- Chapter 49 - Pheromone Induction
Are you using pheromone induction on me?
“How was it? Was it comfortable this time?” Ji Zeyuan pecked at the corners of Zhang Linen’s mouth and the hollow of her neck, one by one, anticipating Zhang Linen’s praise.
Zhang Linen’s thighs were cramping slightly. She gripped Ji Zeyuan’s shoulders and gave the highest evaluation without reservation: “I feel like… I’m going to die.”
Ji Zeyuan let out a soft laugh. Holding Zhang Linen, she praised her from the bottom of her heart: “How are you so cute?”
As she spoke, Ji Zeyuan couldn’t resist stealing several more kisses from Zhang Linen, leaving a trail of hickeys on her fair neck.
“Xiao Yuan.” Zhang Linen’s tone suddenly deepened. Ji Zeyuan gave a muffled “Mhm” and asked, “What is it?”
Zhang Linen looked at her deeply, her eyes devoid of any impurity: “Can you say what you said the first time again?”
Ji Zeyuan was confused, not knowing what Zhang Linen was referring to.
Zhang Linen reminded her: “Those three words.”
Ji Zeyuan’s gaze softened. Pressing her forehead against Zhang Linen’s, her tone was steady and every word was sincere: “I love you.”
Zhang Linen stared at her intensely, trying to find a flaw in her eyes or expression, but she found none. She didn’t know what a person should look like when they said “I love you” with true sincerity anyway.
“Xiao Yuan.” Zhang Linen hugged Ji Zeyuan tightly, as if trying to melt herself into her body. Ji Zeyuan responded gently, “Mhm.”
Zhang Linen buried her head in Ji Zeyuan’s embrace, her voice cold and laced with a nearly imperceptible sob: “I won’t compete with you for anything, but you must never leave my side.”
Ji Zeyuan didn’t speak; she just gently stroked Zhang Linen’s soft, damp hair, as tenderly as if she were stroking a newborn baby.
“I am sincere… about loving you.” Zhang Linen paused between every word, as if she wanted to carve them into her heart.
Ji Zeyuan’s heart trembled; the first subconscious feeling she had upon hearing those words was shame.
“Me too,” Ji Zeyuan replied, hoping to ease Zhang Linen’s anxiety. But Zhang Linen only quietly looked up at her, her brows slightly furrowed, seemingly filled with bitterness.
This reaction made Ji Zeyuan’s answer feel thin and powerless.
Zhang Linen propped herself up and sat up, her thin body looking as if it had been carved down. She looked down at Ji Zeyuan solemnly, speaking her few sentences with the resolve of one who had burnt their bridges: “I will give you everything. I can stop caring about everything in the past. But if you betray me or leave me, I will never let you go in this lifetime.”
She spoke with extreme seriousness, emphasizing every word, as if she wanted Ji Zeyuan to sign and seal the oath on the spot.
Ji Zeyuan took Zhang Linen’s seriousness to heart. Her eyes flickered as she secretly weighed how to answer to sound more sincere and powerful. But before she could speak, someone’s phone suddenly rang.
Naturally, at a time like this, no one cared about an ill-timed phone call. Ji Zeyuan waited for the ringtone to stop automatically so she could speak, but the phone wouldn’t quit, ringing repeatedly and incessantly.
To stop the annoying ringing, both of them looked toward their phones simultaneously. It was Ji Zeyuan’s phone ringing; Hua Jianjiu was calling.
Zhang Linen caught a glimpse of the name displayed on the screen and said to the hesitant Ji Zeyuan, “Answer it. What if she has an emergency?”
Ji Zeyuan kissed Zhang Linen’s cheek and answered the phone. The voice coming from the other end was not Hua Jianjiu’s, but a strange woman’s voice.
“Hello, excuse me. I am not the owner of this phone. This person is dead drunk in our shop and we can’t wake her up. Your number is the only one on her phone that goes through. Do you think you could come pick her up? We are about to close up here.”
Hearing the situation, Ji Zeyuan agreed without a second thought. She asked, “Where is she?”
Zhang Linen saw the hint of helplessness in Ji Zeyuan’s tone. Once she hung up, she asked, “What’s wrong?”
Ji Zeyuan got out of bed and put on her clothes. She patted Zhang Linen’s head and said, “Hua Jianjiu is out drinking and is unconscious. The owner could only reach my number. I’m going to pick her up.”
An unusual flicker passed through Zhang Linen’s eyes, but she didn’t say much. She just nodded and said, “Okay, go ahead.”
…
When Ji Zeyuan found Hua Jianjiu, she was at a barbecue stall, drunk as a lord. The small restaurant had already closed its stalls; there were no other customers in the shop besides her.
The owner was sitting by Hua Jianjiu’s side keeping watch. As soon as Ji Zeyuan entered, she stood up and grumbled, “Aiyoh, what is she to you? Drinking alone like this in the middle of the night.”
Ji Zeyuan gave a polite smile and said, “She’s my friend. Thank you for looking after her.”
The owner was dazzled by Ji Zeyuan’s beauty; her previous resentment vanished instantly, replaced by a different face as she smiled: “It’s nothing, nothing. It was no trouble at all.”
Hua Jianjiu was truly so drunk she had no consciousness left. Ji Zeyuan had to exert a great deal of effort to get her into the car. As she was getting in, Hua Jianjiu was still mumbling something in her sleep—it seemed like she was calling someone’s name, but it was too blurred for Ji Zeyuan to hear clearly.
Ji Zeyuan originally wanted to send Hua Jianjiu home, but she tried several times and simply couldn’t wake her up. She didn’t know the password to Hua Jianjiu’s house either, so she had no choice but to bring her back to her own home.
“Why did you bring her back?” Zhang Linen opened the door and saw Hua Jianjiu, unconscious and hanging off Ji Zeyuan, with a look of displeasure on her face.
Ji Zeyuan dragged Hua Jianjiu into the house and tossed her onto the sofa. While taking off her coat, she said, “In her state, I couldn’t just leave her alone in a hotel, so I brought her back.”
Saying this, Ji Zeyuan came over and kissed Zhang Linen’s cheek, whispering, “Alright, let’s go rest too.”
Zhang Linen looked at Hua Jianjiu slumped on the sofa, her gaze dim.
Ji Zeyuan went into the room to get a blanket to cover Hua Jianjiu. Just then, Zhang Linen suddenly spoke: “Why didn’t you send her home?”
This question made Ji Zeyuan freeze. She paused and explained, “I couldn’t wake her up, and I don’t know her house password.”
After saying that, Ji Zeyuan put her arm around Zhang Linen’s shoulder and said with some exhaustion, “Her house is too far. It would be a hassle to send her back and come back here.”
Zhang Linen remained silent. Ji Zeyuan let go of her to go wash up, but after only two steps, her arm was grabbed.
Ji Zeyuan looked back at Zhang Linen, who was holding her wrist, and asked in confusion, “What is it, Xiao En?”
Zhang Linen narrowed her eyes slightly, the corners of her mouth curving: “Give me a kiss.”
Ji Zeyuan smiled happily and leaned in to kiss Zhang Linen’s lips. Suddenly, her foot felt a sharp pain; Zhang Linen had tripped her hard. Ji Zeyuan stumbled backward. She instinctively grabbed a nearby chair. The chair flipped over with her, but it provided enough of a cushion that her head didn’t hit the floor.
“Xiao En?” Ji Zeyuan looked at Zhang Linen with panic and incomprehension.
Zhang Linen smiled gently. She crouched down and said, “Do you want to do it here in the living room too?”
Ji Zeyuan was stunned, unable to say a word for a moment. Her gaze flickered toward the sleeping Hua Jianjiu on the sofa before she finally said, “Do you mean right now?”
Zhang Linen nodded. She reached out to unbutton Ji Zeyuan’s shirt. Ji Zeyuan hurriedly pressed her hand down, laughing somewhat forcedly: “Xiao En, you’re joking, right? Hua Jianjiu is still here.”
The scent of grass-flavored pheromones was released faintly. Ji Zeyuan felt the desires within her body erupting continuously, her reason being gradually eroded.
“Xiao En…” Ji Zeyuan’s face was flushed red. She turned her head away, exercising extreme restraint. “Are you using pheromone induction on me?”
Zhang Linen smiled without a word. Ji Zeyuan was so stimulated and provoked that even her voice trembled when she spoke.
This was too bizarre. Hua Jianjiu was right there, yet Zhang Linen was saying she wanted to…
Ji Zeyuan stood up in a panic and went back to the room, putting a stop to this impulsive farce.
Zhang Linen gave Hua Jianjiu a cold look, then also stood up and returned to the bedroom. Inside the bedroom, the rose fragrance was as thick as a garden in full bloom.
Once back in the room, Ji Zeyuan no longer restrained herself. As soon as Zhang Linen entered, she was grabbed and thrown onto the bed.
“Haha… You’re too wicked, Xiao En,” Ji Zeyuan said with a low laugh, then kissed Zhang Linen’s lips. Driven by the primal desire of pheromones, this kiss was exceptionally long and entangled.
Zhang Linen was kissed until she could hardly handle it. She straightened her back and used all her strength to roll over and seize back the initiative.
“Xiao Yuan.” Zhang Linen pushed Ji Zeyuan back, pinning her arms down, her smile fading slightly. “Is your relationship with Hua Jianjiu a bit too good?”
Ji Zeyuan’s first reaction wasn’t to answer Zhang Linen’s interrogation, but rather to feel a bit amused seeing Zhang Linen “jealous.”
“Are you jealous?” Ji Zeyuan laughed dismissively. Zhang Linen had a shallow smile on her lips, but her eyes held no trace of joy.
The reason Zhang Linen reacted this way wasn’t just because of “jealousy.”
To some extent, she was indeed envious of Hua Jianjiu—or rather, anyone who was too close to Ji Zeyuan would cause such emotions in Zhang Linen.
But Hua Jianjiu wasn’t just any presence.
Eight years ago, when Ji Zeyuan was avoiding Zhang Linen, it was Hua Jianjiu who took Ji Zeyuan in. Because of Hua Jianjiu’s protection and cover-up, Zhang Linen hadn’t been able to catch even a glimpse of Ji Zeyuan until she went abroad.
And during the press conference, when Ji Zeyuan disappeared for no reason, she went straight to Hua Jianjiu’s house. Even after being away for so many years, her refuge was still Hua Jianjiu.
To Zhang Linen, Hua Jianjiu was a potential threat.
Zhang Linen leaned down and bit into Ji Zeyuan’s thin lips. Ji Zeyuan responded actively, but suddenly a dull pain came from her tongue. She let out a muffled groan and pushed Zhang Linen away.
“Does it hurt?” Zhang Linen pursed her lips, tasting the metallic, rusty flavor of blood in her mouth. Ji Zeyuan’s eyes welled with tears, and she said somewhat aggrievedly, “It hurts a lot.”
Zhang Linen tore open Ji Zeyuan’s collar and bit down heavily on the side of her neck again. Ji Zeyuan flinched in pain and instinctively tried to push Zhang Linen away, but Zhang Linen’s fingertips were locked tightly onto Ji Zeyuan’s collarbone, and her teeth were clamped shut. After pushing once and feeling the tearing pain in her neck, Ji Zeyuan didn’t dare move anymore.
After a long time, Zhang Linen finally let go. Ji Zeyuan’s eyes were red from pain. She gently touched the bleeding teeth marks and asked, “Xiao En, what’s wrong with you?”
Zhang Linen wiped the residual blood from her lips. The fresh blood smeared across her lips was more profound than lipstick.
The light from the crystal lamp in the bedroom was soft and bright. Outside the window, the bright moon in the night sky was curved like a sharp, piercing silver dagger.
Zhang Linen lay on top of Ji Zeyuan, her voice gentle and tranquil: “Xiao Yuan, next time you’re in heat, let’s form a bond (mark each other).”
