My Boss Transmigrated Into a Maid and I Became Gay - Chapter 37
The weather was clear. Everything in the world felt lovely.
A playlist of sweet songs from Lu Ying’s phone played through the car speakers, each melody so sugary it was impossible not to smile. Lu Ying sat in the passenger seat, watching the scenery fly by. Her mood felt as though it were perched on a cloud, light and airy, comfortable and serene.
While waiting for a green light, Jian Qin glanced at her, her lips pressed into a firm line. They had only just started dating, and their relationship wasn’t exactly what one would call intimate yet. She could sense that Lu Ying wasn’t entirely relaxed around her; they were both still keeping their guards up. It was only natural—Lu Ying had her secrets, and Jian Qin had hers.
Jian Qin took a deep breath, exhaling the knot of anxiety in her chest along with it.
Lu Ying, ever perceptive, noticed the shift in her mood. “What’s wrong?”
“Nothing, just thought about the meeting I have this morning,” Jian Qin smiled. “I’m not really looking forward to it.”
“So even you have days where you don’t want to work,” Lu Ying mused.
As she finished speaking, the light turned green. Jian Qin started the car and hummed in agreement. “I frequently don’t want to work, but I can’t not work.”
“If you didn’t have to work, what would you want to do?”
Jian Qin thought for a moment. “Travel, I suppose.”
Lu Ying’s eyes lit up, and she turned to look at her. “Really? Where would you go?”
Hearing the excitement in her voice, Jian Qin’s smile widened. “Anywhere. This country is vast and beautiful; every corner is worth seeing.”
“I want to go out, too. I originally planned to go to the beach after resigning…” Lu Ying realized her slip of the tongue mid-sentence. She quickly covered her mouth and leaned back, mumbling, “Wait, no, I meant I wanted to use my annual leave to go to the beach…”
Jian Qin didn’t jump on the slip. After a pause, she said, “That’s fine. Once you’ve been here for six months, you can take your leave. Let’s go together then.”
Since she didn’t press the issue, Lu Ying’s anxiety vanished, and her smile returned. “I also want to go to a lake—to see the mountains reflected in the water, just pure, endless scenery.”
“I know a place with a lake,” Jian Qin said. “It’s about a three-hour drive from the city center. I went there once with friends; it’s quite nice.”
Lu Ying had never heard of such a place nearby and urged her to go on. When she heard there was a spot called “Lovers’ Beach,” Lu Ying let out a long, teasing “Oh—” and asked, “So… have you been there with your ‘friends’?”
Jian Qin laughed. “No. they said single people weren’t allowed. They left me and two other single friends on the walkway to watch them take photos.”
How cruel! Discriminating against a single President Jian!
Lu Ying said indignantly, “Then we’re going to take so many photos this time just to get back at them.”
Jian Qin smiled and asked, “Shall we go there this weekend for a couple of days?”
“Yes!”
By the time they finished planning their weekend getaway, they had arrived at the company. Lu Ying slipped away first, and they headed up separately.
Office romances are so thrilling!
Lu Ying sat at her desk and pulled out her laptop to start working. She had arrived half an hour earlier than usual. When Sister Zhuan arrived and saw her, she was shocked. “You’re here so early?”
Well, obviously, I have a private chauffeur now!
Lu Ying felt like wagging a metaphorical tail in pride, but she kept her face calm. “Work makes me feel fulfilled and happy. I wanted to come in early to soak up the joy.”
“…” Yu Linchuan looked at the files on her own desk. “Do you want to soak up double the joy?”
“How?”
Yu Linchuan pushed her folder over. “Do mine too.”
“…” Lu Ying silently pushed the folder back. “No, I can’t deprive you of your right to be happy.”
Yu Linchuan rolled her eyes with a laugh, then noticed her outfit. “You look great today.”
Lu Ying felt a prickle of guilt and intentionally nitpicked. “Are you saying I usually look bad?”
“No, I mean you look exceptionally good today.”
Lu Ying flashed her teeth in a grin and turned back to work. She was going to work hard to keep up with her girlfriend!
Time flies when you’re busy. Two hours passed in the blink of an eye. As a first-time girlfriend, Lu Ying wasn’t sure what the “proper” etiquette was, but personally, after two hours apart, she found she missed President Jian.
Calculating that the meeting should be over, she sneakily pulled out her phone to send a message.
Sakura-chan: So, um… do you want to schedule an ‘accidental’ meeting in the breakroom? [Starry-eyes.jpg]
Jian Qin was reading a document. Two lines in, she received the message. She suppressed a smile and replied with a simple “Okay,” then grabbed her panda mug and stood up.
Lu Ying saw the reply and immediately bolted for the breakroom with her Shiba Inu mug. However, her expression crumpled the moment she walked in. Two colleagues were already there, drinking coffee and chatting.
Damn! Don’t they have work to do? Slacking off during work hours, how shameful!
When Jian Qin entered, she saw Lu Ying with a “slapped ass” face, unhappily filling her cup with hot water. Her gaze swept over the two chatting colleagues; they immediately stopped laughing, chirped a “Hello, President Jian,” and scurried out one after the other.
The breakroom was soon empty. Jian Qin stood behind Lu Ying and whispered, “They’re gone.”
Lu Ying suppressed a giggle and looked back at her. “I didn’t realize you had a ‘room clearing’ function.”
She finished filling her cup and made space for her boss. Jian Qin set her mug down, her tone teasing. “In the past, when you saw me, you’d do the exact same thing—say hello and then run away in terror.”
Sensing a dangerous topic, Lu Ying immediately defended herself. “I’m not like them. I ran away because I was shy.”
Jian Qin laughed. “Alright, I believe you.”
As Lu Ying pulled her head back like a turtle, Jian Qin added, “It’s a good thing I didn’t agree to have cameras installed in the breakroom.”
“That was a thing?”
Jian Qin nodded. “When they were installing cameras across the floor, I felt the breakroom should be a place for employees to relax, so I didn’t let them put any in here.”
“Good job!” Lu Ying gave her a thumbs-up of approval.
The two of them pretended to get water while effectively dating on company time. They concluded their secret office rendezvous and headed back to work only when someone else entered.
The operation was a success. Lu Ying sent a review to the boss.
Sakura-chan: The meeting went perfectly. Five-star rating!
Sister: Thank you for the praise, Boss. I will keep up the good work.
Jian Qin’s casual playfulness made Lu Ying want to burst out laughing. she quickly lowered her head and coughed twice to suppress the urge.
In the afternoon, they managed another meeting in the breakroom. Lu Ying brought her some handmade cookies she’d bought at lunch. “These are great, but don’t eat too many, or you won’t want dinner.”
It had been a long time since Jian Qin had experienced such a simple, direct gesture of affection, and coming from Lu Ying, she found it incredibly endearing. She loved the feeling of being in someone’s thoughts.
Setting aside her worries for the day, Jian Qin looked at the cookies in her pocket and said intentionally, “Did you save any for yourself? You’ll probably have to work overtime tonight; don’t go hungry.”
“…” Lu Ying’s eyes went wide.
I give you cookies, and you give me a death sentence?!
She huffed in annoyance, but not daring to argue with her superior, she trudged out of the breakroom with her water. Jian Qin followed her out, amused, and sent her a message once she was back in her office.
Sister: My mistake. Want to come over to my place to do the overtime?
Lu Ying was torn. She really wanted more time with Jian Qin… but she was afraid that doing overtime at her girlfriend’s house would give her a permanent psychological complex about the apartment.
Sakura-chan: No, no, no. I’ll just stay in the office…
Sister: Okay, then I’ll stay with you and take you to the subway station.
She agreed so easily that Lu Ying felt like crying—Why didn’t she push a little harder! If she’d asked one more time, I might have said yes!
A few seconds later, two files and a message appeared on Lu Ying’s computer. The text was cold and professional:
“1. Summarize the feedback from the last survey and send a reminder to the whole team. 2. You’re in charge of the new business training starting the day after tomorrow. See the schedule for details and prepare in advance.”
Lu Ying’s vision went dark. Why was this happening? She just wanted to be a “salted fish” that did the bare minimum! Why was her workload increasing?
Now, it wasn’t just tonight; she’d likely be working overtime until next week.
The other colleagues left, but Lu Ying was still grinding away at the reminder. Once the email was finally out, she had to print the training schedule and prepare for the modules. At 6:00 PM, a cookie suddenly appeared on her desk.
Lu Ying looked up. Probably because of the cameras, Jian Qin didn’t say much, just told her to eat something. Once she left, Lu Ying swallowed the cookie in one vicious bite.
Logically, she knew Jian Qin wanted her to grow quickly, but emotionally, she just didn’t want to work overtime!
At 7:00 PM, she finally shut down her computer, her brain feeling like mush. Jian Qin, who had left her office door open, noticed her move and stood up to pack her things as well.
They went to the garage together. Once in the car, Jian Qin rubbed her head. “Good job today.”
In the past, Lu Ying would have just cursed her boss silently after a month of overtime. Now, being comforted by that same boss, she just felt aggrieved. “Tired. Hungry. Sleepy.”
Hearing the word “sleepy,” Jian Qin paused. “What do you want for dinner? I’ll buy you delivery.”
“No, it’s okay. You’re more tired than I am,” Lu Ying regained her composure and squeezed the hand on her head. “You worked hard too. Go home and rest well.”
Jian Qin agreed and dropped her off at the subway.

The two waved goodbye, and Lu Ying let out a long sigh as she sat on the train. In just two days, her relationship with Jian Qin had undergone a total transformation.
She messaged Doggy-Egg about the fact that she’d transmigrated again last night.
Rainbow Doggy-Egg: Do you know which chapter you’re repeating?
Sakura-chan: Probably the one where I use Alpine snowmelt to rinse my mouth.
Rainbow Doggy-Egg: …Only you could come up with that.
Sakura-chan: I was trying to emphasize the purity and nobility of the mouthwash! QAQ
Rainbow Doggy-Egg: So… are you going to have to live through the whole plot again?
Sakura-chan: I don’t know, but I hate it.
Rainbow Doggy-Egg: Why?
Sakura-chan: I didn’t get to eat breakfast!
Rainbow Doggy-Egg: …………

Lu Ying got home around the same time Jian Qin did. The boss messaged her to ask what she was having for dinner. Lu Ying took a photo of the pineapple bun she was munching on.
Sakura-chan: Eating a pineapple bun~
Sister: That’s not healthy. Give me your address; I’ll order you something.
Sakura-chan: It’s 8:00 PM already; delivery won’t get here until 9:00. I won’t eat anymore; I’ll get fat! QAQ
Jian Qin frowned, feeling a bit worried. She didn’t want Lu Ying to go to bed hungry, but she didn’t want to be overbearing either. She’d have to find a way to “lure” her back to her place soon.
Before bed, they exchanged goodnights. Lu Ying realized for the first time that saying goodnight to someone you love makes you smile at your phone.
Will I transmigrate tonight?
Lu Ying hugged her panda plush and drifted off.
Morning came, and her alarm went off. She fumbled for her phone to turn it off. The little panda had somehow ended up right next to her face, its black eye-circles startling her when she opened her eyes.
She had slept through the night. She’d dreamed, but couldn’t remember what happened. In other words, she hadn’t transmigrated. Lu Ying felt both relieved and a little disappointed.
Why did she transmigrate the night before last but not last night? She couldn’t figure it out. She checked her phone and saw a “Good morning” from Jian Qin.
She immediately shoved the mystery of the transmigration to the back of her mind and happily replied to her “Sister.”
Forget the transmigration. Isn’t a gentle, beautiful girlfriend in the real world enough!
