Love Notebook of a Reclusive Beautiful Boy - Chapter 17
Chapter 17
It was a small, uncolored butterfly, looking as though it had been cut out from somewhere.
It lay quietly in the palm of Du Yu’s hand.
It was nothing more than a fake butterfly; even if it were a real one, it wouldn’t be anything rare or unusual.
However, seeing Du Yu looking so secret and mysterious—as if he had obtained some sort of precious treasure—Jiang Sheng could not bear to disrupt this rare little joy of his.
He smiled slightly. “Where did it come from?”
Du Yu pointed toward the drawer.
“Discovered inside the drawer?” Jiang Sheng asked.
Du Yu nodded his head.
Immediately following that, he extended his hand. His features were peaceful, and his youthful voice said softly, “For you…”
Jiang Sheng froze for an instant. “For me?”
Du Yu’s thick, long eyelashes blinked. Compared to Jiang Sheng, his facial features appeared slightly immature and youthful; the contours were not yet sharp and distinct, carrying a softness that seemed to come from his very bones.
Du Yu nodded lightly, the voice he spoke with extremely slow. “For A-Sheng… A-Sheng also wants to fly the butterfly together…”
This was probably the longest sentence Jiang Sheng had heard him speak during this entire period of getting along.
The words were not clear enough, but fortunately, it was a massive amount of progress.
No one can grow up all at once; it always requires growing step-by-step.
Jiang Sheng guessed the meaning in Du Yu’s words and said with a smile, “A-Yu still wants to fly a kite?”
“Want to.”
Du Yu replied softly.
Jiang Sheng said in a warm voice, “Alright, next time I’ll take A-Yu there again.”
Du Yu’s eyes lit up, and his open palm extended forward slightly, meaning he wanted to give this butterfly to Jiang Sheng.
Jiang Sheng took a glance. It wasn’t to say he disliked it, it could only be said that he appreciated Du Yu’s kind intentions, but as for this paper butterfly, it would be better for Du Yu to keep it himself rather than for him to take it.
Jiang Sheng smiled. “A-Yu should keep it to play with yourself.”
Du Yu had no intention of listening to him. He simply kept his hand extended, his clean gaze looking at him, without saying a single word.
Sometimes, he truly was incredibly stubborn.
Jiang Sheng let out a laugh, compromising after all as he took it from his hand.
Pinching its wings, he said softly, “Thank you, A-Yu.”
Du Yu’s eyes and brows curved into a smile. “One for A-Sheng, one for A-Yu…”
Jiang Sheng placed the paper butterfly on the desk and spoke to him, “Where is A-Yu’s?”
Du Yu turned his face and pointed toward the sky. The dark blue sky was bright with beautiful sunlight, and thin layers of clouds gathered together, but unfortunately, there was absolutely nothing in the direction he was pointing.
Jiang Sheng tilted his head, raised his eyes to look, and asked, “Where?”
Du Yu pointed at the sky, his gaze gradually becoming somewhat entranced.
He didn’t explain, nor did he know how to explain.
What he wanted to say was simply to tell Jiang Sheng that his butterfly was the one flying in the sky—the butterfly kite he had flown together with his older brother. Perhaps now, another person, Jiang Sheng, could be added.
He still hadn’t walked out of the past; to him, the butterfly would forever be the one from ten years ago.
Sitting in the classroom, these moving figures of the class and the laughing, playing faces of the teenage boys and girls were nothing more than hurried passersby in his seven-year-old life.
Ten years—one-tenth of a person’s life—had been deliberately forgotten by him.
Perhaps in the future, a person would appear, taking him on an express train of the soul, passing through these forgotten ten years like a whirlwind tour, and then telling him: “Du Yu, you are already seventeen years old. The plane trees in front of the door have all grown tall, and your father has also grown old. Since the last time you went out, ten years have actually already passed.”
And then he would suddenly come to his senses, discovering that he had actually missed out on ten years of his life.
But could such a highly efficient outcome truly be realized?
Or rather, could that person truly appear?
Du Yu’s clear and pure gaze looked at Jiang Sheng, a bright light carrying within the depths of his eyes. He understood nothing, only stubbornly pointing at the sky.
Jiang Sheng didn’t quite understand either. Du Yu had his own thoughts, and it wasn’t guaranteed that Jiang Sheng could capture the key point of every single sentence.
Just as he was about to say something, Liang Sinian suddenly came over and sat down.
He glanced at Du Yu. “I know everything now! After class that day, I was called by Jun-zai to play ball, otherwise I definitely would have helped you! Are you alright?”
Du Yu had absolutely no reaction.
Liang Sinian turned his face helplessly, just happening to catch sight of Jiang Sheng. “Wow, so you are the officer they were talking about. I heard you’re really amazing.”
Jiang Sheng didn’t answer his words. He thought to himself that this was the first person in the class to approach Du Yu. He could also tell that this wealthy family’s son was a bit of a chatterbox, plus his IQ didn’t seem to be very high. When it came to Du Yu making friends, it was clearly not very suitable for him to make friends with high-IQ people.
Seeing that Jiang Sheng showed no reaction, Liang Sinian said somewhat speechlessly, “So boring… not a single one of you responds to people…”
Before he could finish speaking, he was interrupted by Jiang Sheng: “Sit in the front.”
“Ah, what did you say?” Liang Sinian scratched his head.
“Telling you to sit in front.”
Liang Sinian smiled. “Ah, no need! It’s all the same to me wherever I sit.”
Jiang Sheng looked at him, his gaze peaceful and without any ripples.
After a good while, Liang Sinian: “Alright then.”
He packed up his things and sat down in front of Jiang Sheng and Du Yu. Right at this moment, Liao Wenqian walked in.
She had already received the news yesterday that Du Yanyu’s son had been bullied, and that Du Yanyu had specially sent a bodyguard over to accompany him in his studies.
In the teachers’ morning meeting held today, she had even been called out and criticized by name; she had lost all her face.
The students in St. Paul’s were almost all young masters and young ladies of wealthy families, so sending bodyguards into the school for protection was actually nothing unusual. But sending a bodyguard into the classroom to accompany a student in studies—this was the very first instance.
And all of these reasons were due to her ineffective management.
The moment she came in, she caught sight of the man beside Du Yu with a single glance.
His hair was slicked back, his appearance handsome, and his temperament was somewhat cold and sharp.
She coughed twice. “Regarding the matter from a few days ago, all of you already know about it. I must clarify one point: St. Paul’s strictly prohibits student bullying. I hope you understand that you came to St. Paul’s to receive a higher education. You are different from the students of those second-rate schools outside; do not do foolish things.”
The classroom was quiet; no one answered her words.
Liao Wenqian scanned the room. “Where is Zhao Youqi?”
Someone replied, “He went to the infirmary.”
“The infirmary?” Liao Wenqian asked, “What happened to him?”
The people in the class looked toward the direction of Jiang Sheng and Du Yu. Liao Wenqian guessed that this matter was related to them, so she didn’t ask further in class.
“OK, now we officially begin class.”
Liao Wenqian had already started lecturing, but Du Yu’s mind was very obviously not on listening to the lesson.
Jiang Sheng didn’t mind him either. After all, Du Yanyu had stated clearly beforehand that he didn’t send him to school for the sake of making him study, but hoped he would make more friends and use that to open up his heart.
Jiang Sheng glanced at Liang Sinian, thinking in his heart that he might be the first step.
Therefore, he pointed at him and said to Du Yu, “A-Yu, that person is called Liang Sinian. Do you want to be friends with him?”
Du Yu turned his face, a trace of confusion flashing through his gaze.
Jiang Sheng organized his wording; he needed to use the simplest and most easily understandable words to explain to him.
“Friend… means someone who will talk to A-Yu and play together with A-Yu.”
Du Yu’s gaze was very flat. He seemed to have no interest whatsoever in this friend, not even asking a single question.
Jiang Sheng couldn’t fathom what he was thinking. Just as he wanted to explain further to him, he suddenly saw him looking at him in a daze, murmuring, “Friend…”
Jiang Sheng tried to persuade him, “Yes, friend. A-Yu, you can make a friend. He will be just like me, keeping you company to play and keeping you company to fly kites together.”
His gaze gradually became clear, looking at Jiang Sheng as he chanted, “Friend…”
Jiang Sheng: “Yes, does A-Yu want to make a friend?”
Du Yu did not respond to him. Still looking at Jiang Sheng, he repeated and chanted, “Friend…”
He kept staring at Jiang Sheng and repeating the chant. Jiang Sheng couldn’t understand Du Yu’s meaning. “What’s wrong, A-Yu?”
Du Yu looked at him, word by word, speaking slowly, “A-Sheng, is friend.”
