My Clingy Fiancée Is Forcing Me to Marry Her Again - Chapter 37.1
The meeting place was a members-only lakeside restaurant.
Under the guidance of a waiter, Li Fangge and Guan Xiaoyu arrived at a private room with a large French window.
Chen Beizhe was already seated inside. Dressed in a white shirt, he sat quietly facing the glass window, as if looking out at the lake and mountains.
Hearing the sound, he turned around and slowly got up after a long while.
“Did I remember wrong?”
Chen Beizhe’s voice was a little dreamy, and he looked somewhat disoriented. His gaze, which seemed fixated on Li Fangge, was dull. “The one who was supposed to be on a blind date with me today wasn’t Miss Guan? Why—”
The man’s face had a sickly pallor, and wearing glasses, he exuded an air of scholarly refinement. He didn’t look like a businessman at all.
Li Fangge calmly met Chen Beizhe’s gaze. The person in front of her didn’t look thin or weak; his shoulders could even be considered broad. However, he looked damp, like a cloudy, rainy day, resembling a shade-loving plant that never sees sunlight, giving off a feeling of extreme fragility.
“It seems Mr. Chen knows Sister Li, so I won’t bother with introductions.
“I know this might seem abrupt, but in order not to waste our time, I’ll be direct. I am meeting Mr. Chen today because of pressure from my father. Let’s just forget about this blind date.”
Guan Xiaoyu was straightforward.
Chen Beizhe, however, acted as if he hadn’t heard her. He kept looking at Li Fangge, giving her the feeling that he didn’t care at all about what Guan Xiaoyu had said to him, nor did he care why Li Fangge had appeared so abruptly at this supposed blind date.
An ordinary person shouldn’t remain silent like Chen Beizhe; they should react more sharply.
Not to mention, he was Li Fangge’s creditor!
Was he really the person she needed to eliminate for the new task assigned by the System?
Li Fangge felt something was off. From the moment Chen Beizhe turned around to standing up, and then speaking to Guan Xiaoyu, he never spared a single glance for his actual date.
He had been staring at Li Fangge the entire time, like an obsessed devotee unable to look away.
Li Fangge noticed Guan Xiaoyu was starting to get annoyed, so she politely said, “Hello, Mr. Chen.”
She was wearing high heels today, making her appear an inch or two taller than Chen Beizhe.
Li Fangge wouldn’t make any rash moves before figuring out the man’s intentions.
“Miss Li herself looks—” Chen Beizhe swallowed, but his gaze remained fixed on Li Fangge. “It’s a great pleasure to meet you.”
“Chen Beizhe!” Guan Xiaoyu, standing beside her, couldn’t tolerate it anymore and angrily called him by his full name. “I forbid you from staring at my Sister Li like that again!”
This dominant declaration of ownership was indeed typical of the pampered beauty.
Li Fangge smiled faintly. She was a little uncertain whether the sudden, suspicious flush creeping up Chen Beizhe’s pale face was due to shame over his loss of composure, or because of her.
She didn’t respond to Chen Beizhe’s words but turned her head to Guan Xiaoyu, making a self-deprecating comment, “Perhaps I shouldn’t have come.”
“He shouldn’t be staring at Sister Li so rudely!” Guan Xiaoyu’s face was flushed with anger, seeing Chen Beizhe still staring at Li Fangge like an idiot. She gave him a fierce glare.
“—Or should I step out and wait for you?”
Li Fangge spoke as if no one else were present, her voice so gentle and pleasant that it gave one goosebumps.
Guan Xiaoyu withdrew her gaze and looked at Li Fangge. “Since we’re already here, what difference does it make whether you step out or not?”
Chen Beizhe’s sticky gaze instantly turned cold. Li Fangge and Guan Xiaoyu, who were looking at each other, didn’t notice a visible wave of hostility emanating from him—
Li Fangge nodded and turned to look at Chen Beizhe. “I’m afraid this blind date will be a disappointment to you, Mr. Chen.”
She tried to be friendly. Logically, Chen Beizhe should be the one who was angry right now, but he looked relatively calm.
He wasn’t angry about Li Fangge’s untimely appearance, nor did he seem to care that she owed his company so much money. Guan Xiaoyu had called him by his full name and practically yelled at him, yet he didn’t seem to mind.
Other than looking alarmingly pale, he didn’t appear to be acting strangely.
So, was he also just humoring his parents with this meeting?
Li Fangge could only come up with this possibility.
“I didn’t have any expectations anyway,” Chen Beizhe replied.
The moment Li Fangge withdrew her gaze from Guan Xiaoyu, his eyes instantly became dreamy again.
It was as if Li Fangge’s unexpected appearance was a sudden, immense beautiful dream for him.
Even now, he couldn’t quite believe it was real—
After a long pause, he finally looked at Guan Xiaoyu. “Please sit.”
Compared to the “It’s a great pleasure to meet you” he had said to Li Fangge earlier, this “Please sit” sounded utterly devoid of emotion and very perfunctory.
He quickly looked back at Li Fangge. “Miss Li, please sit as well.”
In contrast to the previous remark, this one sounded thoughtful and careful.
Li Fangge nodded, helped Guan Xiaoyu with her chair, and waited until she was seated before taking her own seat.
Chen Beizhe also sat down.
At this point, a faint, inexplicable smile surfaced on his face. The smile felt unreal, as if he didn’t know how to smile, causing his expression to look slightly contorted.
“Mr. Chen, why do you keep looking at me? Guan Xiaoyu is your blind date.”
Feeling somewhat uncomfortable under Chen Beizhe’s stare, Li Fangge couldn’t help but make a casual joke.
Although she knew she was attractive, it was abnormal for Chen Beizhe, an Alpha, to stare at her, also an Alpha, like this.
“Exactly, I’m your blind date!”
Guan Xiaoyu’s anger flared up again. She knew many people were captivated by Li Fangge’s appearance.
But Chen Beizhe, who dared to look at Li Fangge so brazenly in front of her, was the first. And to do it in this setting—he was simply too disrespectful.
“I am very happy to meet both of you today,” Chen Beizhe said, adjusting his glasses.
Whether from happiness or nervousness, a thin layer of sweat appeared on his forehead and the tip of his nose.
“Both of you?—I think you’re only happy because you saw Sister Li!”
Li Fangge had never seen such a sharp side of Guan Xiaoyu. Possessiveness warped her perspective.
“If Miss Guan insists on saying so, that’s fine.”
Chen Beizhe genuinely didn’t seem to intend to hide his true feelings upon seeing Li Fangge.
Li Fangge started to feel uneasy. Seeing Guan Xiaoyu about to explode again, she quickly interjected, “Mr. Chen, what you’re saying is inappropriate.”
“I am indeed very happy to see Miss Li.”
Li Fangge: “…………”
Guan Xiaoyu: “…………”
Chen Beizhe continued, “I haven’t been this happy in a long time.”
His voice was airy, as if carried by the wind from a distance.
The sweat beads on his pale forehead grew larger, threatening to slide down, yet Chen Beizhe seemed utterly oblivious.
“Mr. Chen, are you feeling unwell?” Li Fangge couldn’t help but ask.
Guan Xiaoyu also seemed to realize that something was wrong and had to suppress her anger.
“I—”
Chen Beizhe lightly sniffed the air.
Li Fangge and Guan Xiaoyu both noticed a faint, subtle, delicate fragrance that had permeated the air.
“It smells like plum blossoms,” Guan Xiaoyu said hesitantly.
Li Fangge nodded in agreement; it did smell very much like plum blossoms.
They didn’t think negatively about the sudden appearance of the scent.
Just as Li Fangge was about to say something, Chen Beizhe across from them abruptly stood up. “Excuse me, I apologize.”
He practically fled in disarray.
Watching his frantic retreat, Li Fangge and Guan Xiaoyu realized that his pheromones had leaked.
Although the scent wasn’t strong, to avoid being affected, they instinctively covered their mouths and noses and quickly stood up, hurrying out of the private room.
They had just stopped under a tall apricot tree in the restaurant garden when two restaurant staff members rushed over, looking hurried. The leading woman asked Li Fangge and Guan Xiaoyu if they felt unwell, and both shook their heads.
The woman’s tightly furrowed brow relaxed a little. She said, “I apologize. Mr. Chen had a sudden episode and has been taken to the hospital. We have arranged another table for both of you, please follow me.”
“Sister Li, I’m not in the mood to eat anymore.”
Hearing Guan Xiaoyu, Li Fangge looked at the two employees in formal attire. “Which hospital did Mr. Chen go to?”
The leading woman gave the hospital’s name.
“We need to go to the hospital. Let’s cancel lunch.”
Since the restaurant had other customers to check on for impact, they didn’t try to stop them. “Then I will escort the two of you.”
On the way out, Guan Xiaoyu called Hong Tao.
By the time the woman escorted them to the main entrance, a car was already waiting by the road.
During the entire drive back, Guan Xiaoyu stared out the window. The silence made the air inside the car incredibly heavy.
Several times, Li Fangge wanted to say something, but she felt that Guan Xiaoyu might need time to process everything that had happened at the lakeside restaurant.
At a fork in the road, while waiting for the green light, Hong Tao broke the silence: “Miss Guan, should we drop Miss Li off first, or…?”
“Go to the Pheromone Health Hospital.” Guan Xiaoyu was still looking out the window.
Li Fangge was stunned. “Are you serious? I just said that casually.”
“Chen Beizhe had an incident while he was with us. We should go see him.”
