Let Me Go, My Childhood Sweetheart [Rebirth] - Chapter 47
Jin Yi clutched her phone and sprinted all the way to her dorm. She locked the door, climbed onto her bed, and was just about to turn the volume up when she looked at the screen.
Sometime during her run, Chu Weiran had hung up the video call.
Jin Yi’s breath was ragged from the exertion. The disconnected call forced her to calm down a little, and suddenly, a wave of embarrassment washed over her. Running back to the dorm just to video chat with Chu Weiran was so unlike her.
But she couldn’t suppress the craving deep inside. Who could remain indifferent after tasting such a delicacy?
Certainly not Jin Yi. After catching her breath, she dialed the video call back.
As she waited, a smile played on the corners of her lips. But when Chu Weiran finally picked up, that smile instantly collapsed.
The sexy nightgown was gone. Chu Weiran was tucked under the covers, with only her head peeking out. Her clear, dark eyes stared back at her.
Jin Yi: “…” Chu Weiran: “…”
After a moment of silence, Jin Yi spoke first. She cleared her throat slightly to mask her eagerness.
“Why did you hang up?”
“You hung up on me,” Chu Weiran replied, her expression a bit aggrieved. She was clearly the one who felt rejected.
“Uh… I might have hit something by accident while I was running.” Jin Yi felt a bit annoyed with her past self. “I’m sorry, I didn’t mean to.”
Jin Yi looked very serious and sincere during her apology. Chu Weiran almost laughed. To hide it, she pulled the blanket up over her face for a moment, and once she composed herself, she peeked back out with a flat tone. “It was too cold, so I crawled into bed.”
“Oh, right. It is getting cold.”
Winter was arriving fast this year. It was late October; the first snow should be coming soon. Thinking of this, Jin Yi’s mood dipped slightly. She looked at Chu Weiran with a piteous expression, like a puppy.
Chu Weiran’s heart softened at the look. She wanted to pet her poor little puppy. “What’s wrong?”
“Um…” Jin Yi hesitated, feeling a bit shy about saying it out loud.
“Just say it.” Chu Weiran wasn’t exactly a patient person. The tenderness of a moment ago had passed; now she just wanted to know what was on Jin Yi’s mind.
“When the first snow falls… will you be back?”
When Jin Yi was shy, she tended to blink a lot, her long lashes fluttering. It made Chu Weiran’s heart race, and her voice shifted. “Do you miss me?”
This time, Jin Yi didn’t dodge. She admitted it openly. “Yes, I miss you.”
Her large, bright eyes were so honest they made Chu Weiran feel hot. Despite being unclothed under the blanket, the heat made her palms sweat. But it wasn’t enough; she wanted to hear Jin Yi say more.
She pushed her luck. “If you say a few more sweet things, I’ll let you see my body.”
She emphasized the word “body” heavily. Her intent was unmistakable. Jin Yi understood perfectly, and her mind immediately filled with all sorts of chaotic thoughts. She unconsciously licked her lips. She had only tasted that sweetness once—it wasn’t enough!
“Ranran, I miss you so much. I want you to…” Jin Yi’s face flushed, but she gritted her teeth and continued. “I want you to be by my side. I want to hold you while I sleep.”
Satisfied enough, Chu Weiran revealed her arms. It was a clear hint. The nightgown from before had straps; now, her shoulders were bare. Jin Yi blinked, her gaze locking onto those shoulders.
“Do you only want to hold me while you sleep?”
The blanket slid down, revealing a deep cleavage. Chu Weiran wanted to draw the truth out of Jin Yi, bit by bit. She wanted her to say she missed her, loved her, and wanted her.
For the first time, Jin Yi felt her phone screen was too small. When she bought it, she thought it was sufficient, but if she had known this day would come, she would have bought the largest model available. She could see Chu Weiran clearly, yet not clearly enough. Without realizing it, her head moved closer and closer to the screen.
If it weren’t for the glass, Chu Weiran felt Jin Yi would have dived right in.
“Xiao Yi, you’ve changed color.”
“I… I haven’t.” Jin Yi pulled back a bit, shaking her head. When it wasn’t mentioned, she could ignore her blushing, but with Chu Weiran pointing it out, it was impossible to hide. Unwilling to face it, she lowered her head.
Sometimes, Jin Yi didn’t understand why she was like this. She loved this side of Chu Weiran to death, yet whenever the words were spoken, she became too shy to face herself.
Feeling dejected, she blamed Chu Weiran, muttering under her breath, “It’s because you’re too good at this.”
“What did you say?”
Jin Yi kept her head down and didn’t see Chu Weiran’s movements. The blanket had slipped to her waist, revealing her beautiful curves. Chu Weiran had heard her; she just wanted Jin Yi to say it again while the view was clear.
Jin Yi looked up to repeat herself but stopped mid-sentence, mesmerized. Chu Weiran had done exactly what Jin Yi wanted. Her eyes narrowed slightly; it was a vision of beauty Jin Yi would never forget.
“Mm… how does Xiao Yi know I’m ‘good at this’?”
Chu Weiran’s hands were exactly where Jin Yi wanted them to be. The blanket was long gone. The screen was filled with Chu Weiran’s curves as she did exactly what she pleased.
The video call lasted all afternoon. By the end, Chu Weiran was covered in a light sheen of sweat. The screen was even a bit smudged. She didn’t even have the strength to hold the phone, her voice incredibly soft. “Mm… I’m sleepy.”
In contrast, Jin Yi was wide awake, the excitement still surging through her. “Are you free this weekend?”
Chu Weiran was on the verge of sleep. She murmured incoherently, “Hmm? What?”
“I was just asking. I’m afraid you’ll be too tired.”
In truth, Chu Weiran didn’t have much free time. Spending the whole afternoon like this was basically skipping work—though as the boss, she didn’t technically call it that. She thought for a moment. “Probably. I should be free this weekend.” She wasn’t entirely sure.
Jin Yi nodded. “Go to sleep. I’ll stay with you.”
“Mm…” Chu Weiran closed her eyes and drifted off.
When she woke up, it was pitch black outside. Only the phone screen was glowing; Jin Yi was reading a book.
“Are you reading, Records of the Grand Historian?”
Jin Yi was so focused she jumped at the voice. She looked around before returning her gaze to the screen. She sighed. “You scared me. I thought you were back.”
Seeing Jin Yi pouting made Chu Weiran laugh until she started coughing.
“Did you catch a cold?”
“Probably not…”
“You sweated so much this afternoon…”
“Alright, shut up!”
Even if it was intimate play, it was still a bit embarrassing, okay? Chu Weiran realized that she and Jin Yi were shy about completely different things. Before anything happened, Jin Yi was rarely shy, while Chu Weiran would feel embarrassed thinking back on it. But during the act, Chu Weiran wasn’t shy at all, while Jin Yi turned into a blushing mess.
“Why are you reading Records of the Grand Historian again?”
“Um… well…” Jin Yi waved the book in front of her, looking sheepish. “I just wanted to… distract myself.”
Chu Weiran didn’t ask what she was distracting herself from, and Jin Yi didn’t elaborate.
Over the next few days, they maintained their routine. Jin Yi kept busy with her studies, and they would video chat after Chu Weiran finished work, though there were no more “spicy” videos like that one day. They talked about mundane things: Jin Yi’s coursework, Chu Weiran’s job.
The gossipy Qu Yin brought Jin Yi some news. Jin Yi had expected how things would end, but she was surprised by Qin Chaomu’s persistence. It was confirmed at the hospital—Qin Chaomu was pregnant. She subsequently took a leave of absence from school because her health was poor and she needed rest.
Jin Yi had thought Qin Chaomu loved Ye Yuan so desperately she would have done whatever he wanted. Ye Yuan didn’t even want to acknowledge the child. One would think she’d compromise, but she remained surprisingly steadfast this time.
Ye Yuan had already earned the reputation of a man who abandoned his “wife” and child. Someone had dug up the history of their relationship. Rumor had it that Qin Chaomu had already had multiple abortions for him.
When Jin Yi told Chu Weiran about this, the tension in her heart eased significantly. It was probably because the two of them were finally stuck making each other miserable. Chu Weiran, however, wore an expression that Jin Yi couldn’t quite read. But it didn’t seem important, so Jin Yi didn’t dwell on it.
On Friday, Jin Yi decided to give Chu Weiran a surprise. After a brief call in the afternoon, she told Chu Weiran that Qu Yin was taking her out to dinner and they would video chat once she got back to the dorm. Chu Weiran understood, but she still pouted and complained a little.
Jin Yi didn’t have time to soothe her; she had a train to catch. Ling City wasn’t too far from the capital—less than three hours by high-speed rail. Flying was technically faster, but between the distant airport and the check-in times, it wasn’t worth it.
After class, Jin Yi rushed to her dorm to pack. Her train was at 2:30 PM. If she packed now and grabbed a bite at the station, the timing would be perfect. While waiting for the train, she called her mother to tell her she was going to the capital to find Chu Weiran and asked for her room number. After getting the info, she told Jiang Qiong not to disturb her.
When she arrived at the Jinyue Hotel, Jin Yi identified herself and got the key card. The receptionists knew exactly who was staying in that room. Seeing Jin Yi show up, they immediately started imagining a grand drama of childhood sweethearts and arranged marriages—debating who was the “top” and who was the “bottom.”
Most of them bet on Jin Yi. After all, she was tall, and today she was wearing a sharp black wool coat, Doc Martens, and had her hair tied in a neat bun. She looked incredibly “Alpha” and cool.
As the staff whispered, Chu Weiran returned. Her style wasn’t that different from Jin Yi’s today: a matching black trench coat, tight pants, small heels, flawless makeup, and a distant, cool expression.
As she passed, the staff couldn’t lower their voices in time. “Did you see? Couple outfits!” “She’s definitely the ‘bottom’ for sure!”
Chu Weiran turned her head, her cold expression startling them into silence. she hadn’t heard clearly, only catching the word “bottom.” Mostly, she was annoyed that their eyes were glued to her. Her assistant was right behind her, detailing the next day’s schedule.
Chu Weiran listened as she thought, not noticing there was someone else in the elevator. She entered and faced the door while the assistant continued speaking. The elevator stopped. The assistant finished and watched Chu Weiran step out.
Just as she pressed the button for the first floor, the assistant’s eyes went wide. She saw the person who had been behind them suddenly grab her Boss from behind in a hug.
The assistant jumped; Chu Weiran jumped too. “You!”
Chu Weiran turned around to find Jin Yi holding her. Noticing the assistant’s terrified look, Chu Weiran said helplessly, “She’s, my girlfriend.”
Jin Yi’s attention was entirely on Chu Weiran; she hadn’t noticed the assistant at all. She gave a brief, apologetic smile.
After the assistant left, Chu Weiran stared at Jin Yi for a long time before suddenly saying, “On what basis do they call me the ‘bottom’?”
