- Chapter 47 - Pheromone Suppression
A powerful Alpha pheromone sweeps through the area.
Zhang Linen quietly observed the conversation of several people. Once they had gradually walked away, she followed closely behind.
The corridor design of “Emperor City” was extremely jagged, winding like a labyrinth. Following those few drunks around the bends, Zhang Linen did not dare to lose focus for even a second, fearing she might lose them.
As she followed, she opened her phone. Her original phone had been broken, and she wasn’t yet familiar with the functions of the temporary replacement. It took her quite a while to find the voice recorder function hidden inside a folder.
Just as the group was about to round another corner, someone suddenly pushed her from behind, forcing her into a corner.
“Hey, what a coincidence. Isn’t this Secretary Zhang?” Mia’s blonde hair was a complete mess, her green eyes were dim, and her cheeks were flushed crimson. She reeked of alcohol; there was no telling how many bottles she had downed here.
Zhang Linen hastily hid her phone behind her back. She could see that Mia seemed heavily intoxicated. Confrontation at such a time was clearly dangerous, so she resorted to a stalling tactic, pretending to ask concernedly, “Um, why are you here too?”
While speaking, Zhang Linen was also quietly shifting her steps outward. Although Mia was drunk, her eyes were still sharp. She keenly perceived Zhang Linen’s subtle movements and reached out, pinning Zhang Linen’s right shoulder and pushing her against the wall.
Zhang Linen’s head struck the wall hard, causing a wave of dizziness.
“Are you afraid of me?” Mia squinted her eyes, her fingertips digging in with force. “You weren’t like this before. How did you put it? ‘Go die, you’re disgusting’… Am I really that loathsome?”
Seeing that she couldn’t break free, Zhang Linen decided to try and bait some information out of her: “You are capable, but not that capable. Being able to cause destruction isn’t the most impressive thing; being truly capable means doing it without leaving a single trace.”
Mia sneered in silence. Zhang Linen said, word by word, “Ji Zeyuan already knows it was your doing.”
As soon as she finished speaking, Zhang Linen quietly fumbled to turn on the voice recorder on her phone. But just as her fingertip touched the screen, a piercing pain shot through her arm, followed by the “thump” of the phone hitting the ground.
“You think I can’t see what you’re trying to do?” Mia leaned down to pick up the fallen phone. Zhang Linen acted quickly, taking the opportunity to deliver a heavy kick to Mia’s abdomen. Mia let out a muffled groan of pain and fell to her knees.
Zhang Linen grabbed her phone and prepared to leave. She had just stepped out with her right foot when her left ankle was violently grabbed, dragging her to the floor.
“You and Jessica—do you both think I’m an easy target?” Mia hissed through gritted teeth. Zhang Linen kicked desperately, trying to break free, but she was too frail. Mia possessed great strength, leaving Zhang Linen with no power to fight back.
Grasping her ankle, Mia stood up and began dragging her toward a private room. Zhang Linen clung desperately to the corner of the wall. She didn’t dare call for help at this moment, as it was highly likely that the people nearby were Mia’s associates.
Zhang Linen’s upper body was practically pressed against the floor as she was being dragged. She tried to use her hands for leverage to resist. At that moment, someone suddenly passed by. The sound of a camera shutter clicked, and Shen Jiuyue’s voice came from above.
“Let go, or if the police see this photo, you won’t be able to explain yourself,” Shen Jiuyue said in a low voice. Mia’s eyes widened in shock as she looked at Shen Jiuyue.
“Three…” Shen Jiuyue began the countdown.
With a grim expression, Mia decisively let go of Zhang Linen. She shot a cold glance at Zhang Linen, then turned and staggered away, clutching her stomach.
Seeing Mia leave, Shen Jiuyue hurriedly leaned down to help Zhang Linen up. Zhang Linen did not take Shen Jiuyue’s hand; she supported herself against the wall to stand up.
After a moment, Zhang Linen recovered from the sudden incident. She spoke slowly, asking, “Why are you here?”
Shen Jiuyue said, “I was going to the restroom.” Her gaze fell upon the purple bruises on Zhang Linen’s arm and ankle. She asked, “Shouldn’t you go put some ice on that?”
Zhang Linen lowered her eyes to look at her injuries. Seeing the vivid purple marks, she gritted her teeth and let out an angry “Tsk.”
“Where is Xiao Yuan? Are you two finished talking?” Zhang Linen asked. Shen Jiuyue nodded and said, “It just so happens I asked her if I could have dinner with you both. She told me to ask you.”
Zhang Linen remained silent with downcast eyes. Shen Jiuyue curled her lip and said, “I just helped you, you know. Besides, President Ji was the one who invited me. She didn’t say I couldn’t join for dinner; I can’t exactly eat by myself.”
“Why not? Do you need someone to feed you?” Zhang Linen retorted reflexively. After saying it, she remembered that Shen Jiuyue had just helped her, so she added: “If you must come with us, then come.”
Shen Jiuyue told herself that this was just Zhang Linen’s personality, then smiled and said, “Then it is truly an honor.”
Zhang Linen didn’t respond. She walked back toward the private room in silence. At the corner, the manager passed by. Seeing that Zhang Linen didn’t react, Shen Jiuyue took the initiative to ask the manager for a first-aid kit.
Before entering the room, Zhang Linen stopped in her tracks.
“What is it?” Shen Jiuyue’s heart hammered, wondering what she was going to do now.
Zhang Linen’s dark eyes flickered slightly. She pursed her lips and whispered in a voice only the two of them could hear: “Just now… thank you.”
Shen Jiuyue was stunned. Before she could respond, Zhang Linen pushed open the door. Inside the room, Ji Zeyuan had already arrived. She put down her phone and moved to greet Zhang Linen, saying, “Where did you go? I was just about to look for you.”
As she spoke, Ji Zeyuan saw Shen Jiuyue behind Zhang Linen and froze in surprise.
“Didn’t I say…”
Shen Jiuyue interrupted Ji Zeyuan with a rather triumphant smile, saying, “She agreed.”
Ji Zeyuan turned a startled gaze toward Zhang Linen. She pulled Zhang Linen by the shoulder and whispered, “Why didn’t you refuse her? I wanted to be alone with you.”
Zhang Linen curled her lips into a faint smile. She narrowed her eyes slightly, looking skeptical: “Then why didn’t you refuse in the beginning?”
Ji Zeyuan was left speechless. Behind them, Shen Jiuyue said gloomily, “You two, I can hear you.”
At that moment, the manager knocked and entered with the first-aid kit. Shen Jiuyue took the box and said, “I’ll do it. I used to handle my Alpha mother’s injuries frequently; I’m very skilled.”
Shen Jiuyue adjusted the room’s lighting to be bright. Only then did Ji Zeyuan notice the purple bruises on Zhang Linen’s arm.
“What happened here?” Ji Zeyuan asked with a frown, looking at Shen Jiuyue with a scrutinizing gaze. Zhang Linen spoke first: “I accidentally bumped into the corner of a table.”
Shen Jiuyue, who had intended to answer, saw Zhang Linen say this and sensibly kept her mouth shut.
However, Ji Zeyuan was no fool. These bruises were clearly marks from someone grabbing and pinching her arm. But since Zhang Linen was intentionally hiding it, she didn’t press further.
Ji Zeyuan gave a faint smile and said, “I’ll go ask the manager for the menu.”
With that, she turned and walked out of the room. Shen Jiuyue glanced and saw the menu book on the counter; she wanted to call out to Ji Zeyuan, but the door had already closed.
Shen Jiuyue took a bottle of Yunnan Baiyao spray from the kit and handed it to Zhang Linen, saying, “This works well.”
Zhang Linen took the spray and applied it to the wound. The cool liquid medicine seeped into her skin, easing much of the pain.
“Are you… together with President Ji?”
Shen Jiuyue asked out of the blue, her gaze falling on the bite mark on the back of Zhang Linen’s neck.
Zhang Linen remained silent for a long time. She tossed the spray back into the medical kit, neither nodding nor denying.
Everything was understood without words.
…
After leaving the room, Ji Zeyuan went straight to the front lobby. The manager saw her and hurried over, asking with a smile, “President Ji, is there anything you need?”
There were many people in the lobby—socialites and tycoons. Most didn’t know Ji Zeyuan personally but recognized her face. After such a major incident, everyone wanted to watch the drama. Since the protagonist of the drama was standing right there in the lobby, all eyes turned toward her.
Ji Zeyuan ignored the gathered gazes. She walked to the side with the manager and said with a fake smile, “Actually, I have something I’d like you to help me with.”
The manager was overwhelmed by the favor and said, “Please speak, President Ji. I will certainly do my best to support you.”
Ji Zeyuan lowered her voice as much as possible and asked, “Can you give me the names of the guests who came here today at this time?”
The smile on the manager’s face faded slightly. She said with some difficulty, “President Ji, you should know the rules here, this…”
A familiar Alpha pheromone caused Ji Zeyuan to lift her head. At a glance, she spotted Mia amidst a group of swaying, intoxicated people.
In a flash, she was certain of an answer and walked toward it.
Mia was leaning on someone’s arm, staggering along, when suddenly a powerful Alpha pheromone swept over her, crashing down like Mount Tai and leaving her breathless.
In an instant, all Alphas and Omegas scrambled to get away, desperate to avoid the pressure. Mia collapsed to the ground. Before she could react to what was happening, a heavy fist landed on her face.
“Damn it, who is it!” Mia shielded her face with her arms. Through the gaps in her fingers, she saw Ji Zeyuan’s face, filled with rage.
Ji Zeyuan released her pheromones without restraint. The suppression of a Superior Alpha made it impossible for Mia to breathe. If pheromones are released to a certain degree, they can even be lethal.
“What exactly will it take for you to behave? Do you have to be dead to stop looking for trouble?” Ji Zeyuan grabbed Mia’s hair, forcing her face straight.
The onlookers covered their noses and mouths; no one dared to step forward to intervene. The manager was also terrified and at a loss, fearing an accident but truly not daring to touch Ji Zeyuan.
Mia’s face was ashen, rendered speechless by the suppression of Ji Zeyuan’s pheromones.
Seeing the situation heading toward an uncontrollable conclusion, a Beta traveling with Mia finally stepped forward to stop her: “Miss, I don’t know what grudge is between you, but if you keep this up, she might die!”
Ji Zeyuan slowly let go and simultaneously retracted her pheromones. Mia took a massive gulp of air, coughing and choking with red eyes as if she had been drowning.
“Don’t let me see you again, and don’t go provoking Zhang Linen, or I definitely won’t let you off,” Ji Zeyuan warned coldly. She stood up and brushed the dust off her knees. Some people nearby were secretly taking photos, but she didn’t care. She turned and walked back toward the private room.
“Jessica, you’re the one who provoked me first!” Mia shrieked hoarsely. Ji Zeyuan looked back at her; no positive emotion could be seen in those amber eyes.
Looking back on the past, she had long known of Mia’s philandering nature. It was just that it hadn’t affected Zhang Linen back then. Although Ji Zeyuan had scolded her a few times, it didn’t have much to do with her, so she hadn’t intervened too much.
Ji Zeyuan sighed deeply, not wanting to waste more words on Mia. She turned around to leave, but her steps halted.
Zhang Linen was standing there, staring straight at her with a deep frown and a tight expression. Her mood was clearly not good. Shen Jiuyue stood behind her with the face of someone watching a play.
