- Chapter 92 - The Big Evil Dragon's Prepared Surprise
Long Ling was reluctant to accept the gem mine that Violet offered, but Violet insisted on giving it. Her Little Strawberry Dragon could only wear things given by her.
From among the extravagant pieces of jewelry, Violet selected a silver, vine-wrapped gemstone pendant and personally fastened it around Long Ling’s neck.
The ‘Heart of Eternity’ that her grandmother had given Long Ling could only be tucked away into her pocket.
After putting the pendant on Long Ling, Violet’s eyes were filled with appreciation: “I like this very much.”
Long Ling was a little helpless: “You like everything you give me.”
Violet curled her lips, stating matter-of-factly, “Otherwise, how would others know that you are my Alpha?”
Long Ling shook her head, saying softly, “I don’t think anyone would care about that.”
Who would deliberately pay attention to a pendant? No matter how luxurious, it was just an accessory.
Violet wrapped her arms around Long Ling: “I care very much. Before, I really wanted to tie you up so you would never leave me. Now, I can only hang a pendant on you like this.”
Long Ling tilted her head slightly and asked, “That sounds like you are very dissatisfied with the current situation?”
Violet immediately replied, “Satisfied. Things are great now.”
Long Ling curved her lips.
The Big Evil Dragon was actually quite cute like this.
She used to not understand why the Big Evil Dragon always enjoyed teasing her, but now she seemed to gradually understand the Big Evil Dragon’s wicked sense of humor.
However, she wasn’t as naughty as the Big Evil Dragon.
Long Ling cleared her throat: “I will wear the pendant you gave me throughout my stay at the manor.”
Violet couldn’t help but say, “You have to wear it forever.”
Long Ling gave a gentle ‘Mhm’: “Alright.”
Occasionally indulging the Big Evil Dragon’s possessiveness wasn’t a big deal.
Seeing her behave so obediently, Violet said, “I’ve also prepared a surprise for you. Do you want to see it?”
Long Ling recalled the Dragon Palace surprise Violet had arranged for her.
She returned to the sofa, picked up the red wine she had poured earlier, and took a sip to calm herself: “What kind of surprise?”
Violet noticed Long Ling’s expression, which didn’t look like she was anticipating a surprise. Long Ling hadn’t even offered a word of praise for the carefully decorated manor.
Violet guessed Long Ling might not like it and needed a different surprise, so she said, “I’m not telling you.”
Long Ling’s interest was piqued, and now Violet suddenly stopped talking.
She moved closer to Violet, and asked softly, “Why are you suddenly not telling me? Is the Duchess not ready yet?”
Violet tossed her long, dark, curly hair. Her eyelashes shimmered in the warm, orange light, and her full red lips were soft: “It’s been ready for a long time. If a certain Little Strawberry Dragon begs me, I’ll tell her.”
Long Ling inhaled the faint, unique fragrance of Violet. Her heart skipped a beat, and she coaxed her, “I beg you, please tell me.”
Violet looked at her bright eyes and gestured with her eyes toward the red wine glass Long Ling was holding.
Long Ling’s fingers were beautiful, long and slender with distinct joints. She held the red wine glass steadily in her hand, the deep red liquid illuminated to an amber glow.
Violet leaned in to take a sip of the red wine that Long Ling offered her: “You can also call me ‘darling’.”
Long Ling parted her lips, her cheeks involuntarily flushing.
Such a sudden request was a bit difficult to utter.
She looked at Violet’s red lips and quickly pecked her: “Can I kiss you instead?”
Violet felt like she had been pecked by a clumsy little woodpecker, leaving behind a faint, sweet strawberry flavor.
The corners of her lips curled up imperceptibly: “No.”
Long Ling suddenly felt like comforting herself that not knowing was fine, but Violet’s expression made it clear she really wanted her request to be fulfilled.
Long Ling extended her slender, fair fingertips to tuck Violet’s stray hair behind her ear, gently stroking Violet’s earlobe, and whispered very softly, “Darling.”
Her shallow breaths spun around Violet’s ear, carrying a hint of rich wine.
Violet’s ear instantly turned crimson, and her voice was low and husky: “Wait for me here.”
Long Ling watched Violet stand up and walk towards the bedroom, her steps graceful and languid.
She rested her elbow on the sofa and leaned on it, waiting for Violet to return.
In just a few seconds, the sound of fireworks suddenly bursting outside the French windows rang out, glittering brilliantly against the dark night sky.
Long Ling immediately understood the surprise Violet had mentioned, and a smile couldn’t help but bloom on her face.
She had actually seen fireworks once in the Elf Territory, but these were specially prepared for her by Violet, making them different from all the others.
She had entered the deep palace when she was very young, and among the lights of ten thousand homes, not a single one lit up for her, and no one would set off fireworks for her.
On her birthday, she had no longevity noodles. She would bury a shriveled sweet potato in the stove of the imperial kitchen. After patting off the ash, the piping hot sweet potato filled her stomach, and that was how she comforted herself.
Now, someone was specially setting off fireworks for her, and it was to welcome her home.
Long Ling felt a bittersweet sensation in her heart. She now had a small home with Violet.
When Violet walked toward her, Long Ling couldn’t help but rush forward, throwing herself into Violet’s arms, her voice trembling slightly: “The fireworks are beautiful!”
Violet wrapped her arms around Long Ling’s waist: “Do you like them?”
Long Ling nodded vigorously: “I love them!”
Violet proudly raised her eyebrows. She had prepared plenty of fireworks—enough for Long Ling to watch all night.
Long Ling nestled in Violet’s arms, enjoying a moment of happiness. Then, Violet pulled her hand, and they changed clothes and went out to watch the fireworks together.
As they opened the main door, a gust of cold wind blew through, and large snowflakes drifted in through the crack, entering the house.
Snow settled on both Long Ling’s and Violet’s hair. Butler Marcia had already arranged for the snow at the doorway to be cleared, leaving only a thin layer of frost on the ground. It was hard to see clearly in the dark, but under the light, the cleared snow piles had already accumulated, and the branches hanging from the pine trees were weighed down by the frost.
The air was filled with the smell of burning gunpowder from the fireworks, along with many paper tubes. Multi-colored fireworks bloomed in the night sky, their scattered points of light falling back down, beautiful and intricate.
Long Ling and Violet watched the fireworks in the snow for a long time.
It was late into the night before the two of them returned to the room and fell asleep in each other’s embrace.
The next morning, Violet woke up even earlier than she did. When Long Ling woke up, she found the quilt empty, only a faint scent of rose lingering.
She rubbed her face sleepily in the covers, when she suddenly heard a small dog barking.
Long Ling thought she had misheard, but then a wet muzzle suddenly nudged her hand hanging by the bedside.
She opened her eyes and suddenly saw the dog’s shiny black eyes. The fluffy white puppy wagged its tail so hard it looked like a propeller.
“Woof woof!” The dog’s long muzzle rubbed against her hand, circling her excitedly.
Long Ling looked at Violet standing behind the dog, her eyes full of surprise: “Where did you get this dog?”
Violet smiled at her: “I had someone buy a sled dog. We’ll go out together later.”
Hearing that there were plans for the day, Long Ling quickly climbed out of bed and hugged the adorable dog into her arms, ignoring her bare feet.
So Violet had gone out early in the morning to get a dog for her.
Long Ling rubbed the puppy’s head and looked up at Violet: “What are we going out to do?”
Violet looked at Long Ling’s bright, sparkling eyes, and also rubbed Long Ling’s head: “I’m taking you sledding to see the snow scenery outside.”
Now that Violet’s legs were fine, she took advantage of being taller to do whatever she wanted to Long Ling.
Long Ling avoided her hand, refusing to let Violet rub her any further, and said happily, “Okay.”
Violet’s lips were full of smiles. Long Ling looked a bit like a little puppy-dragon now. She subtly glanced at the silver-white dragon tail behind Long Ling, which wagged slightly twice, making her look cuter the more she looked.
Long Ling didn’t know that holding a little dog had transformed her image in Violet’s eyes.
She quickly got out of bed and went to the dressing room, changing into warm clothing. When they went out after breakfast, the sled dogs at the door were already ready.
The surroundings were a vast expanse of white, covered in silver frost. The heavy snow had stopped.
Long Ling saw many dogs. The last time she went hunting with Violet, they brought magnificent and domineering hounds, but sled dogs had their own charm.
The dog she had hugged earlier was the lead dog of this sled team, an Alaskan Malamute.
After the servant harnessed the lead Alaskan, Long Ling sat on the sled. The dogs were eager to start.
She thought Violet would ride the sled with her, but Violet mounted a strong black horse, riding beside her. Her dark gold eyes, set against the frost and snow, were exceptionally clear, and her features were delicate and beautiful.
So the sled was prepared just for her, and the Big Evil Dragon still had to maintain her image.
Long Ling: “………”
Long Ling had ridden a horse before, but she had never been on a sled. She happily sat alone in the sled car.
The servants had already cleared the path, and the sled dogs followed the route out of the manor. Long Ling was surprised to find that these sled dogs pulled the sled incredibly fast.
In just ten minutes or so, they had merrily pulled Long Ling’s sled out of the manor, leaving the entire Illidari Manor far behind, quickly becoming a tiny black dot.
The surroundings were a boundless stretch of white, and the sled was practically flying across the wilderness.
Cool, fine snow particles were kicked up in a long trail behind the sled, and countless paw prints were left in the snow.
Occasionally, a dead branch snapped, making a crack sound, and the sled car only made a slight, gentle vibration.
As the sled dogs pulled her through the fallen branches, cold snow was blown down by the distant wind, landing on Long Ling’s head and then sliding down her neck, causing a chilling sensation.
Since the accumulated snow had hit her, she couldn’t let Violet escape!
She turned her head to look, but Violet was wearing a wide-brimmed black felt hat and hadn’t been touched by the frost or snow. Riding her horse, she looked noble and elegant from every angle.
Violet noticed Long Ling’s gaze lingering on her and slightly raised her chin: “Why are you looking at me?”
Long Ling huffed and turned her head away. She regretted not rushing out the door completely bundled up in a winter hat. Now, she could only bury her head in her scarf.
It was impressive, but it was also cold. By the time Long Ling reached her destination on the sled, her hands, tucked into her sleeves, were icy cold.
Violet took off her glove and cupped Long Ling’s flushed cheeks: “I’ll warm you up.”
As soon as her icy fingertips touched her, Long Ling couldn’t help but shiver.
Violet’s body temperature was always lower than hers. Long Ling hadn’t expected that even with a glove on, Violet’s hand would be colder than hers.
She was silent for two seconds. Once Violet’s hand was somewhat warm, she pulled it away from her face: “You’re colder than I am.”
Violet pressed her hand against Long Ling’s wrist, and said softly, “Yes, the weather is too cold.”
Long Ling turned her head to look around. Nearby was a turquoise lake already covered by thick, solid ice. In the distance on the snowy mountains, there were some dry branches on the ground; perhaps they could be used to build a fire.
She and Violet had been to this place before. The last time, she had borrowed a casting net from Violet and caught many salmon, which they used to enter the Salmon Feast competition.
Long Ling turned to Violet and said, “Then wait for me here. I’ll go collect some firewood.”
Violet held her wrist, preventing her from leaving: “There is a small wooden cabin up on that mountain nearby. Firewood has been prepared there.”
A trace of doubt flashed in Long Ling’s eyes: “A wooden cabin?”
Violet led her forward: “Didn’t you enjoy life in the Elf Territory before? We have forests here too, so I arranged for someone to build a small log cabin in the forest. You can stay there for a few days.”
Long Ling rubbed her forehead. Why was Violet building houses everywhere now?
She followed Violet to the small cabin. Outside the door, she saw neatly stacked, pre-split logs.
This place was much smaller than her treehouse in the Elf Territory, more like a hunter’s cabin, but it was still quite charming. It had a small bed, a table, and a stove. It would be a nice place for a short retreat.
She opened the cabin door, walked in, and took some firewood, placing it in the stove inside.
Violet used magic to ignite the wood. Flames rose, and the room quickly warmed up.
Long Ling had accumulated a lot of falling snow on her hair during the journey, and her hair was frozen stiff like icicles. After being dried by the warm fire, her long hair, which draped over her shoulders, became damp, and her eyelashes were slightly wet.
She only had a scarf and no way to dry her hair, so she could only bake it by the fire for a while longer.
Violet’s long fingers suddenly ran through her hair, using magic to help dry it.
Long Ling was stunned for a moment: “I can do it myself.”
Violet said softly, “I told you I would take care of you from now on.”
The light in Long Ling’s eyes flickered, and she gently hummed in agreement, putting her hands above the fire to warm them.
Violet’s red lips curved into a slight smile: “Do you want to rest here for a bit longer, or come with me to go skating, hunting, or ice fishing?”
Long Ling remembered the last time she practiced shooting during their hunt, her marksmanship wasn’t good, and she only managed to shoot a few wild ducks. That was in the spring when wild ducks were plentiful. Hunting wild ducks at this time of year would be difficult.
Ice fishing, on the other hand, was simply too cold. They couldn’t exactly move the stove out onto the ice.
Long Ling couldn’t help but ask, “Are we going to skate on that lake just now?”
Violet nodded slightly.
Long Ling hesitated: “But I’ve never skated before.”
Violet said warmly, “You can learn that quickly. I had someone bring the ice skates.”
Long Ling agreed: “Then let’s go ice skating.”
Long Ling’s body felt much warmer. After resting and adjusting for a while, Violet brought the ice skates, and the two of them went to the frozen lake.
The lake had a thick layer of ice, several meters deep. The temperature on the Ode Continent had dropped faster than on the Livo Continent, and this lake had begun to freeze over a month ago.
The ice surface was slippery, and Long Ling, wearing ice skates, had to be supported by Violet.
In fact, it didn’t matter if a dragon fell. Even if she fell on the ice, she wouldn’t feel pain, but Violet steadily supported her the entire time.
Violet was very patient and kept encouraging her: “Keep your knees slightly bent, arms relaxed, don’t be afraid.”
It took a long time just to maintain balance while standing. It was only after gradually getting used to it that she could attempt to glide on the ice.
Unlike the last time she practiced shooting during their hunt, Long Ling wasn’t very focused. Violet noticed that Long Ling was quite interested in ice skating, persisting for a long time without complaining of tiredness or asking to stop.
It seemed the Little Strawberry Dragon preferred activities related to sports, which explained why her muscle definition always remained perfect.
Violet was very skilled at ice skating. She slowly glided across the ice with Long Ling, watching Long Ling transform from a shaky little chick to one who was gradually gaining confidence, her eyes becoming bright and shining.
Violet slowly let go, allowing Long Ling to glide a circle around her.
She remained vigilant, ready to steadily catch Long Ling no matter which direction the little dragon fell.
However, Long Ling had a great talent for sports. After mastering lateral gliding, her speed increased, and she moved like an agile swallow, giving Violet no cause for concern.
The two of them played on the ice for a long time. Long Ling hadn’t been this happy in ages.
When playing beach volleyball with Annie, she would consider Annie’s feelings and act as a dependable partner.
But in front of Violet, she could completely relax.
As evening set and the sky began to grow dark, snow started to fall again, and wisps of cooking smoke rose from Long Ling and Violet’s small cabin.
Long Ling and Violet ate the fragrant pan-fried rabbit and drank the hot tea Violet had personally brewed, which left a pleasant, sweet aftertaste.
Violet had been very kind to her these past few days. She knew she needed to put the proposal on the agenda soon.
