- Chapter 8 - The Competition Piece
Luo Shiyu was a woman of swift action.
By the very next day, she had already returned to the dormitory building, carrying a brand-new guitar on her back.
Her appearance once again drew the attention of all the boys in the male dormitory.
However, when they saw Chen An walking side by side with the campus belle, holding a white cane, every single one of them gritted their teeth in frustration.
Damn it, this blind guy—they really wanted to punch him twice.
“I feel a chill running down my back for some reason.”
Chen An, unable to see, found it strange as he walked arm in arm with Luo Shiyu.
Luo Shiyu chuckled softly and said, “Because I’m the campus belle. Everyone must be jealous of you for walking with me.”
“Really? I don’t believe it.” Chen An shook his head.
“Must be because I’m wearing too little. Seems like the weather’s getting colder.”
Luo Shiyu looked up at the sky. The August sun was absolutely relentless.
At the very least, she had slathered herself in sunscreen before stepping out.
“What a dense guy.” Luo Shiyu puffed her cheeks, wanting to tease Chen An in mock anger, but remembering he couldn’t see her expression, she pouted in defeat.
Unbeknownst to them, a shadowy figure was stealthily following behind.
Su Ling watched Chen An with a dangerous glint in her eyes.
She never would have imagined that her dear Shiyu had actually been charmed by a blind guy.
At first, when she saw the posts on the forum, she refused to believe it.
But now, after tailing them, the sight before her left no room for doubt.
“Let’s see just how this blind guy managed to trick my dear Shiyu.”
Su Ling cautiously trailed behind the pair until they arrived at a wetland area on campus.
Leaning against a willow tree, Chen An and Luo Shiyu sat cross-legged on the grass.
Meanwhile, Su Ling hid nearby, silently observing them.
“Here, this is for you.”
As soon as they settled down, Luo Shiyu pulled the guitar from behind her and handed it to Chen An.
“So soon?” Chen An was taken aback, completely unaware that Luo Shiyu had called him out today specifically to give him the guitar.
Hesitation flickered across his face, and he didn’t immediately reach out to take it.
Seemingly sensing his inner conflict, Luo Shiyu forcefully shoved it into his hands and said, “Didn’t I say yesterday? Consider it an investment. Besides, how can you study music without a guitar?”
“Alright… fine.” Chen An sighed inwardly, silently making a note of it.
A meal, a guitar—once he had the means, he would repay her without fail.
Chen An placed the guitar on his lap. Though he couldn’t see, his master-level skills allowed him to become one with the instrument the moment his fingers touched it.
With practiced ease, he tuned the strings and casually plucked them a few times.
Watching his movements, Luo Shiyu felt even more convinced that she hadn’t misjudged him.
Though fate had closed the window to Chen An’s sight, it had opened another—one for musical genius.
And also…
Her thoughts trailed off as she found herself staring at his profile, lost in a daze.
His bone structure was that of a classic heartthrob. Though his eyes couldn’t see, their clarity was so striking that it made one want to… well, lick them.
Her face flushed red, and she quickly averted her gaze, scolding herself inwardly for such shameless thoughts.
Thank goodness Chen An couldn’t see her.
Little did she know, however, that a pair of eyes just over ten meters away had witnessed everything with perfect clarity.
“The pain… it’s too much.”
Su Ling slumped to the ground, feeling as though she had just gone through a breakup.
Her dear Luo Luo had actually fallen for someone else.
And that someone was actually blind.
If only she hadn’t taken her to the piano classroom that day.
Su Ling was filled with regret.
Meanwhile, after plucking the guitar strings, Chen An couldn’t help but marvel inwardly.
What a fine instrument—it must have cost a fortune.
“Have you prepared your song for the competition?” Luo Shiyu suddenly asked.
Chen An nodded.
“Then play a section for me? Let me hear how it’ll sound for the competition?” Luo Shiyu blinked her big eyes at him.
“Alright,” Chen An agreed.
His fingers began dancing across the strings.
From the first note, a melancholic atmosphere began spreading through the room.
“Someone Like Me” was undoubtedly a song about growing older—starting with the belief that one is special, only to eventually realize there’s nothing particularly different about oneself.
This feeling of becoming just another face in the crowd made Luo Shiyu’s nose tingle the moment he sang the lyrics.
This song… it’s about himself, isn’t it?
As for why Chen An had lost his sight, she’d never asked and didn’t intend to. That was surely a painful scar in his heart—poking at it would only hurt him.
But what she wanted to say now was: “Chen An, a person like you could never be just ordinary.”
Not far away, Su Ling listened quietly to the entire song. The raw emotion in it had long since brought tears streaming down her face.
How annoying—just like last time, and now again. Every time, he had to make her all teary-eyed.
In that moment, she seemed to understand Luo Shiyu’s choice.
Honestly, even she found her heart racing uncontrollably upon hearing this song and seeing Chen An’s face again. She desperately wanted to know what had happened to this boy in his past.
Well, looks like feelings come when they please.
Touching her flushed cheeks, Su Ling didn’t dare watch any longer and fled the scene in a hurry.
On stage, Chen An’s fingers danced to the final notes.
He took a deep breath and smiled. “Well?”
“Ah… oh… this song is just too good,” Luo Shiyu, snapped out of her reverie, quickly exclaimed in delight.
With this song, passing the competition would be a breeze.
“The competition starts the day after tomorrow. I’ll take you there,” Luo Shiyu said then.
Chen An opened his mouth to refuse, but remembering his blindness—he might get sold on the way without even knowing it—he could only nod in agreement.
After all, the venue was in the capital, not far from their school.
The moment Chen An agreed, Luo Shiyu had an impulse and snapped a photo of him with her phone.
Dressed in a white shirt and black shorts, with neatly trimmed short hair and looks that could make anyone swoon, the image of Chen An in the photo startled Luo Shiyu.
Especially with him holding the guitar—he looked every bit the musical prince.
She hadn’t expected him to be so photogenic either.
“What’s wrong?” Chen An asked, sensing the sudden quiet around him.
“Nothing, nothing,” Luo Shiyu chuckled as she saved the photo, then stood up and pulled Chen An to his feet.
“Where to?” Chen An was taken aback.
“This young lady is hungry. Let’s eat.”
Before he could say another word, Luo Shiyu was already pulling him along as she ran off.
Chen An had no choice but to mentally add one more thing to his list.
“Eating, plus one.”
Meanwhile, at the production team of “Star of Tomorrow.”
Director Chen Xu was currently reviewing the list of contestants on his computer.
Beside him, a man chuckled and said, “This time, Jiaxing Entertainment, Beihai Entertainment, and Haiming Entertainment have all sent their people here.”
