Mr. Lu Was Devastated After I Left - Chapter 3
Lu Beiye paused for a moment, then gave a casual, nonchalant smile. He reached out and pinched Xu Zhuoyang’s cheek. “Why have you been acting so paranoid lately? Since you finally have a few days off, you should stay home and get some rest.”
He pulled his tie from Xu Zhuoyang’s grip, straightened his back, and ruffled Xu Zhuoyang’s soft, dark hair. “I am off to work. Wait for me to come home tonight.” After saying this, he picked up the gold rimmed glasses sitting nearby and strode out the door without looking back.
Although his tone had been gentle, as if he were coaxing a child, Xu Zhuoyang had lived with him long enough to know his temper. He was clearly already angry.
After the door slammed shut, Xu Zhuoyang collapsed onto the floor, his strength drained. He looked at a framed photograph on the side table. He reached out and picked it up, studying it carefully. The tears he had been holding back finally overflowed, streaming down his face uncontrollably.
In the photo, both of them were still youthful. They were wearing matching couple sweaters in different colors. In the picture, Lu Beiye was affectionately and proactively wrapping an arm around his shoulder. The white hoodie made him look incredibly gentle, and the glasses on his nose gave him a scholarly, refined look, with the messy bangs on his forehead adding a touch of youthful charm.
In contrast, what about now? Lu Beiye spent his days exuding an overbearing, stuffy aura, wearing gloomy black suits and those refined scoundrel glasses. His hair was styled with meticulous precision, looking composed and pretentious. Compared to the youthful teenager in the photo from two years ago, he now looked as old and cynical as a retiree waiting for his pension.
Xu Zhuoyang choked on a sob as he cursed, “You old dog, how did you turn into this?”
Lu Beiye sneezed unexpectedly.
Assistant Yan, who was by his side, immediately asked with concern, “Boss, are you cold?” He reached for the remote to adjust the air conditioning.
Lu Beiye waved a hand. “Did Mr. Mu accept the apartment you found for him?”
“No. Mr. Mu said he still has some money of his own and does not need our help.”
“Then is he willing to cooperate with Fengying Entertainment?”
Assistant Yan shook his head. “He is not. Mr. Mu said he has already signed a five year contract with Yueteng Entertainment. I told Mr. Mu how generous the benefits at Fengying Entertainment are and that we were willing to cover the breach of contract fees for Yueteng Entertainment, but Mr. Mu still has no intention of switching.”
Lu Beiye irritably took off his glasses and rubbed his temples. “He is still as stubborn as he used to be. Not even ten oxen could pull him back.”
“However.”
Lu Beiye glanced at him impatiently. “However, what?”
“However, Mr. Mu seems to have some interest in the role of the second male lead in the suspense drama Shadow, which our company is investing in. He wants to audition for it.”
Lu Beiye frowned. “The second male lead? Who is the first male lead? Has it been decided?”
“It is all but finalized.” Assistant Yan’s expression grew serious. “Xu Zhuoyang’s agent intends for him to take the lead role. Although there is an audition, there is no reason for Director Li to replace an actor of Xu Zhuoyang’s caliber.”
Assistant Yan hesitated, leaving something unsaid. He dared not mention that the suspense drama Shadow was about a pair of twins playing a game of wits. The resemblance between Mr. Mu and Xu Zhuoyang was nearly identical. Setting everything else aside, Director Li would almost certainly keep both of them for that reason alone.
Others might not know about the clandestine, underground relationship between Lu Beiye and Xu Zhuoyang, but as his personal assistant, how could he possibly be unaware?
On the other side of the city, a man leaned against a sofa, script in hand. His charming, peach blossom eyes were fixed on the pages with intense focus. Upon reading one specific line of dialogue, he suddenly laughed, revealing sharp canine teeth. He read the line aloud softly, “Brother, we are going to meet very soon.”
