- Chapter 86 - Apply the Ointment Inside First
The deep autumn sunlight filled the entire room. Violet’s red lips curved slightly, her dark hair tucked behind her ear, and she lifted her leg to lightly hook Long Ling’s calf.
“Come here, take off your cloak.”
Long Ling stumbled two steps, pulled by Violet’s hook. She had walked around outside, and dust had indeed gathered on the elf cloak, so she took it off.
She placed the cloak on the nearby hanger. When she turned back, Violet’s alluring body was hidden by the soft quilt, exposing her rounded shoulder, her beautiful eyes staring intently at Long Ling.
Long Ling’s cheeks inexplicably flushed, and she turned to draw the curtains.
Violet lifted a corner of the quilt. Long Ling saw a glimpse of her body, and her heart pounded. She couldn’t help but retreat two steps: “Aren’t we just applying the medicine?”
Violet’s eyes were full of smiles: “It’s cold in the room. Get under the covers and apply it for me.”
The temperature was a bit low now, and it might snow in a few days.
Long Ling only occasionally stayed in this room; there was no fireplace installed, and the wooden floor wasn’t covered with soft carpets. It couldn’t compare to the luxurious manor where Violet often lived before.
Long Ling hesitated for a second: “Why don’t I take you to a different place to stay? Only the manor outside the city belonging to my mother has a fireplace; it will be warmer there.”
Violet beckoned to her: “We can stay here for now. It’ll be easier for me to find you. Come in quickly.”
Long Ling got into the warm quilt. Just as she was about to grab the magic potion, Violet’s enchanting body suddenly wrapped around hers, gently kissing the corner of her lips.
While gently kissing her, she asked, “Your mouth is so cold. Is it very cold outside?”
Violet’s body gave off a faint, delicate fragrance. Her dark, soft hair lightly brushed Long Ling’s neck, tickling her.
Long Ling’s cheeks couldn’t help but flush. Just as she was about to talk about the scenery outside, Violet’s rosy tongue seized the opportunity to slip inside.
She realized she had been tricked, but it was too late. Violet lightly swept her palate, a tingling sensation like an electric current running through her. Her soft tongue was hooked and stirred.
It was stuffy under the covers, the temperature gradually rising. Long Ling’s heart rate couldn’t help but accelerate with a thump-thump.
She was kissed until she was dizzy, yet she still remembered the magic potion: “No, I haven’t applied the medicine yet.”
Violet kneaded her dragon tail, her red lips close to her ear: “Then apply the ointment inside first.”
Long Ling’s throat moved slightly. Violet straddled her. The light-blue magic potion bottle was held in Violet’s hand, and the crystal liquid poured into Long Ling’s palm.
Violet applied the potion to her slender fingertips. It was cold and carried a cool medicinal scent. Violet guided her fingers to the required position. With the movement of her lithe waist, the magic potion was quickly and evenly applied.
Long Ling held Violet’s waist, gently rubbing in a circular motion to smooth out the excess medicine.
Violet’s face became flushed. She wrapped her arms around Long Ling’s neck, her breathing growing more rapid: “Do you like the way I am now?”
Long Ling looked at Violet’s charming and seductive eyes, her cheeks very hot. She kissed the side of her neck where the scent gland was.
Cool lips pressed against the sensitive scent gland. Their pheromones intensely intertwined. Violet was left only with soft gasps, her eyes blurred, unable to tease Long Ling anymore.
After a period of intimacy, Violet leaned contentedly in her arms. Long Ling then used the remaining healing potion to wipe the red marks on her body, which significantly lightened the lingering traces on her skin.
Violet felt very comfortable with Long Ling massaging her soft waist. She couldn’t help but kiss Long Ling’s jaw and asked softly, “Long Ling, do you want a dragon egg of our own?”
The probability of conceiving a dragon egg is very high during an Omega’s heat cycle. They had entwined tails many times these past two days. If she could conceive, she could choose to keep the dragon egg.
If it had been during the period of their contractual marriage, Long Ling would have been delighted to hear Violet offer to conceive a dragon egg for her.
Now, they haven’t reconciled yet. Although she also wants to have her own family, it is not the best time.
Long Ling didn’t agree immediately: “Let’s talk about it later.”
Long Ling tucked the quilt around Violet, then went to the kitchen to get busy.
Violet looked at Long Ling’s receding back, supporting the side of her face with her palm, a hint of sadness flashing in her eyes.
Is she still angry with her, unwilling to marry, and now doesn’t want the dragon egg either?
Long Ling’s magic skills were now much better than before. After magically plucking the feathers from the two plump wild geese, she found that both were old, mature geese. The hard quills were all white, and the wingtips were split. They would require a long time of stewing.
The kitchenware in her tavern was carefully crafted by artisans. She put both geese into the pot. After skimming the blood foam, she used chopsticks to shape the geese in their abdominal cavities. She marinated one first, to be used for old goose soup, and the other for making braised goose.
Long Ling had originally planned to start a new batch of her self-developed old braising liquid when she was at the Ilidare Manor.
After the tavern’s business was snatched away last time, she realized she needed to earn more money. She couldn’t just rely on selling wine. She needed to expand her business so that even if someone stole the tavern’s wine-drinking customers, she could still have diners.
Moreover, if the braising liquid was done well, it would be much simpler. She could just hire some workers, and after cleaning the braised goods every day, they could be put into the pot for stewing. Then, she could set up a small, dedicated stall next to the tavern’s wine counter, specializing in selling braised goose. The tavern’s business should become even more prosperous.
Long Ling’s old braising liquid was her unique secret recipe, using many different Chinese medicinal herbs. Frequent consumption was beneficial to health. She had originally intended to open a large restaurant herself after leaving the palace, but now running a tavern also allowed her to put the skills she had learned to good use.
After the braising ingredients in the pot were stir-fried in hot oil to release their aroma, rice wine was added before the geese to be braised were put in. The braising liquid submerged the geese. After covering the pot, she had to flip them at intervals.
Both pots were on the same stove, allowing her to monitor the heat simultaneously. Long Ling used this free time to make candied hawthorn on a stick for Violet.
She used water magic to wash the hawthorn berries clean and threaded them onto split small wooden sticks. After making a full box, Long Ling started to boil the sugar.
She used a shallower flat-bottomed pan, with a two-to-one ratio of sugar to water. When the sugar reached a very light caramel color, and a little smoke started to rise from the edge of the pot, the sugar’s color was the most beautiful, like amber.
The kitchen was not only filled with a sweet fragrance, but the scent also wafted throughout the entire tavern, attracting the evil dragon lady.
Violet came out of the bedroom and walked to her side: “What are you making? It smells so good.”
Long Ling looked at her helplessly. She scooped a spoonful of the bright, clear syrup into an iron basin and quickly drew a crystal-clear flying dragon.
Violet looked at Long Ling’s smooth movements, her eyes full of admiration. Before she could react, Long Ling presented the flying dragon to her.
Long Ling said gently: “Eat it.”
Violet took a bite. The sweet flavor melted in her mouth, and she couldn’t help but chide: “Why isn’t it strawberry flavored?”
Long Ling could now understand that Violet’s “strawberry dragon” was referring to her. Her cheeks felt hot: “Right now, it’s only this flavor.”
Violet offered it to Long Ling: “You eat some too.”
Long Ling looked down and saw that the part she bit was the small dragon tail. Her face grew even redder, and she whispered: “You’re incorrigible.”
Violet curled her lips, smiling as she looked at Long Ling: “The little dragon tail is delicious.”
Long Ling’s heart pounded, and her dragon horns felt scalding. She lowered her head and ate the candy Violet offered: “I also made goose soup and braised goose for you in the pot. The candied hawthorn I’m making now is for you to eat after the meal.”
Violet saw her eating the candy, her cheeks pink, all the way down to her neck. She gently kissed the back of Long Ling’s neck: “I happen to be a little hungry.”
Long Ling’s shoulders hunched up from the kiss, twitching from the tickle. She glared at Violet.
Violet smiled, rolled up her sleeves, and washed her hands nearby: “Do you want me to help you?”
Violet actually wanted to help her cook. The sun must be rising in the west.
Long Ling was stunned for a moment and handed her a chair: “You can just sit here.”
Violet raised her eyebrows slightly: “Why?”
Long Ling reheated the small pot, putting the hawthorn berries in to roll them in the sugar glaze, and said: “The Duchess’s hands are precious. How can they do such small tasks?”
Was Long Ling complaining that she never helped out before?
Violet proactively took the hawthorn berries from the iron basin and handed them to Long Ling: “I am willing to do anything for you now.”
Long Ling couldn’t help but let out a soft “humph.”
Violet handed over a skewer of hawthorn berries, and Long Ling coated it with sugar glaze. Cooperating with each other, they quickly arranged them evenly on a plate.
Just as the candied hawthorn was ready, there was a sudden knock on the tavern door.
Long Ling went to open the door, and Violet followed her.
Long Ling saw Mordai standing at the door, travel-worn, her eyes full of surprise: “Mom, why are you here?”
Violet’s brow furrowed. She subconsciously stood by Long Ling’s side.
Violet knew well that Mordai had always been dissatisfied with her and didn’t want Long Ling to be with her.
Mordai sighed in relief when she saw Long Ling at the tavern: “It’s good that you’re safe. I looked in several places and thought Violet had forcefully taken you away.”
Long Ling had left Anne’s engagement banquet so hastily that Mordai thought Long Ling had some leverage over Violet.
With many people around, it was inconvenient for her to ask. After Anne’s situation was properly handled, she immediately went looking for Long Ling.
Long Ling hadn’t expected her mother to be so worried about her, and she felt a bit guilty: “I’m sorry, Mom. Violet went into her heat cycle, and I had to leave immediately.”
Mordai, being an ancient dragon, could understand Long Ling. Perhaps because Long Ling had been with Violet from the very beginning, an indescribable affection had developed, causing Long Ling to always prioritize Violet.
Even without the heat cycle, Long Ling would have chosen to leave with Violet.
She rubbed Long Ling’s head: “Mom respects your choice. I’m relieved as long as you are safe and sound now.”
She glanced at Violet. These two dragons were clinging to each other and didn’t look like they would separate anytime soon.
Violet was quite devoted to Long Ling. The details of Long Ling and Anne’s engagement ceremony were kept so secret, yet she still managed to hear the news and rush over. In the end, Anne benefited the most, simply gaining a resource-rich territory, making other dragons green with envy.
Mordai still pulled Long Ling’s hand, avoiding Violet, and whispered to Long Ling: “You can’t go back to the manor with her, and you can’t forgive her so quickly. If she takes you away again and locks you up as a little pet in the manor, Mom won’t be able to find you, okay?”
Long Ling nodded vigorously, knowing her mother was looking out for her: “I know, I won’t go with her so easily. Mom, I made some food in the pot. Do you want to eat something before you go?”
Since she was already here, a meal would be fine.
Mordai also wanted to observe the two dragons’ interactions to see if Violet was only pretending to be nice to Long Ling.
Violet and Long Ling had been full of affection for each other, but facing the suddenly appearing Mordai, Violet was suddenly worried that Mordai would turn the little dragon against her.
Mordai wasn’t as easy to deal with as Anne and Lady Rosalind. With Rosalind, Violet only needed a little trick to keep her busy.
Mordai only cared about Long Ling. Violet couldn’t possibly cause trouble for Long Ling.
Violet watched Long Ling happily prepare food for Mordai, silently tightening her pale fingers.
Because her mother came, Long Ling bought some fresh mushrooms and winter bamboo shoots for a hot pot. She also stir-fried some baby cabbage sprouts and put them on a platter. She also bought some fresh shrimp and fish, minced them, and shaped them into shrimp balls and fish balls, arranging them on plates next to the old goose soup.
The braised goose was also brought up. Long Ling cut it into pieces with a knife and took out some craft beer, pouring a glass for both Mordai and Violet.
She sat in the middle seat. If Shirley and Grandma were also here, their family would be reunited.
“Eat quickly, I made all of this myself.”
Long Ling’s face was beaming with smiles. Unbeknownst to her, Mordai and Violet sat across from each other. Both were strong-willed women, looking at each other, their presence not very harmonious.
Mordai picked up a tender baby cabbage and slowly chewed it.
She had lived among the elves for many years, and her diet was very light. Long Ling had stir-fried the plate of baby cabbage to perfection in color, aroma, and taste, without any greasy taste, and preserving the sweetness of the vegetable, which brought her a sense of spiritual comfort after traveling for so many years.
No one was more thoughtful than her precious daughter, who remembered that her mother liked vegetarian food and specially stir-fried baby cabbage for her.
A warm current ran through Mordai’s heart, and she praised it endlessly: “It’s so delicious. How did you make it?”
Long Ling told her the cooking method, then put a fish ball into the goose soup to boil and offered it to her: “Try this fish ball too.”
Mordai was so amazed by her daughter’s skill that she was speechless. The fish ball was so fresh and delicious, soft and springy, soaked in the flavor of the old goose soup—it felt incredibly blissful to eat.
Mordai completely forgot about scrutinizing Violet: “It’s really delicious, my daughter is amazing!”
Violet picked up a piece of oily, fragrant braised goose meat. She had never eaten this unique flavor before. The goose meat was tender, and the goose skin was soft and crispy. With one bite, she could taste the rich, moist meat juice, and there was a faint medicinal fragrance on her lips and teeth.
She saw that the little dragon’s attention was completely on Mordai, and she couldn’t help but feel a little low-spirited.
Long Ling finally managed to coax her mother and quickly scooped a shrimp ball for Violet: “This one is for you.”
Violet’s lips curved up. She scooped up a fish ball and put it into Long Ling’s mouth: “You eat some too. You’ve been busy for a long time.”
