Let Me Go, My Childhood Sweetheart [Rebirth] - Chapter 38
Looking at the piteous Jin Yi, Chu Weiran felt a sudden pang of distress.
Although she didn’t know the full story yet, she simply couldn’t stand seeing Jin Yi like this. She patted the younger girl’s back and said softly, “Don’t feel bad. You have me now.”
“If hitting him once wasn’t enough to vent your anger, I’ll go with you and we can hit him again.”
Chu Weiran had no idea who Jin Yi had fought, but she simply felt that if Jin Yi was still upset after the fact, the job wasn’t finished.
“Mm… you don’t even know who I hit, and you’re already offering to go back and join in?” Jin Yi pulled back from Chu Weiran’s embrace and stared at her unblinkingly.
“Of course.”
“No matter who it is, if they make my Xiao Yi feel wronged, I won’t let them off.”
Regardless of the method, letting Jin Yi suffer was unacceptable. If she hadn’t hit them enough to feel better, then they would keep hitting until she did.
Jin Yi stared at her, her eyes wide with surprise, a warm current flowing through her heart. Looking at Chu Weiran’s delicate, pretty face, she leaned in and gave her a firm mwah on the cheek.
Chu Weiran froze for a second, then felt the damp warmth on her skin where Jin Yi had kissed her.
“I ran into Ye Yuan just now. He said some horrible things… I couldn’t hold back and punched him.”
“Mm… you did well. Do we need to go back and hit him some more?”
Hearing this made Jin Yi feel a sense of vindication, and her earlier frustration vanished. Actually, the fact that she felt wronged despite winning the fight was a bit bizarre. She had instinctively wanted to act spoiled the moment she saw Chu Weiran, but hearing those words made her realize something.
Even though she had no connection to Ye Yuan in this life and never would, hearing those vile words had triggered memories of her past life. Ye Yuan was Chu Weiran’s fiancé then—nominally or otherwise. It was only natural for her to feel “wronged” on Chu Weiran’s behalf.
“Don’t go. You can’t win a fight anyway.”
“Besides, I hit him pretty hard just now…” Jin Yi rubbed her nose, feeling a bit sheepish. It wasn’t regret; she just felt she’d been a bit impulsive. If those two came looking for medical expenses, it would be a hassle. It wasn’t about the money—she just found them incredibly annoying.
“Alright. If you don’t want to go, we won’t go.” Chu Weiran knew Jin Yi didn’t like fighting; those two must have really crossed a line.
“From now on, don’t come to find me. I’ll go to you,” Jin Yi added.
“No!”
“Why?” Chu Weiran tilted her head, not understanding. Why was Jin Yi using such a bossy tone?
“I don’t want you to run into them either.” Jin Yi lowered her head, tugging at Chu Weiran’s sleeve. After saying it, she felt a bit embarrassed. It was rare for her to be this assertive. “I… I just don’t want you to encounter them.”
“I don’t want you to encounter them either! Besides… we’re in the same department, occasionally…”
“Still, no. Those two scumbags…” Jin Yi panicked, nearly blurting out the sordid details of their future. Chu Weiran didn’t know about those things yet, and Jin Yi had no way to explain them. “Just don’t worry about it. I’ll be careful from now on.”
This was truly the first time Jin Yi had been this dominant in front of her, leaving her no room to argue.
“Shall we go inside then?” They had been lingering downstairs for quite a while, and Chu Weiran wanted to get upstairs to be even more intimate.
“Mm… okay.” Jin Yi nodded obediently and followed her.
The moment they entered the room, before Jin Yi could say a word, she was pinned against the wall. Chu Weiran, being shorter, clearly stood on her tiptoes, pressing Jin Yi’s head down to kiss her.
Jin Yi didn’t dare move, letting Chu Weiran take the lead. This kiss was softer and more delicate than Jin Yi had imagined. It wasn’t until her tongue felt numb that she snapped out of it, spun Chu Weiran around, and pinned her against the wall instead.
This position felt more natural to Jin Yi, but Chu Weiran wasn’t having it. When Jin Yi leaned in to kiss her, she turned her head away.
“Mm… why?” Jin Yi gripped her firmly, trying to turn her face back.
“Xiao Yi, let your sister be the one to kiss you, okay?”
“Huh…??”
Chu Weiran wrapped her arms around Jin Yi’s neck and claimed her lips again. This time was much more dominant. Before long, Jin Yi’s awareness began to scatter, her hands roaming over Chu Weiran’s back as she pressed closer.
Without even realizing it, the dynamic shifted again. From aggressive, Chu Weiran became soft and boneless, slumping against Jin Yi as she ran out of breath from the kiss.
“Mm… Xiao Yi… why are you…?” Chu Weiran pouted slightly, poking Jin Yi’s collarbone. “Why are you suddenly so forceful with me?”
Jin Yi hadn’t felt embarrassed while she was lost in the moment, but now her sense of shame came rushing back. She quickly let go and stepped back.
“I… I didn’t mean to!”
After backing up a few steps, she realized their positions hadn’t changed at all. Chu Weiran was still clinging to her—as Jin Yi retreated, she simply followed.
“I was trying to give you a wall-slam (kabedon), but I didn’t expect you to learn it so fast.” Chu Weiran felt that she would definitely be the more exhausted one in this relationship because Jin Yi was so shy. But that moment just now had completely subverted her expectations.
Jin Yi’s movements were quite dominant, even if she didn’t realize it herself.
“You’re younger, your sister should be the one taking care of you, understand?”
She expected Jin Yi to agree, but Jin Yi shook her head and said decisively, “No. I am the one who is going to take care of you.”
Chu Weiran wondered if Jin Yi actually understood what she meant by “taking care of.”
“Forget it. Let’s go shower first.” She didn’t want to argue about it anymore.
This was their first time sharing a bed—and a bath—since the holiday ended. The bed was fine, but the bath… after what just happened and the memories of their previous bath, Jin Yi felt apprehensive. She was afraid she wouldn’t be able to control herself, just like that drunken night.
“You go shower first.”
“What’s wrong?”
Jin Yi looked at the bathroom and said with a straight face, “It’s too small. It’s not convenient for two people.”
Chu Weiran followed her gaze. She supposed Jin Yi had a point. She rested her chin on her hand, thinking for a moment before saying something that made Jin Yi even more flustered.
“Should we go stay at an apartment tonight?”
Jin Yi’s eyes widened and she shook her head frantically. “No!”
“Why not?”
“I… I actually have an apartment nearby. We could move there.”
The suggestions were getting more and more outrageous, and Chu Weiran acted as if she hadn’t heard the “no” at all.
“I…” Trying to change the subject, Jin Yi asked, “Isn’t Senior Jing coming back tonight?”
“I don’t know. Probably not.”
“Probably?”
“Mm.” Chu Weiran nodded and went to rummage for pajamas. She had anticipated this possibility, so she had prepared pajamas for Jin Yi before returning to school. Of course, Jin Yi didn’t know.
“But you told me you were alone tonight.”
“If I hadn’t said that, would you have come over to stay?”
“This… it’s so inconvenient. Wait, what are you holding?”
Chu Weiran pulled out a set of pajamas. The collar and cuffs were covered in… carrots. The color was basically carrot-orange too.
“What are you doing with those?!!!”
Chu Weiran held the pajamas up in front of her. “Mm, I bought these for you. Aren’t they cute?”
Jin Yi backed away two steps in disbelief. “You… you… don’t tell me you bought a little bunny set for yourself?”
“What are you thinking? Bunnies are too childish.” She wasn’t about to wear something that immature.
Jin Yi pointed at herself, then at the pajamas. “And I’m suited for something this childish?”
“Mm-hmm. You’re perfect for it.”
Jin Yi instinctively rolled her eyes. She was in her early twenties; she couldn’t handle pajamas this “cute.” “I am not suited for this.”
“Why not?” Chu Weiran genuinely didn’t understand, her eyes wide. “They’re so adorable…”
“That’s why they suit you. You’re so adorable~”
In the end, under Chu Weiran’s forceful persistence, Jin Yi changed into the outfit. Jin Yi had a pure and “cute” look naturally, though she didn’t smile much. When she did, she looked exceptionally sweet and much younger than her age. Chu Weiran knew this, so no matter how much Jin Yi resisted, she was going to make her wear them. Even the resistant expression on Jin Yi’s face was fine.
Once Jin Yi was dressed, Chu Weiran gave a lovely laugh and pinched Jin Yi’s cheek. “So cute~” Then she pinched it again. “Just adorable.”
Jin Yi could already imagine that her future life would involve plenty of these “childish” outfits. Seeing how well this one worked, Chu Weiran was already back to browsing online stores.
“Go change and shower, I’m going to look some more.”
“Then why did I have to put them on now?” Jin Yi looked miserable and made no move to undress.
Chu Weiran put her phone down and gave a sly smile. “Then keep wearing them. We can just go straight to sleep; I don’t mind.”
“No. I’m going to shower.” Jin Yi turned around, pulled the pajamas off, set them beside Chu Weiran, and headed for the shower.
By the time she came out, Chu Weiran had finished her shopping, having selected several more sets—one with little dinosaurs, another with Pikachu. She was very satisfied. She looked up with a smile, only to find Jin Yi standing there looking resentful.
Chu Weiran blinked, playing dumb. “What’s wrong?”
“Don’t buy any more. I don’t want to wear them.”
“Then wear this set properly, and I won’t buy the others.” Chu Weiran pointed to the folded pajamas beside her.
Jin Yi pouted but helplessly put them back on. She told herself she was doing it to prevent a whole wardrobe of similar clothes, but even after putting them on, she couldn’t get past her internal resistance. She tugged at the fabric. “I still don’t like them.”
“Why?”
“Because they’re childish.”
“But they suit you so well.”
The conversation had looped back to the beginning. Jin Yi’s head slumped, and even the plush carrots on her hood slumped with her. It was quite moe.
Chu Weiran jumped off the bed and poked at the carrots, tugging on them. “Xiao Yi is so moe.”
“I am not! Not moe!”
“So moe!”
“Extremely moe!”
Jin Yi was speechless. She reached up to pull the hood off, but Chu Weiran caught her hands. “Don’t…”
Before Chu Weiran could finish, the door was suddenly pushed open. Before they could even see the person, they heard a familiar voice: “Are you two doing something NSFW? Why are you shouting ‘Don’t’ so loudly?”
The person entering was Jing Miaomiao. She had overheard the “So moe” comment as she pushed the door, but it was too late to stop. She never expected to open the door and see Chu Weiran talking to a giant carrot.
