Male Lead, Let Go of That Heroine—Let Me! [Quick Transmigration] - Chapter 1
Chapter 1
“Yan Hui, how could you not ask me first… and just sign the contract without permission?!”
A roar of exasperated rage startled Yan Hui, who had just been transported into this body. In an instant, her mind was flooded with all the information regarding this world. As per usual, every character she inhabited across these planes shared her own name: Yan Hui.
Yan Hui looked at the contract on the desk. The cover bore four large words: Stimulating Life. It was a live-streamed reality show. Their manager, Song Lan, had never intended for the group to participate. Being a live broadcast, the risks were too high. The group Q&K was already a target of public ridicule; joining this show would essentially make them a lightning rod for the production team’s hate. No one expected Yan Hui to be so stubborn as to sign the contract behind their backs. If they were to break the contract now, not only would Q&K’s reputation plummet further, but they would also have to pay an exorbitant penalty fee.
Yan Hui flipped to the last page. The penalty was 20 million—a staggering amount. With their group’s current value, they would have to work themselves to death for three years just to pay it off.
Song Lan’s blood pressure was skyrocketing from Yan Hui’s wilfulness. She leaned against the table for support. “How many times have I said it? We cannot do this show! Why do you always act on your own? Look at that penalty! 20 million! Yan Hui, your family is rich, but you can’t just satisfy your own whims and ignore whether your teammates live or die!”
Yan Hui glanced at the three girls sitting nearby. They had distinct styles and were quite beautiful—especially the girl sitting at the very front. She was the “Female Lead” of this world, the leader and main vocalist of Q&K, Zong Yue. She was an all-rounder; most of the group’s songs were written and composed by her. The second girl was the dance lead, Fang Xiaoxiao, and the third was the rapper, Xiao Su.
They were a group pieced together from a survival show. The other three had made it through sheer talent, while the original owner of this body had used her background and family wealth to manipulate her way into the group. If the original Yan Hui had one redeeming quality, it was her face—she was the “visual” of the group.
However, aside from her face, everything else was a disaster. She sang out of tune, slacked off during dance practice, and had a nasty “young miss” temper. She was arrogant, domineering, and disrespectful to her elders. Her behavior had led to her being viciously cursed by fans, dragging the rest of Q&&K down with her. If not for Zong Yue’s talent in songwriting, the group would have been dead long ago. Currently, people only remembered two things about Q&K: Zong Yue is a great singer, and there’s a psychopath in the group named Yan Hui.
Even with Yan Hui’s constant trouble-making, the company and the group didn’t dare speak up. When this young lady went “mad,” she once beat up the company boss. The very next day, the boss was replaced; the agency, Fengxiang Entertainment, was bought out by the Yan Group. From that day on, everyone lived in fear of her.
“Sister Song Lan, don’t say any more.” Zong Yue stood up and patted Song Lan’s back. “We’ll go. We’ll just treat it as extra exposure.”
Zong Yue had a very recognizable voice—a “smoky” tone, but not the heavy kind found in men. It was unique, slightly husky yet clear, the kind of sound that made one’s heart skip a beat.
“This is different! What kind of ‘exposure’ is this? If Q&K goes, there’s only one outcome: death. Understand?” Song Lan grabbed the contract and pointed at the clauses. “Look! These are predatory terms! Yan Hui, are you insane? You signed without even reading them?!”
Song Lan was done holding back. She had cleaned up after Yan Hui too many times. This time, it felt like Yan Hui was trying to kill the group she had worked so hard to build.
“Sister Song Lan, don’t…” Xiao Su tried to intervene. She looked at Yan Hui and tried to smooth things over. “Yan Hui, she didn’t mean it like that. It’s just… we were caught off guard. We aren’t… we aren’t blaming you.”
“Xiao Su, stand aside. Don’t make excuses for me.” Song Lan looked directly at Yan Hui. “I’ve been with this group for a year. I’ve put in the work. You’re a rich young lady, you do whatever you want. If you want to play around so badly, why don’t you go solo? Why stay in a group? You have a big family and a powerful father, but have you ever thought about your teammates?!”
Yan Hui watched Song Lan calmly. The manager had lost her mind with rage. Yan Hui didn’t argue; she just listened. Zong Yue watched Yan Hui closely, fearing she might get violent. But Yan Hui didn’t shout back like usual; she just sat there, listening to the grievances.
Zong Yue frowned. Something was wrong with Yan Hui today.
“I’m not afraid of you firing me,” Song Lan continued, rolling up her sleeves. “I’m quitting. I’m done with Fengxiang Entertainment. I clearly don’t have the ability to handle a ‘Great Buddha’ like you. I’ll take Zong Yue and the others and find another way. You can have this company to yourself. Play however you want, join whatever show you want. I won’t stop you.”
“Sister Song Lan, don’t go!” The young assistant, He Jie, burst into tears at the sight of the chaos.
Song Lan felt bad for He Jie. Fengxiang was a top-tier agency with great pay and resources. If she didn’t have to manage the nightmare that was Yan Hui, she would have thrived here. But as it stood, her name was feared in the industry simply for being Yan Hui’s manager.
“Don’t cry, He Jie.” Song Lan touched the girl’s head. “I’m sorry, but I’ve done my best. I’m only thirty; I don’t want to die of stress yet.”
Song Lan looked at the other three. “I’m leaving. Are you coming with me?”
Xiao Su and Fang Xiaoxiao looked at Zong Yue. Song Lan looked at Zong Yue. But Zong Yue was looking at the silent Yan Hui.
“Are you finished?” Yan Hui rubbed her forehead and looked at Song Lan. “Now that you’ve had your say, is it my turn?”
Song Lan, having reached the point of no return, lifted her chin defiantly. “Let’s hear it.”
Yan Hui looked at the sobbing He Jie. “If you cry one more time, I’m throwing you out the window.”
He Jie stopped crying instantly.
Song Lan stepped in front of He Jie, indignant. “Yan Hui, now you’re threatening to kill people?”
“Her crying gives me a headache.” Yan Hui picked up the crumpled contract and looked at it. She sneered. “It’s just a signed contract. Is there a need for all this drama about life and death?”
“Just a contract?” Song Lan scoffed. “That is a death warrant. Q&K joining that show is suicide.”
Yan Hui flipped to the last page and pointed at the signature with a smirk. “Even if it is suicide, I’m the one doing it. What are you all panicking for?”
Song Lan froze. She looked at where Yan Hui was pointing. “What do you mean…”
“Does a ‘Great Manager’ like you not know how to read?” Yan Hui tapped the table and looked at Xiao Su. “Read the name on the signature.”
Xiao Su licked her lips. “…Yan Hui.”
“Smart girl.”
Xiao Su felt strangely insulted by the praise.
“Look closely. The person who signed this is me, Yan Hui. It has nothing to do with Q&K. I am participating in this reality show, not the whole group. So…” Yan Hui looked at Zong Yue and curled her lips. “I am the one going on the show, I am the one who will be cursed, and I am the one going to ‘my death.’ What the hell are you all afraid of?”
Song Lan realized what she meant. Since Yan Hui signed as an individual, they could throw her out as a solo participant. The public’s hatred would be concentrated solely on her, sparing the rest of the group. It was essentially sacrificing one person to save the whole team.
But… was Yan Hui really that selfless?
Song Lan asked warily, “You… what’s your angle?”
Yan Hui stood up and stretched her arms. Song Lan and the others instinctively recoiled a few steps. Zong Yue stepped forward to shield Song Lan, her voice deep: “Yan Hui, stay calm.”
Yan Hui saw their terrified expressions and laughed. “What? Afraid I’ll bite?”
The crowd mentally nodded. Yes, you bite, and you draw blood like a rabid dog.
Yan Hui walked up to Zong Yue. The Female Lead didn’t show fear, only a blatant, undisguised loathing.
Yan Hui looked at Song Lan, who was hiding behind Zong Yue. “Go talk to the production team. I’ll show up for the recording on time. I signed this alone. Tell them to give up the idea of the whole of Q&K appearing. If they try to play foul, I don’t mind bringing in the Yan Group’s legal team to ‘chat’ with them.”
“That’s all.” Yan Hui checked the time; it was past 10 PM. She yawned. “I’m going to sleep. You guys can keep chatting.”
As Yan Hui left the meeting room, everyone let out a collective breath of relief, clutching their chests in fear that she might have suddenly snapped.
The moment Yan Hui returned to her room, a system notification rang in her ear:
