Let Me Go, My Childhood Sweetheart [Rebirth] - Chapter 51
On the drive back, Jin Yi’s face remained a deep shade of crimson. She kept her head down, not daring to look at Chu Weiran for even a second.
First, she was afraid Chu Weiran would read her thoughts. Second, she was afraid that if she looked at her, those thoughts would only spiral further. Since getting together with Chu Weiran, Jin Yi felt like she didn’t recognize herself anymore. She knew she loved her, but she hadn’t expected to crave her to such an extent.
Once they arrived home, Chu Weiran told Jin Yi to shower first. After two long train rides and multiple taxi trips, she had gathered quite a bit of road dust. Jin Yi took the pajamas Chu Weiran had prepared and retreated into the bathroom.
Inside the steamy room, Jin Yi stared blankly at the garment in her hands. It was different from her usual style; she typically slept in oversized T-shirts. This, however, was a white lace nightgown. It looked brand new. While not as provocative as some of the sets Chu Weiran wore, it was more than enough to make Jin Yi feel bashful.
She let out a long sigh and set the gown aside. It’s fine… Ranran has seen everything already. It’s just a nightgown.
After that pep talk, she showered quickly and put on the gown with a stoic expression. She tried to maintain her mental composure as she stepped out, but the moment she saw Chu Weiran, her resolve shattered. Her toes curled involuntarily, and her face felt like it was on fire.
“Hurry up and go shower,” Jin Yi said, her voice dry. She kept her head down, trying to brainwash herself: If I can’t see her, she can’t see me.
“Okay~” Chu Weiran agreed readily, but as she brushed past Jin Yi, her hand seemed to intentionally graze Jin Yi’s shoulder.
Jin Yi flinched and stepped back, looking up just in time to catch the mischievous smirk on Chu Weiran’s face.
Sitting on the edge of the bed, Jin Yi finally realized something was wrong with her logic. Today, Chu Weiran was the one transforming into a bunny girl. Why was she the one being shy? With that thought, her nerves settled. Her face stopped burning. She sat there playing with her phone, waiting.
Putting on a bunny girl outfit takes time. By the time Chu Weiran emerged, Jin Yi was already tucked under the covers with only her head poking out, engrossed in her phone.
Chu Weiran walked to the bedside and looked down at her, sounding slightly displeased. “Are you going to play on your phone the whole time?”
Hearing the voice, Jin Yi immediately looked up. Her eyes were met with a stunning sight: the soft, white curves Chu Weiran had purposefully emphasized. The outfit made her look incredibly seductive—long rabbit ears, a round fluffy tail, stockings with garters, and legs that looked endless.
Jin Yi’s gaze went straight. All sense of shame vanished, replaced by an urgent desire to “taste” the bunny girl.
Before the bunny girl could react, she was pinned to the bed. Jin Yi swallowed hard and whispered, “The phone isn’t fun. I want to play with the bunny girl.”
That night, Jin Yi explored many positions she had never tried before. In the past, she had relied on instinct. But this time, the bunny girl was extremely proactive, leading Jin Yi to discover quite a few new “tricks.” By the time they finally slept, it was 4:00 AM.
The next day, they had nothing scheduled until the evening, so they were able to sleep until they woke up naturally. The real birthday party was that night. Since their birthdays were only a day apart, they had grown up celebrating together—four adults and two children. It had been years since they had a joint celebration, but now that they were together, it was only natural.
Jiang Qiong and Zheng Yuan had started calling them early that morning, but the two were dead to the world and missed every call. Around noon, Jin Yi woke up in a daze and heard a phone ringing. Without checking whose it was, she reached over and answered.
“Hello…” Her voice was thick with sleep.
Jiang Qiong and Zheng Yuan exchanged a look, both seeing surprise and delight on the other’s face. At Jiang Qiong’s urging, Zheng Yuan spoke up: “Xiao Yi, it’s Auntie… are you two not awake yet?”
“Mm…” Jin Yi squinted at Chu Weiran sleeping beside her and nodded. “Yeah… Ranran is still sleeping.”
“Alright then. Auntie will call you back later.”
“Okay, Auntie.”
Jin Yi hung up, rolled over to wrap her arm around Chu Weiran’s waist, and drifted back to sleep. Two minutes later, she bolted upright.
“Wait a second…” she muttered. She checked her own phone. No call history. That meant… she had answered Chu Weiran’s phone.
Her sudden movement woke Chu Weiran, who rolled over to hug her. “What’s wrong?”
“Your mom just called.”
“Mm… and?”
“She called you, but I answered!”
Still half-asleep, Jin Yi had thought she was dreaming, or perhaps that Zheng Yuan had called her directly.
“Oh.” Chu Weiran was perfectly calm, but Jin Yi was panicking.
“If we’re like this… they’ll know, won’t they?”
“Why didn’t you think about all that while you were exhausting me last night?”
Jin Yi, effectively shut down by the remark, blushed and fell silent.
“I’ll call her back in a bit to see what’s up.”
That effectively ended their sleep. After a long, affectionate shower and ordering some food, Chu Weiran called Zheng Yuan back on speaker so Jin Yi could listen. Jin Yi was terrified, but once the call connected, Zheng Yuan didn’t mention them being together at all. She simply told them to come home for a joint birthday dinner and that they were preparing all their favorite dishes.
They got ready and drove home. Chu Weiran was still sleepy, so Jin Yi took the wheel. Chu Weiran intended to keep her company, but she was out within ten minutes.
Halfway through the drive, Qu Yin called. Not wanting to wake Chu Weiran, Jin Yi ignored it and sent a WeChat message instead.
Jin Yi: “What’s up?” Qu Yin: “I got dumped.”
Jin Yi was stunned. Qu Yin had messaged her “Happy Birthday” at dawn and sent a red envelope; in the voice message, she sounded like she was with Jing Miao Miao. Chu Weiran had even called Jing Miao Miao to find Qu Yin last night. How did they break up in a single morning?
Before Jin Yi could ask, Qu Yin sent another message.
Qu Yin: “Are you with Chu Weiran? Let’s talk when you’re back at school. I’m moving my stuff out now.”
Qu Yin was currently at Jing Miao Miao’s place, packing alone. Jing Miao Miao had left at dawn. She had taken a call, gotten dressed in a rush, and said she was going to pick someone up. Qu Yin wasn’t stupid; she knew something was wrong. Jing Miao Miao had looked excited—expectant, even.
“Who are you picking up?” Qu Yin had asked. “A friend.” “What friend?”
At that, Jing Miao Miao had become impatient. “Just a friend. Why are you asking so much?”
Qu Yin’s intuition told her this “friend” was significant. Though they both had complicated histories, they hadn’t had major issues since getting together, aside from one minor misunderstanding. But this was different. Qu Yin threw a tantrum and tried to stop her from going. They argued, and Jing Miao Miao kept checking her watch as if Qu Yin were simply an obstacle.
Stung, Qu Yin snapped, “If you leave now, we’re over.” Jing Miao Miao had simply shrugged. “Suit yourself.” Then she walked out without looking back.
After she left, Qu Yin sat in a daze for a while before she started packing. If it was over, it was over. She wasn’t the type to cling; if the joy was gone, they should part. But it hurt—she wasn’t heartless.
She cleaned the room one last time, a final favor for the mess that Jing Miao Miao usually left behind. She realized then that without her, this place would probably turn back into a “dog house” in days. But that wasn’t her problem anymore.
As she was about to leave, the sadness hit her full force. She called Jin Yi, got declined, and sent the text. Then she remembered it was Jin Yi’s birthday and she was with Chu Weiran, so she quickly followed up saying they’d talk later.
The ringtone finally woke Chu Weiran. She blinked sleepily. “Mm… did my mom call again?”
“No. It was Qu Yin. She said she and Jing Miaomiao broke up.”
“Broke up?” Chu Weiran was surprised. It was so sudden. She knew they might not last forever, but this was fast.
“Yeah. Qu Yin sounds really heartbroken. It’s the first time I’ve seen her take a relationship this seriously.”
In both lives, this was the first time Jin Yi had seen Qu Yin genuinely invested. Usually, Qu Yin treated life like a game. For her to be this upset, Jing Miaomiao must have done something awful.
“Ranran, do you think Jing Miaomiao ever actually liked Qu Yin?”
Chu Weiran looked at her, hesitating. “Hold on.”
She checked Jing Miao Miao’s social media, nothing. Then she checked someone else’s profile. The top post was a photo of two people, posted at 9:00 AM. One of them was Jing Miaomiao.
Chu Weiran looked at Jin Yi solemnly. “Lin Yuan is back.”
“Lin Yuan?” The name was familiar to Jin Yi, but she couldn’t place it.
“A middle school classmate of mine. You met her when we were kids. Jing Miao Miao used to be in love with her.”
