Mr. Lu Was Devastated After I Left - Chapter 18
Shan Wu narrowed his eyes. Yuan Chilian’s theory was not impossible. He walked toward the window to see where the killer might have been standing, but just as he reached the ledge, a ghastly, featureless white face suddenly appeared before him. The figure gripped the window frame, seemingly having waited for a long time, and lunged with a kitchen knife glistening with a cold, lethal light. Shan Wu dodged instinctively, narrowly escaping a deep wound.
The intruder vaulted into the room and pursued Shan Wu frantically with the blade. Shan Wu finally saw clearly that the person was not faceless but was wearing a blank, paper like mask. Neither of them was carrying a gun. Shan Wu shoved Yuan Chilian aside and lunged to disarm the attacker.
They wrestled, but the blade in the man’s hand forced Shan Wu to be cautious. Caught off guard, he was backed into a corner. The attacker raised the kitchen knife toward Shan Wu’s face. Shan Wu raised his arm to block, and a sharp, searing pain shot through him. Hot blood gushed from the wound and ran down his arm.
The kitchen knife actually cut him. That was not a prop; it was a real blade.
The man continued to swing the knife wildly. Si Yan, who was standing to the side, clearly realized something was wrong. Ignoring the script, he charged forward, kicked the attacker away, and shielded the injured Xu Zhuoyang behind him. “Stay back. That knife is dangerous.”
The attacker acted as if he had not heard a word, swinging the knife with bloodshot eyes. Si Yan gritted his teeth and delivered a ferocious kick to the man’s wrist. The knife slipped from his grip, hitting the floor with a dull thud. As the attacker lunged to retrieve it, Si Yan kicked the weapon far away. Xu Zhuoyang seized the opportunity, tackled the man, and pinned him to the ground, immobilizing him.
The director finally realized something was wrong and shouted “Cut” in a rage. “What are you people doing?”
Was that in the script?
Si Yan shouted back, clearly incensed, “Director, that was a real kitchen knife. It was not a prop at all. This man was trying to kill Zhuoyang.”
“A real knife?” The crew gasped in horror.
The masked man on the floor struggled with a vicious, desperate strength; he looked nothing like a temporary extra hired for the shoot. Xu Zhuoyang had initially thought the man was just a dedicated actor, but he now realized with a chill that the man was genuinely trying to take his life.
Li Sheng summoned the courage to step forward and rip the mask off the attacker’s face. The stranger behind the mask startled him. With deep set, triangular eyes and an expression filled with murderous intent, the man was clearly a hardened criminal, certainly not the extra he had hired.
Xu Zhuoyang’s arm was still bleeding; the wound was clearly deep. If Si Yan had not intervened, and Xu Zhuoyang had been seriously harmed on set, it would have been a disaster. Setting aside the wrath of Feng Ying Entertainment, even Xu Zhuoyang’s fans alone would have torn him to pieces.
A stranger infiltrating the set with a real knife to commit violence was a major incident. Li Sheng called the police immediately. The police arrived shortly, took the man into custody, and Si Yan accompanied Xu Zhuoyang to the hospital for stitches before taking him to the station to give a statement.
After being tossed around for half the night, they learned that the attacker was a fugitive currently on the run. Xu Zhuoyang was shaken to his core; he could not help but wonder if Si Yan had not been there, would he be lying in a morgue right now?
The police informed him that the man had been paid to do this. The attacker refused to reveal who had hired him, and the police were still investigating.
Xu Zhuoyang shivered. In his position, he had offended many people. While there were several people in the cast who held grudges against him, surely none of them would go as far as to hire a hitman.
Si Yan noticed his pale face and asked worriedly, “Senior, are you alright?”
Xu Zhuoyang shook his head weakly, looking at the boy beside him with a sense of gratitude. “I am fine. Thank you, Si Yan. If you had not stepped in today, I might have been in serious trouble.”
Si Yan had stayed by his side the entire time, from the hospital to the police station, and now insisting on walking him to his door. He had not left his side once. He was a genuinely kind hearted kid.
Si Yan scratched his head shyly. “It was just a small favor. The doctor said you should not put strain on your arm for a few days, and keep it dry. Since it is your right hand, why do I not stay and look after you?”
Xu Zhuoyang waved him off. “It is okay, I can manage.”
Si Yan looked disappointed. “It is getting late. Get some rest. If you need anything in the middle of the night, make sure to call me.”
Xu Zhuoyang nodded. Si Yan pulled out his phone, looked at him hesitantly, and after stuttering for a long time, finally asked to take a photo with him. Once Xu Zhuoyang agreed, Si Yan’s cheeks flushed with excitement. He fumbled with his phone to snap a few pictures, and after showering him with concerned instructions, he finally waved goodbye.
The moment the security door closed, Si Yan stood in the hallway staring at the photo of Xu Zhuoyang’s pale, weakened face on his phone. He let out a soft laugh, his fingers gently tracing the man’s cheek on the screen, his gaze turning sinister and cold.
“Mu Yuan, you had better not lay your filthy claws on my senior.”
