My Ex Told Me She’s Still In Love With Me - Chapter 55
Chapter 55: Puppy
Meng Qingwu felt both amused and exasperated, realizing just how deeply this person could hold a grudge. She couldn’t help but apply a bit more pressure with her massage!
“Ah!”
Cheng Yi gasped, gritting her teeth to keep her expression from spiraling out of control, though her eyes began to shimmer with a hint of grievance.
“Did I say something wrong? It really happened.”
Back then, she had been completely bewildered, genuinely believing that Qingwu was going to call the police on her.
Meng Qingwu kept a straight face and cleared her throat. “That was so long ago. Why are you still remembering it?”
It seems having too good a memory isn’t always a blessing.
Finally, the numbness in Cheng Yi’s leg subsided. Her expression brightened, and she couldn’t stop smiling at Meng Qingwu. She was her girlfriend once again. Just the thought of it caused sweetness to well up in her chest.
“What are you silly-smiling about?” Meng Qingwu looked up and met her focused gaze. A sense of shyness, reminiscent of when they first made it official back in university, began to rise within her.
Cheng Yi just shook her head, smiling. Once Meng Qingwu sat down beside her, she reached out to wrap her arms around her waist, resting her head on Qingwu’s shoulder in another intimate embrace.
Meng Qingwu didn’t push her away. Instead, she gently stroked Cheng Yi’s head, sighing inwardly. After all their twisting and turning, they were still entangled with each other.
“What was the deal with that blind date today?” Meng Qingwu asked. Though she had her suspicions, she wanted to hear the confirmation from her.
Cheng Yi nuzzled against her and said in a muffled voice, “Mom said you were coming here for a blind date tonight, so I came.” As she spoke, her grip on Meng Qingwu tightened, as if afraid someone would snatch her away.
Meng Qingwu: “…Ms. Meng told me you were going on a blind date here tonight, so I came.”
Cheng Yi: “…” She looked up. “So, we were tricked?”
Once she realized it, she was both annoyed and amused. She hadn’t expected Ms. Yu to pull such a stunt.
“Isn’t that obvious?” Meng Qingwu leaned her head on her hand, feeling a bit of a headache. Then she thought of Lan Xining, who was always by Ms. Meng’s side, and her smile became even more frustrated. She had a hunch that Lan Xining was definitely involved.
But they were elders; what could they do? She could only shake her head and sigh at how their elders’ “wicked sense of humor” had been used on their own children.
“By the way, what’s the story with Ms. Qi? Do you two know each other?” Cheng Yi frowned, sensing the strange vibe between them earlier.
This time, Meng Qingwu’s gaze turned meaningful. “More than just ‘know’ each other. We almost got into a physical fight back then.”
Cheng Yi: “???” A fight? Meng Qingwu? She fell silent, recalling Qingwu’s personality in university. Actually, getting into a scrap didn’t seem entirely out of character for her back then.
“I know what you’re thinking,” Meng Qingwu said eerily.
Cheng Yi felt a sudden wave of embarrassment. “You know?”
Meng Qingwu gave her a side-eye and said slowly, “You’re thinking that me getting into a fight isn’t that unlikely.”
Cheng Yi: “…” Her face flushed, and her eyes turned watery with sheepishness.
Meng Qingwu huffed. “I’ve grown up now. I didn’t actually throw a punch back then, so how could I now?”
Cheng Yi tugged at Meng Qingwu’s hem like she was trying to get into her good graces, then leaned in to kiss her jaw, her eyes soft and warm.
Seeing her like this, Meng Qingwu sighed and said helplessly, “She was your junior in university.”
Cheng Yi’s eyes widened slightly, then her brow furrowed in confusion. “Then why don’t I have any impression of her at all?”
Hearing this, Meng Qingwu recalled something and burst into laughter, her eyes curving beautifully. “Do you remember a girl who used to follow you around with heavy smoky-eye makeup and an explosion of permed hair?”
Cheng Yi froze, searching her memories. Finally, from a crack in her mind, she pulled out a figure: a petite girl with an outfit and styling that seemed completely at odds with her personality.
Her eyes widened with disbelief. “You’re saying that person was Qi Yu?”
Meng Qingwu gave a soft hum of affirmation.
Cheng Yi: “…” She couldn’t be blamed for not making the connection. The Qi Yu from back then and the Qi Yu now were like two completely different people.
“She’s changed so much. How did you recognize her?” Cheng Yi asked.
At this, Meng Qingwu’s gaze became even stranger. “Because I helped her take off her makeup.”
As Meng Qingwu explained, the story unfolded. Back then, Qi Yu liked Cheng Yi, but Cheng Yi was already with Meng Qingwu. Qi Yu confronted Meng Qingwu, intending to act tough and declare she wouldn’t give up. However, for some reason, she suddenly started crying.
Meng Qingwu, who had been halfway through a lecture on logic, was baffled. Then she saw the heavy makeup running down the girl’s face with her tears, making her look like a messy, pitiful little stray cat. One can imagine what thick black eyeliner looks like once it’s been washed away by a breakdown.
In the end, Meng Qingwu had set aside her lecture and helped the girl remove the ruined makeup, revealing her true face.
“So you saw what she actually looked like even back then,” Cheng Yi whispered.
“Yeah. I suspect her sudden departure to go abroad might have been because she felt too embarrassed to face me,” Meng Qingwu shrugged. Who could stand acting like a tough love-rival only to end up crying so hard the “enemy” has to wipe your face? Anyone would want to leave the planet out of sheer shame.
Cheng Yi began to laugh softly, her eyes sparkling as she looked at Meng Qingwu. This was the person she loved—someone who, even when facing someone with “ill intentions,” was willing to offer kindness and tenderness in their moment of distress.
“Stop smiling,” Meng Qingwu said, covering Cheng Yi’s eyes. She felt that ever since they had talked things out, Cheng Yi had stopped being so guarded. That look in her eyes just now was exactly like a puppy looking at its owner.
She sighed inwardly. The more she thought about it, the more Cheng Yi seemed like a dog—especially with those sparkling eyes. She could almost imagine an invisible tail wagging behind her.
Cheng Yi pulled her hand down, pressed a kiss into her palm, and then buried her face in it, nuzzling affectionately. “Qingwu, thank you. Thank you for being willing to forgive and accept me again.”
Her eyes felt a bit sore. She should be happy, yet she felt like crying. Meng Qingwu didn’t speak; she just pulled her into a tight embrace, enjoying the rare moment of tranquility.
After holding each other for a long time, Cheng Yi suddenly looked up and whispered in her ear, “I don’t have to go back tonight, right?”
She remembered the embarrassment of being kicked out after she had picked Qingwu up from the hospital. Now that they were officially together again, that wouldn’t happen, right?
Knowing exactly what she was thinking, Meng Qingwu was both amused and exasperated. She gently rubbed Cheng Yi’s ear, remained silent for a beat, and finally uttered a single “Okay.”
Cheng Yi’s face lit up with a full smile. She leaned in to catch Meng Qingwu’s earlobe, licking it gently.
“Mmm—”
Meng Qingwu squinted, her hand stroking Cheng Yi’s hair. The soft strands sliding through her palm felt itchy, much like Cheng Yi’s actions—a sensation that reached straight into her heart.
“Can we?” Cheng Yi whispered.
Meng Qingwu opened her eyes, met by the bright ceiling light that left her mind blank for a second. “Shower first,” she heard herself say.
…
In the end, even Meng Qingwu wasn’t sure how they ended up upstairs. By the time she was fully aware, she and Cheng Yi were standing naked under the showerhead, water streaming down their bodies.
Her body, which hadn’t experienced intimacy for some time, began to shiver instinctively. Her vision started to blur.
“Cheng Yi… did you drug me?” Meng Qingwu asked hazily.
Cheng Yi’s movements paused. She looked up into Meng Qingwu’s misty eyes, both amused and annoyed. She leaned in and bit down lightly on Qingwu’s lower lip, using just enough force to wake her up.
“You can’t slander me anymore,” Cheng Yi murmured against her lips, grinding against them to remind her of her own “wicked” behavior.
Meng Qingwu burst into a laugh and cupped Cheng Yi’s face, squeezing slightly so that Cheng Yi’s lips puckered. Her eyes danced with amusement.
She leaned down to capture those cute lips, murmuring, “If you didn’t drug me, why do I feel so lightheaded?”
Cheng Yi let out a dissatisfied nip at the tongue invading her territory. Oxygen began to be plundered, and Cheng Yi’s breathing grew ragged. Her chest heaved, the lack of air stimulating her brain and giving rise to a different, intense pleasure. That suffocating numbness made her instinctively hold the person in front of her even tighter.
“Ngh—”
A short, sharp hum escaped Meng Qingwu’s nose, perhaps because the hug was getting a bit too tight. She finally released the “ravaged” woman, their foreheads resting against each other.
Beautiful eyes were covered by a watery shimmer, and the gaze coming through was misty, like an innocent child. But what they were doing was certainly not for children.
Deep red, full lips, having been released, seemed to have become dependent on their tormentor, twitching uneasily as if wanting to be taken back to that brink of fainting once more.
“Qingwu, hold me tight,” she whispered.
Meng Qingwu did as she wished, their bare skin pressing together even more closely. They both let out a sigh of contentment. Only the other’s body could bring such addictive comfort.
“Qingwu, kiss me,” Cheng Yi invited again.
Meng Qingwu tilted her head, seeking out those lips glistening with water, and once again fulfilled her request. The sound of the running water masked the small noises of their kissing, but the two people immersed in it could feel everything.
Cheng Yi’s legs began to go weak.
“Qingwu… want me.”
