Marry First, Love Later With The White Cat Princess - Chapter 119
Holding the sphere of light condensed from Lightning Spiritual Qi, Lianyi hesitated.
Although this clump of spiritual energy lay gently in her palm now, if she were to swallow it…
“Can one really eat a lightning tribulation?” Lianyi asked tentatively. “Didn’t A-Yun say she would guide it into my body?”
“The effect is the same, don’t worry,” Qi Niao landed beside them, glancing at the sky. “Eat it right here. Since that Great One was willing to grant you the Shape Shifting Lightning Tribulation, it means He has recognized you as the Divine Envoy of the God of Medicine.”
Lianyi also looked at the sky before finally daring to swallow the sphere of light. Instantly, her body felt weak and numb; unable to even stand, she fell backward uncontrollably.
Liu Fenyun quickly caught her. Seeing her unable to stand, she lifted her in a horizontal carry.
“How do you feel?” Liu Fenyun asked anxiously.
Leaning against her embrace, Lianyi couldn’t describe the sensation at first. However, her meridians, organs, and bones seemed to be undergoing rapid, invisible changes, giving her the feeling of being reborn.
She asked, “I have already taken human form; will the Shape Shifting Lightning Tribulation still reshape my body?”
“It will. This is the metamorphosis from a spirit pet to a Divine Envoy,” Qi Niao smiled, turning to Liu Fenyun. “Congratulations! You finally have your own Divine Envoy.”
Overjoyed, Liu Fenyun couldn’t help but lean down and kiss the cat-girl’s forehead.
Caught off guard, Lianyi’s cat ears twitched and folded. Though she couldn’t move her limbs for the moment, she could still speak: “Don’t kiss me so suddenly! You’ve got a mouthful of powder!”
After Lianyi consumed the lightning energy, the thunderclouds above the altar slowly dispersed, and sunlight spilled across the earth, shining upon the three of them.
Now that the “Heavenly Protection” was secured, Liu Fenyun felt a sudden wave of dizziness as she carried the cat-girl down the altar, nearly stumbling.
“Detected: A large number of memory orbs are unsealing!” the System’s prompt rang out. “To ensure the Host’s safety, the unsealing is currently forced on pause. However, the pause can only be maintained for fifteen minutes. Host, quickly find a quiet place to prepare to receive your memories!”
When a god descends to the mortal realm for a trial, their memories and powers are sealed to avoid disturbing the balance of the lower world and affecting the trial’s evaluation. They can only be unsealed once certain conditions are met.
Liu Fenyun paused briefly on the steps, then immediately carried Lianyi back to find Tushan Shuo.
Weddings always come with surprises. Before the ceremony, Tushan Shuo had prepared for various scenarios; upon hearing the request, she immediately arranged for fox officials to prepare a quiet room.
“Why are your memories unsealing now of all times?” Qi Niao asked Liu Fenyun blankly, having overheard the conversation. “Doesn’t that mean you’ll miss the wedding wine tonight?”
Liu Fenyun had a solution: “That’s easy. Just set up a boundary for me that slows down the passage of time. That way, I won’t miss the banquet.”
Qi Niao arched an eyebrow and teased, “Oh? You didn’t show up to my wedding, but now that it’s yours, you’re treating me like a tool?”
Liu Fenyun didn’t know whether to laugh or cry. “I was still undergoing my trial when you got married! How about this, when you and the City Lord of Kongmeng return to the God Realm, I’ll host a banquet at my divine palace?”
“No, no. When the time comes, we’ll just open a jar of medicinal wine as wedding wine and make some wedding candy,” Qi Niao waved her hand with a smile.
Despite her words, she followed them to the quiet room and set up several boundaries and arrays.
It took time for Lianyi to fully absorb the lightning tribulation, and the same was true for Liu Fenyun’s memory integration. The two sat facing each other in the quiet room.
Since Liu Fenyun had already recovered her original body after her “death and rebirth,” she had actually regained many memories previously, so she woke up faster than Lianyi.
She looked at Lianyi, who was still meditating. The past events they had shared flashed through her sea of consciousness.
She had picked up the abandoned kitten and raised her. When she ascended, she took the kitten to the God Realm. There, she researched various medicines so the cat could become a long-lived, cultivatable demon and eventually take human form.
When the cat accidentally fell to the lower realm, she immediately terminated her own trial and forcibly changed worlds to stay by her side. When they first met in this world, the amnesiac cat didn’t recognize her at all. Holding her “secret” over her head, Liu Fenyun had to carefully look after the temperamental cat just to survive.
Later, they fell in love. The cat became more jealous by the day, caring for her so much she wished she could keep her imprisoned by her side.
And then, she died to save the cat, and the cat went mad because of her death…
Thinking back carefully, they had accompanied each other for centuries. However, it was only in this Warring States era that they truly treated each other as equals and explored their romantic feelings.
Liu Fenyun reached out, and a rich divine aura instantly enveloped Lianyi, helping her refine the lightning tribulation.
Wrapped in the familiar scent, Lianyi felt warm all over. The warmth countered the electric numbness, quickly suppressing the discomfort in her body. She was too familiar with this aura; before they descended to the mortal realm, whenever she was injured or sick, Liu Fenyun would release her divine aura to heal her and make her comfortable.
Opening her eyes and locking gazes with Liu Fenyun for a few seconds, Lianyi suddenly threw herself into her arms, murmuring: “Lord God of Medicine…”
Her God of Medicine had finally returned.
“Be good, Yiyi,” Liu Fenyun gently stroked her back. “From now on, wherever I go, I can take you with me.”
Now that she had regained all her memories and power, as long as she had the coordinates of other small worlds, she could take Lianyi and leave this realm at any time.
Lianyi nodded. After a moment of silence, she asked softly, “Are you truly willing to marry me?”
In the past, one was the master and the other was a small pet she had raised. Yet, that small pet, who originally had a lifespan of only a decade, dared to dream of staying with her forever.
“Why are you using formal honorifics now?” Liu Fenyun picked her up, her chin rubbing against the cat ears as she laughed. “Suddenly afraid of me? It’s too late for that.”
Lianyi nestled in her arms, letting out a soft, obedient “Meow,” looking completely innocent and harmless.
Though it was the same person, she felt a bit more restrained looking at Liu Fenyun now.
“Aren’t you angry?” she asked cautiously. “When I hadn’t regained my memories, and when I went mad because of you… I caused so much trouble for you…”
“Why would I be angry?” Liu Fenyun said leisurely. “I watched you grow up, you were always under my protection. Naturally, I knew what you would become.”
She cupped Lianyi’s face and smiled. “Just because I like a ‘good cat’ doesn’t mean you should lose your true nature. Besides, I actually quite like the way you act out.”
Blushing, Lianyi lowered her head, letting the other woman stroke her hair.
Liu Fenyun dispelled the boundaries and arrays and led Lianyi out of the quiet room. They first thanked Tushan Shuo and then boarded the Feather Demon sent to fetch them for the banquet.
When Fu Yao saw the God and the cat again, she felt that the aura of both had changed. However, having lived with a god for so many years, she could guess what had happened and welcomed them to the feast with grace.
“A purple clad gentleman came from the human realm, claiming to be a friend of the God of Medicine. I sensed the aura of a benevolent god on him, so I invited him to the feast,” Fu Yao said to Qi Niao on the way. “I wonder if Madam recognizes him?”
Qi Niao was surprised. “Did he not give his name?”
Fu Yao replied, “He calls himself ‘Shu Jun’ (Lord of Books); it is clearly a title.”
“Ah, so it’s that old sister-con,” Qi Niao realized. “The God of Dreams is too busy to come down, but he sure likes to wander the mortal world.”
Walking behind them, Liu Fenyun heard the mention of the God of Dreams’ envoy and remembered she still needed to give him the companion grass of the “Unfading Sorrow” she had gathered.
They soon arrived outside the hall where the wedding banquet was held. According to Qi Niao, because their acquaintances in this world were either busy or undergoing trials, the palace banquet consisted of only one table, like a family dinner. However, “running water” banquets had been set up along the streets of the inner and outer cities. Liu Fenyun had already seen the festivities on her way.
Liu Fenyun thought the only guest would be the Dream God’s envoy, but as she stepped into the hall, she saw several old acquaintances, besides the God of Fate (Duan Xuan), the God of Nourishment (Jin Fei), and the Dream God’s envoy (Fu Shujin), there was also her other old friend, the God of War (Shen Zhuo). However, the God of Fate and the God of War had both brought their partners. Looking at it this way, this “Divine Family Feast” was quite lively.
“Why did you all bring your families along?” Liu Fenyun laughed, scanning the room.
“A god’s wedding wine is rare, it would be a waste not to drink it,” the God of Fate toasted her. “Today is the big wedding day of my ‘quack doctor’ friend; of course I had to bring the family to celebrate. Look, I even changed out of my usual white robes.”
Liu Fenyun glanced at her fiery red robes and couldn’t help but roast her: “True. If I didn’t know better, I’d think you were the one getting married.”
The God of Fate laughed. “I’m already married and have received the ‘Heavenly Protection’ from the Great God. There’s no reason to do it twice.”
The God of War, Shen Zhuo, was an orange cat demon of few words. She merely raised her cup in a distant toast before returning to peeling shrimp for the calico cat demon beside her. When Lianyi was still in the God Realm, she used to envy their relationship, hoping that one day she could also become a god’s partner like that calico cat. She hadn’t expected her dream to come true so soon.
The God of Nourishment, the only one without a partner, huffed and looked at the God of Fate and her envoy with envy, muttering: “When I go for my trial, I’m going to find a Divine Envoy too…”
Fu Shujin, the envoy of the God of Dreams, was still using the body of the Crown Prince of Zhuhuang. He first toasted everyone, then stated his purpose. “I have come this time to boldly ask for the medicinal herb agreed upon with the Lord God of Medicine, and to present this gift on behalf of the God of Dreams.”
He made a lifting motion, and a compass like dharma treasure floated in the air, emitting a faint floral scent.
“This is the ‘Mortal Realm Guide,’ a collection of coordinates for various worlds created by the God of Dreams using dreamscapes,” Fu Shujin said. “The treasure contains the coordinates for a total of 397 small worlds. We hope it will assist the God of Medicine.”
Liu Fenyun was slightly stunned. As she accepted the guide, she handed over the companion grass of the “Unfading Sorrow,” sighing, “Creating this must have been exhausting. No wonder she asked me to collect these herbs. When I return to the God Realm, I must thank her properly.”
After putting away the herb, Fu Shujin rose, bowed in thanks, and teleported away immediately, not staying for the delicacies.
Now, the wedding feast truly became a family dinner among old friends. They chatted about the past, pouring wine and sharing food in a warm and lively atmosphere.
Liu Fenyun drank quite a bit with her old friends. She thought herself “undefeatable by a thousand cups,” but today’s wine was strange, fragrant, sweet, and addictive. She had gulped down nearly half a jar before the God of War, unable to watch any longer, warned her: “Stop drinking. This is a potent wine we brewed specifically to deal with you…”
Before the God of War could finish, Liu Fenyun’s head hit the table with a loud thud.
By the time Liu Fenyun finally woke up, it was already past midnight.
She smelled a very strong scent of wine and felt a cool sensation on her forehead. Reaching up, she found a wet towel.
The surroundings were pitch black, but when Liu Fenyun took off the towel and sat up, two eerie blue glows suddenly lit up beside her.
Lianyi lit a spiritual lamp. Taking the wet towel from Liu Fenyun, she flipped it over and pressed it back onto her forehead.
“…I’m just drunk, not feverish.” Liu Fenyun took the towel off helplessly. As she spoke, her head throbbed with pain, forcing her to cover her forehead and lie back down.
Her divine body was hard to intoxicate. She didn’t know what ingredients the God of Fate and the others had used to brew a wine that could knock her out with just half a jar.
Lianyi sat beside her, her cat tail curling up leisurely and swaying near Liu Fenyun’s hand.
Liu Fenyun stroked the tail, and seeing it wrap around her wrist, she lightly patted the base of the tail. Brushing the fur, she said apologetically, “I’m sorry. I failed to give you a proper wedding night.”
Lianyi blinked, moved above her, and braced her palms on either side of Liu Fenyun’s body.
Her snowy hair tumbled down, falling across Liu Fenyun’s neck. With every small movement Lianyi made, the sensation was ticklish and tingling.
“Not at all. The night isn’t over yet,” Lianyi whispered into her ear with a low laugh.
