Let's Get Married on the First Day of Rebirth - Chapter 18
How could she sleep when her wife was still awake!
With this thought in mind, Qu Ange first had a brief chat with Zuo Qingyan to confirm their meeting time. After that, she spent some time checking stocks, getting a rough idea of what to buy, and then started scrolling through Weibo.
At this point, online competition wasn’t as fierce as it would be in the future. In ten years, trends would change every two or three days, with new buzzwords cycling weekly. But now, a hot topic could linger online for a month or two. Her “Fairy Shedding Tears” post was already being widely shared, and her seemingly dormant Weibo account had gained dozens of followers. Some even joked in the comments about her username, “Let’s Get Married Tomorrow,” asking— [So, did you get married yet?]
Unable to resist the urge to show off, Qu Ange pulled out their marriage certificate from her bag, snapped a photo of the two covers, and glanced at Xu Mi. Xu Mi seemed oblivious, engrossed in her computer screen. After taking the photo, Qu Ange carefully tucked the certificate back into a hidden compartment in her bag and posted on Weibo.
[Successfully married! 「Photo」]
She couldn’t help but grin foolishly at the post. After a moment, she decided she might as well capitalize on the momentum, even though she had many other plans. So, she created another Weibo account. Struggling to come up with a name and figuring this account would just be temporary, she settled on “quuuannii”—a jumbled, vaguely name-related mess.
For her first post, she wanted to share a beautiful selfie. Flipping through her gallery, she realized the bathroom shots, while stunning, weren’t exactly appropriate for public posting. So, she grabbed her phone and took a fresh one.
Truth be told, Qu Ange wasn’t great at selfies. Her photos often drew teasing comments like “relying on Nuwa’s favoritism,” but she thought they looked fine. She snapped a few bare-faced shots under the harsh overhead light of the bedroom and posted them with the caption— [Today is a happy day~]
In her past life, her Weibo posts would get instant engagement. Now, the silence after posting felt strange. Scrolling aimlessly, she eventually dozed off. The next morning, she opened her eyes to find Xu Mi still at the desk, in the same position as the night before, giving her a surreal sense of time standing still. But sunlight streamed through the window, confirming it was indeed morning. She bolted upright and asked, “Did you not sleep at all last night?”
Xu Mi replied, “I did. Just woke up.”
“Really?”
Qu Ange eyed her skeptically, leaning in to scrutinize Xu Mi’s face. She did look well-rested, with no dark circles, just a slightly puzzled lift of her brows. Staring at those delicate features—the lovely eyes, petite face, and soft, full lips—Qu Ange impulsively darted forward and planted a kiss.
This time, she moved too fast for Xu Mi to react. Xu Mi froze as Qu Ange retreated with a cheeky grin, saying, “Good morning kiss.”
Xu Mi pursed her lips slightly. “You didn’t brush your teeth, did you? Gross.”
She turned away, appearing as steady as a mountain, but Qu Ange noticed her ears were bright red, realizing the other person was also affected. Her heart leaped with joy, and she jumped off the bed to wash up in the bathroom. After brushing her teeth, she came out to find her mother looking at her with disdain, saying, “You seem quite relaxed.”
Qu Ange replied, “…Food should be eaten bite by bite, and things should be done step by step.”
Her mother sneered, “Fine. Let’s see how many steps you take in a month.”
Her father chimed in coolly from the side, “My expectations aren’t high. Just don’t take any steps backward.”
Qu Ange: “…”
It seemed this home was no longer a place she could stay.
After breakfast, her parents went to the bank first to transfer money to Qu Ange. Meanwhile, Xu Mi went home to return the household register to its original place. The two met up at the bus station. From a distance, Xu Mi saw Qu Ange laden with bags of all sizes, nearly swallowed by the luggage. Despite carrying a woven sack and an army-green canvas bag, dressed simply in a white T-shirt and jeans, she still stood out strikingly—almost like those celebrity airport snapshots in entertainment news.
While Xu Mi stood there momentarily dazed, she noticed a man approaching Qu Ange to strike up a conversation. Qu Ange waved her hand and said something in response. Xu Mi walked over, and upon seeing her, Qu Ange eagerly waved, “Over here, Mimi.”
Xu Mi approached and said, “I saw you. Let’s go! It’s almost time to board.”
She didn’t glance at the man but asked after he had walked away, “What did he say to you?”
Qu Ange replied, “He said he’s from out of town and wanted to know if there’s anything fun to do around here. Honestly, I couldn’t think of anything off the top of my head.”
Xu Mi looked up at Qu Ange’s face, seeing her earnest expression—clearly unsuspecting of any ulterior motives—and decided not to say anything more. After boarding the bus, Qu Ange pointed at the various packages, explaining, “These are clothes, these are shoes, this is shrimp, this is crab, this is pickles, this is dried seaweed.”
“Did your mom pack all this for you?” Xu Mi asked.
“Yeah,” Qu Ange nodded.
She sat down and turned to gaze out the window so Xu Mi wouldn’t see her eyes welling up. She knew her parents were under immense pressure in this situation, yet despite their harsh words, their actions still showed support and care. How could she not be moved?
But compared to her parents, Xu Mi made her feel even more indebted. Parental love came with conditions, but Xu Mi? It seemed as though she was unconditionally accepting her. Qu Ange composed herself and turned back to Xu Mi, only to find her frowning at her phone screen, engrossed in something.
Qu Ange leaned in to peek, but Xu Mi suddenly pushed her away, asking, “What are you doing?”
Qu Ange pouted, “I just wanted to see what you were looking at.”
Xu Mi’s expression turned serious. “No.”
Qu Ange grew nervous. “Wh-why not? I mean, I know it’s not good to peek at someone else’s phone, but… but why…?” Her voice trailed off, fading to a whisper, yet Xu Mi still heard her mutter, “…Are you chatting with someone else?”
Xu Mi froze, flipping her phone screen-down onto her lap. For a moment, she didn’t know how to respond. She hadn’t expected Qu Ange to jump to that conclusion.
Seeing Xu Mi like this, Qu Ange grew even more nervous. She tugged at the hem of Xu Mi’s clothes with her fingers and stammered, “Um, about that… the blind date your mom mentioned…”
Yesterday, between having a dishcloth thrown at her and successfully getting their marriage certificate, Qu Ange had completely forgotten about this matter. Now that she remembered, she didn’t really believe Xu Mi would go through with it, but she couldn’t help worrying. Her voice lacked confidence as she asked. Seeing her like this, Xu Mi didn’t feel annoyed—instead, she found it amusing. She replied bluntly, “I didn’t contact him. Stop overthinking it.”
Qu Ange let out a sigh of relief and immediately broke into a bright smile. “I knew it! I trust you completely.”
Xu Mi held up her phone. “Do you still want to see?”
Qu Ange’s expression fell again, looking as pitiful as a dog begging for a walk. “I still kind of want to look…”
Xu Mi turned the screen away, her face warming slightly.
The truth was, last night, out of curiosity, she had browsed through Weibo for a while and ended up getting a little too absorbed. She had followed several food bloggers out of personal interest and couldn’t resist leaving a comment. Before she knew it, she had gotten into an argument with someone.
Qu Ange leaned in and saw a lengthy, unsent comment from Xu Mi in the replies, passionately arguing about how delicious savory tofu pudding was.
Qu Ange couldn’t help but laugh. But soon, her laughter faded as she remembered the selfie she had posted on Weibo yesterday—so far, no one had recognized her.
