Marry First, Love Later With The White Cat Princess - Chapter 67
In the latter half of the night, Yu Qingyue heard the person beside her drawing in sharp breaths of cold air. She hurriedly lit a lamp, pulled her into her arms, and whispered softly, “Do you need medicine?”
“No, no need!” Luo Binglun was already finding it hard to sleep tonight, being caught enduring the pain made her so ashamed she wanted to find a hole to crawl into. “I am already of the Demon Race. A mere minor injury won’t take long to… to…”
She didn’t know why her body was so sensitive. According to Yu Qingyue’s explanation, it was likely because she was too tense.
Before she could finish her sentence, Yu Qingyue had already reached out to gently support her, chanting a healing incantation.
“I wanted to check before bed, but you wouldn’t let me. Now you’ve learned your lesson, haven’t you?” After finishing the chant, Yu Qingyue sighed. “Since we are to be Dao companions, there will only be more of this in the future, not less. If you act stubborn every time, it will make things very difficult for me, and it’s not good for your body.”
Luo Binglun had originally calmed down, but hearing “more, not less,” she subconsciously recalled the beautiful night they had just shared. Coupled with the sensation of where Yu Qingyue’s hand was still resting, her face instantly flushed. She suddenly grabbed Yu Qingyue’s arm, opened her mouth, and bit down with her white teeth.
A slight sting followed. Yu Qingyue looked down at her resentful little movement and smiled faintly, smoothing her slightly messy hair. “Getting angry over a little teasing isn’t good for your body either,” she said unhurriedly.
Luo Binglun huffed and let go, saying willfully, “If you coax me, then I won’t be angry anymore.”
She knew Yu Qingyue usually didn’t know how to coax people. Even with her, the most she would usually get was a sentence like “Stop fooling around.”
Unexpectedly, Yu Qingyue pondered for a moment with her chin in her hand, then gently patted her back, softening her voice: “I was wrong, baby.”
Luo Binglun: “…”
She thought she had misheard or was hallucinating or perhaps this feather demon in front of her had been possessed by something foul. She expected to see Yu Qingyue’s smugness turn into embarrassment, but instead, she found her looking genuinely surprised.
“Did you not hear me clearly? I was wrong, baby. It was I who provoked you.”
After a long silence, Luo Binglun suddenly cried out sharply, “You aren’t Yu Qingyue! The Qingyue of this time… she would never say such words to me! Who are you?!”
Ignoring the pain and discomfort in her body, she pushed Yu Qingyue away and moved to get off the bed, only to be encircled from behind by a pair of warm hands.
“There is no need to doubt; I am naturally Yu Qingyue.” The familiar voice sounded by her ear, yet it lacked even a hint of distance. “It’s just that while stabilizing my memories just now, I accidentally recovered a portion of my future memories and spoke some sappy words. It’s natural that you find it strange.”
Luo Binglun gasped and blurted out, “You… you remember everything?”
Pulling her back onto the bed, Yu Qingyue shook her head, her gaze incredibly soft. “I haven’t remembered everything. But I already know that those are very important memories.”
She paused. “I also know that to the future me, you are the most important person. However… that nickname just now was indeed the first time I’ve said it to you personally. The future me wrote it in a pocket notebook. I thought you would like it.”
With that, Yu Qingyue fetched her outer robe, pulled out a small booklet, and handed it to Luo Binglun. “If you don’t believe me, you can look through it yourself.”
Luo Binglun thought of the diaries she had written herself and didn’t dare take it, fearing she might see even more mushy words. Her heart began to race again as she shook her head. “No, I believe you.”
A Shared Future
With the lights out, they returned to the same blanket. Knowing her beloved had regained some memories made Luo Binglun overjoyed. She found Yu Qingyue’s hand and squeezed it, leaning close. “Then… do you think I’m being reckless?”
“To what are you referring?” Yu Qingyue looked at her.
“Giving up the position of High Priest to return to the Demon Realm with you to… get married.” At the time, caught up in the atmosphere, Luo Binglun had boldly declared her intent. Now, reflecting on it, she feared the Yu Qingyue with recovered memories would blame her for being blinded by love and neglecting her country and people.
Yu Qingyue replied calmly, “You are the High Priest. If you feel it is time to step down, then step down. If you wish to remain in the Kingdom of Zhuhuang, you naturally can. I respect your choice.”
She never liked being forced, nor did she like forcing others.
Seeing Luo Binglun’s lingering fear, Yu Qingyue thought for a moment and added, “Then do you think I am being reckless?”
Luo Binglun looked at her blankly.
“A Heaven-rank physician visiting Zhuhuang was swallowed whole by a Great Demon,” Yu Qingyue reminded her.
Luo Binglun gave a wry smile. “That’s different…”
“How is it different?” Yu Qingyue countered. “The High Priest holds great power and cares for the people; the Heaven rank physician heals the world and benefits all. How is it different?”
Luo Binglun couldn’t find an argument, but seeing that Yu Qingyue didn’t blame her, she breathed a sigh of relief. She wrapped her arms around her and buried her face in her chest, whispering guiltily, “In that case, we really are the same. I’ve never thought you were being reckless either.”
Yu Qingyue’s embrace was very warm. As Luo Binglun pressed closer, she noticed her heartbeat was also quite fast, not nearly as calm as her surface suggested.
“Qingyue,” she suddenly called out, “I want to touch your feathers.”
Yu Qingyue didn’t answer verbally, but soon Luo Binglun felt a soft expanse covering her, protecting her in the center.
“Because my memories were cluttered, I didn’t ask you before,” Yu Qingyue said. “How did you become a member of the Demon Race? And why… are you a feather demon?”
Luo Binglun felt the feathers and thought for a moment. “It was an accident. When I fought Qi Ran, I accidentally consumed a Great Demon’s inner core left by my elders as a protective talisman.”
Yu Qingyue didn’t ask where the core came from, humans hunting demons for their cores was all too common. She was only worried about Luo Binglun’s condition. “Now that you’ve suddenly become a demon, are you used to it?”
Whether human or demon, refining a Great Demon’s core is no easy feat. There have even been cases of humans being backlashed by the core and exploding.
“I’m used to it,” Luo Binglun said, then cracked a joke. “I’m just not used to using wings and I’m not good at flying. If you saw me flying, you’d definitely think I’m ugly.”
“That is not a difficult matter.” The corners of Yu Qingyue’s lips curled up. “If you want to learn to fly, I can teach you. But it is late, you should rest.”
Hidden Concerns
After the commotion, Luo Binglun was indeed tired. Caressing the soft feathers, she slowly closed her eyes, and before long, her breathing became deep and steady.
Yu Qingyue, however, was not sleepy at all. Still worried, she checked Luo Binglun’s pulse and then sent her spiritual consciousness into her body to examine the fusion of the demon core and the human body.
If Luo Binglun was hiding anything about her condition, she had to find it early.
However, what she found inside surprised her, from the meridians to the organs, there was a dense demonic aura. The demonic form was perfectly settled within her body without a single sign of backlash.
Yu Qingyue had thought Luo Binglun was now a half-demon, but upon closer inspection, if she hadn’t known the core came from a Qingyuan bird, she would have thought Luo Binglun was just like her, a demon intentionally masquerading as a human.
“The inner core of a divine bird is truly extraordinary,” Yu Qingyue murmured. She gazed at Luo Binglun for a while and sighed with regret.
Even if Luo Binglun still wanted to stay in Zhuhuang, the Qingyuan core had already assimilated her. Even her prejudice against demons had been reversed. Over time, she would only become more like a demon, and her aura would become impossible to hide.
Furthermore, she feared the soul of the Qingyuan bird wasn’t dead and might take over Luo Binglun’s body. She had to find a way to take her back to the Demon Realm. As for Zhuhuang… she needed to find a solution quickly.
Yu Qingyue thought all night but found no answer. Near dawn, she reviewed her memories and felt that spreading the news of the “High Priest being eaten by a demon” might not be such a bad idea after all.
The Next Morning
The next morning, Liu Fenyun woke up early, ate breakfast, and brought a portion back for Lian Yi. She then locked her door and went to the medicinal garden to process herbs.
The ingredients for the “Emotion Clearing Poison” were numerous. Almost every main herb required processing, some mixed with honey, others dried. She busied herself all morning and finally finished, leaving them in a cool place to set.
Leaving the garden, Liu Fenyun saw the food container on the table was untouched. A lump under the covers on the bed told her the cat was sleeping in. She walked over and hugged the rolled-up blanket.
A startled “Meow-ow!” erupted from the room. Lian Yi poked her head out and swiftly reached out, pulling the unprepared Liu Fenyun down and opening her mouth toward her face with lingering sleepiness.
Lian Yi’s strength was immense when she had “waking-up grumpiness.” Liu Fenyun couldn’t break free. After a while of struggling, she clutched her face, now covered in several red bite marks and brought the food container to the bedside, saying aggrievedly, “I just wanted to wake you up to eat…”
As soon as she spoke, she saw the cat’s ears go flat into “airplane ears,” her deep blue eyes narrowing as a low, unhappy growl vibrated in her throat. She was clearly dissatisfied with being woken up that way.
Breakfast thus became brunch. Fortunately, Liu Fenyun had the foresight to put a heat-preservation talisman on the container, or the food would have been cold.
Liu Fenyun was hungry after her busy morning. Seeing Lian Yi happily sipping preserved egg and pork porridge, she reached for a soup dumpling in the steamer.
Suddenly, a chopstick pressed against her finger. Thinking the cat was protecting her food, Liu Fenyun pulled back her hand and acted as if she had done nothing, giving her trademark smile.
When Lian Yi looked up, her chopsticks had already picked up a soup dumpling. She turned it and brought it to Liu Fenyun’s lips. “Ah….”
Liu Fenyun hadn’t expected her to offer food. Her smile froze, but with the delicious dumpling right there, she thanked her and opened her mouth. Just as she was about to eat, Lian Yi suddenly retracted the chopsticks and stuffed the dumpling into her own mouth.
“This one was leaking soup, so I won’t give it to you,” Lian Yi said softly after swallowing. She picked up another one and offered it again. “Come, eat this one. Ah….”
Liu Fenyun cooperated with an “Ah” and successfully ate the soup dumpling fed to her by the cat.
