My Boss Transmigrated Into a Maid and I Became Gay - Chapter 24
The Eldest Young Master swallowed the candy. It was a little bitter and a little sour.
It was anything but sweet.
The amusement park was divided into several massive zones. They were currently in the thrill ride section, where Lu Ying had seen the drop tower and the roller coaster earlier. Because she was visiting, the park was closed to all other guests; the vast grounds were empty except for the three of them and the staff.
When they reached an area designed for walking, the three got out of the car. Lu Ying tilted her head back, staring at the nearby drop tower. “A drop tower this high… do people actually dare to ride that?”
The maid asked suddenly, “Does the Miss like thrilling attractions?”
Lu Ying imagined herself falling from such a height and shivered, shaking her head vigorously. “I don’t. I’m a coward… but I like standing underneath them and listening to the other guests scream.”
Hearing this, the Eldest Young Master immediately turned away and began making sneaky, frantic arrangements with the staff.
In front of the roller coaster stood a giant information board. Lu Ying’s curiosity was piqued, and she walked over to read it, letting out a gasp of wonder.
The coaster used a combination of AR and 5D technology to create an immersive experience. The ride was divided into three themes: the first was a mountain motorcycle trek, though the vertical drops were far more insane than any real mountain. The second was an underwater world—plunging off a cliff into the ocean, surrounded by terrifying, colossal sea monsters. The third was a climb into the heavens, soaring through the clouds with angels, followed by a final sharp turn where the imagery would vanish, returning the riders to reality.
Lu Ying summarized it: basically, frighten the guest half to death, send them straight to heaven, and then shatter the dream to drop them back to earth.
It sounded fascinating. If she weren’t such a scaredy-cat, she might have actually wanted to try it…
Just as she finished studying the coaster, a noise erupted behind her. Lu Ying turned around to see a dozen of the people who had just been throwing candy from the floats sitting in the drop tower seats. Someone was bucking them in.
She blinked and hurried over, holding her skirt. “What are you doing?”
The staff looked delighted to be addressed by her. “The Young Mistress likes to hear screaming! We are willing to perform for the Young Mistress!”
Lu Ying frowned and blocked the staff member’s hand from fastening a seatbelt. “No. No, thank you. I’m not watching.”
Even though they were just “paper people” to her, she couldn’t take pleasure in their terror. Regular tourists sought out the thrill voluntarily, but these people were doing it as a job for her. She put a stop to the absurd performance and shot an accusing look at Mr. Grumpy.
The Eldest Brother hadn’t expected his good intentions to upset his sister; the furrow between his brows deepened further.
As the performers were dismissed, Jian Qin observed silently. Her gaze eventually settled on the Young Mistress. She felt a powerful sense of cognitive dissonance.
The “Miss” before her played “down-to-earth” games like Tic-tac-toe and Gomoku, looked at the world from the perspective of ordinary people, and was alternately bold and bashful… she was emotionally rich, no different from the flesh-and-blood Lu Ying herself.
They are both so real.
As the Young Mistress became more and more like the real Lu Ying, Jian Qin felt that unspeakable impulse rise again—the urge to act according to her own desires just once in this illusory world. She felt ashamed of her selfish thoughts, yet she didn’t know how to control them.
Suddenly, her eyes fell on the roller coaster. Rather than succumb to a base impulse, Jian Qin would rather let fear and adrenaline occupy her mind.
Lu Ying, who was currently trying to figure out how to soothe her brother, was surprised when the maid suddenly said she wanted to ride the roller coaster.
Lu Ying assumed she was also trying to “perform” a scream. “I really don’t want to hear you scream…”
“It’s not for you, Miss. I truly want to try it.”
Her gaze was gentle but firm. Lu Ying looked at the terrifying coaster, then back at her. “Are you sure you’re okay with this?”
“I am,” Jian Qin said, a hint of mischief in her smile. “Will the Miss join me? I’ll hold your hand very tight.”
Lu Ying: “…”
Even if you held me in your arms, the answer is no!
She refused frantically: “Not a chance!”
“Alright, then…”
Before Jian Qin could finish, the Eldest Brother spoke up. “I’ll try it too.”
Since his sister liked to hear screaming but didn’t want to trouble others, he, her brother, would do it for her!
The two of them headed for the coaster, leaving Lu Ying below to cheer them on. The ride was so high it required an elevator to reach the loading platform. Standing in the glass elevator, Jian Qin placed her fingers against the pane, watching the Young Mistress wave at her from below.
The Eldest Brother stood beside her, trying to look calm, though his voice was trembling. “L-look, our sister is w-waving… at me…”
Jian Qin didn’t quite understand why this NPC was riding with her, but she could feel the gentleness beneath his melancholy mask. After a moment, she offered comfort: “Yes, Young Master. Seeing how brave you are, the Miss will surely admire you even more.”
Hearing this, the trembling brother instantly straightened his back and was the first to charge into a seat. The staff fastened their multi-point harnesses and put on their AR glasses. The coaster slowly began to move—
Three seconds later, Lu Ying faintly heard a voice drifting from the sky: “HELP ME! LET ME DOWN! AHHHH! I DON’T WANT TO BE HERE! LET ME OFF! AHHHHHHH! SISTER! BROTHER LOVES YOU! AHHHHHHH!”
Lu Ying: “…”
Mr. Grumpy certainly lives up to his ‘Sis-con’ setting!
Even though he was a “paper person,” she was genuinely touched for a moment. Lu Ying decided to reward his effort. She grabbed a megaphone from a staff member and shouted up, “Go, Brother! Don’t be afraid!”
In the Eldest Brother’s ears, there was only the roar of the wind. On the AR mountain cliffs, the motorcycle was plunging downward at a manic speed. He was being tossed so hard he didn’t even have the strength to scream anymore, but then he faintly heard his sister calling him. He was instantly revitalized.
Fine! I have enough strength to scream for her once more!
On the other side, Jian Qin remained silent. Her adrenaline was spiking, her heart racing. Yet, she realized that the thumping in her chest wasn’t nearly as intense as the pounding she’d felt the first time she saw Lu Ying.
It had been a sweltering summer. She had reached her breaking point, wandering aimlessly through the streets. One thing after another had crushed her. Just walking down the street, she felt like she could hear strangers mocking her. She felt abandoned by the world.
At her moment of greatest despair, she had seen Lu Ying in a milk tea shop, smiling like a radiant flower. Jian Qin had stood in the scorching sun, staring through the glass at the girl’s bright smile. Noticing her gaze, the girl had run out of the shop and jogged over to her.
“Sister, are you feeling okay? Do you want to come inside and sit for a bit?”
Jian Qin had wanted to leave, but her body swayed.
“Sister, be careful!” Lu Ying had supported her, her sweet smile like a cool, refreshing strawberry in the summer heat. “If you stay out here, you’ll get heatstroke. Come sit. We have air conditioning, and I’ll buy you a lemonade.”
She had indeed been standing for too long. She pushed away the girl’s hand and said, “Alright.”
She entered the shop. The cool air didn’t calm her heart; she sat in the corner, her eyes fixed on that busy silhouette. The girl worked with an enchanting smile, chatting with other staff while nimbly preparing a cup of iced lemonade. She brought it over.
“Sister, just rest here. It’s not busy this afternoon. If you don’t have anywhere else to go, you can stay as long as you like.”
She crinkled her eyes into a beautiful smile, a pure and lovely expression that shattered Jian Qin’s final defenses. In that instant, she had—irrationally, stubbornly, and completely—invaded Jian Qin’s world.
Her heart had beaten so hard she could practically hear the thudding in her own ears. Holding the lemonade, Jian Qin had slowly adjusted her heavy, black-framed glasses and whispered, “Thank you.”
Thank you for bringing the first ray of light into my darkness.
…
The roller coaster’s speed increased. Jian Qin could barely breathe. In the AR ocean, a sea monster with the power to crush mountains opened its abyss-like maw, swallowing them into deep darkness.
The screaming beside her stopped completely. Jian Qin thought the Eldest Brother had finally overcome his fear, but as the coaster slowed and the AR faded to reality, she saw he had fainted from terror.
The ride came to a halt. Her heart was still pounding. She tried to get out on her own, but her head was spinning so violently that the moment she stood up, she toppled to the side…
Someone caught her. Dazed, she whispered, “Thank you.”
The track was long and complex. From the ground, Lu Ying couldn’t see or hear anything, so she’d had a car take her to the exit. Just as she got out, she saw the maid staggering and rushed over.
The maid leaned against her, whispering weakly, “Thank you.”
Lu Ying patted her comfortingly, but a second later, her body stiffened.
Wait.
Why did she say “Thank you“…
Instead of the formal “Thank the Miss“ a maid should use?
