- Chapter 8 - The Little Dragon Cub Actually Doesn't Miss Her
Long Ling decided to leave immediately and head to the small tavern gifted to her.
She had only recently reached adulthood, and her wings had been used only a few times. She also needed to ask Butler Marcia for the Evil Dragon Miss’s contact information and borrow a carriage.
When Long Ling went to find her, Butler Marcia was watering flowers in the garden.
The green lawn was neatly trimmed, and the rose flowerbeds were well-maintained.
The mild and gentle scent of roses made one’s mood involuntarily better.
“Butler Marcia, do you have Duke Willowcroft’s contact information?”
“There is a magical communication crystal in the living room. If you place your hand on it, you can communicate with Her Highness.”
“Thank you.”
Long Ling was about to leave when Butler Marcia suddenly stopped her.
“Miss Long Ling, please wait a moment and sit down for a cup of coffee together.”
A hint of surprise flashed in Long Ling’s eyes, and she sat down on the long bench opposite Butler Marcia.
Butler Marcia scooped a spoonful of coffee beans and carefully ground them in the grinder. After grinding, she placed the coffee grounds into an already preheated French press.
As hot water was slowly poured in, the rich aroma of coffee diffused, and a white mist lingered between her and Butler Marcia.
She had tasted this drink at her grandmother’s house. It was slightly bitter but had a strong mellow flavor and a hint of fruity woodiness.
Long Ling took the coffee cup brewed by Butler Marcia and took a small sip. The slightly bitter taste made her brows furrow slightly.
Butler Marcia looked at Long Ling’s beautiful face and asked very kindly, “How was your time with Her Highness last night?”
Long Ling held the coffee cup, her fingers gently rubbing the rim, “The Duke treated me very well, thank you for your concern.”
Butler Marcia had a head full of white hair, but her elegant demeanor remained. She noticed Long Ling’s awkwardness, “Miss Long Ling, you don’t have to be so nervous. Her Highness seems very satisfied with you. From now on, you can just call me Butler or Marcia. Similarly, you can also affectionately call Her Highness by her name; Her Highness would likely appreciate it.”
Long Ling paused slightly, looked up, and saw Butler Marcia wink at her.
It turned out that Butler Marcia wanted to teach her the way wives interact.
In her original world, if she married, she would call the Evil Dragon Miss ‘Niangzi’ (Wife). In this world, it seemed it should be ‘Qizi’ (Wife), or she could even call the Evil Dragon Miss ‘Laopo’ (Wife/Old Woman, a colloquial term).
Thinking of calling the Evil Dragon Miss ‘Laopo,’ Long Ling’s cheeks couldn’t help but feel hot.
Butler Marcia saw the young little dragon’s shy and timid look and smiled kindly, “You are an Alpha. Being proactive is how you win an Omega’s favor. The Fergus family is not unconditionally helping you pay off your debts; you also need to help the Duke conceive a dragon egg. You should know how to do that, right?”
Long Ling remembered what her grandmother had said when Butler Marcia mentioned conceiving a dragon egg.
Only with deep-level marking would the Evil Dragon Miss conceive a dragon egg.
Her Arnold family was just a small noble family. Logically, if the Evil Dragon Miss hadn’t encountered an accident, she wouldn’t have been qualified to become the Evil Dragon Miss’s partner. Being chosen could only be described as luck.
Now, she was only temporarily residing in Illidari Manor as a fiancée. Whether she could officially marry would depend on her performance.
The reason the Evil Dragon Miss’s family chose an Alpha dragon was not out of great kindness but for the needs of reproduction. Dragons in this world belong to a high-level race, but their numbers are very small. The Evil Dragon Miss’s family hasn’t had a little dragon cub born in many years.
She had to complete the task within a year. However, it wasn’t guaranteed that one deep-level marking would make the Evil Dragon Miss conceive a dragon egg. To finish the task as quickly as possible, she would have to engage in intercourse with the Evil Dragon Miss day and night.
Long Ling thought of the seductive and alluring rose scent at night; it didn’t seem entirely unacceptable.
“I will serve the Duke well.”
Butler Marcia saw the young little dragon’s eyes full of shyness, yet with no sign of reluctance, and her smile became even kinder.
As long as the two dragons worked hard together, they would surely give birth to a beautiful and adorable dragon egg sooner.
This way, she could also report back to the Old Madam and finally put the Old Madam’s mind at ease, as she wouldn’t have to worry about Her Highness Willowcroft for the time being.
After finishing her coffee in the garden, Long Ling lifted her skirt and walked through the corridor full of dark roses back to the living room.
The magical communication crystal was a translucent gray-blue, like a sharply cut prism, with polished edges that refracted peculiar colors. The base was a dark wooden stand, engraved with mysterious and complex patterns.
This was Long Ling’s first time touching such a mysterious object. The magical communication crystal felt cold to the touch, as if studded with stars, containing immense energy.
The moment her hand touched it, a silver-white light flashed, and the pure elements of the magical communication crystal accumulated and converged. Willowcroft’s image appeared above.
Willowcroft was wearing a neatly ironed black military overcoat. The flash of a golden epaulet instantly shone into Long Ling’s eyes.
The golden pattern on the epaulet shimmered in the sunlight. It consisted of two overlapping violet patterns, and in the center was the banner symbolizing royal rule over Port Glace.
Duke Willowcroft’s Fergus family had controlled this dynasty for tens of thousands of years. The blooming violet represented all supreme power and honor in this land.
Her gaze was sharper than when she was at home. She had a straight, beautiful nose, dazzling dark-gold eyes, and her long black curly hair cascaded over the open collar of her shirt, revealing a delicate and pale collarbone.
In that instant, Long Ling felt as if she had been hit by a bullet, and her heart began to beat faster.
Even without smelling the Evil Dragon Miss’s pheromones, her canine teeth inexplicably began to itch.
Willowcroft looked at Long Ling, a hint of tenderness in her eyes, her voice very cold and clear, “Is there something you need?”
“Hello,” Long Ling blushed, nervously clenched her fists, and quickly finished her sentence, “I would like to borrow a carriage to go to Repa Town. My grandmother gave me the deed to a tavern, and I want to go and see it.”
Willowcroft propped her chin on her hand, her dark-gold eyes staring at her.
Long Ling’s clenched fists left red marks. Her gaze involuntarily shifted away, biting her red lip, and her mind went blank for a moment.
So nervous, why is that? As long as the Evil Dragon Miss looked at her, her heart rate would uncontrollably accelerate.
No, she must just be worried about whether she can borrow the carriage.
Long Ling moved her gaze back, maintained her composure, and continued to meet Willowcroft’s gaze.
Willowcroft seemed to be waiting for her, and only after hearing no other words did she say faintly.
“Go find Butler Marcia. Any carriage in the stables is available.”
“Okay, thank you! I won’t bother your work. I’ll go now!”
Long Ling was so happy to get the Evil Dragon Miss’s permission that she almost jumped up, and quickly lowered her head to put the magic crystal back in place.
She needed to find Butler Marcia to get a carriage from the stables!
The moment Long Ling put the magic crystal down, the image immediately vanished.
In the Governor’s office at Port Glace, Willowcroft sat at the conference table, her face frozen.
She had thought the little dragon cub missed her, but it turned out she only came to borrow a carriage.
How long had she been gone? The little dragon cub was already eager to go out and frolic at the tavern.
The conference room was silent. No one dared to speak while the Governor was silent.
Several deputies responsible for the work hunched their necks like startled birds, organizing classified documents.
The tall deputy who was reporting wiped the cold sweat from his forehead and lowered his head, gripping the file in his palm tightly.
It wasn’t until Willowcroft, sitting at the head, spoke with a stern face, “Continue with the report.”
The tall deputy’s expression clearly relaxed, and he continued to report, “After opening Port Glace, the two batches of fishing boats that privately stole the poisonous fire beast eggs have been detained. Our people sent them to the Court of Judgment. According to the judgment results, they have stolen the poisonous fire beast eggs more than once. Most of the beast eggs were sold to alchemists and used to make drug potions.”
“Those drug potions have a strong hallucinogenic effect and are used to bewitch people and incite the populace to rebel. Her Majesty the Queen is furious and has dispatched the Royal Guard to heavily confiscate the poisonous fire beast eggs and arrest the alchemists involved in this operation. Should we also close the port now to facilitate the implementation of Her Majesty the Queen’s decree?”
Another standing deputy anxiously interjected, “Governor, Port Glace is the most prosperous and lively transportation hub among the nearby cities. Once the port is closed, the nearby residents will lose their source of income. The spring snow has not yet melted, the temperature is severe, and if residents lose their jobs and income, large-scale starvation will occur.”
Someone countered, “If the port is not closed, the poisonous fire beast eggs will circulate to various parts of the Aude Continent, and the alchemists will hear the news and flee everywhere. Her Majesty the Queen’s decree cannot be implemented, and we might incur her blame.”
Willowcroft’s voice echoed in the Governor’s office, and everyone couldn’t help but look up at her.
“This is my fiefdom. The port does not need to be closed for now. Conduct strict inspections of the ships. If any trace is found, secretly track it and dispatch the Port Guard to handle it.”
Willowcroft’s voice was always so firm, decisive, and unquestionable.
Everyone immediately bowed and proceeded to execute the Governor’s decision.
The deputy continued with the subsequent report, “Two cargo ships experienced a brawl at the port yesterday. The parties involved are…”
The meeting proceeded in an orderly manner. As Willowcroft signed documents on the conference table, her gaze inadvertently swept over the magic crystal.
More than half a day had passed, and Long Ling hadn’t contacted her again.
Did she only think of her when she needed her?
Willowcroft rotated the ruby on her hand. She thought she would make the little strawberry dragon sleep on the floor tonight.
While Willowcroft was busy with official duties, Long Ling had already chosen a carriage that looked relatively low-key from the stables.
The coachman, wearing a lambskin hat, drove the carriage away from Illidari Manor. Long Ling sat inside the carriage, listening to the crisp sound of horse hooves hitting the gravel.
The warm spring breeze carried micro-cold raindrops that struck the black velvet cloth covering the carriage. Long Ling’s cheeks also got a bit of a chill.
The climate here was indeed changeable. It had been sunny just moments before, and in the blink of an eye, it started to rain.
Long Ling sat in the warm and comfortable carriage compartment, leaning against the red velvet seat back, feeling a sense of ease that permeated her body and mind.
Perhaps it was precisely because she was with the Evil Dragon Miss that she gained this freedom and could enter and exit any place at will.
As the carriage arrived at Repa Town, Long Ling was getting closer and closer to her new tavern.
