- Chapter 14 - Physician (14)
“Ah!”
Early in the morning, a shrill scream echoed from the Weiyang Palace, where the Fifth Princess resided.
Qi Fei stared in disbelief at her reflection in the bronze mirror, her face covered in red pustules. “Ah! Who did this?!”
Across the room, the servant girls knelt on the floor, trembling. No one dared to answer.
“Fifth Princess, the Imperial Physician has arrived outside the hall. Would you like to see him?”
“Get out! Tell him to get out!” Qi Fei swept the expensive jewelry off her table onto the floor. Feeling that was not enough, she smashed the teapots and cups one by one into pieces.
She was the dignified Fifth Princess of the Great Qi Dynasty. If her current pathetic state were publicized, she had no idea how those wretched women would mock her. She was particularly concerned about Qi Miao, who had always been at odds with her; she would certainly come to laugh in person.
Thinking of this, Qi Fei glared fiercely at the long line of people kneeling on the floor. “No one is allowed to speak a word of what happened to me today. Otherwise, I will have your tongues pulled out and fed to the dogs!”
“Who provoked Cousin Fei Fei so early in the morning?” Shen Nuo, who had just finished the morning court session, came to Weiyang Palace to visit Qi Fei. He heard her threatening the palace servants as soon as he entered the hall.
“Second Cousin! Waaaah!” Qi Fei threw herself into Shen Nuo’s arms and began to sob.
Shen Nuo waved his hand to dismiss the palace servants.
“What is wrong? Are you feeling unwell?” Shen Nuo patted her back and comforted her. “I saw you blocking the Imperial Physician outside. Did something happen?”
Qi Fei looked up, sobbing, to show him her unrecognizable face. “Second Cousin, I am disfigured! Waaaah!”
“This… how did this happen?” Looking at Qi Fei’s originally beautiful face turned into this state, Shen Nuo frowned deeply. “Did you use something you should not have?”
“No, I woke up like this.”
“Fei Fei, have you offended anyone recently?” Such a sudden breakout was likely not due to natural causes; it was probably intentional.
“I did not.” Qi Fei started to deny it, but she suddenly recalled the events of yesterday. She clapped her hands. “I know! It was Gu Jiuli! It must be him!”
“How could this involve General Gu?” Shen Nuo asked in confusion.
Qi Fei stammered, “I… yesterday at the Summer Lotus Banquet, I sent that male entertainer Gu Jiuli bought to my third brother’s bed.”
“But!” Seeing the disapproval in Shen Nuo’s eyes, she raised her voice. “But Gu Jiuli rescued him. Nothing happened at all!”
Shen Nuo tapped her head twice in frustration. “You are quite bold, are you not? You dare to do anything!”
Qi Fei covered her head and said aggrievedly, “I did it all for your lifelong happiness, Second Cousin.”
Shen Nuo let out a deep sigh. “Fei Fei, I appreciate your good intentions. However, matters of the heart are not as simple as you think. Even if General Gu had no one else by his side, he and I would not easily share our hearts.”
Qi Fei pouted. “Oh.”
“Fine. I will go see General Gu later to apologize on your behalf.”
“Why?! Second Cousin, you cannot go!” Qi Fei grabbed Shen Nuo’s arm to stop him from leaving.
Shen Nuo looked at her helplessly. “Why? Do you want to keep living with a face like that?”
“I… fine.” Qi Fei deflated.
General’s Manor, Study.
Qingshi had asked Gu Jiuli to borrow paper and a brush to write a prescription for Qi Chao, so Gu Jiuli had brought him directly to the study.
Watching Qingshi write seriously, Gu Jiuli suddenly recalled how he had pretended to be a fool to let the young man teach him how to write during his amnesia. His eyes darkened as he stood up and walked toward Qingshi, who was just about to set the brush down.
“What is it?” Qingshi asked in confusion when his hand was suddenly grasped.
Gu Jiuli circled him from behind, leaning down close to Qingshi. “Young Master, I suddenly remembered the words you taught me. Would you like to check the results?”
“Pardon? How do we check?” Qingshi was puzzled.
Gu Jiuli’s hand completely covered Qingshi’s, leading him to write two names on the paper: “Song Qingshi” and “Gu Jiuli.”
“Young Master, how is my writing?”
“It is quite good, but your handwriting carries too much murderous intent. It is not suitable for this style. You should…” Qingshi’s serious critique was cut short by Gu Jiuli’s next move.
Qingshi grabbed the arm circled around his waist. “Jiuli, you…”
“Young Master Qingshi, I think it is quite suitable.” Gu Jiuli opened his mouth and bit the tip of Qingshi’s ear, using his own teeth marks to cover the faint traces left from yesterday.
“Mhm!” Qingshi’s body trembled and his legs felt weak. He nearly fell, but Gu Jiuli’s arm around his waist supported him.
“Young Master, I wanted to do this in the carriage yesterday,” Gu Jiuli murmured as he gently ground the soft flesh in his mouth. “But you were too fragile then. I was afraid I would lose control and hurt you, so I did not move.”
Gu Jiuli released the now bright red earlobe and asked, “Where else did he touch you yesterday?”
“Ha… Jiuli, let me… let go of me first.” Qingshi was trapped in that small space, unable to struggle, and pleaded for mercy.
Gu Jiuli held Qingshi’s chin with one hand and slid his index finger into the warm, moist mouth. “If you do not want to say it, then fine. I will check every inch of you just the same.”
Qingshi was forced to keep his mouth open as the rough finger rubbed against the tender flesh inside. He grabbed Gu Jiuli’s hand with both of his own, trying to pull it out, but it remained motionless.
“Cough… No more… there was nowhere else.”
Gu Jiuli, who had been pecking at Qingshi’s neck, slowly raised his head. He withdrew his finger and left a kiss on the corner of Qingshi’s mouth. “I apologize, Young Master. I was out of line.”
Qingshi’s heart pounded violently. What was wrong with this Male Lead? Even if he did not hate him, he should not be treating him with such intimacy. He was the one who was drugged yesterday, not Gu Jiuli!
“General, Master Shen Nuo is outside requesting an audience.”
Li Ming’s voice broke the strange atmosphere in the study. Hearing the report, Gu Jiuli gave a cold snort. “Show him in.”
“Jiuli, since you have a guest, I will leave first.”
“You stay and listen too.” Gu Jiuli led Qingshi to a chair in the meeting area of the study with a tone that allowed no refusal.
Shen Nuo was stunned when he entered and saw the two sitting there. “Shen Nuo pays his respects to General Gu and Master Song.”
Gu Jiuli curled his lips into a smile and did not invite him to sit. “To what do I owe the honor of Master Shen visiting my manor today?”
“My sister was unruly and offended Master Song yesterday. I have come to apologize on her behalf.”
“Oh? I was unaware that Master Shen had a sister.” Gu Jiuli rested his head on his hand and looked at Shen Nuo with interest.
Shen Nuo replied, “The Fifth Princess is my cousin. General Gu! I have already disciplined her. Could you please stop being so difficult with her? Destroying the face of a young woman is truly not the act of a gentleman.”
Gu Jiuli sneered. “I never claimed to be a gentleman. However, the matter with the Princess was not my doing. Perhaps she has done too many shameful things and encountered a ghost.”
“General Gu! You!” A flash of anger appeared in Shen Nuo’s eyes.
“Li Ming, see the guest out.” Gu Jiuli did not want to speak further and directly dismissed him.
Qingshi had heard everything. It turned out that what happened to him yesterday was the work of the Fifth Princess, Shen Nuo’s cousin. Did he accidentally stumble into the plot between the Male Lead and his official partner?
886, has the World Consciousness come looking for you lately?
System 886: “Baaa? Why?”
It is nothing.
Phew, that was a relief. It seemed there was no negative impact.
As Shen Nuo walked out of the General’s Manor, he ran into the Third Prince, Qi Chao.
Watching the Third Prince enter the manor, Shen Nuo frowned slightly. Since when did the Third Prince and General Gu have a connection? Could it be because of yesterday’s events?
After the final session to purge the toxins from Qi Chao’s body, Qingshi packed away his golden needles. Suddenly, his hands were grasped. “Physician Song, thank you so much for curing me. I was born in the palace and have seen many cold looks because of my mother’s low status. This is the first time in my life someone has been so kind to me. I…”
Qi Chao was interrupted by Gu Jiuli before he could finish. Gu Jiuli pulled Qingshi back into the crook of his arm, claiming him with a highly possessive posture. “Third Prince, the toxins are gone. How much longer do you intend to stay at my manor?”
Stingy guy! Qi Chao rolled his eyes privately. “Physician Song, General Gu has such a terrible temper. If you ever find him unbearable, you are welcome to come to me. I know how to cherish a person much better than he does.”
Gu Jiuli gritted his teeth and glared at him, his eyes burning with fury.
“Uh, the Third Prince must be joking,” Qingshi said awkwardly.
“Li Ming, see the guest out!” One of Gu Jiuli’s eyes said “hurry” and the other said “begone.”
Qi Chao shrugged and was politely escorted out by Li Ming.
After Qi Chao left, Qingshi said to Gu Jiuli, “Jiuli, I want to go to the street today to buy a couple of outfits for Qingyu.”
“I will go with you.”
Qingshi sighed. Ever since that day in the study, the Male Lead’s attitude toward him had become increasingly intimate. If he were not being watched so closely, he would have probably run as far away as possible. He felt that if things continued this way, something very unfortunate would happen.
“There is no need, right? You still have official duties to handle. I can go alone.”
“Li Ming, prepare the carriage.” Gu Jiuli ignored him and gave the order while holding Qingshi’s hand.
At that moment, Qingshi realized that since he arrived at the General’s Manor, the bamboo staff he used to use to feel his way around was no longer needed.
Qingshi tried to pull his hand away, but it was held even tighter.
Gu Jiuli chose a quiet and elegant clothing pavilion. Aside from being expensive, it had no flaws.
With Gu Jiuli’s help, Qingshi selected several sets of clothes that fit Song Qingyu’s build. After paying the bill, Gu Jiuli was in no hurry to leave. Instead, he asked the shopkeeper to bring in two more sets of clothes.
“Jiuli, are you buying clothes too?” Qingshi asked.
Gu Jiuli laughed softly. “Not for me. These are for you, Young Master. These two are made from the dark blue silk newly produced in Jinzhou. They should suit you very well.”
“I… I do not need them. The clothes you have prepared for me are already enough.” Qingshi shook his head in refusal.
“But I want to buy them for you.” Gu Jiuli stepped in front of Qingshi and reached out to untie his belt. “Let me help you try them on.”
Qingshi reacted instinctively and grabbed his hand. “No need! I can do it myself.”
Gu Jiuli gripped Qingshi’s hand in return, his voice low and melancholic. “I used to dress you all the time. Why is it not allowed now?”
“You have been distancing yourself from me these past few days. Was I too reckless that day and frightened you?”
“I was simply angry that someone else touched you.”
Qingshi felt as though he were looking at a pitiful puppy with its ears flattened, staring at him with tearful eyes. He opened his mouth and found he could not say no. “You… you dress me then.”
Gu Jiuli let out a soft laugh. “Very well, Young Master.”
Gu Jiuli helped Qingshi into the new clothes. He placed his hands around Qingshi’s waist. “Everything else is fine, but the waist does not fit well. Your waist is too thin.”
Qingshi held onto his arms for balance. “Is there not a belt?”
“A belt is only a decorative accessory. If it is tied too tightly, it will affect the look.” Gu Jiuli released him and looked him over carefully. “However, this color truly suits you. We will buy some fabric later and have the tailor at the manor measure you properly.”
Ultimately, Gu Jiuli bought a mountain of fabric for Qingshi, claiming it was to find the most suitable one.
