My Ex-Girlfriend Has Always Been Secretly in Love with Me - Chapter 2
“Not bad, but why on earth are you grabbing that thing?”
Yu Yixian looked up along the hand to see a cold, noble face reflected in her eyes, with pupils as thick as ink gazing down at her. However, before she could examine it closely, another figure emerged from behind this person.
A figure who felt both familiar and strange.
“It’s you. What a coincidence,” the person said, seemingly surprised to see Yu Yixian, and began to greet her quite naturally.
With wavy brown hair draped over her back and a pair of flirtatious peach-blossom eyes, this familiar face belonged to none other than Xia Ke’s cheating partner.
The scene currently unfolding was:
Xia Ke’s cheating partner, the person I had fallen in love with at first sight, Myself, and my ex-girlfriend Xia Ke.
Facing a situation like this, even Yu Yixian, who had handled all sorts of major scenes, was uncharacteristically silent.
Xia Ke turned her head, looking completely shocked. “Q, Qingyu!”
She looked from Yu Yixian to Chu Qingyu and back again. For a moment, all the excuses she had prepared were stuck in her throat—unable to go up or down. The atmosphere became momentarily awkward.
An ex-girlfriend and a cheater meeting again—if the situation is already a mess, you might as well drink it while it’s hot.
Yu Yixian couldn’t help but let her mind wander.
In the end, it was the only person in this love triangle who had nothing to do with it who broke the deadlock.
“Acquaintances? You guys chat, I’m leaving.” Ling Yun shoved her hands into the pockets of her overcoat, swept a glance around the group, and let her aloof gaze linger on Yu Yixian for half a second. Yu Yixian looked back with surprise and anticipation, but the other woman simply turned and walked away decisively.
“Please wait a moment!” That was Yu Yixian trying to stop Ling Yun.
“Yixian, you can’t go!” That was Xia Ke holding onto Yu Yixian.
“Eh.” That was Chu Qingyu wanting to call out to Yu Yixian.
Yu Yixian let out a light click of her tongue and turned back to look at Xia Ke. The expression on her face could only be described as cold. If Qiao Xin had been present, she would surely have been shocked enough to pull out her phone and record this rare moment—it was the first time she had ever seen Yu Yixian look angry at a girl!
“Xia Ke, if you didn’t want to break up because of my family background, then you can give up. I am an illegitimate daughter, and the family property has absolutely nothing to do with me. So, you don’t need to waste any more energy on me. Can you let go of me now?”
Yu Yixian knew full well that Xia Ke had agreed to be with her because she had seen her mother drop her off at school in a luxury car. Later, Xia Ke had secretly pried into her family background. Yu Yixian hadn’t deliberately hidden it, and anyone with a mind to could find it out.
But when she liked Xia Ke, these things weren’t an issue. She could use money to make her girlfriend happy, so she had no reason to refuse. But the problem was that back then, she liked Xia Ke and was willing to do anything for her. Now that she didn’t like her anymore, she didn’t mind telling a few lies to save herself from the entanglement.
Xia Ke’s true intentions were ruthlessly poked at by Yu Yixian. Her face alternated between pale and flushed. She instinctively let go of her hand, and the warmth on her palm dissipated quickly. Yet, she still felt unwilling to accept it. For a moment, she didn’t want to believe Yu Yixian, but then she remembered that Yu Yixian had never lied to her. If what she said was true, then she wouldn’t get anything!
Right, if I lose Yu Yixian, there’s still Chu Qingyu!
Xia Ke instantly perked up and turned to look at Chu Qingyu, only to find that her gaze didn’t seem to have ever been on her; it had been fixed on Yu Yixian the entire time.
Yu Yixian finally shook off Xia Ke and took a few quick steps to catch up with Ling Yun, who hadn’t gone far.
“Hello, could we be friends?” Yu Yixian blocked Ling Yun’s path, hiding her hands behind her back, and offered a slightly shy smile.
Ling Yun paused, locking eyes with Yu Yixian. She fell silent, not answering immediately as she looked into those bright, clear eyes. The fingers hidden in her overcoat pockets curled slightly.
“Ling Yun, you walk too fast.” Chu Qingyu caught up, complaining with a smile, then looked straight at Yu Yixian. “Hi, don’t misunderstand. I didn’t know you two were dating back then, so I broke up with her after that day.”
Yu Yixian gave Chu Qingyu a polite smile, but her expectant gaze returned to Ling Yun. “Is your name Ling Yun? Your name matches you perfectly; it’s very nice. I’m Yu Yixian. Do you want to exchange contact information?”
Ling Yun glanced at Yu Yixian, her expression unreadable as she lowered her head and walked around her quickly, leaving behind only a cold, “No need.”
Yu Yixian’s lingering gaze followed Ling Yun’s retreating figure. Chu Qingyu, who hadn’t left yet, let out a soft laugh. “So cold, isn’t she? Why don’t you exchange contact info with me? My surname is Chu, Chu Qingyu.”
As she spoke, Chu Qingyu took out her phone and held it out to Yu Yixian.
Yu Yixian didn’t move as she looked at the phone in front of her, then lifted her eyes to meet Chu Qingyu’s gaze. Chu Qingyu immediately displayed her usual, effortlessly charming smile.
“What is your relationship with Ling Yun?” Yu Yixian didn’t fall for it, but she remembered that this person had emerged from behind Ling Yun, and their conversation had been quite familiar.
“Add me first, and then I’ll tell you.” Chu Qingyu shook the phone, raising an eyebrow at Yu Yixian.
Yu Yixian glanced over at her roommates, who were waiting for her, and took the phone to add her WeChat.
“Let’s be in touch later.”
Throwing the phone back into Chu Qingyu’s arms, Yu Yixian didn’t delay any further and jogged back to her roommates.
“Let’s go, let’s go. Sorry to keep you waiting. I’ll treat you all to milk tea in a bit,” Yu Yixian said with a smile.
“Then I’m definitely ordering an expensive one!” Wang Xiaoyue stroked her chin, raising her hand with excitement.
“It’s my pleasure.” Yu Yixian performed a gentlemanly bow. The girls giggled as they waved down a taxi by the side of the road and left.
Chu Qingyu stood where she was, raising an eyebrow, and let out a laugh as she thought of Yu Yixian’s magnificent and bright face.
“So there was such a beautiful junior in the school after all. But it seems she prefers that ice cube, Ling Yun. What am I to do? I can’t bear to see such a pretty junior get the cold shoulder.”
“Qingyu, listen to my explanation. I have nothing to do with her. I just wanted to make things clear so she would stop pestering me. I don’t know how she got the wrong idea. Qingyu, can you forgive me? I really do like you.”
Xia Ke’s voice came from behind. A playful expression crossed Chu Qingyu’s face. She turned around, raised an eyebrow, and smiled. “Xia Ke, I just realized you have the talent of being thick-skinned. If you step on two boats, you have to be prepared to capsize. Still, I have to thank you for letting me know that there is such a beautiful and interesting little junior around me.”
Xia Ke’s face went pale instantly.
The hot pot restaurant was newly opened, offering thirty off for every two hundred spent. Yu Yixian and her friends looked at each other and immediately ate over four hundred worth of food. If there’s a discount, not using it would be a loss!
After eating, Yu Yixian fulfilled her promise to treat them to milk tea. The four of them sat in the tea shop, each with a cup, chatting while they drank.
They had been too hungry to talk while eating, only stuffing their faces. Now that they were full and satisfied, their desire for gossip was bubbling over. They each stared at Yu Yixian with eyes brighter than lightbulbs, but they all maintained their boundaries and didn’t take the initiative to ask.
If Yu Yixian was willing to talk, they would listen; if she wasn’t, they would pretend they knew nothing.
Amused by their little gestures, Yu Yixian took a big sip of milk tea and briefly explained what had just happened.
“…She, she is too shameless!!” Tang Jia, who was always introverted and quiet, showed anger in front of them for the first time, surprising the others.
“So our little rabbit has a temper too. Good, good, keep it up!” Wang Xiaoyue patted Tang Jia’s shoulder, full of encouragement.
Yu Yixian also nodded in agreement. “Keep it up.”
Ye Qian saw Tang Jia shrinking back after being praised by Yu Yixian and covered her forehead. She glared at Wang Xiaoyue, who wanted to continue teasing, and brought the situation back on track.
“Alright, quit teasing Jiajia.”
However, Tang Jia being so angry made Ye Qian look twice. She guessed the reason and sighed for Tang Jia in her heart.
“Senior Ling is from the Computer Science department. I heard she is very capable. She’s a senior this year, about to graduate, and has already received offers from several companies.” Ye Qian turned to Yu Yixian, answering her earlier question.
Yu Yixian’s eyes brightened, her tone hard to mask her excitement: “She’s that amazing? Does she have a partner? Can you get her class schedule?”
Ye Qian stroked her chin and thought for a moment. She did know a few seniors in the Computer Science department; getting a schedule shouldn’t be a problem.
“Hold on, I’ll ask for you.”
“Mhm, mhm.”
Not long after, Ye Qian sent her a picture.
Most seniors didn’t have many classes, especially since they were about to graduate; everyone’s focus was on their graduation thesis.
Yu Yixian looked at the two lines of classes and felt a bit troubled, but she immediately talked herself into it. “Forget it, morning classes are fine!”
“Huh?” Wang Xiaoyue leaned over when she heard this, saw the schedule, and curled her lip. “So relaxed, I want to be a senior too.”
Only five classes a week! Except for sleeping in on Wednesday and Friday mornings, they had full schedules the rest of the time, and they had to take electives in the evenings. It was too painful!
Wait!
Wang Xiaoyue leaned toward Yu Yixian, unsure as she asked: “You don’t mean…”
Yu Yixian nodded affirmatively. “That’s right.”
Tang Jia was left confused by their riddle-like conversation, looking at Ye Qian in bewilderment.
Ye Qian smiled and patted Tang Jia’s head. “Grown-up business, kids shouldn’t get involved.”
Even though it was Saturday and there was no curfew, everyone stopped while they were ahead, and by eight o’clock, they were ready to head back.
It was almost ten o’clock when they returned to the dormitory. It was a four-person dorm with individual desks and private bathrooms. Yu Yixian wasn’t sleepy yet, so she sat in a hanging chair and let the others go shower first.
She really wanted to dig into some intel on Ling Yun from Chu Qingyu.
[Chu Qingyu: Junior, why are you ignoring me?]
[Chu Qingyu: Are you free lately? Senior would like to treat you to a meal, just as an apology for accidentally stealing your ex-girlfriend.]
[Chu Qingyu: So aloof, little junior. Do you hate me that much?]
[Chu Qingyu: Then, do you still want Senior Ling’s contact information?]
[X: Yes, thank you, Senior~]
[Chu Qingyu: …]
Chu Qingyu laughed in frustration. She turned her head toward Ling Yun, who was sitting across from her with her back turned, writing a thesis, and a deep thought crossed her eyes.
“What should I do? If the pretty junior asks for your contact info, should I give it to her or not?” After the stressful meeting ended and the others had gradually left, Chu Qingyu got up and sat beside Ling Yun, watching her type away on her computer without looking up.
“As you like.” The simple, faint words made Chu Qingyu freeze. She watched Ling Yun close her laptop and leave the conference room without looking back, yet she still sensed an air of anticipation from that retreating figure.
Did Ling Yun know Yu Yixian beforehand?
A spark of doubt crossed Chu Qingyu’s mind. Otherwise, given Ling Yun’s personality, the answer would definitely have been “No,” but this time the answer was “As you like,” which was no different from saying yes.
But when she was pursuing Ling Yun, hadn’t Ling Yun said she wasn’t interested in women?
