Male Lead, Please Don’t Covet the Mob Character Cannon Fodder (Quick Transmigration) - Chapter 28
The chemical agent was different from the Heinos Naga’s hormones.
When the hormones were injected, the body became weak and the mind grew hazy, as if walking through clouds. Now, however, Qingshi’s mind was painfully clear. He could distinctly feel the itching and heat permeating his body.
He bit his lower lip, attempting to use pain to distract himself from this unbearable sensation. The crimson blood slowly flowing from the corner of his mouth looked like a blood flower blooming atop a snow-capped mountain, beautiful yet fragile enough to shatter at a touch.
His snowy-white limbs were shackled in cold metal, yet they were gradually being stained with a deep flush. Bai Lin stood to the side watching this exquisite scene, his eyes filled with immense satisfaction.
The feeling was intoxicating, as if he had personally broken the wings of an arrogant deity, dragging him down to the mortal realm and drowning him in a sea of desire.
Bai Lin reached out to touch the crimson at the corner of Qingshi’s mouth, gently wiping away that single line of blood.
As the slightly calloused fingers brushed his lips, Qingshi snapped his eyes open. His angry gaze wished it could transform into sharp blades to hack Bai Lin into a thousand pieces. “Get lost! Do not touch me!”
This time, Bai Lin did not back away. He used force to pry open Qingshi’s jaw and stuffed a silicone bite ball into his mouth, ensuring that Qingshi could no longer bite himself.
He patted Qingshi’s cheek nonchalantly. “Captain Ji needs to be careful. You are a precious experimental subject now.”
Qingshi clenched his teeth and turned his head to dodge the hand.
“Heh.” Perhaps amused by Qingshi’s futile, silent rage, Bai Lin connected the collector to Qingshi’s body and prepared to leave.
“Enjoy yourself, Captain Ji.”
Sensing the departure of its master, the motion-sensor lights went out row by row. Eventually, only the green glow from the active instrument panel remained, illuminating the lamb led to slaughter on the dark experimental bed.
Uncontrollable, heavy breathing echoed through the empty laboratory. In the hazy green light, rounded toes curled and veins bulged on the arches of his feet. His lean ankles showed deep red rings from being too intimately acquainted with the metal restraints.
Something was about to break out of his body, but it always dissipated at the final moment. Qingshi was being driven mad by this sensation.
Humiliation and shame warred in his heart as he struggled to fight against his physical instincts.
Glistening drops of sweat seeped from his flushed skin, looking as enticing as dew clinging to a budding rose.
Clack.
Piercing light cut through the gap of the opening door, landing on the pale, limp fingertips hanging off the edge of the table.
Eyelashes like butterfly wings slowly fluttered, revealing the dark, deep blue eyes beneath.
“Captain Ji, did you rest well last night?” Bai Lin stepped into the laboratory and smiled upon seeing Qingshi’s exhausted expression.
Qingshi glanced up at him before feebly lowering his eyelids. He had been tortured all night; the effects of the drug had only just begun to subside before Bai Lin entered.
Bai Lin walked over to the collector. Looking at the liquid in the jar, he curled his lips in satisfaction. “Good, good. You have worked hard, Captain Ji.”
Clack. The metal rings binding his body were opened. However, Qingshi was exhausted and could only manage to twitch his fingertips slightly.
Bai Lin removed the black bite ball from his mouth. From the deep teeth marks on the ball, it was easy to see the devastation it had endured.
Looking at the blood-red marks on Qingshi’s neck and limbs left by his own struggles, Bai Lin said to the two assistants who followed him in, “Take him to the Research Park and place him in isolation.”
“Yes, sir.”
Qingshi was carried by the two men and placed into a private glass enclosure. He lay on the floor, the transparent glass reflecting his disheveled and battered body.
Once, he was the person standing outside the glass looking down; now, he was the exhibit inside with no human rights. One could not help but lament the fickleness of fate.
Last night, he had once thought of seeking relief through death. But every time that thought flashed, a surge of panic would rise in his heart, as if someone were desperately preventing him from doing so.
Jia’s silhouette involuntarily appeared in Qingshi’s mind. He surely would not return to human territory for him, would he? After all, he had been tricked once already. If he managed to escape only to be caught again, it would be a true laughingstock.
Fortunately, he had never heard any rumors that Heinos Nagas were monogamous for life. He hoped the male lead would quickly find a new mate to replace him; only then would there be hope for his mission to be completed.
After lying there for a long time, some strength finally returned to his body. Qingshi forced himself to stand. With weak, floating steps, he entered the interior of the mini-ecosystem and hid himself behind a large tree trunk.
Although he knew there was 360-degree surveillance within the ecosystem, it provided some psychological comfort not to be exposed naked in front of everyone.
Qingshi sat on the ground with his head against the tree, drifting into a daze of sleep. He was truly too tired. Though he had only missed one night of sleep, it felt as if he had lost half his life.
Qing, where are you?
Why did you leave me?
Answer me, Qing!
In the middle of the night, Qingshi woke with a start. He instinctively looked around.
The Research Park, shrouded in darkness, was silent. He pressed a hand to his forehead and thought, “How could I hear Jia’s voice? Was it a dream?”
“Ngh!” His long legs crossed over each other as Qingshi realized his body was acting up again. He was burning up, but the sensation was different from the drug; it felt more like the reaction after being injected with Jia’s hormones.
His body was craving. Not just in front, but the back was also opening and closing, wanting something. Drops of water from an unknown source dampened the flowers and grass beside him.
His throat was parched, as if blocked by a red-hot iron, needing something to extinguish the flames.
Qingshi stuffed his wrist into his mouth, enduring the indescribable and strange sensation.
He did not know how long this grueling feeling lasted. By the time he came to his senses, the teeth marks on his wrist had blossomed into blood flowers.
Panting, Qingshi changed his posture to lean against the large tree.
“Is this a side effect caused by the drug?” he thought, looking at the clear liquid on his hand.
Ten thousand miles away, Jia sensed his mate’s craving during the transition period. His gaze darkened, and his thick snake tail slammed violently against the ground. The ice layer let out an overburdened cracking sound.
Looking up at the moon, Jia’s speed surged again. He tracked the faint scent of the hormones he had left on his mate.
Bai Lin stood before the experimental table, which held ten tubes of different samples. His face was dark as he looked at the experimental report in his hand.
“Go, bring Ji Qingshi to the laboratory,” he ordered the assistant standing nearby.
“Yes, sir.”
Ecosystem 0414, the place where Qingshi was confined.
Seeing Bai Lin’s two assistants appear outside the glass door, Qingshi remained indifferent. After all, they came every day to collect his blood, hair, and tissue.
But today was different. “Please come with us.”
They were actually letting him walk out. Was that fellow Bai Lin going to pull some new trick?
Qingshi stood up and walked to the door. The two assistants reached out to grab his arms, but Qingshi frowned and dodged them. “I can walk by myself.”
The two assistants glanced at each other and sandwiched him between them, leading him toward Bai Lin’s laboratory.
“Mr. Bai Lin, the subject is here,” the lead assistant reported, opening the door.
“Mhm, come in.”
Seeing Bai Lin conducting tests at the table, Qingshi truly could not muster a pleasant face for him. He kept his eyes lowered, looking at the floor, practicing the principle of out of sight, out of mind.
Bai Lin, who had just re-run the experiment only to reach the same conclusion, suddenly threw the report in his hand. He then swept his arm across the table, causing glass vessels to shatter across the floor.
He stared at the mess on the ground, his eyes filled with a dark, surging malice, like a vortex forming beneath a bay before a storm.
“Heh.” Qingshi looked up and saw his behavior, which was like that of a trapped beast, and could not help but laugh out loud.
Bai Lin looked up at Qingshi and curled his lips into a slightly bloody smile.
He walked slowly to Qingshi and spoke, “Captain Ji, I have a question. Could you answer it for me?”
Qingshi looked at him but did not respond.
“It has been so many days, yet the Heinos gene in your body has not proliferated at all, while your own genes are dying. Captain Ji, do you know the reason for this?”
He naturally knew the reason, but he would not say it.
Qingshi raised his eyelids and looked at Bai Lin with a half-smile of disdain. “If even you do not know, how would I?”
Bai Lin narrowed his eyes to meet Qingshi’s gaze. After a moment, he let out a cold snort. “Tie him to the experimental table.”
His words triggered some grey memories for Qingshi. He quickly took down the assistants who stepped forward to grab him. He picked up a piece of broken glass from the floor to stab at Bai Lin, but at the moment he drew near, a bout of dizziness caused him to collapse to the ground.
“Damn it, what on earth did Bai Lin do to him?”
“Has Captain Ji never heard the saying that a wise man submits to circumstances?” Bai Lin stood with his hands in his pockets, looking down coldly at Qingshi kneeling on the ground. He then looked at the two assistants also on the floor. “Two useless wastes. What are you dazing for? Get him onto the table immediately!”
“Yes!” The two assistants were physically tall and strong, but at this moment they were like cowering quails, not daring to breathe loudly. They scrambled up and lifted Qingshi onto the experimental table.
“Flip him over.” Bai Lin directed them to turn Qingshi over.
Once the two had secured Qingshi, Bai Lin stepped forward. His gloved hand traced over Qingshi’s cervical, thoracic, and lumbar vertebrae in sequence.
“Does Captain Ji want to know what I am taking today?”
Qingshi looked at Bai Lin from the side, his jaw muscles tight.
“Heh,” Bai Lin’s finger stopped below the fourth lumbar vertebra. “I will use a nine-centimeter steel needle to pierce through your spine right here and extract your bone marrow.”
Qingshi knew he was saying this to intimidate him, but fear still uncontrollably rose in his heart. He closed his eyes, using his eyelids to hide the weakness in his gaze.
When the cold disinfectant dripped onto his back, he instinctively clenched his fists.
“Argh!” The moment the steel needle pierced his skin, a scream escaped Qingshi’s mouth. The following sounds were forced back into his throat. His fingernails scraped against the metal table, making a harsh, screeching noise.
The two assistants watching turned their eyes away, unable to bear Qingshi’s pained expression.
Mr. Bai Lin was actually extracting bone marrow without even giving the man anesthesia.
Jia’s moving figure paused. He clutched the area over his heart, his pupils shrinking to the size of pinpricks.
An uncontrollable agony radiated from inside his left chest. Jia knew this was coming from his mate. Someone was hurting him!
“Who is it? Damn you!” A roar rolled from his throat, and Jia’s snake tail began to thrash against the ground uncontrollably.
Once the wave of pain subsided, he stopped moving. His gaze shifted from the ravaged ground toward the distance, the direction where Qingshi was.
After taking a deep look in that direction, he turned his body and sped off in a different direction.
