- Chapter 66 - I Don't Want You to Leave Me
What if she returned to Violet’s side, and Violet continued to bully her as she did before?
Long Ling’s tone was distant: “I don’t want to be with you.”
Violet had always believed that Long Ling left her because she wasn’t perfect, because her leg was crippled.
It wasn’t easy for her to walk over to see Long Ling like this. After years of being unable to stand, the rehabilitation of her leg involved one fall after another.
More than the cutting pain, it was like her pride being shattered repeatedly. She never showed weakness in front of anyone; she wanted Long Ling to see her most perfect side.
But this time, she saw the conviction in Long Ling’s eyes. Her little dragon really didn’t like her anymore.
In the past two months, all the beliefs that had sustained her instantly collapsed.
Violet’s heart felt as if a piece had been brutally gouged out, aching and bloody.
Her pupils turned blood-red, and she couldn’t help but hug Long Ling: “Long Ling, I miss you so much. Can we talk again?”
She leaned against Long Ling’s back, her hands tightly circling Long Ling’s waist, as if trying to melt the person back into her flesh and blood.
Hot, moist breaths puffed against Long Ling’s back, and cold, damp liquid dripped down, gradually soaking Long Ling’s thin clothes. An unspoken sadness slowly spread.
Long Ling initially wanted to struggle out of Violet’s embrace, but when she realized Violet was silently weeping, her heart couldn’t help but ache too.
She had never seen Violet so sorrowful.
Violet was always arrogant and domineering, as if she wouldn’t even experience the emotion of sadness.
A dragon like this wept silently, not wanting to be seen.
The rain under the eaves dripped rhythmically into the shallow puddles. The two who hadn’t embraced for a long time held each other again, like two small beasts quietly licking their wounds.
Long Ling forcefully pulled down Violet’s tightly clasped wrists, stopping her from continuing to hold her. Feeling wronged, her voice couldn’t help but choke up: “When you locked me in the secret room, you wouldn’t listen to my explanation. I don’t want to talk to you now, either.”
Violet still hugged Long Ling tightly, her voice dry and hoarse: “I just didn’t want you to leave me.”
She had locked Long Ling in her favorite secret room, where she kept her most beloved gold coins and gems. In her heart, Long Ling was the same as her dearest gold coins and gems.
She thought that by locking her up, no one could take her treasure away. When Long Ling said she wanted to leave her and go with her grandmother, she felt Long Ling had betrayed their promise, that all the things she said about staying by her side forever were lies.
She had been waiting for Long Ling to come back, hoping Long Ling would regret losing her, but she waited in vain. All of Long Ling’s affection for her was about to disappear.
“I won’t lock you in the secret room again. We’ll be together in the room, every day from now on, just the two of us. Don’t leave my side again.” Violet’s voice sounded like it was weeping blood. Every day without Long Ling, she couldn’t sleep. She missed every single minute and second, they spent together.
Long Ling’s eyes slowly turned red: “You hit me too. You hit me so hard, and you washed me several times with cold water. I won’t forgive you. Go away!”
Long Ling struggled fiercely, even using her elbows to push, but Violet’s soft arms wrapped tighter. She lowered her thick eyelashes, tears trembling on them. Her long, dark, curly hair looked even more disheveled, having long since lost all its pride, silently responding to Long Ling’s dissatisfaction and complaints.
Violet’s slender fingers intertwined with Long Ling’s. Her voice, overly mournful, carried a touch of tenderness: “When I hit you, my heart hurt too. I smelled another Omega’s scent on you, and you didn’t explain why you were meeting another woman privately. Later, I found out she was your mother, but you had clearly already wanted to leave me. You wanted to abandon me, didn’t you?”
She could understand that no dragon wanted their partner to be a crippled dragon. Long Ling was too young. The sincerity of a young dragon might gradually fade with time. If her body never recovered, would the love remain the same as before?
The tears in Violet’s eyes flashed with an almost imperceptible vulnerability: “I don’t want you to like anyone else. I don’t want your heart to always be occupied by other things. I want you to be full of me, every moment. I am that greedy. I want so much, Long Ling. My love isn’t something I want to give away easily, but whenever I can’t help but get closer to you, I just want you to cling to me more, and only care about me.”
Her breath was so close to Long Ling’s ear, carrying a slight nasal sound. Long Ling’s heart was struck repeatedly, making her increasingly flustered. She had never heard Violet say such things, nor had she ever seen Violet show the slightest weakness.
When she first saw Violet, she had already developed a fondness for her. Even though Violet was as brutal and tyrannical as the rumors suggested, covered in sharp thorns, with a tough exterior, and even mentally saying she hated the strawberry-scented little dragon—which she heard clearly.
Violet wasn’t a good dragon. She liked to bully her, and her moments of tenderness were brief. But her heartbeat wouldn’t lie to her.
The first time they were intimate, she really wanted to hug Violet, but she didn’t dare. She couldn’t help but feel sorry for Violet. Seeing Violet angry or sad, she was willing to bow her head, apologize, and coax her.
Violet’s every move always affected her heart. After leaving Violet, she told herself to be happy, cheerful, and to love life, but when she saw the beautiful starry sky, her eyes would still involuntarily become teary.
She tried many ways to cheer herself up: raising a Moon Shadow Rabbit, going out with her mother to do business, and opening a pub to make herself busy again.
Just when she told herself to forget Violet, Violet reappeared.
Long Ling raised her hand to wipe away the tears rolling down her face: “Didn’t you get tired of the strawberry-scented little dragon a long time ago? You don’t like my pheromones either. Now that we’ve separated, you have many Alphas to choose from. Anyway, you are the Duchess, and your legs are healed now. You will surely have more suitors in the future.”
“I don’t want your love either. You always control me, not letting me do this or that. I have no freedom at all!”
Violet hadn’t expected the reason Long Ling held a grudge was because of a casual, angry remark she’d made.
Long Ling had already said she didn’t want her and was leaving with her grandmother. What could she do? Should she have pleaded with Long Ling not to leave, that she couldn’t live without the strawberry-scented little dragon?
She loved the strawberry dragon so much that she planted 100 acres of strawberries at home.
She just said she was tired of the strawberry-scented pheromones, and the little strawberry dragon took it to heart?!
Violet’s high nose rubbed against Long Ling’s cheek, her voice low and husky, with a hint of resentment: “Then you just left without a second thought. You forgot how you promised me. You said you would always be with me. If you hadn’t left me, we would be getting married soon.”
The faint scent of roses wafted toward Long Ling’s nose. Long Ling’s body instinctively felt a rush of heat and she immediately pushed Violet away.
She would never believe a single word the bad woman said again.
Long Ling’s eyes were slightly red, and she turned her face away: “I won’t marry you.”
Violet’s eyes dimmed involuntarily, and she said mournfully: “I won’t control you anymore. You can do whatever you want, as long as you come back to me, okay?”
Long Ling’s mood also became low. Looking at Violet, she said, “It’s late. I’m closing up. If Your Grace likes staying here, I can give this pub to you as well.”
She collected the menu and the storybook she had been reading from the table and put them into the bar counter’s drawer.
There were still some leftover wine bottles and empty glasses on the tables in the pub that needed to be tidied up, otherwise, the pub would look messy when it opened tomorrow.
Long Ling lost the heart to manage the place and didn’t want to tidy up. The moment she thought of Violet being next to her, she would lose her composure and be unable to do anything.
As if deliberately quarreling with herself, Long Ling went back to collect the empty wine bottles and put them into the storage basket.
She didn’t look at Violet the whole time, doing these things mechanically until she reached the back of the kitchen. She placed the empty wine glasses down, and large drops of tears started falling.
Long Ling forcefully sniffed, trying to stop herself from being so pathetic, but the tears wouldn’t stop.
Feelings of grievance and sadness rushed over her. She turned on the faucet and washed her face. The icy water made her face pale, finally suppressing the painful emotions deep within her heart.
When Long Ling turned around, Violet was standing by the kitchen doorway. Her posture was straight, and she was wearing a black coat, casting a long shadow.
As she came out of the kitchen, Violet followed her.
Now that Violet no longer needed a wheelchair, her steps were much quieter after her legs returned to normal. Long Ling couldn’t hear the sound of the wheelchair rolling anymore.
She used to always follow behind Violet, and now it was Violet’s turn to walk behind her.
The rain started falling lightly again outside the pub.
Long Ling was currently staying at the city-outskirts manor bought by Mo Dai and had hired a carriage driver, but she didn’t know if the driver hadn’t arrived on time because of the heavy rain.
Long Ling decided to leave directly in the rain. She treated Violet as if she were air, walked to the pub door, and turned off the lights.
A cold wind blew in from outside, and Long Ling couldn’t help but shiver from the cold.
Suddenly, someone grabbed her hand and pulled her into an embrace. The faint rose scent enveloped her.
Violet’s body wasn’t much warmer than hers. Her body had been chilled through by the cold wind, just like Long Ling’s, and felt equally icy.
Violet tightly wrapped Long Ling in her black coat, completely enveloping the two of them in a small, self-contained world.
It was pitch black all around, with only the pattering of the rain falling relentlessly.
Only when they were pressed together like this did Long Ling truly feels that Violet was much thinner than before.
Two equally cold dragons, embracing for warmth like this, found that their body temperatures slowly began to rise.
She couldn’t help but look at Violet’s eyes. In the dim light, crystalline tears streamed down those dark golden eyes.
“Don’t leave me.” Her voice held an unmistakable vulnerability.
Long Ling had fully prepared herself not to worry about the bad woman anymore, but her heart still couldn’t help but clench. It hurt.
