Mr. Lu Was Devastated After I Left - Chapter 25
Before Xu Zhuoyang could answer, the doorbell suddenly rang.
Xiang Liang frowned slightly. “Could that be Lu Beiye?”
He could not bring himself to like Lu Beiye at all. He simply could not fathom why someone as proud and lofty as Xu Zhuoyang would be willing to be someone’s lover so humbly.
What was the point? Fame? Xu Zhuoyang did not need to climb any higher; his current status was more than sufficient. There were very few artists of his age in the country who possessed both his popularity, looks, and acting prowess. Money? Did Xu Zhuoyang even lack money?
Xu Zhuoyang set down his bowl and chopsticks. “I will go open the door.” He turned to head to the entrance, a look of mild surprise crossing his face when he saw who was outside.
“Si Yan?”
Si Yan stood there in the cold, his face flushed red from the freezing temperature. He was carrying several large bags, clearly filled with things he had bought for Xu Zhuoyang.
Si Yan handed over the breakfast and medical supplies he had brought. “Senior, is your wound still hurting?”
His tone was brimming with concern, and his crystal clear eyes were filled with a sincerity that seemed devoid of any impurities.
“It does not hurt anymore.” Xu Zhuoyang stepped aside to invite him in, but Si Yan shook his head repeatedly.
“I have to go to the set soon, so I will not come in.” He glanced at the bags Xu Zhuoyang was holding and bashfully touched the tip of his nose. “I was not sure what you liked, so I just bought a little bit of everything. I hope it is to your taste.”
As the two conversed, Xiang Liang hovered at the kitchen doorway, peeking out with only one eye, a knowing, indulgent smile playing on his lips.
Such a well behaved appearance. Such sincere, soulful eyes. Such a thoughtful attitude.
This was a textbook little puppy type. He was so much better than that Lu Beiye.
Si Yan bid Xu Zhuoyang a hasty farewell. When Xu Zhuoyang returned to the dining room carrying the pile of supplies, he found someone looking entirely smitten.
Xiang Liang watched Xu Zhuoyang moving around and said, “Zhuoyang, go for it. Make him yours.”
Xu Zhuoyang remained silent.
“He is so much better than that Lu Beiye. Look at how attentive he is.”
Xu Zhuoyang paused in his movements. “Stop talking nonsense. He is several years younger than me.”
Besides, unprovoked concern always made him feel uneasy. After all, they had only just met yesterday.
Xiang Liang stayed until the afternoon. After he left, Xu Zhuoyang went to bed. It was not until the middle of the night that the sound of the living room door opening jolted him awake. A wave of unease washed over him. Before he could reach for the knife he had hidden, the door to the bedroom was pushed open, and the sudden appearance of a tall figure nearly made him scream.
Lu Beiye turned on the light. Seeing the look of alarm on Xu Zhuoyang’s face, he asked, “Are you afraid?”
Xu Zhuoyang relaxed once he recognized the man. He shook his head. “No.”
That was a lie. When he was on set with people around, he felt nothing, but back home alone in bed, the surrounding silence was terrifying, leading his mind to wander into dark places. For the past two days, he had even had nightmares about being attacked. The slightest sound in the hallway or the room made his entire body go rigid.
He kept a knife by his bedside, terrified that the scenes from his nightmares would come true.
Lu Beiye could easily tell he was lying, but he did not call him out. He sat down on the edge of the bed and asked, “You seem to be getting along quite well with someone named Si Yan.”
After returning home yesterday, Lu Beiye had looked at the photo repeatedly. Even though the lighting was dim, he could vaguely see the young man holding Xu Zhuoyang in his arms.
They had been pressed tightly together. Furthermore, before he had returned yesterday, that man called Si Yan had stayed at their apartment for quite a while, and it seemed he had come again today.
