- Chapter 91 - Coaxing and Persuasion
At the sound of the voice, the wing-kin hesitated for a moment before parting to make a path.
A woman dressed in green walked up to Qi Ran. A string of small white porcelain bottles with green lotus patterns hung from her waist, clinking crisply with every step she took.
“Greetings, Master.” Qi Ran lowered the hand holding the token and bowed respectfully to the woman.
The woman in green chuckled with an “Ai,” reaching out to rub Qi Ran’s hair. A few stray strands of her ink-black hair brushed against Qi Ran’s face, tickling her. “So, Ran’er actually remembered to come back? I thought you were going to stay wild out there for another hundred years~”
She looked around but didn’t see Yu Qingyue, asking in surprise, “Where is A-Qing?”
“Senior Sister Qing went with her Daoist partner to handle some matters.” Qi Ran kept her head lowered. “It was the entourage of the God of Medicine who escorted me back, but the Lord God, she…”
Before she could finish, the woman in green had already spotted Chong Yun standing behind Meng Nie, as well as the large white cat in her arms.
Seeing her fall into contemplation while looking at the cat, the leader of the wing-kin patrol couldn’t help but ask, “Lord Qi Niao, should Qi Ran be taken to the dungeons?”
“Mm, no need for now. I need to ask her about things in the outside world.” As Qi Niao spoke, she walked toward Chong Yun, spreading her arms with a smile. “Little friend, could you temporarily entrust this child to my care?”
Chong Yun had learned on the journey that Qi Ran’s master was a God from the Upper Realm. She carefully handed over the white cat, watching as Qi Niao took it into her arms and gently stroked its fur.
The seven cat-demon subordinates, however, were uneasy and exchanged glances. Finally, Xian Lihua transformed into her human form and bowed to Qi Niao. “Lord God, we are the subordinates of this white cat. Would you allow us to follow?”
“Since you are subordinates, then come along,” Qi Niao smiled. “Ran’er, you come too. The others can take the honored guests into the city to rest.”
With a wave of her hand, she summoned a teleportation array. Once Qi Ran and the seven cats entered, she flicked her sleeve. In the next instant, they were all transported into her clinic.
“Sit anywhere. No person or demon will enter here.” As soon as Qi Niao finished speaking, seven spirit pearls lit up, illuminating the room like daylight. She then pulled down a hanging curtain. “However, while I am treating the patient, please keep your voices down.”
The seven cats nodded vigorously. Seeing Qi Ran habitually sit on a stone stool in the furthest corner, the cats gathered around her, lying down at her feet.
“This Lord God also knows medicine?” Xian Lihua looked at the curtain blocking their view and whispered to Qi Ran.
“Master is a close friend of Lord Liu,” Qi Ran replied. “Her medical skills were all learned from Lord Liu. It’s just that Lord Liu is skilled at saving people, while she is more skilled at harming them…”
Suddenly, a spirit stone flew out from behind the curtain, hitting Qi Ran squarely in the forehead with a thump.
“…Not skilled at harming people. Master is a Poison Physician,” Qi Ran corrected herself. Expressionless, she took the stone off her forehead and applied a healing spell to the spot. “She usually treats illnesses and injuries too. She is very reliable in medicine, so rest assured.”
While Qi Ran was praising Qi Niao to the cats, Qi Niao was standing beside the white cat. Using her divine sense to observe, she frowned. “Yiyi, what on earth happened? How did you end up eating a whole living person?”
Muttering aside, her movements were swift. She drew a formation on the white cat’s belly and another on an empty warm stone bed. She rapidly chanted obscure and lengthy ancient incantations. At the final verse, she made a pulling motion between the two formations. Suddenly, a figure appeared on the empty bed, it was the deceased Seventh Princess, Sha Lanyi!
After Sha Lanyi had sent Liu Fenyun into the dream, she had been waiting for her return. But before Liu Fenyun could come back, she was pulled out of the darkness by a mysterious force.
She opened her eyes in shock, finding herself lying on a couch with a woman in green she had never seen before standing in front of her.
“Who are you…?” Sha Lanyi tried to move her limbs. The sudden sensation of physical reality startled her even more. “Are you a Lord God too?!”
“Yes~” Qi Niao replied casually. After performing a meticulous check with her divine sense, she patted the girl’s shoulder. “You had a fatal congenital deficiency, but it has been repaired by divine essence now. Just make sure to eat some tonic herbs daily from now on.”
“But I… I am a dead person?” Sha Lanyi said in disbelief. “I died of illness four years ago. Otherwise, my soul wouldn’t have left my body…”
“I don’t know about that. Anyway, right now you’re just a slightly ‘sub-healthy’ living human.” Qi Niao rubbed the girl’s brown hair and pressed her back down. “I suggest you lie down and rest for a bit.”
“O-okay, thank you so much!” Sha Lanyi thanked her hurriedly, still reeling from the shock of being resurrected as she lay back down.
Qi Niao was a God who had fully reclaimed her power, separating souls was easy for her. Consequently, she didn’t even realize what a monumental feat she had just performed.
However, when she probed Lian Yi’s sea of consciousness with her divine sense, she didn’t know where to start.
She could see the two figures leaning against each other in the consciousness, but her divine sense was blocked by a deep black barrier. She couldn’t pull Liu Fenyun’s soul out. Because of this barrier, Lian Yi could not be awakened and was trapped in her own consciousness along with Liu Fenyun.
“Closing herself off? This is troublesome. I can only wait for Yiyi to figure it out herself,” Qi Niao murmured. “The body being dead is fine, but not being able to separate the souls is a problem…”
Seeing her emerge from the curtain, Qi Ran and Xian Lihua stood up immediately.
“Master, how is their condition?” Qi Ran asked.
Qi Niao thought for a moment and said diplomatically, “The party involved has suffered quite a shock. Let’s give them some time to recover. You all stay here. I’m going to retrieve the body of the God of Medicine.”
Meanwhile, inside Lian Yi’s sea of consciousness.
Sensing a familiar aura flash by and vanish, Liu Fenyun was startled. She stood up instinctively, looking toward the pitch-black “sky.”
“What’s wrong, A-Yun?” Lian Yi stood up as well, gripping her hand and embracing her from behind. “Don’t be afraid. It’s very safe here. No one will ever disturb us again.”
Liu Fenyun gave a small hum of agreement, but unease rose within her.
It was one thing for her to be unable to leave, but why was the cat staying in this sea of consciousness too?
Was the cat unable to leave, or unwilling?
“Yiyi,” she couldn’t help but say, “Could you please tell Qi Ran and General Meng that I haven’t died? Just a message of safety like that would be enough.”
The cat behind her didn’t answer for a long time. Just as Liu Fenyun was about to repeat herself, she heard a soft voice: “I can’t. I will never leave you again.”
“It’s not leaving, it’s….”
“I only need to be with A-Yun. What do the concerns of others have to do with me? They won’t bring A-Yun back to life anyway.” Lian Yi interrupted, resting her head on Liu Fenyun’s back and holding her tighter.
Liu Fenyun thought to herself that things were looking grim. Lian Yi’s “blackening” value wouldn’t drop, which meant her yandere traits were fully active. Given that this cat was the type who preferred to confine her lover, it wasn’t surprising she’d trap herself and Liu Fenyun together in this consciousness.
She thought for a moment and asked, “Yiyi, do you want to return to the God Realm? We can go back now…”
“I only want you.”
Interrupted again, Lian Yi let go and stood in front of her, revealing a very pure smile. “It’s fine here. I have A-Yun, and I have the memories of us together. A-Yun can slowly recover her memories here, or… do anything you want with me.”
This time, before Liu Fenyun could speak, her face was cupped, and her lips were met with a soft, warm kiss.
Liu Fenyun trembled slightly, instinctively wanting to pull back, but fearing she might provoke the cat, she could only cooperate with the kiss.
She knew very well that her cat was “sick” again, and this time, the illness was more difficult than ever.
But she was a God, after all. If she stayed in Lian Yi’s sea of consciousness for too long, her divine pressure would slowly destroy it, subsequently damaging Lian Yi’s physical body.
No matter what, she had to leave as soon as possible.
After a period of being clung to, Liu Fenyun stroked the cat’s back and asked gently, “Then, if they have already arrived in the Demon Realm and have a way to resurrect me, would Yiyi go and let them know we are safe?”
She could only hope that Qi Ran and the others had indeed reached the Demon Realm.
Lian Yi froze, a look of hesitation appearing on her face.
“Master once said that there are Gods in the Demon Realm, and Gods have ways to bring the dead back to life,” Liu Fenyun continued her persuasion. “These memories are precious, but I want to be alive to accompany Yiyi to comb your fur, try on clothes, and feed you, rather than being like this…”
Even though Lian Yi didn’t interrupt this time, she didn’t finish the sentence. She just looked at Lian Yi calmly, waiting for her to make a choice.
“…I promise you,” Lian Yi said after a long silence, her eyes brimming with tears. “I also want A-Yun to come back to life to be with me.”
Liu Fenyun secretly breathed a sigh of relief. Wiping away the tears, she smiled. “Then Yiyi, go and come back quickly. I’ll be waiting for your good news.”
The cat in her arms reluctantly let go, looking back three times with every step before finally vanishing from the sea of consciousness.
When Lian Yi woke up, she felt an emptiness in her body, as if something was missing.
However, her mind was entirely focused on finding a God. She didn’t pay much attention to it as she surveyed her surroundings. Feeling the dense spiritual energy in the air, she concluded they must be in the Demon Realm. Just as she was about to jump off the warm stone bed, the nearby curtain was pulled open. A woman with brown hair and blue eyes from the Di tribe walked in, carrying a bucket of water.
Lian Yi thought the woman looked familiar. After staring for a few seconds, she was so startled she jumped up, slipped, and fell off the bed. Ignoring the pain, she scrambled to hide under the curtain, only to be scooped up into the woman’s arms.
Sha Lanyi smoothed down the cat’s bristling fur and asked with a smile, “What’s wrong, A-Bai? You don’t want to see me?”
“You… you are… Seventh Princess Sha Lanyi?!” Lian Yi’s current shock was no less than if she had seen a ghost. “But weren’t you…”
The second half of the sentence, “eaten by me” didn’t come out. She suddenly realized where that feeling of emptiness came from.
Since the Seventh Princess was standing before her, she must have left her body. Both her soul and her human form were no longer inside her.
“I am grateful to the Lord God for resurrecting me,” Sha Lanyi smiled. “And thank you, kind little white cat. You nurtured my body and allowed me to escape the torment of my illness. You must be a little lucky star sent by the heavens to my side…”
Sha Lanyi had been raised as a Saintess since childhood; when she spoke words of gratitude, it sounded like a hymn of praise.
Lian Yi was in a hurry to find the God, so she raised a paw to cut her off. “Does the Princess know where the Lord God went?”
“The Lord God only said she was going to retrieve the body of the God of Medicine, she didn’t say where. But I have a feeling she will return very soon.” Sha Lanyi held the cat with one arm and pulled the bucket closer. “A-Bai, why don’t you take a bath first? You’re covered in blood, and your beautiful fur is all matted.”
Lian Yi hesitated for two seconds. She summoned a bit of water to form a mirror and stared at her filthy reflection, stunned.
Thinking about how Liu Fenyun would have to comb her fur after being resurrected, she gritted her teeth and jumped into the bucket of her own accord.
