- Chapter 63 - Have you fallen for someone else?
Violet thought that Long Ling would soften her heart and go home with her, but Long Ling told her to go back, saying that she now had her own home.
Violet’s eyes dimmed: “Have you fallen for someone else?”
Long Ling didn’t know why Violet would think of that, and shook her head, saying, “There’s no possibility between us anymore, Violet. I have the life I want to live now.”
Violet stared at Long Ling’s cheek, her tone softening considerably: “I waited for you for a month. As long as you come back, I won’t hold the past against you. We’ll be together properly.”
Violet had imprisoned her for so long; Long Ling didn’t dare to easily believe anything Violet said.
Violet saw the slight shimmer of tears in Long Ling’s icy blue eyes, suggesting some emotion, and a glimmer of hope rose in her heart.
Long Ling took a step back: “I need to go. Let’s not see each other again.”
She turned and left immediately, quickly getting onto the carriage, not giving Violet a chance to catch up.
Long Ling clasped her hands together, warning herself not to look back. She told Mo Dai, “Let’s go, Mom. She shouldn’t chase after us.”
Mo Dai looked at Long Ling’s red eyes, lifted the curtain, and glanced back at Violet, who was sitting in a wheelchair outside, her face pale.
Mo Dai hadn’t heard what they said, but Long Ling’s attitude when facing Violet alone this time was incredibly firm, which even surprised her as a mother.
Mo Dai was a little worried: “Should we go straight back to the Elf Tribe and skip the Goblins?”
Long Ling’s eyelashes trembled, tears streamed down, and her voice wavered: “No need. I won’t let her affect me anymore. Stick to the original plan.”
Seeing this, Mo Dai didn’t press further and urged the driver to depart quickly.
The carriage entered the Kuska Forest and disappeared into the dense layers of the woods.
Violet’s heart tightened, feeling a needle-like pain, as she watched Long Ling’s figure leave her sight.
She had already swallowed her pride and asked her to stay; she could give Long Ling a better life.
She had asked Long Ling if she had fallen for someone else. Why couldn’t she answer her? Was she afraid that Violet would go and kill the elf?
Violet clenched her fist, her nails digging deeply into her flesh.
Lolan saw Violet sitting motionless in the wheelchair and worried that she might faint, having not eaten or drunk water for days and nights. She quickly walked over and asked, “Violet, are you okay? Little Long still won’t come back with you?”
A faint redness lingered in the corner of Violet’s eyes. She lifted her chin slightly: “She will return to my side.”
Lolan believed in Violet’s power and couldn’t help but ask, “Are we still chasing her? Do you want to drink the healing potion Long Ling gave you first and eat something?”
Lolan handed the treasure box containing the healing potion to Violet and signaled for Elena to prepare some food and water.
Violet lowered her gaze to the packaging box. Even the text on it was Elvish. Long Ling told her she loved living with the Elf Tribe, so were all the happy moments she spoke of with Violet before fake?
A hint of sadness flashed in Violet’s eyes. She opened the treasure box and took out the magic potion inside. The pale green liquid in the glass bottle emitted specks of light.
Thinking that Long Ling had once held this magic potion, Violet’s slender fingers couldn’t help but gently rub the bottle twice.
She opened the potion bottle, tilted her neck back, and drank it in one gulp.
As soon as the pale green potion entered her body, it surged through every part like a turbulent ocean. It was as if countless green light clusters were repairing her injured legs and dragon tail. An unprecedented sense of power gradually filled her body again.
Violet felt her legs slowly repairing, but the injury had been long-term. She couldn’t stand up all at once now, nor could she walk for long periods like a normal dragon; she would need slow exercise.
Lolan watched her expectantly: “Are you feeling better, Violet?”
Violet nodded slightly: “Much better. I should be able to stand up in a few more days.”
Joy flashed in Lolan’s eyes: “That’s wonderful! You won’t have to use a wheelchair anymore!”
Violet opened her red lips: “I need to go to the Misty Forest and find the Elf homeland.”
The little strawberry dragon shouldn’t think that by giving her medicine, they were even. Even if her leg injury healed, she wouldn’t let go so easily!
Lolan immediately tried to dissuade her: “No one has ever found the Elf homeland, Violet. It’s too difficult. Your legs have just healed; you should rest at home for a while longer!”
Violet twisted the ruby on her fingertip and ignored Lolan. She wouldn’t wait in one place for Long Ling to be with someone else.
Long Ling assumed Violet would have returned to the Illidari Estate. After her carriage entered the Kuska Forest, her mind frequently flashed with images of Violet’s pale face, cold fingers, and injured eyes.
She had been gone for so many days, and Violet looked like she hadn’t been well, but when Violet told her to leave immediately, she hadn’t hesitated at all. She had imprisoned her without cause, and there had been no apology even now.
She wouldn’t shed another tear for Violet. In the past, she was too eager to please Violet, wanting to survive well in this world. Now, she wouldn’t be fooled by the bad woman again.
“Xiao Ling, the goblin chieftain is selling the roots of the carnivorous vine, and they are very intact. Come and take a look.” Mo Dai waved to her from a distance.
Long Ling saw the goblins for the first time. They were short like dwarfs, but their skin was dark green, they were bald and hunchbacked, their ears were pointy, and their deep red eyes revealed greed.
The goblin chieftain was holding a gold coin Mo Dai had given him, aiming it at the faint light coming from the ground. The dazzling golden light shone on the goblin’s hooked nose, making him look somewhat cunning.
This particular goblin was clearly different from the others. Its sharp claws were adorned with mismatched gemstone rings. Its chest muscles were stronger than those of other goblins. The surrounding goblins were its subordinates, working tirelessly with pickaxes, bare-chested and in unison, digging up more carnivorous vine roots, as well as the dark earth lotus and fire moss growing underground.
On the way, Long Ling heard Mo Dai say that the more intact the carnivorous vine roots were, the better. Some necromancers would extract carnivorous sap from these roots and mix it with fire moss to feed to arena beasts. Beasts that ate the carnivorous sap would burst with powerful strength; it sounded a bit like a stimulant.
However, the roots of the carnivorous vine were as hard as iron, making the digging process time-consuming and laborious. The air underground was thin, and only goblins could work there continuously.
In the dark, damp cave, one could vaguely hear the sound of dripping water. Everything around looked like an abandoned ruin. Items like the fire moss were chaotically placed in broken baskets. There were not only animal droppings but also discarded tools lying around.
The air was stagnant, and combined with the presence of a group of smelly goblins, Long Ling felt an urge to blow all these messy things away.
The short goblin chieftain sometimes blew on the gold coin, listening to the sound next to its ear, and other times used tongs to clamp the gold coin and roast it over a fire. Only after confirming the coin was fine did he hunch his back and say, “One bag of gold coins, take all of this.”
Mo Dai casually tossed a small bag of gold coins to the goblin chieftain and instructed her subordinates to carry the goods. Like them, the subordinates were already suffering from headaches due to the goblin’s stench.
Long Ling couldn’t help but be stunned. One bag of gold coins was too cheap. The last time they went to the Orcs to buy fine brewed beer, they gave five large chests of gold coins.
Long Ling helped the subordinate pass a few baskets of goods. After they were weighed, she suddenly noticed that a lot of fire moss and dark earth lotus had been stuffed among the carnivorous vine roots.
She stopped what she was doing and looked at Mo Dai. The goblin chieftain behind her also noticed her unusual behavior, revealing its greedy nature, and immediately stuffed the two bags of gold coins into its embrace.
The goblin chieftain’s red eyes flashed with ferocity. Its breathing became ragged and heavy, and it picked up the skull staff beside it.
Mo Dai shook her head at Long Ling, took Long Ling’s hand, and led her towards the exit of the cave.
The goblin chieftain let out a sigh of relief, lay back down on the chair, and used its long, sharp fingernails to fiddle with the gold coins in the bag.
Mo Dai put down her handkerchief, took a few deep breaths of the fresh air above, and then spoke to Long Ling: “That cunning goblin chieftain, I don’t know where it heard that the carnivorous vine roots are more expensive than fire moss and dark earth lotus, and it only wanted to sell the carnivorous vine roots to me. But no matter how much it mixes in, the required quantity cannot be less. It’s only a hundred gold coins, so let it mess around.”
Long Ling understood Mo Dai’s meaning. The goblin chieftain needed to feel like it was profiting so that it would continue to cooperate with them.
After they finished loading the goods and left the Kuska Forest, they soon arrived at the next city. They sold the carnivorous vine roots, fire moss, and dark earth lotus separately to necromancers and alchemists. They earned the five large chests of gold coins they had spent on the fine brewed beer.
They brought this wealth back to the Elf Tribe, gifted a portion of the pre-reserved items to the High Priest, and Mo Dai took her daughter and her elf wife to the secret room where the gold coins were stored. Long Ling glanced at it; it was much less than the wealth Violet had accumulated, but her mother was already very impressive.
They returned two days earlier than the originally estimated time for the Mother Tree Festival. Mo Dai distributed the decorative goods to the elves.
This was the first important festival Long Ling spent with the Elf Tribe. All the elves had to decorate not only the tribal lands but also the entire forest.
Long Ling and Mo Dai’s houses were close together and needed to be adorned with pretty decorations. Long Ling had also bought some rose-patterned wallpaper on the way and used it to decorate her bedroom.
Shelley could cut very beautiful colored paper patterns. Since her daughter and wife were dragons, she cut out many lovely small dragons.
Long Ling cooked some paste and stuck the small dragon cutouts onto her glass window, and she also put a pair of small dragons on her mothers’ room.
The red small dragons holding gold coins looked very festive, and when the door was closed, they were symmetrical, feeling a bit like celebrating the New Year in her former world.
Long Ling was raised by her grandmother, who picked her up, and she had never celebrated the New Year with her mother. If her grandmother in this world hadn’t returned to the Arnold family, they would all be together as a family.
Long Ling’s fingers touched the red small dragon paper cutout, and she couldn’t help but think of Violet again. She had even thought about having a dragon egg with Violet.
Shelley saw Long Ling staring blankly at the paper cutout and thought she might be lonely staying home with her, so she asked, “You’ve been at home lately. Why don’t you go out and play? Why aren’t you going to see Aeloris?”
Long Ling was slightly stunned by the question from her frail mother: “She must be busy. I’m fine on my own at home.”
Shelley encouraged her: “Go out and see. Maybe others need your help, too. For all elves, the Mother Tree Festival is a celebration for the Mother Tree, whether it’s preparing a feast, going hunting, or decorating the forest.”
Long Ling’s eyes lit up when she heard they could prepare a feast: “When Mom and I went out to trade, we brought back a lot of delicious fruit. I can prepare the dishes I’m good at for this feast.”
Shelley was relieved to see her daughter’s face blossom into a smile: “Mom looks forward to tasting your cooking.”
Long Ling left her treehouse and happened to run into a large group of elves on the road who were going hunting together.
They waved at her and gave Long Ling a horse and prepared bow and arrows. Following behind them, Long Ling felt just like one of the elves.
The last time, when she was with Violet, Long Ling held a gun and didn’t dare to hunt large prey. This time, they were numerous, and the Elf Tribe was very skilled at hunting. In less than half a day, they had hunted enough prey for the feast.
Long Ling contributed all the fruit she had brought back from trading. Besides tropical fruits like bananas and mangoes, she had several boxes of fresh red cherries picked from the orchard, which the elves on the ship had helped keep fresh. They could be used to make a cherry-meat dish for the Mother Tree Festival feast.
These cherries were bought from the Orcs. Every single one was as round and luscious as an agate stone. Even the elves couldn’t help but praise them, noting the Orcs’ excellent farming techniques.
Some elves wanted to trade with her, but Long Ling was busy cooking, so she had to say that these were offerings for the Mother Tree and that she would bring them some next time if they needed any.
When Aeloris passed by, she happened to see the slender-waisted, long-legged elves surrounding Long Ling, placing orders for fruit after the Mother Tree Festival.
