Mr. Lu Was Devastated After I Left - Chapter 24
The results from the police station were released, and Li Peixin was quickly tracked down. However, his statements were insufficient for the police to pursue Mu Yuan.
Because Xu Zhuoyang did not wish to pursue the matter further, and Li Peixin used his connections to avoid punishment, the entire affair effectively vanished, much like a stone dropped into the ocean. The production crew and Xu Zhuoyang posted statements on Weibo to clarify the situation, and the matter was hastily brushed aside.
Mu Yuan, gripping his phone, could hardly believe his eyes.
Dammit. It is one thing that Xu Zhuoyang did not die, but why is Li Peixin also fine? He could not believe the police had not uncovered Li Peixin’s involvement. Xu Zhuoyang should have been pushing with all his might to send Li Peixin to prison. How could he just let it end so casually?
Suddenly, a call from an unknown number came through. Mu Yuan’s heart trembled as he cautiously pressed accept. “Hello.”
There was a moment of silence on the other end, followed by a cold, mocking laugh that made Mu Yuan’s skin crawl.
“Mu Yuan, are you surprised by this outcome?” Li Peixin’s voice sounded chillingly cold.
Mu Yuan feigned calm. “Surprised? Why would I be surprised?”
Li Peixin knew Mu Yuan was playing the stubborn fool, refusing to show even a single crack in his facade. Glancing at the script in his hand, Li Peixin spoke in a strange, taunting tone. “That is fine, Mr. Mu. The director only allowed Xu Zhuoyang a few days of rest; the other actors are continuing as scheduled. I believe we have some scenes together today, do we not?”
Mu Yuan’s entire body went rigid. “You know who is behind me. Do you really believe I cannot have you kicked out of the entertainment industry forever?”
“We shall see.” Li Peixin hung up the phone.
Mu Yuan’s knuckles turned white as he gripped his phone with excessive force.
Because of Xu Zhuoyang, he had gained yet another enemy. If Xu Zhuoyang had simply gone along with the situation and sent that man to prison, Mu Yuan would not be under threat from anyone.
Mu Yuan hated Xu Zhuoyang with a burning intensity, while Xu Zhuoyang remained completely oblivious. He lay leisurely on the sofa, waiting for Xiang Liang to finish breakfast.
Xiang Liang was currently in the kitchen, wrestling with a crucian carp. The fish lashed its tail, splashing water all over him. Xiang Liang’s face turned a shade of livid green. “I will kill you.”
He had woken up, groggy, and checked his phone to see the Weibo notification about Xu Zhuoyang’s injury. Without even washing his face, he had rushed to Xu Zhuoyang’s apartment.
Xu Zhuoyang recounted the entire incident to Xiang Liang without holding anything back. Xiang Liang listened with his heart in his throat; he had thought hitmen and attempted murder were things that only happened in TV dramas. He never imagined they would occur in his own life, and all because of a fight over a man. Could anything be more ridiculous than that?
Xiang Liang scrambled to finish breakfast and brought it to the table. Xu Zhuoyang climbed off the sofa and walked over.
“So, you have gone from being Lu Beiye’s boyfriend to his lover?”
“He even gave me a bank card, telling me he wanted to be my benefactor and help me climb to the top,” Xu Zhuoyang said with a sneer.
Xiang Liang remembered Mu Yuan’s tardy arrival at the audition and felt an inexplicable sense of dislike. He pursed his lips and asked in a low voice, “Zhuoyang, in your eyes, what kind of person is Lu Beiye?”
“He is just an old dog. He is not a human at all.”
Xiang Liang gave his forehead a rough smack. “I am asking you a serious question.”
Xu Zhuoyang rubbed his forehead in pain. Xiang Liang then watched as Xu Zhuoyang fell into deep thought. He did not know what Xu Zhuoyang was remembering, but the man’s face turned a rare, faint shade of red.
This kid is thinking about something indecent.
