Are you waiting for someone’s message?
Hearing a satisfactory answer, Mia immediately beamed with joy. She checked her watch and said, “Miss Secretary, what time do you get off work? We can talk all night tonight.”
Zhang Linen replied with a shimmering gaze, “Now.”
Walking out of the office, Zhang Linen connected her Bluetooth headset to her phone, put it on, and then opened the tracker.
Seeing her like this, Mia said, “Miss Secretary, although we are just having a casual chat, isn’t it a bit impolite for you to act this way?”
Zhang Linen gave her a quick side-glance before looking away, remaining silent. She independently opened the chat window with Ji Zeyuan. Seeing Ji Zeyuan’s reply, she frowned and asked, “Are things over there rather difficult?”
The path announcement in her earphone reported that Ji Zeyuan had arrived at a restaurant. Zhang Linen switched to her browser and searched for it; it was a well-known local specialty spot.
Suddenly, the broadcast in her right ear was interrupted because the earphone was snatched away.
Holding the stolen earphone, Mia said with a smile, “What is Miss Secretary listening to? You’re so engrossed.”
As she spoke, she moved to put the earphone on herself. Zhang Linen reached out to snatch it back, but Mia raised her arm high and dodged backward, smiling quite flippantly. “Is the little secretary getting anxious? Are you listening to something unspeakable?”
Zhang Linen’s face darkened. She first calmly turned off the location broadcast on her phone and then placed the phone on the table in the hallway where the coffee machine stood.
For aesthetic purposes, the company had placed a pot of fresh greenery on every public table.
Mia watched Zhang Linen standing motionless in front of the table, not understanding what was happening. Just as she was wondering what Zhang Linen was brewing, suddenly and without any warning, Zhang Linen picked up the pot of Peace Lilies from the table and hurled it violently toward her.
Caught off guard, Mia stumbled and lurched away in a panic, tripping over herself and falling to the ground. The innocent pot of Peace Lilies crashed to the floor with a loud “thud,” shattering instantly into pieces.
But Zhang Linen was not satisfied yet. She immediately picked up the stool in front of the table and swung it toward Mia. Although her thin body nearly toppled over due to the momentum she couldn’t quite support, her eyes were incredibly fierce.
“Stop! I’m so sorry!” Mia was instantly scared back into her native language, pleading repeatedly, “I’ll give the earphone back! Miss Secretary, if this thing hits my head, I’ll die!”
Zhang Linen expressionlessly put the stool down and then strode forward. At this moment, many people in the office heard the commotion and poked their heads out. The department manager originally thought an employee had slipped and knocked over a plant and was about to scold them, but seeing it was Zhang Linen, he swallowed his words and silently moved to the side to join the ranks of the spectators.
“I’ve tolerated you twice. Don’t you ever look in a mirror?” As Zhang Linen spoke, she lifted her right foot and stepped onto Mia’s right hand, which was holding the earphone.
Mia turned pale with fright and hurriedly said, “Miss Secretary, you might not know that I am actually a sculptor. My hands are my most precious wealth. If they are injured, I might never be able to carve sculptures again in my life.”
Zhang Linen gave a seemingly helpless sigh and said coldly, “Since that’s the case, you should have looked after your hands better.”
Mia’s expression was terrified, and she shook like a sieve. Zhang Linen gradually applied pressure with her foot, as if she intended to crush this dishonest hand right then and there.
At the critical moment, Hua Jianjiu rushed out of the office. She was drenched in sweat and panting with anxiety, shouting from a distance, “Zhang… Zhang Linen, stop it quickly!”
Zhang Linen’s foot paused. The surrounding atmosphere fell into a dead silence. After a few heavy seconds, she exhaled a breath of turbid air with an impatient expression and then moved her foot off Mia’s hand.
Mia slumped against the wall in terror. Hua Jianjiu closed her eyes and let out a long sigh of relief, then began to disperse the crowd of onlookers: “What are you looking at? Get back to work.”
The onlookers, with expressions of lingering interest, returned to their workstations. Hua Jianjiu walked toward Zhang Linen with lingering fear and said, “What happened to you? You scared me to death.”
Zhang Linen remained silent with a dark face. Hua Jianjiu looked at Mia, who was sitting on the floor with an ashen face, thinking to herself: What on earth did this person do to make Zhang Linen resort to violence?
A cleaner arrived with a broom and a mop to clean up the mess on the floor. Only then did Mia regain her senses and stand up. She swayed slightly as she rose. Zhang Linen stood quietly to the side, silently gazing at her, staring until Mia felt a chill run down her spine.
The earphone had been crushed by Mia in her panic. Mia hesitantly walked toward Zhang Linen and said submissively, “I’m sorry, Miss Secretary. I will compensate you for the cost of the earphones…”
“No need,” Zhang Linen interrupted her with a cold and decisive tone.
Beside her, Hua Jianjiu felt so embarrassed she wanted to find a hole to crawl into. To ease the suffocating atmosphere, she skillfully spoke up to play the peacemaker: “Our Secretary Zhang has always been someone who doesn’t sweat the small stuff…”
Ordinarily, Zhang Linen would have been too lazy to care and would have let it slide, but this time it seemed Mia had touched a sacred nerve that could not be violated. She immediately interrupted Hua Jianjiu, saying, “A peacemaker who ignores the facts is only annoying. Shut up.”
Well, now Hua Jianjiu wasn’t just embarrassed; she would likely feel like she was sitting on pins and needles just by seeing Zhang Linen for the next few days.
Seeing Zhang Linen’s attitude of such loathing, Mia said, “Miss Secretary probably doesn’t want to see me again tonight. I think we should talk another day.”
To her surprise, although Zhang Linen’s attitude did not soften, she still insisted, “Tonight.”
Even Hua Jianjiu on the side couldn’t help but be curious: Just how important is this matter?

As soon as the photo was posted, Shen Jiuyue and Ji Zeyuan topped the trending searches. Online discussions about the intimate relationship between the two were in full swing, reaching a phenomenal level of popularity.
Ji Zeyuan frequently pressed the power button of her phone, checking if Zhang Linen had replied at a frequency of nearly three times every five minutes.
Shen Jiuyue noticed this but remained patient and silent until Ji Zeyuan checked her phone for the eighty-first time. Finally, she couldn’t help but ask, “President Ji, are you waiting for someone’s message?”
Ji Zeyuan looked up absentmindedly, neither answering nor denying.
Shen Jiuyue felt a quiet wave of disappointment and pursed her lips, but facing Ji Zeyuan, a smile remained on her face as she said, “If the other person hasn’t made a move, why don’t you take the initiative, President Ji?”
Ji Zeyuan remained silent. At that moment, the phone chimed with Zhang Linen’s unique notification sound. She picked up the phone almost within a second.
“Are things over there rather difficult?”
Ji Zeyuan replied after careful consideration: “It’s just a bit troublesome, not very difficult. Have you eaten?”
The message was marked as “Read” immediately after it was sent, but Zhang Linen did not reply right away.
Is she still with Mia?
Doubt took root and sprouted in Ji Zeyuan’s heart. She irritably slammed her phone face-down on the table.
Observing her expression, Shen Jiuyue pushed the drink menu toward Ji Zeyuan and asked cautiously, “If President Ji is in a bad mood, we could have a few drinks.”
Ji Zeyuan glanced at the menu and said, “I told you, I don’t drink.”
Shen Jiuyue was taken aback, then smiled and said, “I’m sorry, I forgot.”
The dinner table was silent, save for the slight clinking of chopsticks and plates. Ji Zeyuan remained distracted, checking her phone from time to time, barely touching a bite of the food.
Suddenly, the phone rang once. This time it was a normal notification sound. Ji Zeyuan opened it with little interest; it was Hua Jianjiu, with several messages in a row.
“Zhang Linen got into a fight with your college classmate!”
“Ah, wait, that’s not right. It was Zhang Linen unilaterally beating her up, though she didn’t quite succeed.”
“But those two are really interesting. After the fight, they actually left together quite peacefully.”
Ji Zeyuan’s heart sank. Without even bothering to reply to Hua Jianjiu, she immediately opened the chat interface with Zhang Linen.
“Are you with Mia?”
Zhang Linen looked at Ji Zeyuan’s message, then glanced at Mia in the front driver’s seat. After a moment’s thought, she took a photo of Mia and sent it to Ji Zeyuan.
“Yes, we are going to have dinner together.”
Ji Zeyuan’s heart sank further.
“Is your pheromone phobia okay?”
Zhang Linen replied very concisely: “It’s fine.”
In an instant, Ji Zeyuan felt as if her heart was about to crack open.
Due to the massive psychological drop, Ji Zeyuan’s pheromones flooded out in an instant. Pheromones released under extreme negative emotions possessed a strong aggressiveness and exclusivity.
Shen Jiuyue’s face turned pale as she felt suffocated. She couldn’t help but speak up to remind her: “President Ji, your pheromones…”
Ji Zeyuan looked up with empty eyes. It was only when she saw that Shen Jiuyue’s face had turned almost colorless that she suddenly snapped back to reality. She took an emergency suppressant from her pocket and swallowed it with some water with trembling hands.
the beast-like Alpha pheromones gradually calmed down. Fortunately, Shen Jiuyue was a top-tier Omega with a high capacity to regulate top-tier Alpha pheromones, so she wasn’t too severely affected.
“I want to drink,” Ji Zeyuan suddenly said after a long silence.
Shen Jiuyue was slightly stunned, then her lips curled into a subtle smile as she reached out to press the service bell.
…
Mia drove past a place of bright lights and wine—a place of sensual pleasures. She intended to stop the car, but just as she turned to ask Zhang Linen, Zhang Linen answered her first as if she had telepathy.
“No.”
Zhang Linen’s expression was cold, with an air that brooked no argument.
Mia pursed her lips in disappointment and turned the steering wheel to continue forward.
Finally, she stopped in front of a beautifully decorated coffee shop.
“Welcome… Miss?” The shop assistant smiled happily upon seeing Mia. Mia asked skillfully and flippantly, “Did you miss me lately?”
The assistant pursed her lips, looked at Zhang Linen, and huffed, “Miss brought someone and is still acting like this? Be careful not to make her angry.”
Mia’s expression stiffened slightly. She carefully observed Zhang Linen’s reaction. Seeing that she didn’t seem to be paying close attention to their conversation, Mia secretly breathed a sigh of relief and smiled at the assistant: “The same room as usual.”
The assistant nodded and handed a magnetic key to Mia. Mia took the key and led Zhang Linen upstairs.
As she went up, Mia introduced, “Miss Secretary, this shop was a homecoming gift from my mother. I have never brought anyone else here before.”
Zhang Linen looked lightly toward the second floor. The sights of the second floor gradually revealed themselves as she climbed the stairs step by step: a clean white wool carpet, a mahogany-colored small tea table, and behind a cozy little two-seater sofa was a double-casement window offering a view of the scenery outside. The curtains were half-open, and the ceiling lamp emitted spots of warm light.
“Did I ask you?” Zhang Linen replied disdainfully. Mia choked on her words and awkwardly pulled out a rocking chair next to the tea table, saying, “This chair is quite interesting.”
Zhang Linen silently noted the interior decorations of the shop, thinking about changing the decoration of her own home to this warm style after she returned.
Of course, “home” referred to Ji Zeyuan’s house where she was currently living.
Zhang Linen sat quietly on the sofa. Seeing this, Mia sat down in the rocking chair.
“So, Miss Secretary, what do you want to know?”
The light reflected in Zhang Linen’s clear black eyes, swaying like sparks of fire.
Looking at Mia, Zhang Linen replied without the slightest hesitation: “Everything. I want to know everything.”
