Chapter 27: Desires of Sin, Affection of Love — A Touch Scarcely Perceptible
Fu Li did not knock on the door; he pushed open the door to Le Qingfei’s bedroom.
He walked straight toward the walk-in closet. Only after confirming that none of Le Qingfei’s clothes and suitcases were missing did he go to look for the person.
“Feifei?”
“I’m in here.”
Le Qingfei’s voice came from the bathroom.
Fu Li startled slightly, frowning as he walked in.
Le Qingfei was sitting in the bathtub, his wet hair draped backward, falling onto his foam-covered shoulders.
Fu Li’s chest heaved heavily. “When Fu Qian came to find you, you were like this too.”
“Ah?” Le Qingfei shook his head. “No, Fu Qian and I ran into each other downstairs.”
Fu Li: “I saw him going downstairs just now.”
Le Qingfei thought about it. “He said he had something to talk to me about, so I brought him up, but we were in the living room. How could I talk to him inside the bathroom?”
Fu Li lowered his eyes slightly. “What did he say to you?”
Fu Li knew very well that even if Fu Qian had no conflict of interest with him, based purely on the fact that Fu Qian liked Le Qingfei, Fu Qian would definitely tell Le Qingfei the words overheard on the terrace.
“A convenient matter,” “just for the sake of reputation,” “divorce compensation.”
These were words he had spoken with his own mouth; they were undeniable. He didn’t dare to imagine Le Qingfei’s heartbreak and disappointment. If Le Qingfei shed tears, how should he comfort him?
“Fu Li,” Le Qingfei said, hugging his knees which were pulled together. “Thank you.”
What?
Fu Li raised his head blankly.
Le Qingfei’s knees happened to break the surface of the water. Wrapped in white foam, they looked like smooth stones repeatedly caressed by the ocean tide.
Le Qingfei smiled. “Fu Qian said you are helping me investigate the matter regarding my dad and mom. Although I don’t know what it is or what the result will be, I still thank you.”
Under the light, the wet top of Le Qingfei’s head, his forehead, the tip of his nose, and his shoulders all emitted a faint halo, looking like an angel highlighted with bright tones in an oil painting.
“Feifei…”
Fu Li let out a heavy breath. He walked over, disregarding everything else, and tightly embraced Le Qingfei.
In those brief few minutes, he had thought of many reactions Le Qingfei might have.
He had also held onto a shred of hope: What if? What if Feifei believes in him.
Yet from the bottom of his heart, he knew this was merely self-consolation. However, it seemed he had truly received the pity of heaven, allowing those forced, reckless words to be forgiven.
“Feifei,” Fu Li rubbed against his cheek. “Thank you for believing in me.”
The person in his arms froze for a scarcely perceptible moment.
Fu Li’s brain was filled with the joy of surviving a disaster; he too could make mistakes, and he too could overlook things.
He released Le Qingfei, gently tucked the wet hair sticking to his cheek behind his ear, kissed his forehead, and prepared to leave.
“Are you talking about the matter of divorce?”
The tall man instantly froze rigid on the spot. Holding the doorknob, Fu Li slowly turned around and looked at the person in the bathtub.
Le Qingfei still maintained that same posture, his eyes still clear and transparent. “It’s fine. If you want a divorce, just tell me.”
In an instant, after freezing rigid, Fu Li’s body surged through by suddenly boiling blood, causing his limbs to go numb.
“What did you say?”
Le Qingfei lowered his head, searching for the rubber duckies inside the foam. “It’s just what you said. I believe you. Whenever we divorce, just tell me. Your compensation—I understand that too, and I will accept it.”
Fu Li’s Adam’s apple rolled, and his hand holding the doorknob tightened. “I will not divorce you.”
Le Qingfei: “Oh.”
Fu Li looked at Le Qingfei, who had already found the third rubber duck, and asked, “Divorce, or no divorce—does it make no difference to you?”
Le Qingfei released the fingers pinching the rubber duck, and a “squeak” sound rang out in the awkwardly atmospheric bathroom.
Le Qingfei raised his head to meet Fu Li’s gaze. “I don’t know. I’ll listen to whatever you say.”
Marriage, divorce—neither is within my control, right? Why is Fu Li asking me?
The mirror had fogged up, leaving only the blurry silhouette of the person by the door.
Fu Li nodded. “Okay, I understand.”
“Fu Li,” Le Qingfei called out to him. “Are you unhappy?”
After a brief daze, just like that time in the elevator, Fu Li smiled slightly and said no.
The bathroom door slowly closed.
Le Qingfei sat in the bathtub, his hands empty. The rubber duck had floated away at some point. Feeling a bit sad, he lowered his head to look for it, but instead saw his own aching chest.
“So strange.”
Le Qingfei raised his hand and rubbed his throbbing left chest. “Uncomfortable.”
Why?
The rubber duck was pushed out by the water current of the jacuzzi bathtub. Le Qingfei’s attention was diverted, and he submerged into the bathtub along with the little duck.
…
The Evening of the 20th Birthday
It rained tonight.
Such a gentle spring rain, yet it could wash down the last remaining old leaves from the previous year—incredible.
Looking at Le Qingfei sitting on the carpet happily unwrapping gifts, Fu Li turned his head away and took a deep breath.
He turned back with a smile, took the difficult-to-untie bow from Le Qingfei’s hands, and untied it for him in a few moves. His tone was gentle, just as usual. “Who sent this?”
“Let me see… Kong Linxu.”
Le Qingfei picked up the card inside and scanned it casually. It was filled with confessions of love he had heard and seen many times before, so he placed it aside at will.
“Speaking of which, I didn’t even run into him tonight… Oh wait, we saw each other when we were handing out cake, and he even said happy birthday to me… Wow, it’s the first edition of The Illustrated Guide to Migratory Birds of South Bay!”
Le Qingfei wiped his hands, eagerly flipping open the beautifully drawn book while introducing to Fu Li that the author of this book was a very amazing and popular senior from Hadelyn Public School.
“……I wonder if the senior’s health has gotten any better, let me tell you… what’s wrong with you?”
Le Qingfei looked at Fu Li. Perhaps because he was slightly backlit, Fu Li’s already sharp facial features looked even sharper than usual, as if… he was angry.
However, Le Qingfei had never seen Fu Li angry before.
Fu Li also wanted to ask himself what was wrong with him.
He was clearly Le Qingfei’s husband, yet he didn’t even have the standing to tell him to throw away that card filled with disgusting words.
Le Qingfei didn’t care; he didn’t even care about this marriage, so how could he care about his so-called mood.
Fu Li once again recognized his own hypocrisy.
He had clearly said before that he didn’t need Le Qingfei’s response, yet he would still feel frustrated by it when he truly experienced the neglect and lack of care.
He loved Le Qingfei’s honesty so much, yet now it was this very “honesty” that tore through his hypocrisy.
He was a hypocritical person to begin with.
Fu Li raised his arms to hug Le Qingfei, gently rubbing the top of his head. “Happy birthday.”
—Hypocritical and cowardly.
Fu Li received a work call and left the room.
Le Qingfei continued unwrapping the remaining gifts, but gradually, perhaps because the utility knife had grown dull, his speed slowed down.
On the floor sat a rotating carousel wooden box, glowing with a warm orange light. Accompanied by music, the slowly turning wooden horses cast mottled, changing shadows on the walls and ceiling.
Le Qingfei watched blankly for a while. That uncomfortable feeling in his chest disappeared, and he continued unwrapping gifts.
At night, Fu Li pushed open his bedroom door.
Pinching the blanket, Le Qingfei watched Fu Li approach. A warm hand pressed against his forehead, followed by Fu Li’s familiar kiss.
On the forehead.
Le Qingfei opened his closed eyes, looking at him in confusion.
“Rest early,” Fu Li gently stroked his face. “You’ve worked hard today, little birthday boy.”
Le Qingfei smiled and nodded. “Mm, Fu Li should rest early too.”
Once the person left, Le Qingfei stared at the ceiling, wondering what he was thinking about.
After a while, he flipped over to lie prone on the bedding, picking up the photograph of his father and mother on the nightstand.
In the photo, the six-year-old Le Qingfei sat in his father’s arms, his right arm looping around his father’s neck, his left hand holding his mother’s, under… he couldn’t remember, just a very ordinary cherry blossom tree in Berlin.
“Dad, Mom, I am 20 years old today. You know that, right?
“Fu Li threw such a grand party for me, even more incredible than the ones Dad and Mom used to throw for me. If only you were here, you would like this party too… and you would like Fu Li too.”
Le Qingfei kicked up his legs, talking about whatever came to mind as if writing a diary.
“Today I received a book I really wanted, sent by Kong Linxu. Oh, he is a classmate of mine. But when I was sharing this book with Fu Li, he seemed unhappy…
“No, he was just a bit unhappy tonight, but I don’t know why.
“Why is that? Is it because there are many worries after growing up? Even someone as amazing as Fu Li can be unhappy.”
Le Qingfei lay down flat, lowering his eyes, thinking about his own feelings for a long time. “I don’t want him to be unhappy.”
“I don’t want Fu Li to be unhappy.”
Before falling asleep, he changed his wish with the kind birthday angel.
He hoped Dad and Mom would live happily in heaven;
He hoped Yan Song would live happily anywhere;
He hoped the twenty-year-old Le Qingfei could live happily;
“Dad and Mom happy… Yan Song happy…” Le Qingfei rolled over while holding the photo. “May the unhappy Fu Li be happy too.”
The moonlight draped over Le Qingfei’s body like a lightweight gauze, like the gentle palms of his parents, dispersing the uneasiness, anxiety, and sadness he had failed to understand.
…
The Next Morning & The Sudden Trip to New York
The next morning, while putting on his watch, Fu Li knocked on Le Qingfei’s bedroom door.
“Feifei, it’s time to get up. Isn’t there an Adoption Week event today?”
Le Qingfei was not in the bedroom; he had risen very early and made a sumptuous breakfast.
Fig jam croissants, blueberry jam puff pastry apple pies, strawberry jam toast; jam yogurt cups, jam roasted pears, jam cheese rolls…
Fu Li fell into deep thought, his hand instinctively touching his abs, calculating how long he would have to work out to fully consume all of this if he ate it all.
Fu Li’s second assistant was also there. She had come with the driver to pick up Fu Li as usual, and was warmly invited inside by Le Qingfei to eat breakfast together.
Seeing this table full of blood sugar-exploding items, she almost fainted. She had already pulled out her phone; with just one glance from the boss, she would immediately receive an emergency “call” to rescue him away.
But unexpectedly, Fu Li sat down.
The second assistant looked as if she had seen a ghost.
Holding her chest, she watched in horror as her boss—who woke up at five every morning to work out—tasted every single dish on the table and offered non-repetitive praises for each one.
She looked down into her bag, wanting to find a bottle of holy water for an exorcism.
But fearing even more that the boss’s wife—who said “eating sweets makes you happy”—would pull her into eating together, she quickly ran away.
Sitting back in the passenger seat, the second assistant began re-checking the boss’s itinerary for today. She didn’t understand why the boss would send a message at four in the morning saying he was temporarily going to New York.
Not accompanying his beautiful wife who just turned twenty?
Strange.
Fu Li and Le Qingfei got into the car.
Fu Li lowered his head to fasten his seatbelt, while Le Qingfei handed the packed breakfast to the two people in the front row. “The portion isn’t large, but if you take a bite when you’re very hungry, you definitely won’t feel dizzy.”
Well, of course, your blood sugar will either be low or high.
Fu Li smiled slightly. He reached out to take off Le Qingfei’s coat and hat, folding them neatly.
The Spring Adoption Week event at the Pada Cabin started today. Fu Li had already sent people to arrange everything and organize the staff, so he wasn’t worried.
Le Qingfei was also exceptionally excited, like a little sparrow that had just woken up and was clamoring about being hungry.
“……The person in charge of the stray dog base contacted us this time saying they want to participate together. Fortunately, the venue you helped me prepare is large enough, Fu Li, otherwise it definitely wouldn’t work out. Just imagine—”
Le Qingfei began describing a chaotic battle between cats and dogs with vivid expressions. Fu Li sat beside him, watching him tenderly, nodding in response from time to time.
Lucas and the assistant in the front row—one driving, one handling emails—couldn’t help but laugh along as they listened.
The black Rolls-Royce traveled down Magnolia Avenue.
Fu Li spoke in a low voice with the assistant in the passenger seat about work, while Le Qingfei leaned against the car window, looking at the magnolia flowers outside.
Fu Li looked at the document in his hand, picked up the hat with his right hand, and placed it on top of Le Qingfei’s head. Fearing it would be blown away, his fingers rested on top of his head like that, pressing lightly. “Compress the time of this meeting to within half an hour. How can a bunch of useless people have so much to say… hmm?”
Fu Li moved his eyes away from the document and looked at the person beside him. “Feifei, what did you say?”
Le Qingfei shook his head and said nothing.
Fu Li pinched his ear and continued adjusting the work arrangements.
The car was about to arrive at the Adoption Week event location. Le Qingfei turned around and bounced into Fu Li’s embrace, saying in a small voice, “I just said, you are so fierce when you work.”
Looking at Le Qingfei’s round eyes, Fu Li hooked the corner of his lips, leaning his head close to his ear. “Not fierce, not fierce to Feifei.”
Le Qingfei: “Really?”
Fu Li was somewhat surprised. In the three months since their marriage, he had indeed never spoken a single harsh word to Le Qingfei. Le Qingfei suddenly having such a question made him somewhat puzzled as well.
“Prince Strawberry, give this minister a clear indication?”
Le Qingfei looked at Fu Li, blinked, shook his head, and leaned back against the car window, speaking no more.
The car stopped. Fu Li put the coat on Le Qingfei, watching him drink a third of the water in the thermos before letting him get out of the car.
Standing beside the car, he adjusted his ginger-yellow beret. “Don’t be anxious if you encounter problems. If you really want to fight, let the bodyguards pin the person down for you first; if anything happens, call Ivy…”
“Not calling you?” Le Qingfei tilted his head up to ask him.
Ivy was Fu Li’s third assistant. She and Le Qingfei had been in contact during this period, responsible for coordinating the matters of the Adoption Week.
Fu Li was currently pulling out the strands of hair by the side of Le Qingfei’s face. His hand paused in mid-air. “I need to go on a business trip for a few days.”
What?
Le Qingfei froze.
His eyes widened suddenly, yet his brows knitted slightly. “When, tomorrow?”
Fu Li: “Today.”
Le Qingfei: “How long are you going for?”
Fu Li finished neatening the hair by his face. “A few days, it won’t exceed a week.”
He understood clearly that he should maintain some distance from Le Qingfei.
Last night, he had stood by Le Qingfei’s bedside for almost the entire night, thinking about how, on that night when Le Qingfei was incoherent, he would attach himself to him so obediently, looking at him with pitiful, pleading eyes, as if he were his entire world, able to dominate and decide everything about him.
He wanted to see that kind of Le Qingfei again.
Gently pressing his face against his chest, soft fingers looping around his neck, calling his name amidst small, rapid panting. Strands of hair soaked in sweat sticking to his neck, where the warmth of a beating pulse lay.
It could fill the wound left behind by being gazed through deeply by those eyes that were honest to the point of having no emotion.
How hypocritical, to modify and beautify the desire spawned by uneasiness, not even daring to admit that he just wanted to * Le Qingfei.
Therefore, he needed to maintain distance.
The same roof, the same city—neither was enough; uneasiness and anxiety would continuously multiply. He would definitely rush back travel-worn on a night he couldn’t overcome, push open the bedroom door, and walk toward the soundly sleeping person without the slightest hesitation after shedding his clothes.
His baby was so innocent; perhaps he would have doubts about the changes in his body upon waking up, but he wouldn’t dare to speak, not even daring to seek help from others.
When he asked him over the phone, he would always cry softly, not daring to say anything, and might even beg him to come home at night to stay in his room and protect him.
……
Fu Li derived pleasure from the imagination in his mind.
So this distance must be a sufficient distance, such as the Pacific Ocean and the North American continent.
“Take good care of yourself.”
The eyes behind Fu Li’s lenses stained with a gentle smile. He touched Le Qingfei’s face with the back of his fingers, turned around, and left.
Le Qingfei stood by the roadside. Belatedly raising his hand toward the luxury car whose red taillights had lit up, he waved his hand. “Bye-bye…”
It seems like something is missing… what is missing?
Le Qingfei failed to think of it.
…
Adoption Week Begins & The Unresolved Doubts
Le Qingfei didn’t expect that so many people would come on the first day of Adoption Week.
Fortunately, when he was making the activity plan, Fu Li was beside him to accompany him, listening to his concepts, helping him supplement them, and finally perfecting the entire event together with him.
The venue and staff were all assisted by Fu Li; otherwise, relying solely on the few of them, they definitely wouldn’t be able to manage.
What is Fu Li doing right now?
Le Qingfei raised his head to look at the sky. “Flying on a plane.”
So cold. (A pun on a “cold joke” in Chinese, as flying/sitting on a plane sounds like “making” a plane).
Le Qingfei made himself laugh. Holding the little kitten, he hopped and skipped into the courtyard.
Le Qingfei greeted the leader of the stray dog rescue station who came to participate in the Adoption Week event together this time.
The leader’s surname was Lin, who was also a student at King’s Hong Kong University, a sophomore senior.
Lin Rui handed the coffee in his hand to Le Qingfei. “The preparation for this event is very thorough. Thank you for your hard work, Qingfei.”
“Is it for me?” Le Qingfei was somewhat surprised. He had only interacted with Lin Rui on the phone; this was their first time meeting. “Thank you.”
But Le Qingfei wasn’t quite used to drinking coffee; it tasted bitter, so he just held it to warm his hands. The temperature in February hadn’t risen by much after all, and it had rained last night, making Le Qingfei’s fingers turn a bit red from the cold.
Watching the wind blow up Le Qingfei’s long hair from beneath his hat, the ends of the hair brushing against his uncovered neck, Lin Rui moved a few steps to block the wind.
“This isn’t coffee,” Lin Rui said, seeing that he hadn’t been drinking it. “It’s hot milk with strawberry syrup added. I don’t know if you like it.”
“Eh?”
Le Qingfei took a sip and gave a thumbs-up.
Lin Rui smiled and lowered his head. Just as he was about to say something, a colleague from the rescue station found him, saying that Little Cloud refused to come out.
Le Qingfei listened for a bit and understood the ins and outs. “Let me go try.”
The rescue station colleague said that little white dog was truly fierce, but Lin Rui nodded. The few of them went into the minivan to look for that little dog hiding in the corner between the seats.
“Little doggy~”
Le Qingfei knelt down prone, tilting his head, calling out gently toward the dark little corner while extending his hand. “I have delicious meat jerky here. Do you want to taste it?”
Fearing Le Qingfei would be bitten, the colleague was just about to speak when he was stopped by Lin Rui extending his hand.
“Ying ying ying…”
A little white Maltese emerged from beneath the seat. It was clean and beautiful, with a small braid tied on top of its head and pinned with a pineapple hairpin. It sniffed cautiously, walked toward Le Qingfei, and licked his open palm.
Le Qingfei smiled. “Come here, baby.”
The Maltese was held in Le Qingfei’s arms, smoothly coming down from the car.
The rescue station colleague was stunned, suspecting that the little white dog currently curled up obediently in Le Qingfei’s arms had been switched, and was fundamentally not that same evil braid-wearer who had previously beaten up every member of the rescue station and frightened away more than ten adopters.
Le Qingfei’s white long pants and ginger-yellow sweater were soiled, but he didn’t care at all, as if getting a school uniform dirty and getting Miu Miu dirty made no difference to him.
—This overlapped with the scene of the first time Le Qingfei appeared in Lin Rui’s memory.
Le Qingfei fed Little Cloud some food and flicked the small braid on top of its head. “Who tied this braid for it?”
He took off his own hat, and then remembered that Fu Li hadn’t combed his hair today, so he put it back on disappointedly. “It looks a lot like how I usually tie it.”
Colleague: “The station leader tied it. This pineapple hairpin was also bought by the station leader.”
Le Qingfei nodded and began discussing the training Little Cloud needed to receive with them.
At this moment, a man walked over, asking Le Qingfei if the Maltese in his arms could be adopted.
This wasn’t a cat from the Pada Cabin. Le Qingfei placed the little white dog into the cage, let Lin Rui and the others go handle the talk, and went to check on the situation on the cats’ side himself.
The sun sank in the west. The first day of Adoption Week got off to a good start and ended smoothly.
Le Qingfei collapsed in exhaustion onto the back seat of the car, drinking a lot of water in large gulps, and pulled out his phone which had 95% battery.
The screen was piled with messages.
Le Qingfei smiled as he clicked open, but the smile on the corner of his lips didn’t last long.
【Fu Li: The plane has taken off.】
【Fu Li: The temperature is still low today, don’t take off your scarf.】
Why are there only two messages?
“Marcus,” Le Qingfei leaned against the front seatback. “The plane took off at ten-thirty in the morning. What time will it arrive in New York?”
“One o’clock in the morning.”
Le Qingfei uttered an “oh,” lay back down, and stared blankly at the street trees passing outside the window.
Fu Li was still “making” the plane.
Le Qingfei made himself laugh again.
…
The Phone Call & Five Days Apart
At 12 o’clock New York time, Fu Li’s private plane landed at JFK.
Looking through the rearview mirror at his boss who had picked up his phone and put it down countless times, the second assistant spoke up: “Boss, Marcus said the event ended at 18:00 King’s Hong Kong time.”
“Was it smooth?”
“Everything was smooth.” The second assistant continued, “Young Master Qingfei asked when our flight would land while he was in the car on the way back.”
Fu Li raised his eyes abruptly.
“Is he asleep?”
……
“Still playing games? Give him the phone.”
……
“Feifei, it’s very late. Why are you still…” Fu Li froze. “You are waiting for my call?”
“Yes.”
Le Qingfei paused his game. “Marcus said you wouldn’t land until one in the morning. I knew you would definitely want to call me, so I was waiting for you.”
The man on the other end of the phone fell silent for a moment.
Le Qingfei didn’t notice. He glanced at Rosita and said to Fu Li, “Let me call you using my phone. It’s very late, Roro needs to sleep too.”
Hanging up the phone, Le Qingfei tidied up all the toys and snacks in the game room and ran back to the bedroom.
“Fu Li, did the plane have no signal today? I only received two messages from you. You used to send a lot.”
……
“Mm, I’ll be a little unhappy, just a little bit. I didn’t send messages to you? You didn’t have a signal; even if I sent them, you wouldn’t receive them.”
……
“Okay, then I will send you messages next time too.”
Le Qingfei lay prone on the bed, telling Fu Li that 13 little cats and 9 little dogs found adoptive families today, and then spoke about that Maltese named Little Cloud.
“Although it’s very fierce, always growling at people, and sometimes bites, it looks so beautiful. Just by showing its face, many people wanted to adopt it. When it was taken away, I also went to confirm with the adopter. The little dog is indeed a bit fierce, but the other party looked very sincere, saying they took a liking to it at first sight and liked it very, very much. It’s probably love at first sight too.”
Fu Li listened quietly on the other end of the phone.
Gradually, Le Qingfei didn’t even know what he himself was saying, successfully making himself sleepy. He rubbed his eyes and fell asleep.
The even sound of breathing crossed the Pacific Ocean where light and darkness merged, falling into Fu Li’s ears, as if saying to him:
Missed me, right?
Do you want to see me very much?
Come see me.
So he hung up the phone.
During his few days in America, Fu Li attended countless meetings; he returned to his alma mater, going from the rowing team training room to the fencing club, looking like an undercover agent invited by Yale, leaving a severe psychological shadow on all the juniors; he also called his friend—who was currently tasting dishes for a wedding banquet—to a boxing club, boxing for an entire day.
He still couldn’t hold it back.
Fu Li returned to the country on the fifth day, landing at noon in King’s Hong Kong.
He specifically chose this time, letting the sun find his nearly untraceable morality, hoping he could at least try to speak with Le Qingfei using his mouth during the bright daylight, rather than doing other things.
Le Qingfei was still at the adoption event site.
In the photos sent by the bodyguards, Le Qingfei wore a beautiful, loose, irregular water-green sweater today. The white silk ribbons that could be tied into bows on both sides of the hem had been clawed open by too many little cats and dogs wanting to climb into Le Qingfei’s arms, leaving only the silk ribbons floating in the wind.
Like the long, slender tail projections of a green little butterfly.
Fu Li stared at that photo of Le Qingfei standing under the magnolia tree for a long time. In the flower shop, he picked light green Avalanche roses, which suited him well.
Holding the flowers, Fu Li walked into the courtyard and saw Le Qingfei sitting on the steps crying.
…
The Return of Little Cloud & Outburst of Emotions
The sky was as blue as if it had been washed, making it a rare beautiful sunny day.
Le Qingfei sat under the magnolia tree, combing the fur of a little cat, while falling magnolia petals landed on them simultaneously.
“Meow?”
“Mm?”
Le Qingfei touched the little cat’s head which had been struck by a petal. Mimicking him, the cream-colored little orange cat extended its paw and patted him.
Le Qingfei held up the cat with one hand, raised his phone with the other, rested their two heads together, and winked.
He clicked open the chat box, just about to send it to Fu Li, but found that Fu Li hadn’t asked him to send photos.
Why?
Every time Fu Li went on a business trip, or even just went to work, he would ask him to take photos.
Fine then, he would post it to his Moments.
[Flower] Fei and Little Meow~ [Cat]
Le Qingfei kissed the cat. Just as he was about to turn off his phone screen, a red dot popped up immediately.
[Lin Rui] liked your Moments
Le Qingfei looked back. Lin Rui, after long-pressing and tapping on his phone screen, put it into his pocket while looking toward him, immediately moving his gaze away upon meeting Le Qingfei’s eyes.
A few seconds later, as if realizing this wasn’t quite good, he smiled at Le Qingfei, lowered his head, and continued to be busy.
Le Qingfei was lost in thought.
On the final day of the Adoption Week event, a government department came to perform an inspection. Even if Fu Li had greeted them beforehand, for an event this large, someone still needed to step forward to go through the motions.
Fu Li didn’t want Le Qingfei to understand these matters, so he sent his third assistant, Ivy, over to help.
Le Qingfei brought along the hot strawberry milk he made with his own hands to pick up the person by the roadside.
The vehicle slowed down to a stop. Ivy pushed open the door from the passenger seat and got down, greeting him with a smile. “Qingfei.”
“Ivy.”
At this moment, the boyfriend in the driver’s seat chased after her with the breakfast she had forgotten to take. “Baby, breakfast.”
“I totally forgot, thank you, baby.”
Ivy and her boyfriend stood beside the car, naturally kissing briefly to say goodbye.
Turning around, Ivy’s boyfriend happened to meet Le Qingfei’s stunned gaze.
He didn’t know Le Qingfei, but guessed he might have just reached adulthood. Feeling a bit embarrassed, he gave a tentative greeting and ran away.
Ivy noticed it, but didn’t take it to heart.
After all, her boss had gone to work for several days with a neck and arms that had been scratched and bitten. It must have been done by this little cat.
The two walked inside.
Looking at the orderly courtyard, Ivy remembered the colleague responsible for the event had said Le Qingfei was very serious. Even though there were many things he didn’t understand, he was learning seriously; he learned slowly, but he was serious, polite, and very well-behaved.
They even asked her what relationship the kid had with President Fu, and whether he had a boyfriend… only to be quickly cut off by Ivy, who half-reminded and half-warned them to just do their own job well.
At this moment, Le Qingfei, who was walking quietly beside her, suddenly spoke: “Ivy, is Fu Li very busy abroad?”
Ivy: “Busy. Your second assistant sister hasn’t had her feet touch the ground these past few days.”
“Very, very busy?” Le Qingfei stopped his steps, tilting his head under the tree shadow. “The kind of busy when he is surrounded by more than ten little dogs?”
This comparison was quite cute.
However, with the perceptiveness that enabled her to become Fu Li’s assistant, as well as a woman’s intuition, Ivy keenly sensed something.
“Qingfei, what do you want to ask?”
Le Qingfei stood on the spot. Suddenly, he stopped talking altogether, shaking his head.
The comparison just now wasn’t actually a comparison; Le Qingfei was just thinking: Lin Rui was surrounded by more than a dozen little dogs yet could still see his Moments, so why couldn’t Fu Li see it?
He knew this sounded very unreasonable, but why?
Also, after seeing Ivy and her boyfriend part ways, Le Qingfei finally remembered what was missing on the day Fu Li left.
Fu Li didn’t kiss him.
Le Qingfei extended his hand. “One day, two days, three days…” He counted out five fingers.
Fu Li hadn’t kissed him for five days.
Le Qingfei stared at his toes, noticed an ugly little pebble beside them, and kicked it.
Very annoying.
Le Qingfei felt it was very annoying. Fu Li not seeing his Moments was very annoying; not kissing him on the day he left was very annoying… and having such emotions was very annoying.
He had never cared about whether anyone looked at his photos, nor did he like Fu Li kissing him, so why would it be like this?
Also, why did Fu Li stop doing so?
One emotion, dissatisfaction, sadness, and doubt after another bounced into Le Qingfei’s brain like ball pit balls. One hitting another, generating one; hitting another, generating one… soon there was a ball pit pool, dense and packed, allowing many Le Qingfeis to jump inside.
But Le Qingfei didn’t want to play in the ball pit right now.
He wanted Fu Li to call him, he wanted Fu Li to see his selfie, and he wanted Fu Li to say “sorry” to him and then kiss him.
Yes, exactly like that.
Le Qingfei pulled out his phone, preparing to call Fu Li to make him come back and kiss him.
Suddenly, a little white dog ran to his feet, spinning around continuously.
“Little Cloud?”
“Woof woof woof!”
The small braid on top of the Maltese’s head was gone, looking messy. It bounced back and forth by his feet, finally climbing onto his calf, letting out “ying ying” sounds to make him hold it.
Le Qingfei held it in his arms, comforting it in a soft voice. “It’s okay, it’s okay, baby don’t be afraid.”
He took off the hair tie from his head, tied its small braid up, and prepared to go find Lin Rui to ask why Little Cloud would run back by itself.
The moment he raised his head, he saw Little Cloud’s adopter walking toward him holding large and small bags of things.
“Hello, I’m looking for Station Leader Lin.” The man’s expression was ugly. “I don’t want this dog anymore.”
Le Qingfei’s hand stroking the little dog paused.
Inside the room, Lin Rui and the man sat facing each other across the table, while the angry Le Qingfei stood by the window holding Little Cloud.
Lin Rui: “Mr. Zhou, when we signed the adoption agreement, we confirmed the adoption intention repeatedly, and it is also clearly written on the adoption contract…”
The man interrupted impatiently in an annoyed tone: “It is clearly written on the contract that if I have no way to continue raising it, it can be returned to you guys.”
Seeing their confusion, the man continued: “I did like this little dog very much, but I only discovered after bringing it home that it really has too much of a temper. No matter how I coax it, it won’t get better; it even growls at people, and if you want to hold it, it will bite…”
“Did you make a mistake?”
Le Qingfei covered the dog’s ears and rushed in front of the man. “On the day of adoption, both of us confirmed the personality issues of Little Cloud with you repeatedly. You said you accepted it all, had a lot of patience, and would accompany Little Cloud to adapt. Now you just say you can’t accept it?”
The man curled his lip. “I thought I could, but there really are problems when actually getting along.”
“I just saw it looked beautiful back then and indeed liked it, so I felt I could go to this extent for it. But how would I know its personality is so bad? Eating mine, using mine, yet it gets angry and bites me when I touch it, I…… Hey hey hey! What are you doing?!”
Le Qingfei handed Little Cloud to Lin Rui, rushing forward to hit him.
Marcus was right by the door. Hearing the commotion, he immediately entered the room and pinned down the man who was preparing to resist.
But Le Qingfei stopped his steps.
He froze for a few seconds, then suddenly turned around and walked out of the room.
Lin Rui glanced at Le Qingfei’s departing back, quickly signed the cancellation contract with the man, and chased after him.
The two stood beneath the archway. The noon sunlight was dazzling; only their black silhouettes could be seen clearly, not their expressions.
Lin Rui comforted him, saying such things frequently happened, and Little Cloud didn’t absolutely have to be placed for adoption—he could take care of it himself, telling Le Qingfei not to worry.
Le Qingfei nodded and said thank you.
He walked toward the steps in an empty, quiet place, pulling out his phone, wanting to call Fu Li.
To scold him.
But suddenly, he felt it was so meaningless.
He sat down on the steps, clutching his phone. On the screen was the short dialogue box between the two sides, and he stared blankly in a daze.
Little Cloud found him somehow. Its forelimbs crouched, sticking up its rear to act spoiled toward him, wagging its tail.
The tail, which had been maliciously cut short by bad people, was only that little bit, yet it wagged so intensely; clearly it was very sad itself, yet it still wanted him to be a bit happier.
Le Qingfei held it up, and all at once, he burst into tears.
A pair of black leather shoes stopped in front of him.
Le Qingfei looked up along the suit trousers. Just like that snowy night in December, he saw Fu Li holding flowers.
A Fu Li whose eyes carried a hint of panic.
“Feifei,” Fu Li squatted down, one hand gripping his arm, one hand pressing against his face which was wet with tears. “Why are you crying?”
The Maltese in his arms poked out its head. Upon seeing Le Qingfei extend his hand to push Fu Li away, it also barked loudly at him.
“Woof woof woof!”
Little Cloud’s barking attracted Lin Rui.
Although Lin Rui didn’t know Fu Li, he could tell he and Le Qingfei had things to talk about, so he carried Little Cloud away.
“Feifei?”
“I hate you very much,” Le Qingfei raised his arm, wiping his eyes forcefully. “Right now, I hate you even more than all, all, all the hatred from before.”
Fu Li opened his mouth, yet couldn’t find where to begin defending himself.
At this moment, Marcus appeared not far away. Fu Li walked over, and the former briefly and concisely explained the ins and outs of the matter.
They could understand Le Qingfei’s anger, yet only Fu Li knew his sadness.
After being kicked by Le Qingfei to the point where his pants were covered in footprints, Fu Li finally gathered him tightly into his arms, hugging him securely.
“I’m sorry, Feifei,” Fu Li pressed against his ear, breathing, kissing, and apologizing. “I didn’t do well, making Feifei sad.”
Held in his arms, Le Qingfei refused to lean his face over, his eyes staring blankly at the little flowers on the lawn.
Upon hearing Fu Li apologize, his large tears fell suspended from the edges of his eye sockets.
Le Qingfei: “I think I am very good, but if you think I am not good, you tell me; if you don’t like me anymore, you must tell me too. Don’t make me still look forward to you treating me like before. I don’t like this.”
Le Qingfei’s expression was firm, his tender and beautiful face becoming even more vivid because of his stubbornness, yet it made Fu Li so sad.
Just as he had been taught to discard emotions and rationality in his nearly thirty years of life, Le Qingfei was always the exception.
“No such thing,” Fu Li’s forehead rested lightly against his. “I like Feifei very much, even more than before. I want to see you every day, I want to hold you like this, and I also want Feifei to be sad for me like this… but not too much, just a little bit is enough.”
Fu Li gently wiped away his tears. “Why are Feifei’s tears so hot? They burn me into sadness too.”
Le Qingfei didn’t believe it at all. “You’re lying.”
He looked toward Fu Li and froze. He saw Fu Li’s eyes turning red behind the lenses.
Le Qingfei froze on the spot.
Fu Li leaned over, raising his chin slightly, kissing his forehead and his wet eyes.
It seemed no other words were needed.
Le Qingfei’s tense body gradually relaxed. Slowly, he leaned his face against Fu Li’s shoulder, crying out his truly sad tears.
“I am very sad,” Le Qingfei said while crying. “I don’t know if it’s because of the little dog, or because of myself.”
“I feel very bad. You became bad. Before, you would always kiss me and keep calling me, saying you missed me… but this week you didn’t. I am really a bit sad.”
“I’m sorry.”
Fu Li held him and swayed him gently, lowering his head to kiss his soft brown hair. “Feifei missed me, right?”
Le Qingfei thought about it and nodded. “Mm, I missed you.”
Fu Li: “This time it wasn’t just a little bit?”
Le Qingfei: “No, this time I missed you.”
After he finished speaking, Fu Li’s kiss fell upon his face, tenderly kissing his eyes and the tip of his nose which were red from crying, and then gently raised his chin with his fingers, pressing against his lips.
Without carrying any lust, it was just a gentle, comforting kiss.
But this time, Le Qingfei gently parted his own lips, a sliver, like that ray of light crossing the sea surface at dawn break.
Fu Li naturally didn’t miss this opportunity. The hand pinching the back of Le Qingfei’s neck moved upward, cradling the back of his head, pressing him closer as the tip of his tongue broke through that sliver of a gap.
The lips were stained with tears, salty and sour, yet licking inside, he could taste the sweet greasiness of the strawberry soft candy Le Qingfei had just eaten.
It felt like another reward given to him.
“I missed Feifei very much too; I didn’t do well this time. But I also didn’t expect that Feifei would be sad because of me.”
Fu Li kissed his cheek. “I am very happy, but I still can’t bear for you to be sad.”
Le Qingfei squinted his eyes slightly from being kissed. “Is Fu Li sad too? Why?”
Fu Li looked at him, one hand almost covering Le Qingfei’s entire face. Beside his palm, the red eyes looked puzzled and carried wet worry.
Fu Li: “Hearing Feifei say divorce made no difference, so I was sad.”
The sound of the wind seemed to quiet down between the two of them as well.
Le Qingfei lowered his eyes slightly, murmuring: “I was a bit too.”
“What?”
“A bit sad,” Le Qingfei’s eyelashes looked like flower pistils soaked by rain. “I didn’t know at the time. Thinking about it now, I was a bit sad at the time.”
Fu Li’s heart was cried into a soggy mess by Le Qingfei.
Even metaphors used duplicated words.
In the adult world, there were too many words spoken against one’s heart; sadness and shame were the least important, and honesty was an unnecessary thing that couldn’t be exchanged for benefit.
But Le Qingfei wasn’t like that; he was always honest.
Le Qingfei raised his eyes to look at him. “You clearly said it to Uncle yourself that you would divorce me in the future.”
“I’m sorry,” Fu Li was rarely honest. “That was rhetoric to stall him, out of helplessness. But I will not divorce Feifei, and I have never even had this thought; I cannot lose you.”
Le Qingfei: “Fu Li, you are so amazing, yet you can be helpless too?”
Le Qingfei’s eyes looked like transparent marbles.
“Yes,” Fu Li gripped the back of his head, bringing him gently toward himself, their foreheads touching. “But I promise you, I will handle everything as quickly as possible.”
Le Qingfei didn’t understand, but nodded.
Fu Li gently held his fingers which were cold from crying with his left hand, saying softly: “I don’t want to make Feifei sad, but if I do this kind of bastard thing again, Feifei just call and scold me, don’t cry, okay?”
Le Qingfei quickly nodded. “I wanted to scold you; I prepared to scold you after I finished crying.”
Fu Li laughed, tilting his head to gently kiss his lips.
“Feifei missed me.”
“Mm.”
“This is the first time Feifei said he missed me.”
“Mm.”
“Feifei…”
“Don’t keep talking…”
Le Qingfei’s face turned a bit red. When he was led into the car by Fu Li, he seemed to know what would happen.
…
Inside the Luxury Car & Intimacy Reestablished
The partition of the black luxury car rolled up.
A fair and slender hand hung over the wine-red back seat, the index finger twitching physiologically due to loss of strength, looking like a startled butterfly.
Le Qingfei leaned against the corner between the seat and the window, his hair rubbed a bit messy, just like the irregular hem of his water-green sweater which rolled up a bit, exposing his firm and flat lower abdomen.
As well as the large hand gripping there.
“Did Feifei miss me?”
Fu Li asked him again.
Le Qingfei was out of oxygen from being kissed, his chest heaving violently along with his breathing, with fresh hickeys remaining on top, as well as the shadow of the purple magnolia flowers outside the window falling upon it.
He nodded.
Fu Li looked at him, looking at his moist eyes, his reddened nose tip, and his slightly parted lips that exposed his small white teeth. Just kissing alone made his Feifei look so good.
Fu Li kissed him again.
Le Qingfei slowly closed his eyes, the soft tip of his tongue moving gently—so soft.
……
The curtains of the bedroom were not drawn closed.
Outside the window was only the endless sea and the seductive spring colors. Fu Li wanted to use them to look at Le Qingfei’s face and body.
Le Qingfei’s hands crossed over the top of his head, resting randomly on the pillow, his head tilted slightly as he looked at Fu Li.
A direct gaze, pure and innocent.
When his thigh was stroked, he would still tremble with tension, like a fragile flower petal disturbed by rain.
“Don’t be afraid.”
……
Fu Li felt Le Qingfei’s fingertips caressing very lightly, very slowly, scarcely perceptibly.
Le Qingfei’s fingers looked very good—snow-white and slender, with nails painted with lotus-root-colored nail polish trimmed round, gentle and cute. It made his own look ferocious.
Just a little bit of initiative was enough to make all those violent thoughts in his mind disappear, as if they had never appeared.
Affection, cherishing, dependence.
His Feifei could always make him be a good person.
……
Le Qingfei woke up at night. Fu Li sat on the carpet at the foot of the bed, typing very lightly on his laptop keyboard, discovering his opening eyes at the first instance.
Fu Li closed the screen emitting a faint light and went to the bedside.
Le Qingfei recovered a bit under the stroking of his palm. “Did I not eat? Very hungry.”
Fu Li laughed, lowering his head to kiss his face, and dressed him to go downstairs to eat something.
Inside the kitchen, there were only the two of them.
Fu Li boiled the pasta, went upstairs to get Le Qingfei a hair tie to tie his hair, and conveniently brought his laptop to the island counter, seizing the time to conduct the postponed meeting.
Le Qingfei stood beside the island counter and let out a yawn, his head swaying slightly along with Fu Li’s movements of tying his hair.
“Why are there only two plates of pasta?” Le Qingfei was puzzled. “Aren’t you eating?”
Fu Li: “Uh.”
“Feifei wants to eat two plates?”
“Mm, I didn’t eat at noon or at night; I need to make up for it.”
Fu Li leaned over to look at his stomach, reaching out to pinch it. “So thin, where can it hold so much?”
Le Qingfei felt he had been eating a bit too much recently anyway, but still refused to back down, turning around to punch him, only to come face-to-face with the people in the dozen grids on the screen.
He quickly squatted down, but was caught back up by Fu Li, lifted to sit on his thighs. “What are you hiding for?”
His camera and audio weren’t turned on; he had no intention of letting other people watch his cute wife.
But Le Qingfei looked very cute when he was shy, and he couldn’t help but want to tease him.
“What are you doing?” Le Qingfei dodged the camera. “Don’t do strange things in front of other people.”
Fu Li laughed, approaching his ear. “Feifei is so amazing, yet you can be shy too?”
“Hmm?”
“Feifei learns so fast. This is only the second time, yet you are already as amazing as a little tiger. If we practice a few more times, what should I do?”
Le Qingfei remembered something, his face turning intensely red, and then asked Fu Li with some uncertainty, “Right now?”
Fu Li: “What?”
Le Qingfei: “My fingers are still a bit sore. Next time.”
Fu Li hesitated to speak, discovering he had trapped himself, and released his hand disappointedly.
After finishing the meeting, Fu Li made burgers and fries for Le Qingfei again, accompanying him to eat a bit, mainly responsible for clearing out the vegetable portions Le Qingfei disliked.
Le Qingfei spoke about that Maltese that was returned.
Fu Li was indeed indifferent to pets, but if Le Qingfei liked them, he would try to like them too.
“Does Feifei want to bring it back?”
“I thought about it,” Le Qingfei stuffed an ugly french fry into Fu Li’s mouth. “But Station Leader Lin said he has already brought Little Cloud home.”
He also said he could go to the house to see Little Cloud.
Afterward, Lin Rui also sent very long words to comfort him. Le Qingfei was very touched, replying with a thank you and six exclamation marks.
…
Studying & Facing Difficulties Together
Having eaten and drunk his fill, Le Qingfei had energy again.
He walked into Fu Li’s study—oh no, it was now the study for both of them.
Le Qingfei easily got distracted whenever he read books, but if someone spoke to him or accompanied him, he wouldn’t. Therefore, Fu Li set up a study desk for him too, diagonally opposite his own in the study.
However, the study desks were pushed closer and closer, and finally, Le Qingfei and Fu Li became deskmates.
When Fu Li was on the phone, his face would be hit by paper frogs flicked up by Le Qingfei; Le Qingfei would complain about taking his fountain pen by mistake, making the drawn little people bleed color; when angry at him, Le Qingfei would use his documents and his colored pencil box to “build” a Chu-Han boundary line…
Le Qingfei began reviewing the make-up exam subjects after the school opening.
Fu Li accompanied his studying, kissing him whenever Le Qingfei got distracted, making it unclear whether it was a reward or a punishment for whom.
Le Qingfei slumped in Fu Li’s black leather chair, a copy of Fundamentals of Finance covering his face, reciting the calculation formulas for simple interest and compound interest.
“Simple interest is principal X interest rate X time, compound interest is… Fu Li is…” Le Qingfei giggled, taking down the book, looking at the person sitting in front of him. “Fu Li, it sounds exactly like your name.”
So cold.
Fu Li was currently lowering his head to clip his toenails, yet he cooperatively laughed, and then answered with the calculation formula for compound interest.
Le Qingfei really couldn’t remember it anymore, and began getting distracted again. Biting the book page, he patted Fu Li with his toes. “My toenails aren’t long.”
Fu Li raised his head to glance at him. “What’s the deal with those scratches on my back then?”
Le Qingfei hummed twice, picked up the book, and continued reciting while shaking his head.
Probably because he had stood for too long these past few days, Le Qingfei’s feet were a bit swollen. Fu Li teased that they looked like little European buns, taking essential oil to massage his feet.
Le Qingfei looked like a suddenly wealthy landlord or a heaven-sent emperor, biting sour-and-twisted candies, enjoying Fu Li’s meticulous and considerate service with peace of mind.
Because his hands had also served for a long time, they were still a bit red right now.
The momentum for reviewing faded over time, but the difficulty of learning didn’t decrease in the slightest.
If he couldn’t understand, he just couldn’t understand.
“I just, just can’t memorize it…” Le Qingfei sat behind the study desk. The moment he closed his eyes, tears began pouring down like a broken faucet. “If I can’t remember, I just can’t remember…”
He had never been smart; he had never done well in school, and it was fundamentally impossible for him to turn into a person very good at learning overnight just because of his so-called “ideal.” Except for his father, mother, and Fu Li, no one had ever praised him as smart; they only praised him for being very hardworking. He was just an unsmart person, so how could he possibly learn these things.
Fu Li’s heart completely melted from his crying.
He took away the book that was wet from crying from Le Qingfei’s hand and lifted the person up. Le Qingfei also actively extended both arms, wrapping them around his neck, burying himself in his embrace and crying continuously, saying he didn’t want to study anymore and couldn’t learn it.
“Fu Li, I, I really don’t want to go to school anymore. Don’t… make me study anymore, okay…?”
These past few days, Le Qingfei studied too diligently and worked very hard; he knew it all.
Holding Le Qingfei, he went to the living room of the bedroom, turned on the television, wrapped Le Qingfei up in a blanket, held him in his arms, and accompanied him to watch Toy Story for the countless time again.
Fu Li naturally understood that school must be attended, but knew even more that these things weren’t suitable for Le Qingfei.
He didn’t hope Le Qingfei would give up easily upon encountering difficulties, yet understood this “difficulty” didn’t fit Le Qingfei’s zone of proximal development, and his crying truly broke his heart.
How about just not schooling anymore.
Le Qingfei’s life no longer required him to work very hard to do anything; he would do everything well for him. Being happy every day, doing what he wanted to do—strawberry jam, blueberry jam, fig jam… so many jams.
The only one capable of throwing Fu Li into a dilemma was Le Qingfei.
He prepared to have a good talk with Le Qingfei after he finished watching the movie. Unexpectedly, before the movie ended, Le Qingfei spoke first.
“I will continue schooling,” Le Qingfei lay prone in his embrace, his tears gone, leaving only the changing light spots of the movie on his skin. “I will work a bit harder; I will work hard to get the reward.”
Fu Li startled slightly.
Surprised and pained by Le Qingfei’s stubbornness, as well as the fact that he only needed a hug—without even needing more words—to obtain strength from it, along with the support he so incomparably treasured.
Fu Li lowered his head to kiss the top of his head, swallowing his words back down, turning to say instead: “Okay, I believe Feifei can achieve it.”
Le Qingfei nodded in his embrace. “Yes, I can achieve it; I will work very hard.”
Having no talent or not being smart didn’t matter; working hard wasn’t wrong.
Fu Li rubbed his neck, suddenly speaking up: “Tomorrow we are going to the amusement park.”
Le Qingfei raised his eyes. “Amusement park? Am I not working hard anymore?”
On the sofa, Fu Li tilted his head back against the sofa backrest and laughed. Immediately after, he gently cradled Le Qingfei’s face to kiss him. “The reward for working hard. Go play first; after playing, we will continue working hard.”
Le Qingfei’s eyes lit up. He nodded repeatedly, leaning back into Fu Li’s embrace.
“Yes, working hard will have rewards too.”
“Mm, Feifei deserves all the rewards.”
The silhouettes of the people hugging on the sofa fell upon the polished viewing window glass of the villa, merging into one with the spring night outside the window.
…
A Day at the Amusement Park & The Cliffhanger
Inside the amusement park, a 193cm tall man had his black trench coat open, with all kinds of plush hairpins pinned to both sides of the trench coat, looking like a street peddler.
Le Qingfei: “I want to wear that StellaLou hairpin now.”
Fu Li unwrapped the paw-shaped popsicle in his hand and fed it into Le Qingfei’s mouth. Immediately after, he lowered his head to search seriously, took off the hairpin from his clothes, and gently pinned it onto the top of Le Qingfei’s head.
Le Qingfei touched the LinaBell on top of his head, pursing his lips into a smile. “I want to eat another roasted chicken leg.”
Le Qingfei’s standby duration was related to his total intake of food.
But Fu Li was still startled by his limitless energy in the amusement park. For a full 12 hours, except for sitting down for half an hour for lunch, Le Qingfei was continuously walking, eating, and playing the rest of the time.
Right after finishing avocado chicken rolls, beef ball swallow dumplings, and roasted chicken leg rice, he could immediately go ride the Rex coaster. Every time he screamed, Fu Li feared he would throw up.
Not at all.
At night, fireworks rose into the sky.
Fu Li let out a rare yawn. Le Qingfei was still squatting on the steps, eating ice cream while talking on the phone with a friend, full of vitality.
A passing father nearby gave Fu Li an “I feel you” look, running lifelessly to chase after his wildly running child.
Fu Li was disdainful.
How dare they compare those kids with his Feifei?
Upon exiting the amusement park, Le Qingfei couldn’t even last until getting into the car; he fell asleep while walking. Fu Li picked him up, but not long after getting into the car, Le Qingfei said he felt uncomfortable and didn’t want to sit in the car anymore.
It happened to be near their former home. Getting out of the car, Fu Li carried him upstairs.
In the middle of the night, Le Qingfei felt a bout of discomfort in his stomach, entered the bathroom, and threw up.
