Chapter 5: The Annoying Man · 80% “If you want to scold someone, scold my husb…
“……”
Le Qingfei puffed out his cheeks, his mouth still stained with steak sauce, holding a fork, staring blankly at Fu Li.
Above the black marble dining table hung a bright and soft dining lamp. As the light fell, Fu Li leaned forward, resting his chin on one hand, looking at Le Qingfei with a smile. The corners of his eyes behind his lenses were slightly curved up.
“Qingfei, move in and live with me.”
“No.”
The rejection was clean and agile.
After saying this, Le Qingfei continued to bury his head and eat in big mouthfuls, not feeling embarrassed in the slightest—the one who got rejected wasn’t me, why should I be embarrassed?
Eating the last piece of broccoli in the plate dipped in sauce, Le Qingfei packed up his plate and water cup, stood up, and carried them toward the kitchen.
Fu Li spoke up to stop him: “What are you doing?”
“Washing dishes.”
“Washing dishes?”
Le Qingfei didn’t understand why Fu Li looked so surprised. “Don’t tell me… the plates in your house are disposable?”
Fu Li’s brow knitted, and he said nothing.
Le Qingfei withdrew his foot that had stepped out, his eyes widening. “You’re not making me wash your dishes too, are you?”
The two stared at each other for a moment, and Le Qingfei was the first to make a move.
“Alright, alright,” he curled his lips, picking up Fu Li’s plate, “You cooked, so it’s reasonable for me to wash the dishes.”
The sound of running water echoed.
Fu Li finally regained his train of thought and walked to Le Qingfei’s side. “Let me do it.”
“Huh?” Le Qingfei didn’t push back either. “Then I’ll dry the dishes.”
A servant came to tidy up the kitchen, but before getting close, they were stopped by Fu Li’s gaze and slowly retreated back to the West Wing behind the elevator.
Le Qingfei carefully held up the bowls and dishes. “Wow, these are even more beautiful than the ones my aunt collects. They can’t use a dishwasher, and the cloths for washing and drying have to be selected very carefully. I know a dishcloth detergent that works really well…”
While carefully wiping, Le Qingfei enthusiastically recommended it, but the man beside him didn’t utter a single word.
Gradually, Le Qingfei consciously shut his mouth as well.
Only Yan Song wouldn’t think I talk too much.
He thought to himself secretly, and after clearing the dining table, he went to put on his shoes.
“I’ll drive you back,” Fu Li said.
Le Qingfei was tying his canvas shoe laces and wanted to refuse, but Fu Li had already picked up his school bag and stood still in front of the elevator, giving him no opportunity.
In the car, Le Qingfei held his phone, replying to his older sister’s messages.
[Long-Legged Fei Bunny]: I’ve been doing very well lately, I haven’t done anything bad. [Line Puppy spinning GIF]
Perhaps due to growing up together and their mutual understanding, his sister could detect his abnormality even across the entire Pacific Ocean.
Le Qingfei guiltily touched his hair tuft.
Getting out of the car, the driver opened the car door for Fu Li, but Le Qingfei had already jumped out of the car. However, his school bag was still snatched away by Fu Li first, as if Fu Li was afraid he would run away.
“I’ll carry it myself, give it back to me…”
Le Qingfei reached out to grab it, but Fu Li held the bag up high, walking up the villa stairs with his eyes fixed straight ahead.
Blame it on the fact that jumping up would look very embarrassing, Le Qingfei could only grab his arm and push him. “Fu Li…!”
Fu Li let him push, stopped his pace, and raised an eyebrow. “This is the first time you’ve called my name.”
“You…”
The main door of the villa was pulled open by a servant, and a middle-aged woman draped in a purple shawl appeared in front of them.
Fu Li was pushed to the side of the stairs, and he could only see Le Qingfei, after a brief daze, letting go of his hand as if shocked by electricity. He stood still, putting his hands behind his back, lowering his head like a child who had done something wrong.
The woman’s sharp voice came over.
“Yo, our young master still knows how to come home? Didn’t they say that once married, one should move out? How come you’re still…”
A tall shadow shrouded over, pressing onto Kang Wei’s face, causing her to abruptly stop her words.
“Fu, President Fu?” Kang Wei instantly changed her face, beaming with joy. “Oh my, so Qingfei was with you. Qingfei really is inconsiderate, you are so busy, yet he bothers you so late, and troubles you to personally send him back.”
Le Qingfei’s eyes widened.
Even the Rottweiler raised next door was scolded into depression for three days by his aunt; when had she ever been like this?
But, it seemed his uncle was also very afraid of Fu Li.
Le Qingfei swallowed back his words of rebuttal, and suddenly hugged Fu Li’s arm. “Husband took me out to play. If you want to scold someone, just scold my husband, right, husband?”
Looking at Kang Wei’s face turning green and white alternately, Le Qingfei finally understood what it meant to “borrow the tiger’s ferocity as a fox.” He couldn’t help but start wagging his tail, and his whole body clung tightly to Fu Li.
Fu Li’s pupils behind his lenses contracted slightly, taking three seconds to process this information.
He switched the school bag to his left hand, and raised his hand to clasp Le Qingfei’s shoulder. “Let’s go, wife, let’s go upstairs and pack your things.”
Le Qingfei’s whole body went numb. Before he could say anything, he was lightly held by Fu Li and walked forward.
“What are you doing, let go of me…”
“You called me ‘husband’, and I called you ‘wife’, this sounds very reasonable.” Fu Li’s large hand applied a little force, easily capturing the struggling person. “She is still watching us downstairs.”
Le Qingfei wanted to look back, but his face was gently hooked back by Fu Li’s extended finger.
“Do you look forward to living with this kind of person more?”
Fu Li leaned down close to his ear, and continued to persuade softly: “Qingfei, move in and live with me.”
The person in his arms quieted down a bit.
“Qingfei, please give me a chance, and try things out with me, okay?”
“Stop shouting, it’s very annoying.”
Le Qingfei shook off his hand, rubbed his ear that had been turned red, and fled.
Downstairs, after Fu Li disappeared behind the stairs, Kang Wei got even angrier. Just then, Le Wangzong came back, and the two had a huge argument, finally pointing their spearheads at Fu Li and Le Qingfei’s marriage.
“I really don’t know what you were thinking?”
Kang Wei pointed at Le Wangzong’s nose and cursed loudly: “To fulfill the marriage contract, it should have been our daughter marrying into the Fu family. Now, that little rabbit brat Le Qingfei got to take advantage of it instead.”
“What do you know? What they want is for Fu Li to marry a man. Without children, what will he use to fight with the Second Young Master Fu for the family property?”
Only then did Kang Wei react, her attitude changing drastically, asking him if he had already discussed it with Second Young Master Fu.
Le Wangzong made a shushing gesture and pointed upstairs.
Upstairs, Le Qingfei was negotiating with Fu Li, who was inspecting his room.
“Do we really have to live together?”
Fu Li did not answer immediately, looking at Le Qingfei’s bedroom very carefully.
The bedroom was bright and clean, the bedding and desktop were all neat, and there was a walk-in closet. It wasn’t too excellent, but it wasn’t considered bad either.
Only, Feifei’s room couldn’t possibly not even have a single jelly.
Fu Li took off his gloves, held them in his hand, and was about to walk toward the balcony. Suddenly, with a “thud,” Le Qingfei pounced onto the white chest of drawers.
“Don’t look at me.”
Le Qingfei used his body to press down on that bouquet of flowers Fu Li had sent him.
Clearly, he felt that throwing away someone’s kind intentions wasn’t good, but who told him to send a picture of a trash can to Fu Li before? If it was discovered to still be here, wouldn’t it be very embarrassing?
Fu Li was willing to cooperate, and after obtaining permission, walked toward the closet.
“Is my coat here?”
“Ah? Oh, I put it in the original wardrobe, wait for me to go get it.”
Fu Li followed Le Qingfei up the stairs leading to the fourth-floor attic.
A slanted roof. He tilted his head slightly so that he wouldn’t hit the ceiling that was barely two meters high, walked into the brown wooden door, and could see to the end of the small room at a single glance.
An iron-frame single bed, a wardrobe, and two tables—the furniture was pitifully scarce, and there wasn’t even a carpet laid down. Fu Li looked down at the wooden floor beneath his feet; there wasn’t even underfloor heating.
This was Feifei’s real room.
The desk by the window was piled with many things—food, toys, and a half-finished Lego set, scattered and messy, with the edges slightly turned white, looking as though it had been repeatedly assembled and disassembled many times.
It was the Harry Potter Advent Calendar released the Christmas before last.
Fu Li put down the instruction manual, picked up a borrowed old comic book from the bookstore next to it, the pages slightly curled. When flipped open, a homemade ginkgo leaf bookmark fell out; extending his hand, the butterfly, thin as a cicada’s wing, landed on his palm.
“Here, for you.”
Le Qingfei handed the washed coat to him. “I didn’t know what you use for your clothes, so I secretly used my aunt’s detergents, they are all the best.”
Fu Li put the bookmark back to its original place and closed the comic book. “Pack your things right now, and come home with me.”
“What?”
“Mm, or you don’t have to pack either,” Fu Li sent a text message, “Buying new ones is also not bad.”
Le Qingfei was just about to argue back, when Fu Li spoke up again: “This is not a discussion.”
“Is it, a notice?”
Perhaps because of Le Qingfei’s tentative tone, or his timid gaze, Fu Li laughed out loud, “Yes, it’s a notice.”
In Le Qingfei’s mind appeared the duplex top-floor grand house he had just visited, the big beef he had eaten… turning his head, he looked again at his own room, and the sound of his aunt scolding the servant coming through the uninsulated floorboards…
“I won’t hurt you.”
Fu Li looked at him, his gaze even gentler than his tone, so gentle that Le Qingfei fell into a brief daze once again.
The attic at night didn’t have even a sliver of wind.
Fu Li turned his face away, not daring to look into Le Qingfei’s eyes anymore, and said in a relaxed tone: “After all, the Long-Legged Flying Bunny who can kick a person flying on the road would also find beating me up very easy.”
Le Qingfei: “How do you know my ID?”
Fu Li shrugged, “Because I apply to become your friend every single day.”
This made Le Qingfei think of Fu Li’s strange confession again—he was simply a confession maniac.
Le Qingfei picked up the Rubik’s cube on the table, sat his butt down on the floor cushion, and turned his back around. “Let’s talk about moving a few days later, I… am so busy during this period, I’m preparing for final exams.”
“Preparing for final exams?”
“Uh-huh, I study very seriously,” Le Qingfei lowered his head, pinching the little braid on top of his head, “Don’t bother me.”
Fu Li smiled, nodded, “Okay, then when you finish your exams on Wednesday, I’ll come pick you up.”
“Mmh… Huh? How do you know I finish my exams on Wednesday?”
“As your partner, I—”
Reaching out to catch the little rabbit Rubik’s cube thrown at him, Fu Li smiled, closed the door, and left.
At the main door of the villa, Le Wangzong escorted Fu Li to the side of the car.
“President Fu manages myriad affairs daily, yet today you still spared time to send Qingfei home. He is usually used to being mischievous, did he cause any trouble for President Fu?”
Fu Li lowered his eyes, looking at the Rubik’s cube in his hand.
Just as Le Wangzong was feeling embarrassed, Fu Li’s assistant walked over. “Boss, the police station side already has news, administrative detention or a criminal case.”
“He has final exams these few days, don’t disturb him, let the lawyers handle it according to the rules.” Fu Li began to turn the Rubik’s cube. “Also, didn’t that guy say how miserably he was beaten by Feifei? Find someone to hold him down, and according to the forged injury assessment he made, beat him up exactly the same way without altering a thing.”
Le Wangzong froze on the spot.
“President Fu, did Qingfei cause some trouble at school again?”
Fu Li shook his head, “He is very good, it’s just that some blind, dirty things have entangled themselves with him. Like you and your wife.”
“Wh-what?”
Le Wangzong opened his mouth wide, really unable to think that Fu Li would suddenly launch an attack, and hurriedly explained: “President Fu, there might be some misunderstanding in this, I…”
“I have always had no patience for stupid people, and you are a fool who is so stupid that you can’t see the situation clearly, still selling your life for the Zou family even now.”
Fu Li raised his eyes, “I have no objection to you seeking your own death, but don’t come out to be an eyesore.”
Le Wangzong was dumbstruck.
For the past half year, inside the Fu Group, among partners, and in the mouths of the media, Fu Li had been a “perfect successor” in whom not a single flaw could be found. Even when facing reporters’ trick questions and radical shareholders’ curses, he had always been gentle and polite. How could he now…
Fu Li restored the last piece of the Rubik’s cube. “On Wednesday I will come to pick Feifei home. These few days, you guys, get out.”
At this moment, Kang Wei walked out with a smile to see the guest off, and Le Wangzong hurriedly pulled her back.
Unexpectedly, Fu Li adjusted his gold-rimmed glasses, restored his usual elegant and easygoing appearance, and smiled: “Taking care of Qingfei’s matters will be temporarily entrusted to you two. Goodbye.”
The taillights of the car disappeared into the night.
“Oh my, look how great he is, so mature, stable, and… why are you pulling me?” Kang Wei was dragged inside by Le Wangzong, whose head was covered in cold sweat. “Leave? I just came back, and that little rabbit brat Le Qingfei…”
“Say a few less words, will you!”
Le Qingfei was originally still nervous, thinking his aunt would definitely argue again upon returning, but strangely, his uncle and aunt flew away overnight last night.
Le Qingfei was incredibly happy, but the final exams arrived.
“The exams are so hard, I don’t know how to do any of them, don’t know how to do any of them…”
Le Qingfei’s canvas bag hung on his neck, his face looking sorrowful, his footsteps floating, “Were those really taught in class? How come I don’t know any of them at all!”
Xu Yi was afraid he would fall, so he supported him, “You were sleeping through class, of course you don’t know how.”
Le Qingfei felt deeply pained, “Why can’t knowledge be poured directly into my brain?”
A blue figure holding a bouquet of roses and standing on tiptoe peering around appeared in his line of sight.
The corner of Le Qingfei’s mouth twitched with disgust, and he pulled Xu Yi to run. The latter hadn’t reacted yet and asked, “What’s wrong, who are you hiding from?”
“Who else could it be… Ugh!”
Le Qingfei’s head bumped into a solid chest, and a familiar male voice came from above his head.
“Who?”
Fu Li wore a camel-colored overcoat, lowering his eyes to look at Le Qingfei’s strawberry hair clip, his tone curious, “Could it be that the person coming to pick you up today isn’t just me alone?”
