- Chapter 17 - Wife, Bathing Together
A delicate rose was pressed against Gu Fei’s lips. Her eyelashes trembled slightly, and the tips of her ears turned beet red.
Considering their current location, Gu Fei pursed her lips, wanting to refuse.
“Wife, let’s just go home… mm…”
Before she could finish her sentence, Gu Fei was “forced” to taste the rich fragrance of the rose. One of Pei Yao’s palms rested on her shoulder, while the other hand was tightly interlaced with Gu Fei’s. In the dim light, she lowered her eyes, kissing Gu Fei’s fingertips with an affectionate gaze.
“But I want you, baby, right here.”
From the moment Gu Fei touched her ankle in the store, Pei Yao had been dying to do this. “You seduced me first…” Pei Yao whispered into her ear as Gu Fei, unable to resist the temptation, closed her eyes and let herself go.
Gu Fei’s heart swelled uncontrollably, and her face became a deep shade of crimson. Peering through the car window with hazy eyes, Gu Fei moved her lips and carefully sat up with Pei Yao in her arms. While blushing and trying to persuade her gently, she also tried to suppress the desire that had been stirred within her.
“But people might pass by outside. Wife, let’s go home, okay?” After the unexpected encounters with Feng Qian and Zhao Yuanyuan, Gu Fei no longer trusted the mall manager’s efficiency. Who knew if someone else might suddenly appear? In short, Gu Fei felt the underground garage was really not a good place.
Pei Yao, unwilling to wait any longer, buried herself in Gu Fei’s embrace, breathing shallowly as she kissed and stroked Gu Fei’s collarbone. “Be a little quieter, no one will notice…” “Baby, I missed you so much…”
Pei Yao’s tender, seductive voice was right at her ear. Gu Fei’s heartbeat was almost impossible to hide, and her stubborn persistence collapsed. Inside the cramped car, she lay back on the seat with Pei Yao in her arms and reached under the center console to grab a box of finger cots.
Pei Yao opened her eyes to look at her. It wasn’t until Gu Fei leaned over that Pei Yao realized what she had just been doing.
“Mm… I thought baby wouldn’t use these today…” Stroking the back of Gu Fei’s neck, Pei Yao teased her with a smile between shallow breaths. “Preparing these in the car too… you clearly… wanted to do this for a long time… you little rascal…”
Gu Fei, who was currently pressing light kisses against her neck, opened her mouth and stammered a defense with a flushed face. “I just put them there randomly…”
“Is that so?” Pei Yao chuckled and looked at her. She applied a little pressure to Gu Fei’s wrist, and the two swapped positions. Looking down at Gu Fei’s palm resting on her waist, Pei Yao stroked her wrist. “Baby, are you out of strength after just a moment?”
“No…” Gu Fei responded in a small voice, feeling slighted. She was just having a bit of trouble finding leverage because the space was too cramped. Sitting halfway up in the car, Gu Fei pulled Pei Yao closer. “I still have strength.”
“Mm… I know.” While curling her lips to press a rewarding kiss to the corner of Gu Fei’s mouth, Pei Yao reached for the center console. A few seconds later, Gu Fei, who was completely lost in Pei Yao’s embrace, had her ear lightly pinched, and a gentle, teasing voice sounded. “Putting them there randomly… so you put ten boxes?”
“…” Gu Fei realized the situation a beat late. She glanced sideways from the embrace and saw the familiar small boxes Pei Yao was holding, along with a pile of others scattered across the console. “…They’re just for backup.”
Unable to explain herself at all, a crimson-faced Gu Fei buried her head again, trying to escape the playfulness and teasing in Pei Yao’s eyes.
“Mm… so how many boxes does baby plan to use today?” After confirming that only one box had been opened, Pei Yao suppressed her rising suspicion and chose to believe Gu Fei’s words for now. It wasn’t that she was too sensitive, but rather that Gu Fei was too naughty. Who wouldn’t overthink when someone kept so many finger cots in their car?
“…Two?” Gu Fei, unaware she had been under suspicion again, answered her wife’s question obediently. She felt they should still be moderate since they were outside. The car was cramped and dark, and she had to be on guard for passersby at any moment; it wasn’t nearly as comfortable as being at home.
“No, two boxes.” Raising an eyebrow, Pei Yao captured her lips and made a soft decision. Since her little fiancée had prepared so many in the car, it would be a pity not to help her use a few.
By the time they reached home, it was nearly evening. Pei Yao had already fallen asleep on the way back. After carrying her to the bedroom, a blushing Gu Fei returned to the garage alone with cleaning supplies. She felt she probably wouldn’t drive this car for a while; it was too easy to get distracted and cause an accident.
After cleaning up the remaining finger cots, tissues, and the torn pair of black stockings, Gu Fei used alcohol to disinfect and clean the backseat. Then, in an act of “covering her tracks,” she placed an air freshener in the car. Before leaving, Gu Fei opened the center console and saw eight unopened boxes still sitting there. After some hesitation, she left them where they were. It turned out that keeping these in the car really was useful for emergencies.
It wasn’t until she finished making dinner in the kitchen that Gu Fei returned to the bedroom to wake Pei Yao. But when she opened the door, she found the bed empty. Even more despairing was that Pei Yao was nowhere to be found in the bathroom, guest room, or study.
Despite the panic rising in her heart, Gu Fei forced herself to remain calm and first tried to call Pei Yao. However, when the ringtone sounded, she realized that Pei Yao’s phone had been left under the bed at some point. These signs made Gu Fei absolutely certain that another personality switch had likely occurred.
Calling Auntie Sun at the old estate, Gu Fei ran toward the garage. Her only hope now was that even if Qin Qingwei had switched personalities, she would still go to the old house or Gu Yi’s bar. Otherwise, the chance of Gu Fei finding her was almost zero. Whether it was the first meeting with Gu Yi or the subsequent encounter with Teacher Song, they had always been the ones to contact Gu Fei first. Only Pei Yao had been an exception.
At this moment, Gu Fei felt incredibly frustrated with her own carelessness. She should have seen this coming; knowing Qin Qingwei’s state was unstable, she had still let another “disconnection” happen. Upon learning from Auntie Sun that Qin Qingwei hadn’t been to the old house, Gu Fei started the car and headed for the bar.
It wasn’t until her foot hit the gas pedal that Gu Fei realized she had been so flustered she even forgot to change her shoes. She was still wearing her indoor slippers. Frowning, she looked away. She instructed Auntie Sun to contact her immediately if she saw Qin Qingwei, then sped off. As she drove past the entrance of the residential area, a thought struck her, and she slammed on the brakes.
After jumping out of the car, she ran to the security booth. “Hello, could you please help me check the entrance surveillance footage?”
In the playback, Gu Fei finally saw Qin Qingwei’s figure. About forty minutes ago, wearing casual clothes, a baseball cap, and a mask, Qin Qingwei had appeared at the entrance before getting into a taxi and driving away. Gu Fei successfully saw the taxi’s license plate number.
With this information, Gu Fei was no longer as panicked as before. She called the taxi company and obtained the driver’s contact information under the pretext of having left an item in the car. Facing the driver’s caution, Gu Fei claimed she had a fight with her wife and successfully got the location where Qin Qingwei had been dropped off.
A beauty salon.
“…”
As she drove to the front of the salon, Gu Fei wondered if the personality that appeared this time was actually Qin Qingwei herself. After all, she had worn a hat and mask for a disguise before leaving and had gone to a salon she used to frequent. With this hope, Gu Fei walked into the salon in her slippers, unable to hide the smile on her face.
Fortunately, she was also a member there. After some negotiation, Gu Fei successfully obtained information about Qin Qingwei. Unfortunately, she was a step too late; Qin Qingwei had left just ten minutes ago. Moreover, this time Qin Qingwei had left in a private car, making it impossible for Gu Fei to contact the driver.
“…”
With no other choice but to try her luck, Gu Fei headed toward the bar once again.
Thirty minutes ago.
When Qin Qingwei’s consciousness awakened, she found herself sitting in a beauty salon. One of her hands was being held by the manicurist opposite her, who was busy sticking tiny diamonds onto her nails.
“…”
Pulling the cold sheet mask off her face, Qin Qingwei surveyed the familiar surroundings of the salon, her brow furrowed.
Her mind held only blurred, fragmented memories of the awards ceremony. She remembered nothing of what had happened since.
Gu Yi must have stepped in to bear the pain for me again.
A wave of guilt and complexity washed over her. She bit her lip, struggling to contain the panic rising within. Gu Fei must have been terrified when she didn’t return home that night.
She didn’t know how many days of “memory loss” she had experienced this time, let alone how to explain it to Gu Fei. She wasn’t intentionally hiding her illness; she was simply… afraid.
Afraid that Gu Fei would leave her, and even more afraid that Gu Fei would pity her. Gu Fei had always been so good to her even when they were children and didn’t yet know each other’s names, the younger Gu Fei had shielded her from the ugliness of the world.
If Gu Fei knew about her condition and offered to support her through treatment, she would inevitably learn about Qingwei’s past memories that might even trigger Gu Fei’s own past trauma.
That was the last thing Qin Qingwei wanted. The Gu Fei of the present was perfect; it didn’t matter if she didn’t remember their first encounter.
Twenty minutes later, Gu Fei arrived at the bar, only to be stopped at the entrance by two security guards.
“I’m wearing a mask,” Gu Fei said, blinking urgently and pointing to the white feather mask she had just bought.
“Apologies, miss, but we have a dress code. No admittance for those improperly dressed.” The guard, who was nearly a head taller than Gu Fei, pointed down at her feet.
“…”
Flushed with embarrassment, Gu Fei peered inside before trying to negotiate. “Is your boss here? I’m looking for her.”
The guards exchanged a glance, their eyes sweeping over her. “If you want to confess your love to our boss, you should go change your shoes first.”
“So she is here today, right?” Gu Fei asked, ignoring the dismissal.
“Mm-hmm.” The guard nodded.
Gu Fei beamed, letting out a sigh of relief. “Please let me in. I’m actually your boss’s girlfriend. Really.”
“Groups of people use that excuse to see her every month,” the guard said, pouting at Gu Fei’s slippers again. “But you’re the only one who hasn’t dressed up or brought flowers. You showed up sloppy in slippers. You won’t get her attention this way.”
“They aren’t ‘sloppy,'” Gu Fei muttered, looking down at her clean, custom-made couple’s slippers.
Determined to see her wife, Gu Fei scanned the street, but the area was filled with bars and not a single shoe store. Resigned, she ordered a delivery on her phone, deciding to stake out the entrance for her wife while waiting for new shoes.
Remembering the guard’s words, she also found a florist and solemnly ordered a bouquet of roses.
The guard caught a glimpse of her screen and couldn’t help but comment. “Miss, at least send long-stemmed roses. What’s with the multi-colored ‘wild’ roses? Trying to save money?”
“My wife likes these roses,” Gu Fei retorted, glaring back.
“Thick-skinned… she’s already calling her ‘wife’…” the guard whispered, loud enough for Gu Fei to hear.
Frustrated, Gu Fei adjusted her sleeves and looked up at the second floor—Gu Yi’s bedroom. It was too high to climb. Just as she was about to retreat to her car to wait, a familiar voice called out behind her.
“Xiao Fei?”
Gu Fei spun around. Despite the mask the other woman was wearing, she recognized those gentle eyes instantly. It was her wife, Qin Qingwei.
“Qingwei!”
Gu Fei threw her arms around her, her eyes stinging with a mix of joy and relief. As Qin Qingwei led her back to the car, Gu Fei turned to the guards and removed her mask.
“Take a good look. Next time you see me, remember to call me the Boss’s Wife.”
“…”
“Is she really the boss’s girlfriend?”
“I don’t know!” The two guards looked at each other in shock. “Did you see what she looked like?”
“It was too dark, and she was too far away…”
Inside the car, Qin Qingwei’s heart was heavy. Gu Fei had clearly met Gu Yi and likely knew about her condition now.
“Xiao Fei, I’m sorry. I didn’t mean to keep it from you…”
“It’s okay. Being sick isn’t your fault.” In the quiet cabin, Gu Fei gently stroked Qin Qingwei’s reddened eyes, pressing a tender kiss to the corner of one. “We’ll take the treatment slowly. Don’t be afraid, Qingwei.”
“I…” Qin Qingwei buried her face in Gu Fei’s shoulder, her lips pressed tight. After a long silence, she whispered, “Xiao Fei… I don’t want treatment. I don’t want to remember the past… I’m sorry.”
“You’ve met Gu Yi, haven’t you? She appeared a long time ago… she’s borne so much pain for me. Treatment means… she has to disappear.”
Gu Fei frowned slightly, sensing something was off, but stayed silent. Her silence made Qin Qingwei fear she had disappointed her. She hugged Gu Fei’s waist tighter, silent tears falling against her neck.
“Xiao Fei, Gu Yi won’t bother us. She has her own life. I’ll control myself; I won’t have another episode or disappear suddenly and scare you again…”
“Qingwei,” Gu Fei interrupted, her voice husky. Hearing those words made her heart tremble with pity. Seeing the plea in her wife’s eyes, Gu Fei bit her lip and then forced a cheerful smile, wiping away the tears. “Okay. We won’t do the treatment. You know I always listen to my wife.”
“Thank you…” Qin Qingwei kissed her through her tears.
On the way home, Gu Fei told her about the past few days, but used only Gu Yi’s name, never mentioning Song Yanran or Pei Yao. Qin Qingwei didn’t notice anything amiss, though she cut her off when she heard Gu Yi had gone to the old estate.
“Xiao Fei. Gu Yi isn’t me. We aren’t the same person.”
As the car stopped at a red light, Qin Qingwei took Gu Fei’s hand, her gaze cool yet tender. “Don’t fall in love with her, okay?”
Gu Fei’s face flushed as she thought about her interactions with Gu Yi, Song Yanran, and Pei Yao. Under Qingwei’s clear gaze, she felt a sudden pang of “betrayal.” But she quickly regained her senses; she knew Qingwei was still ill. The fact that she didn’t want treatment and only knew of Gu Yi’s existence proved she didn’t understand the full extent of her condition.
“Okay. My only wife is Qin Qingwei.” Gu Fei kissed her fingertips just as the light turned green.
Suddenly, the tiny diamonds on Qin Qingwei’s nails pricked her lip. “Wife…” Gu Fei touched her lip as she restarted the car. “When did you get a manicure?”
“Gu Yi did it…” Qin Qingwei leaned in with concern, frowning at Gu Fei’s lip. “Does it hurt? I should go get them removed later.”
“It’s fine, just a scratch. Let’s go home and eat. I made dinner, but it’s probably cold by now.”
“It doesn’t matter. We can just heat it up.” Qin Qingwei held Gu Fei’s hand tightly, a relieved smile finally touching her eyes.
That night, while Qin Qingwei was showering, Gu Fei called the doctor. They only spoke briefly before Gu Fei heard a noise and hung up.
“Wife, is something wrong?” Gu Fei poked her head into the bathroom.
Under the steaming shower, Qin Qingwei looked over with a slight blush. “The manicure is a bit inconvenient; it keeps scratching me…”
Gu Fei, who had actually thought the nails looked nice, stepped inside. She checked her wife’s skin carefully to make sure she hadn’t hurt herself. “Can I help you wash, wife?”
“…Mm.”
Qin Qingwei turned to face her, her damp fingertips resting on Gu Fei’s arm. “Xiao Fei.”
“Yeah?”
As a blushing Gu Fei applied body wash, she heard her wife’s low, melodic voice. “You’re getting wet too, come wash with me.”
