Life After Being Claimed by the Disabled Dragon Lady - Chapter 18
Violet was supposed to be resting at the manor, but there were too many matters concerning the fiefdom this spring.
Sitting alone in her office, she finished processing a portion of the official duties and couldn’t help but pinch the bridge of her nose.
That little Alpha dragon had at least known to send her a message via the magic crystal yesterday. Today, apart from a groggy snuggle this morning, she hadn’t looked for her again.
Violet s dark golden eyes instantly narrowed into a cold slit. Perhaps Longling wasn’t as gentle and submissive as she seemed, but was using it as a disguise and a means of compromise to make her lower her guard.
Her leg was injured and numb, preventing Longling from enjoying the pleasure of tail-entwining, which must be why Longling’s longing was only verbal. Even though there was a way to contact her at home, Longling hadn’t reached out to check on her.
A hint of coldness flashed in Violet ‘s eyes. The more she thought this way, the more her injured leg began to throb, and even her scent gland felt a sense of emptiness.
Is a body that has tasted Alpha pheromones so easily parched?
When she returned, no matter how flattering Longling was, she would make that little Alpha dragon understand the price of provoking her.
A crisp knock suddenly sounded at the office door.
Violet didn’t lift her head, her voice icy: “Come in.”
An extremely elegant and beautiful woman in a dark green dress walked in, striding across the pearl-white floor: “Look who managed to anger our Duchess this much?”
Violet still offered no pleasant expression upon seeing her cousin, Crown Princess Lorraine: “Why are you here instead of at the capital?”
“His Majesty sent me to run an errand, so I stopped by to see you.”
Lorraine found a comfortable spot to sit down, tucked her long hair behind her ear, took a slender cigarette out of a case, elegantly held it between her fingers, and lit the tip.
“How is your health lately? I heard your old lady found you a young Alpha. She’s a beauty from the Arnold family. Can she take good care of you?”
Violet coldly glanced at her: “No smoking allowed here.”
Lorraine let out a soft laugh, stubbed out the cigarette in her hand, and flicked it into a nearby trash can: “You have the most rules here. I’ll listen to you. Now, tell me about your little Alpha. I hear she’s a little dragon who just came of age. Is she a little green dragon or a little black dragon?”
Violet picked up a new stack of folders to review the upcoming legislation: “If you’re so free, I’ll inform His Majesty of your current location.”
“Such a spoilsport, hiding her away like a treasure. Is she some kind of unparalleled beauty?”
Lorraine joked with Violette while leaning lazily on the soft sofa.
“Don’t tell His Majesty, Vi. I finally have a moment of peace. If His Majesty knows, that little brat Beverly will surely know and follow me, making a terrible fuss.”
Violet thought of the annoying Alpha who hadn’t looked for her all day—hardly a treasure, but rather a source of trouble sent from heaven.
With an extra person in the office who kept chattering, Violet frowned. She didn’t welcome outsiders casually encroaching on her territory.
Violet slightly lifted her chin and coldly issued an eviction order: “When are you leaving?”
Lorraine softly complained: “Vi, don’t always be so cold. You don’t welcome your cousin who traveled a long way at all. You surely don’t think I’m here to interrupt your sweet life with your little Alpha, do you?”
Violet looked at her noncommittally, her cold and beautiful face showing no emotion.
Lorraine got the hint. She had originally just come to check on Violet ‘s health, but now she suddenly changed her mind. She wanted to see what the Alpha that Violet guarded so closely looked like.
Longling arrived at the Gliss Harbour in the late afternoon by carriage. She was afraid she had come too late and missed Violet ‘s leaving time.
“Miss, you cannot enter. The building ahead is the Executive Office where Duchess Violette is located. Only staff members are allowed past this point.”
The guard raised his cold and sharp ceremonial sword, blocking Longling outside the Executive Office.
Yule quickly said: “This is Miss Longling, Duchess Violette’s fiancée!”
The two guards exchanged a look and sheathed their swords, but stood dutifully like two iron mountains in front of Longling.
“Please present your credentials and cooperate with our procedure.”
Longling had nothing on her to prove her relationship with the Dragon Lady except for a handkerchief she had received from the Dragon Lady.
The Dragon Lady’s handkerchief was currently tucked into her dress, close to her body. In her world, this was considered a woman’s intimate item.
Longling loved the scent of roses clinging to the handkerchief and had shamelessly claimed it for herself, but she couldn’t possibly show such a thing to these guards.
Just as Longling and the guards were at a stalemate, Yule had an idea. He quietly walked up to Longling and pointed at the violet crest engraved on the carriage.
Longling immediately understood and told the guards: “This is Duchess Violette’s family crest. You should recognize it, right?”
The black carriage was simple and low-key, unlike the luxurious carriage Violette usually rode, and it wasn’t accompanied by a large number of guards, only the carriage driver. However, the golden violet crest inlaid on the carriage body made all the guards’ expressions change once they clearly saw it.
They immediately bowed to Longling, begging for her forgiveness for their oversight.
It was understandable, as the future Duchess-Consort’s demeanor was too different from Duchess Violette’s.
Every morning, before Duchess Violette’s magnificent carriage even arrived, as soon as the chief guard saw the distant dazzling light from the purple gem roof, he would notify everyone to open all the Executive Office doors. Anyone who was a little slow would be scolded by the guard captain.
Once, a guard was lazy and was reprimanded by the Dragon Lady’s dragon guard who twisted his arm on the spot.
In short, the tyrannical Duchess Violette and the gentle, sweet future Duchess-Consort standing before them created absolutely no association in their minds.
Longling didn’t linger with the guards. She was full of anticipation to see the Dragon Lady. After passing the guards’ checkpoint, she walked towards the Executive Office building.
The chief guard personally escorted her, specifically to the Executive Officer’s office.
When Longling entered the magnificently decorated Executive Office, the surroundings were filled with solemn and majestic cold light.
Staff members in formal attire rushed to and fro, carrying documents.
Longling realized her impulsive visit had brought her to a very formidable place.
She didn’t feel this way when she was with the Dragon Lady at home, but suddenly arriving here felt like entering the Purple-Gold Hall of the Imperial Palace, as if she were about to meet the Emperor.
But since she was already here, she had been an imperial chef in the palace; what great storms hadn’t she weathered?
Longling clenched her fists, puffed out her chest, and pretended to be well-traveled, looking straight ahead.
Before long, the chief guard led her to the Executive Officer’s office.
The office door was tightly shut, and the chief guard gestured for her to enter.
Longling’s shoulders immediately slumped. She suddenly felt that waiting outside the door was quite good—a bit cowardly, but very safe.
A true warrior must always swim against the current!
Longling took a deep breath and slowly walked to the door.
She had just mustered the courage to knock when she suddenly heard voices from inside.
“How did that young Alpha dragon taste?”
“Vi, are you treating her like a little sweetheart now? If you don’t tell me today, I won’t leave.”
Longling’s heart couldn’t help but pound. She pricked up her ears and pressed herself against the door.
