- Chapter 50 - Girlfriend
Melted completely into a pool of water.
For an Alpha to perform a permanent mark on an Omega is known as “forming a knot.” Generally, only partners intended for marriage will form a knot. Once a knot is formed, the Alpha can no longer mark other Omegas, and the Omega cannot be marked by any Alpha other than their partner. Even if the mark is later washed away or removed, the scars left by the marking are permanent.
“Alright,” Ji Zeyuan agreed immediately, her voice trembling. Ignoring the wound at the corner of her mouth, she leaned up excitedly and kissed Zhang Linen several times. “I really wish your heat would come right now.”
Having said that, Ji Zeyuan reached out to untie the belt of Zhang Linen’s bathrobe; she had long been unable to restrain herself.
“We aren’t doing it today,” Zhang Linen suddenly pressed down on Ji Zeyuan’s hand, smiling faintly.
Ji Zeyuan’s face turned as red as a Fuji apple. This sudden emergency brake was simply lethal.
“Xiao En,” Ji Zeyuan kissed the back of Zhang Linen’s hand, almost pleading, “Don’t do this. I… this is too difficult to bear.”
Zhang Linen hooked her finger, tilting Ji Zeyuan’s chin up. Ji Zeyuan frowned and rubbed her cheek against Zhang Linen’s palm, so anxious she was on the verge of tears.
“I said we aren’t doing it.” Zhang Linen flicked her hand away, her fingertip brushing past Ji Zeyuan’s chin, leaving a faint red mark on the fair skin.
Zhang Linen sat up, slowly and methodically tidying her messy bathrobe while saying, “We’ll do it after Hua Jianjiu leaves.”
Then she walked out of the bedroom, leaving behind a final sentence: “I’m sleeping in the other bedroom today.”
Ji Zeyuan lay on the bed, watching Zhang Linen walk out the door without looking back. The heat in her lower abdomen was like purgatory; she felt as though she were being tortured.
For a moment, Ji Zeyuan wanted to throw Hua Jianjiu directly out of the house, but her remaining logic and morality stopped her.
In the morning, Hua Jianjiu woke up from a daze. Her head felt as if it were splitting into four or five pieces, and her body felt like it was falling apart.
The scenery before her eyes was very unfamiliar. Her memory cut off at the point where they were drinking at the barbecue stall. She didn’t remember at all how she left the stall last night or how she ended up here.
Hua Jianjiu propped herself up and looked around at her surroundings. Suddenly, a familiar figure entered her field of vision.
“You’re awake?” Ji Zeyuan had just come out of the bathroom and saw Hua Jianjiu looking around with bleary eyes.
Hua Jianjiu’s gaze was dull. It took a while for her brain to “boot up” before she asked, “Where is this? Why are you here?”
Ji Zeyuan explained the events of last night to Hua Jianjiu. Hua Jianjiu scratched her head awkwardly and said, “I did drink a bit too much last night.”
As she finished speaking, the door to the bedroom on the right opened. Hua Jianjiu immediately straightened her body, looking at Ji Zeyuan and mouthing silently with exaggerated facial expressions: Is there someone else in your house?
Ji Zeyuan was also somewhat stunned; she had thought Zhang Linen would wait until Hua Jianjiu left before coming out.
Zhang Linen was wearing pajamas, her hair in a natural state of having just woken up. After Hua Jianjiu saw her face clearly, her jaw nearly dropped in shock.
“You two…” Hua Jianjiu hesitated. She didn’t dare make a reckless judgment, but in the early morning, given this “critical strike” of a scene, anyone would overthink it.
Zhang Linen glanced at her coldly, the corners of her mouth twitching upward with a faint sense of provocation: “Let me introduce you. This is my girlfriend, Ji Zeyuan.”
As soon as these words were spoken, not only was Hua Jianjiu stunned, but even Ji Zeyuan’s eyes widened.
She just said it… just like that?
Girlfriend?
Ji Zeyuan felt her heart flutter, and she couldn’t help but let out a low, involuntary chuckle.
However, Hua Jianjiu didn’t stay stunned for long. She quickly adapted to this change and nodded, saying, “You two finally found the right path.”
These words gave Ji Zeyuan a wave of emotion. She thought to herself: Yes, after so many years of misunderstanding, we are finally back on the right track.
Hua Jianjiu didn’t stay long at Ji Zeyuan’s house. After sobering up for a while and waiting until her head wasn’t so dizzy, she left.
Before leaving, Hua Jianjiu said to Zhang Linen, “That day I was in a bad mood and spoke without thinking. I hope you didn’t take it to heart. I’m sorry.”
Standing to the side, Ji Zeyuan looked confused hearing such words. Zhang Linen, having received the apology, didn’t have a large reaction; she simply nodded indifferently and said nothing.
After Hua Jianjiu left, Ji Zeyuan couldn’t contain her curiosity and asked Zhang Linen, “What did she say to you? I’ve never seen her so serious.”
Zhang Linen’s gaze shifted slightly, landing on Ji Zeyuan’s lips. She didn’t speak.
Ji Zeyuan naturally knew where she was looking. Her body felt as though a fire had been lit instantly; the flames that had been suppressed last night flared up again in a heartbeat.
Seeing Ji Zeyuan’s gaze transition from confusion to thirst, Zhang Linen curled her lips into a smile, turned around, and sat down on the living room sofa.
The sofa was made of leather, and it felt very cold against direct skin contact. Zhang Linen couldn’t help but shiver. She leaned against the back of the sofa, her pitch-black eyes staring straight at Ji Zeyuan without a shred of concealment.
Ji Zeyuan walked quickly to her side, but stopped her pace just as she reached her.
“I haven’t brushed my teeth yet,” Ji Zeyuan said. Zhang Linen looked at her without speaking. Ji Zeyuan hurried back to the bathroom and came out about two minutes later.
“All set.” Ji Zeyuan sat on the floor beside Zhang Linen, her gaze soft yet naked with desire.
Zhang Linen leaned down and kissed Ji Zeyuan’s lips. A fresh scent of toothpaste poured into her nasal cavity from her mouth. Their tongues intertwined and stirred, blending and spreading the fragrance.
Ji Zeyuan’s fingertips traced the contours of Zhang Linen’s face. The wound on the corner of her mouth where Zhang Linen had bitten her still hurt, yet she didn’t want this lingering kiss to end.
Zhang Linen raised her hand to stroke Ji Zeyuan’s neck, her thumb rubbing over the bite mark she had left. The mark was clear and deep. Ji Zeyuan trembled with pain and, using the hand that was stroking her, pulled Zhang Linen down from the sofa.
Unexpectedly, Zhang Linen fell into a warm embrace. Her peach-blossom eyes were deep and soft. Ji Zeyuan licked the redness at the corners of her eyes and pulled her deeper into her arms.
The “kitten” moved its paws, scratching at Ji Zeyuan’s chest. Ji Zeyuan doted on her, letting the kitten knead and scratch as she pleased.
“Xiao En, don’t hold back your voice,” Ji Zeyuan said, using her free hand to pry open Zhang Linen’s tightly closed lips. Zhang Linen let out two low “woo-woo” moans, glared at Ji Zeyuan somewhat resentfully, and pressed her voice even lower.
The kitten was naturally tsundere, always loving to do the opposite of what her owner wanted. To hear the cat’s cry, Ji Zeyuan first gently teased the cat’s ears and belly. Once the kitten was comfortable, she mischievously flipped the kitten over and “threw” her to the ground.
The floor was icy cold. Zhang Linen couldn’t control a low groan. The kitten trembled from the cold and immediately curled up into a defensive posture, as if refusing to let anyone touch her.
Ji Zeyuan scratched the sensitive cat ears; the kitten didn’t move. She then kissed the kitten’s head; the kitten moved slightly, gradually lowering her defenses and opening her legs.
“Sorry, the floor is very cold, isn’t it?” The culprit apologized insincerely. The kitten had already been played with until she lost her temper, melting completely into a pool of water.
Ji Zeyuan picked Zhang Linen up and placed her gently on the sofa. Crystal tears fell from the corners of Zhang Linen’s eyes as she murmured, “You’re so bad.”
“I love you,” Ji Zeyuan sucked on Zhang Linen’s pink, moist lips, telling her over and over again, “I love you, I love you, I love you…”
After the turbulence passed, Ji Zeyuan carried Zhang Linen to bathe her, then dried her with a towel and wrapped her in a blanket.
Zhang Linen lay on the bed, dazed, savoring the afterglow. Meanwhile, Ji Zeyuan had already begun to dress.
Ji Zeyuan kissed Zhang Linen’s lips and said, “I’m going to the headquarters. Get some good rest.”
On the way to the headquarters, Ji Zeyuan received a phone call from Ji Cheng.
Ji Cheng wanted to talk about the adoption notarization: “The lawyer has prepared all the necessary documents. Come to the City Notary Office tomorrow. Once the audit passes and the procedures are finalized, we will immediately hold a press conference.”
He spoke without the slightest hesitation, very fluently, as if everything was perfectly natural.
“I’m sorry, Dad, but I have no intention of going through with those procedures,” Ji Zeyuan said calmly and firmly.
There was a period of silence on the other end of the line. After a moment, he said, “Haven’t you already signed the papers?”
Ji Zeyuan said, “That was because Xiao En really wanted me to sign at the time, so I did. But I don’t plan on being the successor to Jixia anymore. The position of successor should belong to Xiao En.”
After another silence, Ji Zeyuan heard a very light sigh.
“Xiao Yuan, this notarization is for show. It might even be stopped at a certain step. Because your household registration has always been under the Ji family name, you are forever the first-in-line successor. As for Xiao En, she will always be a member of the Zhang family. There was never a possibility of her becoming the successor.”
Ji Zeyuan’s brows furrowed tightly. She didn’t understand why Ji Cheng had given up on Zhang Linen so quickly—or rather, it seemed that from the very beginning, Ji Cheng had never fought for even a sliver of benefit for Zhang Linen.
“Then…” Ji Zeyuan originally wanted to say she would move her registration back to the Zhang family so she could no longer be the heir.
But Ji Zeyuan stopped after saying only one word. She suddenly realized that if both her and Zhang Linen’s registrations were in the Zhang family, they wouldn’t be able to get married.
“Enough, Xiao Yuan. Don’t play at useless ‘sisterly’ loyalty. These things have been yours since you were born; why push them away? Besides, even if Xiao En isn’t my successor, now that we’ve acknowledged the relationship, I won’t mistreat her. Compared to her previous standard of living, isn’t this already very good?”
The more Ji Zeyuan listened, the heavier her heart felt. She couldn’t understand how, even if he hadn’t raised her himself, Ji Cheng could be so cold-blooded toward Zhang Linen.
“And Xiao Yuan, it was Linen herself who didn’t want to be the successor. She is indeed incapable of handling such a heavy responsibility. Isn’t forcing such a heavy crown upon her also a kind of burden and exhaustion?”
Hearing this, Ji Zeyuan knew that anything else she said would be useless. Ji Cheng also seemed to feel he had said all there was to say, so he added, “Fine, I have things to do. If you have more questions, I’m free this afternoon for a call. If there’s no issue, come to the City Notary Office tomorrow.”
The “beep-beep-beep” of the hung-up call sounded. At that moment, the car happened to pull up to the headquarters building.
Along the way, many employees bowed and greeted Ji Zeyuan. Usually, Ji Zeyuan would respond to each one, but today she truly wasn’t in the mood. Everyone saw that the CEO was in a bad mood and carefully bypassed her path.
Sitting in her office chair, Ji Zeyuan looked toward the frosted glass door beside her. Feeling a stir in her heart, she stood up, walked over, and pushed open the small door.
Zhang Linen had cleared out all of her things. Inside the office, only office files and a computer remained.
Ji Zeyuan wanted to check if Zhang Linen had left anything in the drawers under the desk. Suddenly, there were two “click-click” sounds of a lock turning, and the office door was pushed open from the outside.
Zhao Yan stood at the door holding a stack of documents. She froze for a second upon seeing Ji Zeyuan, but immediately put on a smile.
“Cousin, I am your new secretary.”
