Let Me Go, My Childhood Sweetheart [Rebirth] - Chapter 32
When the piercing sunlight spilled into the room, Jin Yi opened her eyes for a moment, then squeezed them shut again.
She was so sleepy.
She rolled over, her hand landing casually on something soft and smooth. It felt like a person.
Startled, Jin Yi bolted upright in bed and froze for a long while. She was at Chu Weiran’s house, which meant.
She lifted the covers and glanced down. She wasn’t wearing any clothes.
Trembling, she lifted the edge of the blanket next to her. Sure enough, it was a naked Chu Weiran.
What on earth happened last night?
She only remembered scattered fragments: drinking with Qu Yin, hugging Chu Weiran by the car… and something in the bathroom?
Mom, I’m no longer “pure.” I’ve been… by your goddaughter.
Jin Yi rolled out of bed, standing barefoot on the floor, feeling completely at a loss. She didn’t know what to do next, so she just stood there like a fool until Chu Weiran rolled over. Opening her eyes dizzily, Chu Weiran asked, “Mm… why are you standing on the floor instead of sleeping?”
Then she fell back asleep, right in the spot where Jin Yi had been lying.
Finally snapping out of it, Jin Yi knelt by the bedside and whispered urgently, “Chu Weiran, wake up.” She needed to know exactly what happened last night.
After being called for several minutes, Chu Weiran finally woke up. She looked a bit dazed at the sight of Jin Yi, but unlike her companion, she hadn’t been drunk; she remembered everything. She remembered Jin Yi saying she liked her, and then saying she couldn’t like her. It was all a chaotic mess.
“Did we… did anything happen between us?” Jin Yi’s voice trembled. She even closed her eyes, afraid of seeing something she shouldn’t on Chu Weiran’s body.
“You forgot? Last night in the bathroom…”
The bathroom? Was their “first time” really in the bathroom?
Seeing that Jin Yi remembered nothing, Chu Weiran felt a mischievous urge to tease her. “Last night, you said you wanted to help me. Then you pinned me against the wall in the bathroom…” Chu Weiran, still unclothed, pointed toward her chest. “You made it hurt so much right here.”
The hint was beyond obvious. It was practically a direct statement. Chu Weiran wasn’t lying; the drunken Jin Yi had zero sense of moderation. The area was red and even slightly swollen.
Jin Yi saw it, and her mind felt like it was fracturing. She had tried so hard to control her heart, yet after drinking, she had actually behaved like such a beast!
“I…” Her mind was a jumbled mess. She didn’t know what to say.
“Pfft!” Chu Weiran finally couldn’t hold it in and burst out laughing. “Xiao Yi, you look so confused.”
She rolled out of bed, intending to pat Jin Yi’s head, but noticed the other girl was staring fixedly at the bed behind her.
“What is it?”
Jin Yi took a deep breath, adjusting her state of mind. She looked at Chu Weiran with a dead-serious expression. “I will take responsibility for you.”
“What?” Chu Weiran blinked. Responsibility? Did she hear that right? Jin Yi was actually going to take responsibility just for this?
Before she could ask more, Jin Yi brushed past her, yanked back the duvet, and pulled off the bedsheet. Chu Weiran looked down and saw… bloodstains.
Realizing Chu Weiran was looking at the sheet, Jin Yi’s face flushed. She stammered, “Don’t worry. I mean what I say.” Then, she marched out of the room carrying the sheet.
A moment later, Chu Weiran heard the sound of the washing machine starting up.
Jin Yi returned shortly, standing at the doorway with a red face. “Put some clothes on. Don’t catch a cold.” Then she bolted away again.
Reeking of alcohol, Jin Yi went downstairs to take a shower. She needed to get away from Chu Weiran and calm down! After showering, she sat at the dining table, staring into space.
Last night’s memories were a blur, just fragments. But those fragments were far too… erotic. She covered her face, overwhelmed by embarrassment. But since things had already happened, she didn’t intend to run away.
“Chu…” She opened her mouth to ask Chu Weiran what she wanted to eat, but suddenly remembered the way she had addressed her last night: Ranran.
How intimate that sounded. Jin Yi had never called her that to her face; she only followed suit when her mother used the name. She swallowed the nickname back down. “Weiran… you…”
Argh! This is so awkward! Someone save me! She took a deep breath, reminding herself that this mess was her own fault for getting drunk.
While she was struggling internally, Chu Weiran came downstairs. She had just showered and was wrapped in a bath towel, her small, rounded shoulders exposed and water dripping from her hair. Jin Yi forgot her internal conflict and frowned. “Why didn’t you dry your hair?”
Chu Weiran stopped at the bottom of the stairs and said with a sweet smile, “I’m so tired. You help me…”
Feeling guilty and responsible, Jin Yi couldn’t refuse. She went to get the hairdryer. When she returned, Chu Weiran was still standing there. Jin Yi gestured for her to come over, but Chu Weiran’s face suddenly turned red. Biting her lip, she said, “My legs are sore. Will you carry me?”
“…Fine.”
Jin Yi set down the hairdryer, walked over, and swept her up in a bridal carry without a word. Chu Weiran clung to her shoulders, burying her face in Jin Yi’s chest.
“You’re so strong. You were last night, too.”
“Don’t… stop talking!”
“Oh.”
After drying her hair, Jin Yi told her to go change. Chu Weiran started acting spoiled again. “I’m exhausted. I can’t even get my clothes on.”
“Surely… I can’t help you with that too?”
“You could help me take them off, so why can’t you help me put them on?”
Jin Yi was at a loss. She had never dealt with anything like this in her life. She didn’t know what to do, especially since Chu Weiran seemed to know exactly which buttons to push to keep her pinned down.
“I… I’ll go get your clothes for you, okay?” Jin Yi looked like she was heading off to a heroic sacrifice. Chu Weiran couldn’t hold back anymore and laughed out loud.
“What’s so funny?” Jin Yi asked, flustered.
Chu Weiran waved a hand. “Nothing. I was just teasing you. I’ll change myself.” In truth, her skin wasn’t that thick; it was just that Jin Yi was even more thin-skinned. She wouldn’t actually let Jin Yi dress her.
Halfway up the stairs, Chu Weiran turned back. “Xiao Yi, I want congee.”
“Okay.”
Chu Weiran changed into cotton pajamas and lay on the bed for a while, feeling sleepy again. Just as she was drifting off, a sharp pain shot through her lower abdomen. She opened her eyes, a flash of annoyance in her gaze as she rubbed her stomach.
Her period had started.
So, Jin Yi had misunderstood. The misunderstanding was temporary, and Jin Yi was bound to find out eventually—Chu Weiran didn’t intend to let the lie linger. But… it was a bit of a pity. If she had known Jin Yi would be this ready to take responsibility, she would have made sure Jin Yi actually did those unspeakable things last night.
She felt a moment of regret. Then—Ouch, it hurts! Chu Weiran furrowed her brows, keeping her hand on her abdomen and eyes half-closed as she massaged the pain. Eventually, she fell asleep.
She was finally woken up by a delicious aroma wafting from downstairs. She was starving. Being on her period was miserable—hungry, sleepy, and in pain. She really wanted a hug from Xiao Yi.
She picked up her phone and sent Jin Yi a voice message. Downstairs, Jin Yi had just ladled out the congee when her phone rang. She was surprised it was Chu Weiran; they were in the same house, why not just shout? She answered anyway.
“What is it?”
Hearing Jin Yi’s gentle voice, Chu Weiran felt even more piteous. “Waa… Xiao Yi…”
Jin Yi panicked at the sound. “What… what’s wrong?”
“I’m so hungry, and I feel terrible…”
Jin Yi set down her phone and carried the congee upstairs immediately. At the door, she saw Chu Weiran with a pouting lip and tears in her eyes. Her heart melted instantly.
“What happened?” her voice softened.
“My stomach hurts…”
Jin Yi sat on the edge of the bed and tried to pull Chu Weiran toward her by the shoulders, but Chu Weiran resisted slightly. “You get in. Hold me.”
“Oh, okay.”
She set the congee aside, kicked off her shoes, and climbed into bed. The moment she settled, Chu Weiran dove into her arms, clutching her collar like a lost child. “Will you feed me?”
“Okay.”
Jin Yi sat upright against the headboard, letting Chu Weiran lean into her embrace. She held her with one arm and fed her with the other. “Open up…”
“Ah…”
Chu Weiran took small bites, chewing slowly before swallowing. She was genuinely hungry, so her movements were a bit restless, causing her collar to gape open.
The soft, pale curves of her chest were right in Jin Yi’s line of sight. She tried to look away but couldn’t; Chu Weiran had her pinned down. She could only see the red marks she had left. She felt both guilty and distressed. How could I be so stupid? She had left Chu Weiran’s delicate skin in such a state.
Chu Weiran was eating happily until she noticed the feeding had stopped. Jin Yi was staring directly at…
She pulled her clothes tight. Jin Yi’s gaze moved up to her face, her eyes looking almost as if they were lingering on the sight. You little duplicitous troublemaker.
“I’m full,” Chu Weiran said. Then, acting spoiled, she added, “My stomach hurts. Rub it for me.”
Jin Yi thought to herself: Oh no, I must have been too rough last night while drunk. She frowned with concern and began gently massaging Chu Weiran’s abdomen. Noticing how cold her hands and feet were, she held one of Chu Weiran’s hands in hers and tucked the girl’s feet against her own calves.
“Is that better?”
Chu Weiran snuggled into Jin Yi’s arms, letting out a soft hum of contentment. “Mm…”
The morning had been far too stimulating. Last night’s memories were hazy, and Jin Yi seeing the blood on the sheets, had assumed they had done “it.” But looking at the situation now, she felt something was off. This didn’t seem like the aftermath of that. It seemed more like a period.
If it was her period then the thing, she thought happened probably didn’t happen at all.
A flash of relief went through her, followed quickly by a strange sense of emptiness. If nothing happened, she didn’t have to take responsibility. She should be happy, yet… she felt a bit deflated.
Holding Chu Weiran’s soft body, Jin Yi’s thoughts turned elsewhere. Chu Weiran, lying in her arms with her eyes closed, looked adorable and sweet, stripped of her usual bossy aura. Her features were beautiful her straight nose, the tiny mole at the corner of her mouth. From this angle, she looked small and precious. When she opened her eyes, she looked a bit sexy.
Suddenly, Jin Yi felt a pang of bitterness. If this version of Chu Weiran belonged to someone else… she felt she wouldn’t be able to stand it. A sour ache filled her chest. She hadn’t felt this in her past life; she had never truly appreciated Chu Weiran’s good points. But now, the thought of Chu Weiran marrying and having children with someone else made her heart physically ache.
