Marry First, Love Later With The White Cat Princess - Chapter 118
The wedding garments had arrived. With the assistance of the fox tribe’s maids, Liu Fenyun and Lian Yi finished dressing and examined themselves in the water mirror, finding nothing to complain about.
The fabric was of the finest Crimson Condensation Satin, soft, delicate and embroidered with lotus patterns. As they wore them, a faint scent of lotus lingered in the air. Liu Fenyun had worn wedding attire once before during her political marriage to the Kingdom of Zhuhuang compared to that, these robes were innovative in craftsmanship and style. They felt less solemn, appearing instead elegant and unique.
Liu Fenyun found no fault at all. Once she finished the fitting, she prepared to take it off and return it, but Lian Yi gently caught her sleeve.
“Do you have a Recording Pearl?” Lian Yi asked Tu Shan Shuo. “I want to capture how we look now as a memento.”
Tu Shan Shuo was puzzled. “I do, but you haven’t done your hair or makeup yet. If you want a memento, wouldn’t it look better to use the Recording Pearl during the grand ceremony?”
Lian Yi smiled. “It’s not about looking perfect. Anyway, I’ll have to trouble you.”
As they were distinguished guests, Tu Shan Shuo did not argue further. He ordered a maid to bring a Recording Pearl and personally captured the image of them in their wedding robes. He then placed the pearl into an exquisite small wooden box and solemnly handed it to Lian Yi. “There, the memento you asked for.”
Lian Yi, however, handed the box to Liu Fenyun. Only after Liu Fenyun tucked it away into her Medicine Garden space did Lian Yi slowly remove the wedding dress.
Since they were already there, Tu Shan Shuo wasn’t about to let them leave just after a fitting. He generously led them to the pre-arranged wedding venue for a “field rehearsal.”
“Why the sudden thought to use a Recording Pearl?” Liu Fenyun asked in surprise as they walked through the garden, where it was spring all year round.
“I just wanted a keepsake!” Lian Yi smiled, then hooked her arm through Liu Fenyun’s, letting out a soft sigh. “Actually, I don’t think the Heavenly Dao is willing to grant us its blessing. While we were away from the Divine Realm, it seems something significant changed there, didn’t it? Though I don’t know what that change is, the gods we were familiar with must have had a falling out with the rulers of the Divine Realm. Being in the lower realm, we can’t intervene, so we don’t know the details.”
“If it’s as Tu Shan Shuo says that we receive ‘Heavenly Protection’ during the ceremony, who do you think will actually grant that blessing, A-Yun? Will we truly be blessed, or will we encounter an accident?”
“So, it’s better to leave some beautiful memories behind now,” she continued while walking. “Perhaps on the day of the wedding, it will be time for us to leave this place.”
Liu Fenyun froze. Her recovered memories weren’t as complete as Lian Yi’s, and she had little interest in the affairs of the Divine Realm. She had never considered that such a thing might happen.
“Then should we… delay the wedding?” After a moment of hesitation, Liu Fenyun couldn’t help but suggest. “I remember you saying you wanted to go back to the Kingdom of Zhuhuang to take a look…”
“There’s no need for that. Let nature take its course.” Lian Yi shook her head. Hearing the slight tremble in Liu Fenyun’s voice, she smiled and squeezed her hand. “Why are you so nervous, A-Yun? Leaving early isn’t necessarily a bad thing. You still have the God of Time as a friend; in the future, if you want to return to this time to visit old friends, it’s not impossible.”
She spent some time softly coaxing Liu Fenyun. Since there was no one around and no surveillance artifacts, she simply pulled Liu Fenyun into the shadow of an ancient tree.
On the day of the grand wedding, the fox tribe dispatched a bridal procession early in the morning, arriving at Kongmeng City via flying artifacts to collect the couple.
The wedding feast was prepared by Kongmeng City, but the ceremony itself was held in Qingyan City. Since ancient times, the Tu Shan Nine Tailed Royalty had played the role of witness for all demons. Even the altar and the Marriage Platform used now were relics of the ancient past.
Liu Fenyun felt a bit awkward and stiff. She wasn’t used to makeup, but today was her wedding day with Lian Yi. Their images would be recorded in the Recording Pearl and kept beneath the fox tribe’s Marriage Platform, a once in a lifetime opportunity. No matter how uncomfortable she felt, she patiently allowed the makeup artist to apply various powders and pigments to her face.
The last wedding was forced, if she hadn’t married, she would have lost her life and her country. This time, it was the result of their mutual love.
Fu Yao was busy managing the banquet, but Qi Niao had come along to join the fun. She studied Liu Fenyun for a moment and laughed. “I must say, after putting on makeup, you’re absolutely enchanting. Chong Yun’s features were suited for dressing as a man, but you definitely aren’t.”
Liu Fenyun gave a bitter smile. “Don’t tease me with old stories anymore!”
As they chatted, a fox official brought over the red bridal veil and placed it on Liu Fenyun. She didn’t need anyone to support her, relying solely on the system’s guidance, she calmly left the dressing pavilion and walked toward the designated meeting point.
It was now the eleventh month of the demon realm’s calendar. She stood under the chilly sunlight, waiting briefly until she saw Lian Yi’s light point slowly approaching on the system map. A moment later, a warmth touched her palm. Lian Yi had taken her hand. Together, they stepped onto the red carpet and moved forward.
This path was very special. When grooms married, they had to be blindfolded; when brides married, both wore red veils. In short, their vision had to be obscured. If their hearts were truly in sync, they would not lose their way.
To Liu Fenyun, however… this was just a path. Even when loaded onto the system map, no fancy special effects appeared. Perhaps the path had no effect on gods, or perhaps it was merely a psychological suggestion.
She calmly led Lian Yi across the path to the Marriage Platform. They bowed to Heaven and Earth, then stood facing each other to lift one another’s veils.
Lian Yi’s makeup today was unlike anything before. Liu Fenyun thought she looked quite “demonic” if she were to seduce a mortal king, she’d likely succeed every single time. Yet, it wasn’t so overwhelming as to make Liu Fenyun uncomfortable. After setting the veil aside, Liu Fenyun couldn’t resist rubbing Lian Yi’s cat ears. The soft fur against her palm brought her a sense of peace.
“Let’s go up,” she said.
Lian Yi placed her hand in Liu Fenyun’s palm and they ascended the steps together. Petals drifted around them, and the fox tribe played auspicious music amidst endless blessings. Even if they didn’t have many relatives or friends in the mortal world, Tu Shan Shuo had found ways to create an incredibly lively wedding scene.
“It’s a pity this little fox doesn’t go to the modern world to open a matchmaking company,” even the system couldn’t help but remark.
Liu Fenyun was still thinking about Lian Yi’s warning from the other day. Hearing the system speak, she asked, “Are there any abnormal spiritual energy fluctuations in the surroundings or the sky?”
“None for now. Host, please proceed with the process with peace of mind,” the system replied. “As long as we are in Qingyan City, if there’s even a slight spiritual fluctuation from the upper realm, I will inform you immediately.”
After finishing the full wedding ritual, Liu Fenyun brushed the petals off Lian Yi’s clothes. She felt physically and mentally exhausted, vaguely recalling her marriage to the Kingdom of Zhuhuang. However, her heart was overflowing with happiness. As she stood with Lian Yi on the altar, listening to Tu Shan Shuo loudly chanting ancient songs and waiting for the “Heavenly Protection” to descend, she looked up at the sky, truly hoping for a blessing from above.
Just as Tu Shan Shuo finished his chant, the sky which had been clear a second ago, suddenly became covered in dense, dark clouds. An overwhelming sense of pressure descended from above.
All the fox tribe members present were shocked. They had participated in many demon weddings and had even touched a bit of divine aura when couples were granted “Heavenly Protection,” but they had never seen such an ominous celestial phenomenon!
“Young Master, what is happening?!” An anxious fox official rushed to Tu Shan Shuo’s side, shocked and panicked. “The wife of the City Lord of Kongmeng is also a god, but nothing like this happened back then…”
Tu Shan Shuo didn’t know what was happening either. He froze for two seconds before telling the official to stay calm and begin evacuating the fox tribe members.
Yin Sa had also come with Tu Shan Shuo. Seeing the two on the altar about to move, he shouted, “Do not move randomly!”
Liu Fenyun and Lian Yi looked at each other; neither saw a hint of fear in the other’s eyes. Liu Fenyun relied on her system, and Lian Yi relied on her sharp intuition. Both were prepared to leave at any moment. Hearing the warning, they stayed put, holding hands as they looked up at the churning thunderclouds.
Feeling the lightning spiritual energy gathering around them, Lian Yi asked curiously, “Can the Wuyuan Fan (Grudge-less Fan) and the Five Thunder Token absorb this energy?”
“Shall we try?” Liu Fenyun said as she summoned the Wuyuan Fan. She recited an incantation and fanned toward the sky. The lightning energy that was surging into the clouds suddenly reversed direction and hurtled toward them.
“Gather!” Liu Fenyun shouted. The peach blossom pattern on the fan suddenly bloomed, and a faint scent of peach blossoms scattered, wrapping around the aggressive lightning energy, gently soothing it and slowly guiding it into the fan.
“What is the God doing?!”
The fox tribe members who had retreated to the outskirts were terrified by Liu Fenyun’s actions.
“Why is the God absorbing the Lightning Tribulation?”
“Is that really a Lightning Tribulation?”
“If it’s not a tribulation, what is it?”
“But they’re just getting married! No one is even cultivating!”
Qi Niao, of course, saw this clearly. Though she had been outside the center, she now flew toward the altar, her hands quickly forming seals. Green incantations began to swirl around her.
She struck a beam of green light into the thunderclouds, stirring the lightning energy. Liu Fenyun looked at her, about to ask what was going on, when the system suddenly said: “Host! This is the ‘protection’ sent by the Heavenly Dao. It just looks scary. Quickly work with the God of Time to direct the Heavenly Thunder onto Lian Yi!”
Liu Fenyun was shocked, but she understood the system’s meaning instantly: The Heavenly Dao was supplementing the “Human Transformation Tribulation” for Lian Yi.
If an ordinary demon wanted to take human form in the Divine Realm, they had to undergo a tribulation. Back then, Lian Yi had taken the “Human Transformation Pill” co-developed by Liu Fenyun and Qi Niao and happened to transform. However, in the eyes of the Divine Realm’s laws, Lian Yi’s human form was unstable and required a baptism to be considered complete.
Having understood the Heavenly Dao’s intention, Liu Fenyun worked with Qi Niao to control the lightning energy. Meanwhile, she didn’t forget to comfort Lian Yi: “Don’t be afraid. This is your Human Transformation Tribulation. We will guide it into your body.”
Holding the Five Thunder Token, Lian Yi watched half-doubtingly as the two continued to merge spiritual energy into the thunderclouds. Before long, they actually refined the thunderclouds into a ball of golden light.
Plucking the golden sphere from the sky, Liu Fenyun held it in her palm and handed it to Lian Yi. “Take it. Just consume it.”
