Love Notebook of a Reclusive Beautiful Boy - Chapter 15
Chapter 15
Jiang Sheng held Du Yu’s hand and let out a casual laugh, “Imitating me?”
Du Yu did not answer him.
His attention returned to the pocket watch. The melody had already finished playing through one full round. Bowing his head, he closed the pocket watch, and then opened it once again; the melody immediately began to play out.
He tilted his head to look at Jiang Sheng, his eyes curving. “Beautiful to hear…”
Jiang Sheng smiled. “Mm, I know.”
This time Jiang Sheng did not hum; it was Du Yu himself trying to keep up with the beat, humming softly.
He was not humming from his throat, but making a soft humming sound with his voice.
He couldn’t hum it well, but Jiang Sheng just let him hum as he pleased. After all, getting Du Yu to open his mouth and speak was already no simple matter.
The whole way was filled with the sound of Du Yu’s humming. His tone was fresh, and the melody he hummed was also somewhat cheerful, which actually softened the surrounding scenery and the tall silhouettes of the two men.
The moment they entered the villa, they heard the sound of Yao Xiaohui and Du Yanyu arguing on the second floor. Du Yanyu’s voice couldn’t really be heard; it was mainly Yao Xiaohui, whose voice was so loud that Jiang Sheng heard it the moment he stepped into the doorway.
“A grand banquet!” she shouted in a bizarre, sarcastic tone, “Mr. Du! Boss Du! Have you discussed such a major matter with me?! You went to look for that smelly bitch, so who exactly is the real Mrs. Du?!”
Immediately following that was the clatter-smash sound of things being thrown.
The Filipino maids downstairs raised their eyes one after another to check the situation. Fu Shan was also downstairs, pointing at a Filipino maid to the side, “Go quickly, find a couple of people to go and clean up.”
The noise from the argument was so loud that Du Yu heard it too.
He raised his head, a look of confusion on his face.
Jiang Sheng knew very well that this was a matter between Du Yanyu and Yao Xiaohui. He was not gossipy and it wasn’t his place to pry into these things, so he squeezed Du Yu’s hand to remind him, “Let’s go, A-Yu, we’re going back.”
“Mr. Jiang and A-Yu are back.”
Fu Shan smiled and walked over.
Jiang Sheng nodded, and just as he was about to speak, another round of clatter-smash sounds came from upstairs.
Fu Shan glanced upstairs, shook his head, and let out a sigh.
“What’s wrong?”
Jiang Sheng asked anyway.
“Sigh…” Fu Shan sighed again and said, “It’s about A-Yu’s birthday banquet. Mr. Du didn’t say a word to the Mistress, and instead went to ask Boss Zhong of the Little Veranda to prepare it for A-Yu. After the Mistress found out, she’s throwing a tantrum at the Master!”
Next month was Du Yu’s eighteenth birthday. Ever since Du Yu’s accident, almost nobody in the outside world had seen Du Yanyu’s son, so taking advantage of Du Yu’s birthday this time, Du Yanyu wanted to introduce Du Yu properly to the outside world.
But because Yao Xiaohui had always disliked Du Yu, Du Yanyu had invited Zhong Huiyin from the Little Veranda to help organize it.
This Zhong Huiyin was Du Yanyu’s intimate female friend, and whenever Du Yanyu had the slightest issue, he liked to talk to her about it. Yao Xiaohui had made a scene with him over this matter an unknown number of times.
This time, for Du Yu’s birthday banquet, Du Yanyu asking her to help prepare was a literal slap to Yao Xiaohui’s face.
Jiang Sheng was not clear about the relationships involved and wasn’t curious either, but hearing about Du Yu’s birthday, he asked an extra question, “A-Yu’s birthday is next month?”
Mentioning this, Fu Shan was also all smiles. “Yes, Mr. Du said it must be a grand banquet! Who knows how lively it will be then. Mr. Jiang will certainly have his hands full!”
Jiang Sheng also gave a polite smile, “I won’t be busy, I’m just protecting A-Yu. On the other hand, it’s Master Fu who will be busy hosting the guests.”
Fu Shan smiled, “It’s rare to be busy for once. Our A-Yu hasn’t had a birthday party for so many years; this time it must be a bustling and lively affair.”
After saying that, he looked at Du Yu again and asked him in a warm and friendly manner, “A-Yu, you’re about to have your birthday, are you happy?”
Regrettably, Du Yu didn’t understand. He tilted his head slightly to look at Jiang Sheng, his eyes blank and innocent, looking completely bewildered.
Jiang Sheng lowered his head, released his hand to hold Du Yu’s shoulders, and explained, “Uncle Fu is asking A-Yu if you like having a birthday? At that time…”
He originally wanted to say that there would be many people coming to keep him company and play together.
But he suddenly remembered that Du Yu inherently disliked staying with strangers, let alone speaking to them.
So he had no choice but to change his words and say, “At that time, I will also keep A-Yu company and eat cake together.”
It was unknown whether Du Yu understood or not.
He curved the corners of his mouth, his smile shallow, his voice pure and innocent, “Like…”
Jiang Sheng had just randomly changed his words on the spur of the moment and didn’t pay much attention to it. Seeing Du Yu smile so sweetly, he thought he just liked eating cake; after all, cake is sweet, and children all like to eat it.
…
Once they went upstairs, Jiang Sheng didn’t hold his hand anymore.
Tonight’s night scenery was very good; the dense stars outside the window could be seen very clearly through the small window of the attic.
Jiang Sheng had never understood why Du Yanyu had ordered people to seal up the window.
This window was the only point through which light penetrated the entire attic, and opening it occasionally could also provide ventilation. Besides, A-Yu seemed to really like looking out the window.
The first time he met Du Yu, hadn’t he seen him staring out the window, zoning out for a very long time?
Jiang Sheng took another look at Du Yu, who was sitting across from the bed. His mind was easily attracted by other things.
Just a moment ago he was still pondering over that pocket watch, but the moment he entered the attic, he bowed his head again to look at the photo frame.
Jiang Sheng glanced at the time—it was nine-thirty.
He opened the door and casually called over a Filipino maid to ask, “Where is Nanny Fang?”
The maid replied, “I saw the Mistress looking for her for something just now, she went to the study.”
Usually at this time, Du Yu should have already rested, but because Jiang Sheng came back a bit late today, it was delayed.
He originally wanted to call Nanny Fang to attend to Du Yu’s washing up and sleeping, but looking at the situation now, it was unknown when she would be able to come over.
He had no choice but to say to the maid, “Bring up some washing water.”
The maid went down and very quickly brought up the washing water.
Jiang Sheng wrung out the towel and sat down next to Du Yu.
Seeing Du Yu looking as if he was thinking about something unknown again, he applied the towel, which still carried steam, onto his cheeks.
The warm towel pressed against his face, and Du Yu’s attention was quickly attracted. He turned his face to look at Jiang Sheng. Seeing that he had a reaction, Jiang Sheng said, “A-Yu, close your eyes.”
This was how he had seen Nanny Fang do it the first time she washed Du Yu’s face—she had spoken exactly like this. Helplessly, Nanny Fang wasn’t around today, so he had to personally wipe Du Yu’s face himself.
Du Yu obediently closed his eyes out of habit.
Jiang Sheng wiped his face for him. His skin was very white, and after being wiped with the hot towel, it appeared exceptionally tender.
After Jiang Sheng finished wiping it for him, he placed it into the basin as he went along, waving his hand, and the maid carried the basin downstairs.
Jiang Sheng turned his head to look at Du Yu and discovered that he was actually still closing his eyes. His long eyelashes almost touched his lower eyelids, his chin was slightly tilted up, and the bangs on his forehead were stained with water, looking full of youthful air.
Seeing this obedient look of his, Jiang Sheng turned his head to the side and let out a laugh.
If he didn’t give the command, the boy wouldn’t know to open his eyes on his own?
Jiang Sheng turned his head back to look at Du Yu; he still hadn’t opened his eyes.
He put his hand in a fist shape against his chin and coughed twice. He was very close to Du Yu, so Du Yu should have been able to hear these two coughs very clearly, but he still didn’t open his eyes.
Amused, Jiang Sheng said, “Alright, A-Yu, you can open your eyes.”
Only then did Du Yu slowly open his eyes.
Looking at his innocent and pure eyes, Jiang Sheng’s heart felt somewhat touched for a moment. He told him seriously, “A-Yu, you can open your eyes by yourself. There are some things you have to learn by yourself, do you understand?”
Du Yu also looked at him, a few hints of confusion gradually flashing through his eyes. He didn’t answer his words.
Suddenly catching sight of the pocket watch on the table, he bowed his head, picked it over, and carefully pressed open the cover; the sound of music instantly rang out.
He held it to his ear to listen for less than a few seconds, then obediently held it close to Jiang Sheng’s ear, an innocent smile on his face, “A-Sheng, listen…”
The music went ding-dong ding-dong. Looking at Du Yu holding out his hand and at his smiling face, Jiang Sheng let out a soft sigh, “Forget it.”
