Chapter 6: Rich Family Fei Fei · Big House 《Fu Li & Le Qingfei…
“Could it be that the person coming to pick you up today isn’t just me alone?”
Le Qingfei blinked his eyes. Just as he was thinking about how to answer, Xu Yi beside him tugged at him and asked, “Qingfei, who is this?”
“……”
Generally speaking, Le Qingfei rarely had moments where he didn’t know what to say, but right now it was not a general situation.
Le Qingfei stood blankly in the hallway under the falling snow. In front of him was his husband, and behind him was his friend who didn’t know he was married.
“I… he…”
Le Qingfei raised his hand, his index finger gesturing in the air for a long time, stammering, “Is my… un…”
“Speak properly.” Fu Li blinked slowly.
“Brother…” Le Qingfei glanced at Fu Li, then turned his head to look at Xu Yi. “Brother, he is my brother.”
“Brother? Qingfei, since when did you have a brother?”
“Recently, to be precise, ten days ago,” Fu Li replied with a smile on his behalf. “No blood relation, but we have a legal certificate.”
“……”
Le Qingfei’s ears turned red. Not daring to let Fu Li speak any further, he dragged him and walked out of the school, just in time to avoid the person who was carrying a bouquet of roses and searching for him all over the school behind them.
Fu Li heard someone shouting “Qingfei.” Just as he turned his head, he was pushed back by Le Qingfei standing on tiptoe.
“Go home, go home, aren’t we moving today? Let’s go, let’s go…”
Le Qingfei used the top of his head to push him forward, like a spoiled, clinging cat.
A cat is very unfamiliar with a new environment.
Fu Li led him up to the second floor, stopped in front of a door, and handed the authority of opening the door over to the cat.
Le Qingfei reached out to grip the doorknob, pushed it open, and saw a living room, with doors leading to other rooms on both sides.
“Will you sleep in the bedroom while I sleep on the sofa?” Le Qingfei said, “The sofa downstairs is fine too, it’s better if we sleep a bit further apart.”
“This is your room.”
“Mine?” Le Qingfei extended his index finger and drew a circle in the air. “This living room is also mine?”
Fu Li nodded.
His toes hesitated at the edge of the doorway. A broad, thick hand gripped his waist and gave a gentle push; Le Qingfei took his first step forward.
Le Qingfei walked with small steps on the warm floor, moving from the spacious living room to the even more spacious bedroom on the left side.
The golden sunset illuminated the originally black, white, and gray room very brightly, completely different from its initial coldness—perhaps because of the powder-pink bedding spread over the double bed, or perhaps because of Le Qingfei, who was running back and forth in the room like a little white dog.
So big.
Inside the bedroom, there was also a walk-in closet, a dressing room, and a bathroom… especially the walk-in closet, which could hang many, many clothes, but where did he have that many clothes to hang?
Le Qingfei looked at his suitcase with distress, and following the hand that lifted the suitcase, his eyes met Fu Li’s smiling gaze.
Oh no.
Le Qingfei’s face flushed red.
“Do you like it?”
“It’s alright, I don’t like it that much, because I am not that kind of vain person…”
“Of course,” Fu Li nodded, “I know this room is a bit small, you must be unsatisfied. When our new house is ready after the New Year, I hope you can like it even more.”
Le Qingfei borrowed the excuse to back down, let out a soft cough, put his hands behind his back, and paced around the room like an old, wise soul. “Fine, we’ll see when the time comes.”
“Okay, then you rest first.”
Fu Li put down the suitcase, closed the door, and couldn’t help but laugh out loud.
Having taken a bath, Le Qingfei discovered that the room was so warm, completely different from the attic which had no underfloor heating and where half of the central air conditioner’s vents were broken. Even wearing only loungewear, he wouldn’t feel cold.
Le Qingfei did a joyous backflip in excitement, jumped onto the fluffy and soft bed, and looked at the French moldings on the ceiling, still feeling like it was a dream.
“My room is so warm, my bed is so soft…”
Le Qingfei scrambled up, took out the photo of himself with his dad and mom from his suitcase, and just as he was about to place it on the bedside table, his hand suddenly froze.
“What if I make Fu Li angry? Just like how Aunt didn’t like me bringing small animals home, saying I made the bedroom filthy and then made me go live in the attic…”
Le Qingfei held the photo frame, thought seriously, and decided to go confirm one thing first.
In the second-floor hallway, Fu Li saw a strawberry giraffe standing on a stool.
Le Qingfei was wearing white loungewear printed with strawberries, standing on tiptoe holding a trekking pole, poking here and there on the ceiling. His hands were raised high, and his short top exposed a section of his fair, narrow waist, capturing the gaze of the person behind him.
Fu Li allowed himself to look for three more seconds before speaking up: “What are you doing?”
“Huh?” Le Qingfei turned his head to look at him, “I want to see if there is an attic here. I don’t want to live in such a good room only to go live in an attic later.”
Fu Li froze.
Le Qingfei bit his lip, “Actually, my temper isn’t good, it’s very easy for me to argue with people. This is your house, I…”
His body suddenly felt light.
Fu Li reached out to encircle Le Qingfei’s thighs, picking him down with a single hand. “I won’t let you live in an attic.”
Le Qingfei held the trekking pole with both hands, sitting in the crook of his arm, staring blankly at Fu Li.
Fu Li placed him onto the ground, acting as if nothing had just happened. “The lawyer you asked me to find has already arrived downstairs.”
“Ah, oh, okay.”
Le Qingfei slowly withdrew his eyes from Fu Li’s departing back as he turned to leave, went back to his room, grabbed the things he had just written, and ran downstairs.
In the living room, the lawyer held a pink notebook and pushed up his glasses.
He glanced at his boss, who was standing to one side drinking coffee, then turned to Le Qingfei beside him whose eyes were full of anticipation, and said with a beaming smile, “It is written in great detail. I am very honored to become the ‘witness’ of this contract.”
The lawyer signed his name next to a drawn strawberry flower.
Le Qingfei’s 《Fu Li & Le Qingfei Post-Marriage Peaceful Coexistence Friendly Treaty 🤝》 held no legal validity whatsoever; its only impact was to damage the reputations of the signing lawyer and Fu Li.
After sending the lawyer off, Le Qingfei worried that Fu Li’s understanding of his handwritten treaty might not be thorough enough. He pulled him down to sit on the sofa, analyzing it for him line by line.
“Outside, you cannot call me wife. We are brothers.”
“Mm, so I can call you that at home?”
Le Qingfei froze for a moment, then shook his head, “You can’t either.”
“Oh, you didn’t write that down.” Fu Li shrugged.
Le Qingfei scratched his head, picked up the pen, drew an arrow pulling to the side, and added: Cannot call Le Qingfei wife at home either.
“There, all done.”
“Then can I call you Madame?” Fu Li rested his elbow on the back of the sofa, supporting his temple. “Lady, darling, baby, honey…”
“Slow down, slow down,” Le Qingfei lay prone on the sofa, writing furiously, “I’m about to run out of space to write.”
Fu Li held back a laugh.
Suddenly, Le Qingfei stopped his pen, lifting his head to stare at him without blinking.
Just when Fu Li thought his act of watching a puppy chase its own tail had been discovered, Le Qingfei simply slapped his own head, realizing with a start, “Oh, I can write it on sticky notes! Wait for me to go get them.”
“No need,” Fu Li reached out to pull him to his side, “I already understand what you mean. Next line.”
Le Qingfei sat cross-legged sideways on the sofa, “Then don’t you forget it, now let’s continue to the next line…”
Fu Li looked at Le Qingfei’s earnest eyelashes, which would flutter whenever he raised his eyes to confirm with him, like a little butterfly had landed on his face. His lips were like flowers, the pink tip of his tongue like a pistil, and even his earlobe, half-hidden by his fluffy brown hair, was cute.
How could Le Qingfei be this cute?
“Are you even listening to me talk?” Le Qingfei knitted his brows, his lips pursing together, looking at him unhappily. “You just keep going ‘mm-hmm, mm-hmm’, are you actually listening seriously or not.”
“I am.”
Looking at the person who was cute even when angry, Fu Li repeated his words back to him without altering a single thing.
Le Qingfei was very satisfied with his earnestness, holding the notebook in one hand and clutching the pen in the other. “That’s right, neither of us should interfere with the other. I have someone I like, and you can have someone you like too, but you cannot bring them home.”
Le Qingfei waved his hand, “Because it will be very embarrassing, I wouldn’t know how to introduce myself.”
“Introduce yourself?”
“Yeah,” Le Qingfei stood up, acting it out on the spot as he said it, raising his hand to greet the empty air, “Hi, hello, I am Fu Li’s wife, but we don’t have any feelings, blessings to you both.”
Le Qingfei spread his hands, “That would be so strange.”
Fu Li laughed, “Rest assured, you will never see me bring anyone else home, and you are not allowed to pre-imagine or arrange non-existent third parties and romantic links for me either.”
“What if there’s a ‘what if’?”
“There is no ‘what if’,” Fu Li looked at him, “I will maintain a safe distance from people to avoid so-called scandals. But if you have any misunderstandings, you must tell me, and I will definitely give you a satisfying answer.”
Le Qingfei: “Do I have to do this too?”
Although he didn’t understand why Fu Li would say this, and also disliked how Fu Li always spoke in such a formal, bookish manner, since it was a treaty, it was something both parties had to fulfill.
Fu Li thought about it, then shook his head.
He himself possessed a face identical to Le Qingfei’s first love, yet even that hadn’t managed to make Le Qingfei fall for him; he didn’t believe any other man could achieve it.
“Rather than those mentioned above, I hope even more that you can promise me these three things.”
“First, you must come home at night, no staying out overnight; second, the money I give you must be used, no economizing; third, on occasions that require us to be an affectionate married couple, you need to cooperate.”
Le Qingfei blinked, “Is that all?”
Fu Li nodded.
“Then, if… I’m just saying if, I fail to do them, will you make me go sleep in the attic?”
“No,” Fu Li’s brow knitted slightly, his tone deepening, “No matter what happens, I will never let you go sleep in the attic.”
Le Qingfei pushed the notebook and pen in his hand forward, “Then, you write this sentence down, okay?”
Fu Li smiled and took the pen, imitating Le Qingfei’s round, plump handwriting at the end of the page, writing:
[Fu Li will forever and ever never let Le Qingfei sleep in the attic.]
As the sky gradually darkened, Le Qingfei, having met the ten servants, four drivers, and eight bodyguards on duty at home today, fell asleep curled up at the foot of the bed. Pressed under his arm was the notebook recording their names, even annotated with each person’s appearance characteristics.
Fu Li picked up the notebook and took a glance:
[……Turns out there is actually a servant auntie specialized in washing dishes (Aunt Lan), I won’t have to wash dishes in the future anymore.]
Fu Li lowered his eyes, slowly closed the notebook, carried the person back into the blankets, took off his rubber band and hair clip, and covered him well with the quilt.
He gently placed the photo of Le Qingfei with his parents from beside the pillow onto the nightstand, pinched his face again, and only then stood up to leave, softly closing the bedroom door.
The next morning, Le Qingfei was woken up by the sunlight hitting his eyelids.
The slanted window of the attic was very small, and there had never been so much sunlight shining in like this before; Le Qingfei liked it very much.
He jumped off the bed and leaned by the floor-to-ceiling window.
“So beautiful, so this is what Jinggang looks like.” Le Qingfei’s forehead pressed against the glass, his eyes wide open, looking at the bustling CBD beneath his feet. “If only there were an ocean.”
Mmh, Le Qingfei, oh Le Qingfei, you are already very vain now, you cannot be greedy anymore.
Le Qingfei judged himself for a moment, then happily began an unprecedented vacation.
He didn’t have to go to school, the final exam results weren’t out yet, and waking up late wouldn’t result in being scolded… there was no happier matter than this.
Well, if only there wasn’t a statue sitting in the living room.
Le Qingfei looked at the man sitting in the living room reading documents, wondering why he hadn’t gone to work. When Fu Li lifted his head intending to greet him, Le Qingfei quickly fled with a pile of snacks, failing to notice that he had even dropped a packet of jelly.
[Xu Yi]: Qingfei, are you going on this skiing trip?
Just back in his room, before he could reply to his friend’s message, his phone rang first.
“Sister…”
“Le Qingfei, you got married?!”
Le Qingfei was sitting cross-legged on the carpet, in the middle of assembling the Lego Fu Li had bought for him. With a “crack,” it completely fell apart.
“Did those two old bastards force you?”
“No, of course not,” Le Qingfei jumped up, “I did it willingly…”
He had no time to think about how Shi Yun had found out, but he absolutely could not let his sister, who could change nothing anyway, worry about him.
“We are true love, yes, true love… My husband and I fell in love at first sight, I love him to bits, that’s why we got married…!”
After finishing, the person on the other end of the line fell into silence.
Le Qingfei, however, heard some sound behind him. Turning around, his love-at-first-sight husband was standing by the door, holding a packet of strawberry jelly in his hand.
