- Chapter 60 - The Gift
And then what followed was
Linen’s eyes were misty and blurred. She asked in a daze, “What gift?”
Ji Zeyuan kissed away the tears at the corners of Linen’s eyes and said, “I’ll tell you tomorrow.” She paused, then asked again, “Tell me the truth, do you want me to invite your mother here?”
“Miss Zhang, are you satisfied with this makeup?”
The makeup artist’s voice pulled Zhang Linen’s thoughts back to reality. She looked at herself in the mirror; she couldn’t feel much of a difference, but she didn’t care about these things either. She said simply, “It’s fine.”
Hearing these words, the makeup artist quietly breathed a sigh of relief. After the artist left the room, Shen Jiuyue, who was standing nearby, teased with a smile, “My makeup artist said that people in their line of work are most afraid of meeting someone naturally beautiful. The prettier the person, the harder it is to start—after all, you’re already beautiful without makeup. If they don’t do it right, it creates the opposite effect.”
Zhang Linen lowered her eyes and sighed, asking, “Why are you still staying here?”
Shen Jiuyue clasped her hands together. “Can we take a group photo?”
Zhang Linen frowned slightly, not understanding her intent, but she quickly realized what Shen Jiuyue was trying to do. She said, “Are we that close? If you want to trend on the hot searches, there are plenty of other people.”
Ever since Ji Zeyuan and Zhang Linen officially announced their relationship, Shen Jiuyue had never sought out Ji Zeyuan again. More miraculously, Shen Jiuyue had transformed from a “scandal queen” into a career-driven power woman, taking on film after film, while her scandals vanished entirely.
Many people speculated that Shen Jiuyue’s heart had been broken by that “scumbag” Ji Zeyuan, leading her down a path of success where she loved only money and abandoned romance.
“If you won’t take one, then forget it. But…” Shen Jiuyue said, “Don’t you think that if the two of us are in the same frame, the rumors online about Ji Zeyuan cheating during the relationship would fall apart on their own?”
Zhang Linen was silent for a moment before saying, “Get out.”
Shen Jiuyue pursed her lips in annoyance and turned to leave. She intentionally walked very slowly, counting to three in her heart. Sure enough, as she expected, before she reached “two,” Zhang Linen called out to stop her.
…
“Are you particularly nervous?” Hua Jianjiu leaned against the doorframe, asking with a smile.
Ji Zeyuan was restless, but it wasn’t because of the wedding. The wedding had been in preparation for a long time; because many famous tycoons and socialites were attending, the two had been forced to rehearse several times beforehand, and she had long since become desensitized to the ceremony itself.
What she was truly nervous about was the gift she had prepared for Zhang Linen.
From their very first time, Ji Zeyuan had discovered that Zhang Linen seemed to have some rather unusual preferences regarding intimacy. For example, she always liked to roughly tear her clothes, squeeze her neck forcefully, or grab her hair… things of that nature.
Although Ji Zeyuan neither understood nor particularly liked it, every time she saw Zhang Linen’s expression of enjoyment, she felt that this bit of pain was nothing.
To prepare this gift for Zhang Linen, Ji Zeyuan had researched a lot of information and specifically consulted some “insiders.” Although she saw many terrifying and bizarre things because of it, the moment she thought of Zhang Linen’s happy expression upon receiving the gift, she couldn’t help but laugh out loud.
The wedding process went exactly as it had during rehearsals. Zhang Qian did not show up even after the two had exchanged rings.
“I thought you would secretly invite her,” Zhang Linen said. The seats below were full, and her gaze swept over everyone present.
“Tell me the truth, do you want me to invite your mother here?”
Her ink-black eyes cleared instantly, and her cherry lips pursed in conflict. She said, “If she wanted to come, she would have come on her own.”
The sound of camera shutters clicked incessantly. Ji Zeyuan silently held Zhang Linen’s hand and placed a gentle kiss on her ring finger.
Three hours ago…
“Xiao Yuan, I’m truly sorry. That day my mood was just too foul, and for some reason, I said those things to Xiao En. I…”
Ji Zeyuan interrupted Zhang Qian, saying, “Don’t come to the wedding.”
There was no sound from Zhang Qian on the other end of the phone.
Ji Zeyuan gritted her teeth and said, “If all you have for her is endless resentment, then don’t come back to disturb her.”
Ji Zeyuan had noticed that every time Zhang Linen argued with Zhang Qian, she would tear her clothes into shreds, not stopping even until her fingernails were torn back.
The silence lasted until the end of the call, and Zhang Qian was the one to hang up first.
The master of ceremonies was still holding the microphone, introducing some of the high-status guests. Ji Zeyuan scanned the rows of guests, frowning as she pondered, “I feel like… someone is missing.”
Zhang Linen said, “Didn’t we just find out? Mom didn’t come.”
Ji Zeyuan replied, “No, it’s…”
At that moment, the MC happened to say, “Now, let us welcome the father of the bride, the Chairman of Jixia Group, Mr. Ji Cheng, to come onstage and deliver his congratulatory speech.”
The audience was dead silent. Zhang Linen looked up at Ji Zeyuan in surprise.
Ji Cheng hadn’t come either.
“You’ve already set the wedding date?” That was the first thing Ji Cheng said when he picked up the phone.
Ji Zeyuan: “…”
“I’ve been too busy lately…”
Before Ji Cheng could finish, Ji Zeyuan hung up. She took the microphone from the MC and said, “Everyone, you may begin your meal.”
The crowd was in an uproar, and the MC was equally bewildered. Ignoring the astonished gazes of everyone, Ji Zeyuan took Zhang Linen’s hand and led her away from the wedding scene in full view of the public.
The MC shouted from a distance, “Hey, there’s still the toast…”
The wedding march lingered over the lush green grass. The bustling crowd had already dispersed into their own groups. The gorgeous wedding dress brushed over the soft green ground, white pigeons circled at a low altitude, and the clouds were light and the breeze was gentle.
“What did the Chairman say?” Zhang Linen was being pulled by her wrist by Ji Zeyuan, following along half-willingly.
Ji Zeyuan looked back at the chaotic wedding banquet scene and said, “Nothing, it’s not important.” Her hand tightened, and the ring on her ring finger clinked crisply against Zhang Linen’s two rings.
“I’m taking you somewhere to get your gift.”
Crossing the grass, the two arrived at a villa deep within a dense forest. The exterior of the villa was large, with a bizarre structure and a unique style; surrounded by trees, it formed a hidden paradise isolated from the world.
There were two foreign women in uniforms standing at the door of the villa. When Ji Zeyuan walked over, the two bowed their heads in respect and said in a foreign language, “Miss Ji, everything you requested has been prepared.”
Ji Zeyuan nodded. Her eyes flickered, and when she looked at Zhang Linen, her expression was mixed with a hint of bashfulness.
Zhang Linen was very good at capturing Ji Zeyuan’s micro-expressions. Her mood shifted from a sense of displaced confusion to one of anticipation and curiosity. She really wanted to know what Ji Zeyuan had prepared to make her show such a thought-provoking expression.
Walking into the inner courtyard of the villa, there was an open-air hot spring in the expansive atrium.
The water temperature was just right. Several Beta maids arrived carrying food and water. Ji Zeyuan instructed, “Wait outside, you don’t need to come back in.”
As soon as the maids left, Ji Zeyuan hugged Zhang Linen from behind.
Zhang Linen pushed Ji Zeyuan’s arms away and turned around, asking, “This is the gift?” Her face was flushed pink from the steam.
Ji Zeyuan’s pupils were watery, like two glass beads soaked in water. She shook her head and leaned down to kiss Zhang Linen’s lips.
“Mmm… mm…” Zhang Linen responded to Ji Zeyuan’s passionate, wet kiss until her lips were numb before Ji Zeyuan was willing to let go.
Zhang Linen originally wanted to ask something more, but after the lingering affection, everything was tossed to the back of her mind.
“Xiao Yuan, thank you.” Zhang Linen held Ji Zeyuan’s neck, kissing her over and over, her voice trembling slightly. “Thank you for not calling her over.”
Ji Zeyuan stroked Zhang Linen’s hair. She pecked the corner of Zhang Linen’s eye and smiled, saying, “I’ve been practicing holding my breath these past few days. Watch closely.”
After saying that, before Zhang Linen could react, Ji Zeyuan dove into the water.
Zhang Linen didn’t understand what Ji Zeyuan was doing until a surge of electricity traveled from her lower body through her entire being; then, she understood.
About a few seconds later, Ji Zeyuan emerged from the water. She took a few deep breaths and then dove back down again.
Zhang Linen held onto the wall of the pool, biting her lip and frowning. The feeling of the water entering was a bit strange, but it was more of a unique comfort.
This time lasted a bit longer. Ji Zeyuan rose from the water after ten or twenty seconds. She swept her soaking hair back behind her head, gave Zhang Linen a forceful kiss, and then lowered her head into the water again.
“Ah…” Zhang Linen suddenly arched her neck, unable to stop herself from let out a low moan.
This time lasted for half a minute. When Ji Zeyuan stood up, she nearly collapsed from a lack of oxygen.
“Are you happy?” Ji Zeyuan kissed Zhang Linen’s exquisite brows and high nose bridge one by one. Water droplets kept falling onto her shoulders, sliding down her smooth skin and back into the water.
The scent of green grass and roses filled the pool, gradually filling the entire atrium as the steam rose.
“It’s okay,” Zhang Linen said, intentionally not being too generous with her words.
Ji Zeyuan laughed. She cupped Zhang Linen’s face in her hands and gave her a solid kiss. Zhang Linen hooked her arms around her neck, wanting to kiss her back, but at that moment, Ji Zeyuan suddenly tilted her neck to the side and dodged.
Zhang Linen was stunned for two seconds. A meaningful smile hung on Ji Zeyuan’s lips. Zhang Linen suddenly snapped to her senses and kicked Ji Zeyuan’s calf, but because they were in the water, the force was buffered and lacked power.
“Is this fun?” Zhang Linen raised her hand to pinch Ji Zeyuan’s chin, flipping her over and pinning her against the pool wall.
Ji Zeyuan chuckled and said, “It is fun. I finally understand why you always play hard to get; it really is quite interesting.”
Zhang Linen lowered her eyes and said nothing. She slid her hand downward and, while Ji Zeyuan was still laughing and unaware, she gave her waist a sharp pinch. Ji Zeyuan’s whole body jolted, and she suddenly curled her body and clutched her waist, saying, “That hurts, Xiao En!”
“Is it fun?” Zhang Linen asked again. Her peach-blossom eyes narrowed, and her black pupils beneath thick lashes were like deep pools or abysses.
Ji Zeyuan quickly clasped her hands to beg for mercy: “I was wrong, wifey, I won’t make fun of you anymore.”
She added, “Actually, I prepared another gift for you. How about we go out now, and I’ll take you to see it?”
The two put on bathrobes. Ji Zeyuan led Zhang Linen into the interior. As they stepped onto the stairs, Zhang Linen suddenly grabbed Ji Zeyuan’s wrist. Ji Zeyuan turned back, and Zhang Linen said, “You called me that so smoothly just now; you must have practiced it behind my back for a long time, right?”
Ji Zeyuan choked, thinking: Can she even tell that? She had been trying so hard to stay calm just now, acting as if nothing had happened.
Zhang Linen exposed Ji Zeyuan, smiling teasingly: “Your hand is still shaking. It’s too obvious.”
Ji Zeyuan pursed her lips and said, “Fine, I admit I’ve been preparing just so I could call you that today. You… can’t you call me ‘wifey’ too?”
Zhang Linen’s eyes curved. “I’ll say it after I’ve seen your gift.”
The moment the door opened, Zhang Linen looked at Ji Zeyuan in disbelief, her dark eyes wide.
“…Is this a torture chamber?” Zhang Linen asked. She picked up a strange, black plastic board with spikes on it that was lying on the bed and waved it at Ji Zeyuan.
Ji Zeyuan shifted her gaze in shame, stammering, “Do you… do you like it?”
Zhang Linen tried her best to calm her emotions and asked hesitantly, “Are you telling me you want to use these things on me?”
“No, no!” Ji Zeyuan quickly denied. She let out a heavy sigh, muttered in internal conflict for a few moments, and whispered, “It’s… it’s for you to use on me.”
Zhang Linen: “…”
Does Ji Zeyuan actually have this kind of hobby?
Zhang Linen felt an indescribable sensation in her heart, but she didn’t show it on her face. She looked at those strangely shaped toys, silently wondering if she could actually bring herself to use them on Ji Zeyuan.
Meanwhile, Ji Zeyuan was also mentally preparing herself. After all, she didn’t have this kind of preference, but for Zhang Linen’s sake, she was willing to compromise.
“Fine, you…” Zhang Linen let out a barely audible sigh and asked, “Which one do you want to start with?”
Ji Zeyuan untied the belt of her bathrobe and knelt in front of Zhang Linen, her heart filled with a tragic sense of heroic sacrifice.
“You can do whatever you want, I… I’m okay with anything, but can you please be a little gentle?”
The sense of guilt in Zhang Linen’s heart doubled, because she actually felt a little bit tempted.
And then what followed was…
In short, the two of them didn’t end up using the full set, because halfway through, Zhang Linen discovered that Ji Zeyuan was shaking like a leaf. Ji Zeyuan also couldn’t help but admit that she was actually very afraid of these things. After a convoluted explanation, Zhang Linen finally understood that Ji Zeyuan actually had such a perverse misunderstanding of her.
…Though it wasn’t as if she had been accused entirely falsely.
