown off by her patron to evoke envy, only to be stashed away again as a silent declaration of ownership.
And then, once the novelty wore off, discarded without a second thought.
They were all like that.
At this thought, Chao Wan curled her toes, a chill settling in her heart, leaving her speechless.
Would Ji Tanyue do something like that too?
The surveillance in the bedroom continued its silent work. Chao Wan caught a glimpse of it unintentionally, her heart racing.
She rubbed her face, clumsily trying to hide her thoughts, afraid that Ji Tanyue might notice what was on her mind.
A buzz from her phone interrupted the lingering thoughts about Fu Xi.
[y: Rubbing your eyes, are you still tired? Go take a proper nap.]
Her heart tightened abruptly.
Fingers trembling, Chao Wan carefully replied: [Something got in my eye.]
Wasn’t she supposed to be busy with work? Why was she still watching her through the surveillance?
[If you’re not tired, you can take a look at the script. I remember having the secretary bring it to you.]
It was the script for Moon Over West River. Secretary Yu had indeed given it to her during lunch but hadn’t said much else.
Chao Wan replied with a simple “Okay.”
After retrieving the script downstairs, she pursed her lips and carefully flipped through a few pages.
But once she started reading, she couldn’t tear her eyes away.
