Mr. Lu Was Devastated After I Left - Chapter 20
His grudge against Xu Zhuoyang originated from a conflict during a drama production. He had been the pre-selected lead for a teen drama, but for some unknown reason, the director went mad, willing to reject his benefactor’s investment just to replace him with Xu Zhuoyang as the lead. That drama ended up becoming a massive hit.
Because of this, he harbored deep resentment toward Xu Zhuoyang. Later, when they appeared on a variety show together, Xu Zhuoyang consistently overshadowed him, leaving him looking like nothing more than background decoration.
However, none of these were serious matters. They had no significant impact on his career, and he certainly would not go so far as to kill Xu Zhuoyang over such trivial nonsense.
“Do you have his contact information?”
Li Peixin nodded and hurriedly took out his phone to call Mu Yuan. Hearing the cold, mechanical sound of the ringing, his fingers trembled.
Lu Beiye was out at a business dinner and had not returned yet. Mu Yuan was at home, boredly scrolling through Weibo. When the call came through and he saw the caller ID, he ignored it, but the caller was relentless. Irritated, he finally pressed accept. Before he could speak, a furious roar came from the other end. “Mu Yuan! What is the meaning of this? Are you trying to get me killed?”
Mu Yuan feigned surprise. “Oh my, Senior, what are you talking about?”
“You wanted to use my hands to harm Xu Zhuoyang, did you not? I said I wanted to find someone to teach Xu Zhuoyang a lesson, and you gave me the number of that murderer, telling me he was a professional thug who would do anything for money and knew how to handle himself. You told me to hire him. Is that not exactly what you said?”
Brother Yu listened intently from the side.
If Mu Yuan admitted it on the phone, they could hand the recording over to the police, embellish the details to pin the blame entirely on Mu Yuan, and minimize the damage to Li Peixin.
But who could have predicted that Mu Yuan would refuse to admit a single thing? “Do not go throwing your dirty water on me. What does this have to do with me? I never said anything of the sort. If you had not told me, I would not even know you were the one who hired him.”
Li Peixin cursed in a rage, “Pah! You despicable creature, how can you be so shameless?”
That day, the two had been chatting. Somehow, Mu Yuan had learned that Li Peixin was on bad terms with Xu Zhuoyang and began fanning the flames. Unfortunately, Li Peixin had fallen right into the trap.
Mu Yuan gave him the number, and Li Peixin had called the man and transferred twenty thousand yuan. The transfer records and call logs were all there; it would be incredibly easy for the police to find him.
Now, Mu Yuan was washing his hands of the entire affair, and Li Peixin could not find a single shred of evidence against him.
He wanted to curse him out more, but Mu Yuan hung up, and when he tried to call back, he found he had been blocked.
Li Peixin was nearly desperate. “Brother Yu.”
Brother Yu looked at him for a long time before saying in a low voice, “Figure out how you are going to solve this yourself. I am leaving.”
The police were already involved; this was not something he could handle alone. He had to go back and report everything to the senior management of the company.
After Brother Yu left, the apartment fell into a heavy silence. Li Peixin crouched on the floor, staring blankly at the edge of the table for a long time. Finally, he picked up his phone, found Xu Zhuoyang’s number, and after hesitating for a long time, pressed call.
Even if he could not take Mu Yuan down, he certainly was not going to let him off the hook easily.
The phone rang for a long time before it was picked up. Xu Zhuoyang’s impatient voice came from the other end. “Hello.”
“This is Li Peixin. I have something I need to apologize to you about.”
