- Male Lead, Please Don’t Covet the Mob Character Cannon Fodder (Quick Transmigration)
- Chapter 15 - The Physician (15)
The male lead was becoming increasingly clingy. Every day, Song Qingshi lived a life where he barely had to lift a finger for food or clothing. He knew deep down that this could not continue. Even as someone socially oblivious, he knew the male lead’s feelings for him had surpassed mere goodwill. If things went on like this, even if the male lead recovered his memories, would he truly be able to kill him?
Song Qingshi wanted to find a way to leave the General’s Mansion first, wait for the male lead’s feelings to cool down, and then return once the memories were restored. However, Gu Jiuli followed him like a shadow.
Finally, with the arrival of the Yelu envoys in Yancheng, Gu Jiuli became busy. Yet, even when Song Qingshi went out, a long line of guards from the mansion followed him. As a blind man, he had no idea how to even begin running away.
He was so worried he was practically balding, but a turning point finally occurred on his way back from delivering clothes to Song Qingyu.
A heavy money bag was tossed onto the table in front of Song Qingshi.
“Song Qingshi, I give you two choices. Either take this money and fly far away, or become an anonymous corpse in the mass grave.” Qi Fei, dressed in men’s clothing and wearing a bamboo hat, stood with her arms crossed and one foot on a stool while threatening him.
Although her second cousin told her not to provoke Gu Jiuli, she could not let the grudge of her ruined face go. She could not touch Gu Jiuli, but she refused to believe she could not handle a mere male entertainer by his side.
Seeing Song Qingshi remain silent, Qi Fei slammed her hands onto the table. “A person from the countryside is not worthy of staying beside Great General Gu. Get back to your little village as soon as possible. Yancheng is not a place for people like you.”
Song Qingshi, who had been abducted from the street, heard the female voice and sighed inwardly.
This was truly like someone handing him a pillow just as he was getting sleepy.
He reached out, took the money bag, and cupped his hands in a polite bow. “In that case, I thank the lady for her generosity.”
Qi Fei was stunned by his cooperative attitude. Should this person not be crying about his deep affection for General Gu, forcing her to throw him out of Yancheng by force?
“Consider, consider yourself sensible!”
“If the lady wishes to send me out of the city, please do so as quickly as possible before Jiuli finds out. I will do my best to cooperate.” Song Qingshi felt no obvious malice from Qi Fei, so he decided to use her help to temporarily leave Yancheng.
“Fine!” Qi Fei smiled triumphantly and commanded, “Chunzhi, take him to the carriage.”
“Yes.”
Song Qingshi did not dare return to Shajia Village. He rented a courtyard in a small village about three to five days’ journey from Yancheng.
He figured that with the vast territory of Great Qi, Gu Jiuli would not be able to find him immediately. Moreover, with the Yelu envoys in Yancheng, the man should not be able to spare much time or manpower to search for him.
As Song Qingshi expected, he had lived in this village, named Lingxiu Village, for over a month without hearing any news from Yancheng about a search for him.
Now, he just had to wait for Gu Jiuli to recover his memories.
Song Qingshi thought so as he leaned against the table while drinking tea.
The door was tapped.
Song Qingshi went to open it.
“Physician Song,” Hehua looked at the handsome young man shyly. “This is tofu I made with my own hands. Please take it and have a taste.” She reached out to hand the bowl to Song Qingshi.
“Sister Hehua, I appreciate the kindness,” Song Qingshi pushed it back politely. “I cannot accept this.”
“Physician Song, you cured my mother’s headache. We have no other way to thank you but with two pieces of fresh tofu. Please do not reject it.”
“Sigh, how could I reject it?” Song Qingshi said helplessly. “It is just that you have sent it for seven consecutive days. I cannot eat much alone. Please do not let it go to waste.”
“Physician Song, you do not understand. She does not just want to send tofu,” a glamorous young woman carrying an exquisite small basket approached them while swaying her hips. “What she wants to send is likely herself!”
Hehua’s face instantly turned bright red. “Auntie Jinju, do not talk nonsense!”
Jinju covered her mouth with a handkerchief. “Nonsense? Girl, your eyes are practically glued to Physician Song. I have never seen you be this bold before.”
“You!” Hehua stomped her foot and ran away in embarrassment.
Song Qingshi, who only felt a gust of wind pass him, was slightly awkward. The women in Lingxiu Village were far more passionate than those in Shajia Village, making them difficult for him to handle.
“Sister Jinju, why have you come today?”
Jinju was a famous widow in Lingxiu Village. She was beautiful and graceful, with a particular fondness for handsome young men.
Jinju looked at the tall Song Qingshi and stepped forward, thrusting the basket into his hands. “Physician Song, I feel a bit hot today, and my head is dizzy. I wanted to trouble you to take a look.”
“Sister Jinju, I cannot accept this.” Song Qingshi tried to return the basket, but Jinju grabbed his hand and pulled it toward her body, scaring him into quickly pulling back.
“It is just a few small pastries I made myself; consider it the consultation fee,” Jinju laughed.
Song Qingshi sighed softly. “Alright, let me take your pulse first.”
Jinju pressed the back of her hand against Song Qingshi’s chest. “Physician Song, please.”
Song Qingshi grasped her wrist, moved it down, and began taking the pulse.
As the pulse revealed itself, Song Qingshi’s brow furrowed slightly.
Seeing his expression, Jinju asked curiously, “What is it, Physician Song? Have I contracted some major illness?”
“Not exactly,” Song Qingshi released her hand and spoke his conclusion hesitantly. “Sister Jinju, this appears to be a pregnancy pulse.”
“What kind of joke is that?!” Jinju shouted in disbelief. She instinctively looked around and relaxed slightly only after finding no one else nearby.
“Physician Song, you know my husband has been gone for over ten years. This pregnancy pulse must be a mistake on your part, right?” Jinju leaned close to Song Qingshi and whispered.
Song Qingshi took a step back and cupped his hands toward her. “Yes, my skills are lacking. I have misdiagnosed it.”
Jinju let out a sigh of relief. “That is good. I have other matters to attend to today, so I will not trouble you further.”
“Take care.”
Jinju hurried away from the front of Song Qingshi’s courtyard, heading who knows where.
“Finally, they are all gone,” Song Qingshi sighed to himself. He prepared to close the gate, but it would not shut due to some resistance. He stopped and murmured in confusion, “What is happening?”
“Young Master.”
The raspy, low voice that appeared at the door was very familiar to Song Qingshi. Hearing it, his entire body stiffened.
“Young Master, I have been looking for you like a madman, yet you are here having fun with women. What do you take me for? A servant to be discarded after use?” Gu Jiuli stood at the door with a gloomy face and dark circles under his eyes.
Song Qingshi could not speak; his feet instinctively moved backward.
“Heh, Young Master, where else do you want to run?” Gu Jiuli stepped forward and gripped Song Qingshi’s arm tightly.
“I,” Song Qingshi stammered. In the next second, he was hoisted onto a shoulder. “Jiuli!” The sudden loss of balance made him cry out in surprise.
Gu Jiuli carried him into the room and threw him onto the bed.
Song Qingshi was not hurt by the fall, but he was startled. Before he could crawl up, a heavy body pressed him down.
“Jiuli, you, what are you doing,” Song Qingshi swallowed, feeling uneasy.
Gu Jiuli tore off Song Qingshi’s blindfold and watched crystal tears flow from those light-colored peach-blossom eyes. He leaned in to kiss them gently. “Why? Why did you leave me? Was I not good to you, Young Master?”
“No, it is not that,” Song Qingshi closed his eyelids, yet he could still feel Gu Jiuli’s warm breath falling softly on his eyelids again and again.
“Young Master, you know my heart, do you not?”
Song Qingshi pursed his lips and did not answer.
“Young Master, you are so smart, how could you not know?” Gu Jiuli gripped Song Qingshi’s chin and looked down at him from above. “Young Master noticed my feelings and wanted to escape, did you not?”
“Did I make you feel disgusted?”
“No,” Song Qingshi shook his head. “Jiuli, let me get up first.”
Gu Jiuli’s eyes were dark, and he did not move an inch. “Let you go? If I let you go, where will you run to next? Which pretty girl will you go flirt with?”
“Young Master, do you know how jealous I was at the door? How much I wanted to kill that shameless woman!”
Song Qingshi suddenly opened his eyes and grabbed Gu Jiuli’s hand. “No, you cannot.”
“I can!” Seeing him defend that fickle woman Jinju so much, the fire of jealousy rose in Gu Jiuli’s heart.
“Jiuli! Please do not, I do not like her,” Song Qingshi lowered his eyelids and said.
Gu Jiuli panted and remained silent for a while. “Then who do you like, Song Qingshi?”
Song Qingshi gritted his teeth and turned his head, unwilling to speak.
Gu Jiuli forcibly turned his head back. “Speak. Say it, and I will let you go today.”
Another tear track appeared at the corner of his eye. “No, I do not have anyone I like.”
“Heh,” Gu Jiuli chuckled and repeated, “No one you like?”
“Young Master, you truly are heartless.”
The bitterness and pain in the man’s tone caused a sharp ache in Song Qingshi’s heart. But they, one was the male lead chosen by the world and the other was a task-taker destined to die. There was never a possibility for them.
“I have said it. Can you let me go now?”
“Not a chance!”
A drop of scalding liquid fell on the corner of Song Qingshi’s eye. Then, a hot tongue broke into his mouth, occupying and intertwining. The scent belonging to another person forcefully pushed into his body.
“Mmph!” Song Qingshi pressed his hands against Gu Jiuli’s chest, trying to push him away, only to have his wrists caught and pinned above his head.
His tightly clenched fingers were forced open one by one as Gu Jiuli interlocked his fingers with Song Qingshi’s.
“Ha, Gu Jiu, Gu Jiuli, let, let me go, please,” In the gaps between breaths, Song Qingshi pleaded for mercy.
“Never!”
Song Qingshi woke up in a swaying carriage. He moved his body, feeling as if a cart had run over him, sore and weak.
“Young Master, you are awake?”
Gu Jiuli’s voice came from above. Song Qingshi realized he was currently lying in the man’s arms.
Song Qingshi wanted to speak, but a dry, thirsty itch came from his throat. In the next second, warm water was offered to his lips. He drank half a cup before the thirst in his heart was suppressed.
Gu Jiuli set down the water cup and chuckled. “I am sorry, Young Master. I was reckless.”
Song Qingshi indicated he did not want to speak to him. Everything that should and should not have been done was finished; what use was an afterthought now?
Song Qingshi asked: “886, the male lead is like this. Is the plot still okay?”
886: “Emm, it should be fine. Has the male lead not still lost his memory? Perhaps once his memory returns, everything will get back on track.”
Song Qingshi: “I hope so.”
In a daze, Song Qingshi fell asleep again.
When he woke up, the sound of clashing blades rang in his ears, and the pungent smell of blood filled his nose.
He tugged on the clothes of the person holding him. “What happened?”
Gu Jiuli’s raspy voice appeared in his ear. “Young Master, hold me tight.”
Song Qingshi instinctively reached out to wrap his arms around the man’s neck. In the next second, the two of them plummeted downward.
Seconds later, they crashed through layers of branches and slammed heavily onto the ground.
Protected in Gu Jiuli’s arms, Song Qingshi only suffered a few scratches. However, he patted the person beneath him, his voice trembling in a way he did not even notice. “Gu Jiuli, are you alright?”
