Let Me Go, My Childhood Sweetheart [Rebirth] - Chapter 18
After Jing Miaomiao left, Chu Weiran also began to get ready. In truth, she preferred dressing in a more mature style, but she felt it did not suit her current age. Most importantly, she believed Jin Yi liked the pure and gentle type.
Because of this, she had recently bought several outfits in a “pure” style, such as white lace dresses. Today, however, she wanted to change things up. After standing in front of her wardrobe for a long while, she finally chose an outfit similar to what Jin Yi usually wore: a T-shirt and jeans. She applied light makeup, tied her hair into a ponytail, and headed out.
She was going to ask her “underclassman” out on a date.
She had sent Jin Yi several WeChat messages, but Jin Yi had not replied, so she had to visit in person. Chu Weiran knew exactly which building Jin Yi lived in because she had visited secretly in her past life. This was the first time she was visiting openly. In this new life, her obsession remained Jin Yi, and this time, Jin Yi was giving her infinite hope.
Standing at the door, Chu Weiran tidied her clothes and knocked gently. Before coming, she had prepared herself. If Jin Yi was unwilling to go shopping, she would act cute and plead. If that still did not work, they could just go out to eat. She never considered the possibility that Jin Yi simply was not paying attention.
After knocking for ten minutes, Jin Yi still had not opened the door. Seeing no other choice, she called Jin Yi. As soon as the call connected, Chu Weiran heard a ringtone coming from inside the room.
Shortly after Qu Yin had left, Jin Yi still felt sleepy and had gone back to bed. She did not expect to be awakened by a phone call so soon after falling asleep. Dazed, she grabbed her phone and answered without even looking at the screen.
“Hello?”
Jin Yi’s voice was soft and sweet from sleep. Chu Weiran was so captivated by the sound that she momentarily forgot to respond. Then, Jin Yi hung up the phone. Chu Weiran was stunned for a moment and considered calling back, but then she decided against it. She should let her sleep; they could eat together anytime. Although she felt a bit down, caring for Jin Yi was more important.
As Chu Weiran put her phone back in her bag and prepared to leave, her phone rang. Instinctively knowing it was Jin Yi, she answered without looking. Her voice was full of excitement. “Xiao Yi!”
“Um, did you just call me?”
Jin Yi sounded more awake now. Her voice was not as soft as before, but Chu Weiran still loved it. Unable to hide her smile, Chu Weiran said, “Yes, I called you.”
“Where are you?”
“I am at your door.”
Chu Weiran rushed to answer before Jin Yi could even finish the question. The excitement in her tone was impossible to ignore. Jin Yi did not quite understand what was happening until Chu Weiran spoke again. “Xiao Yi, open the door for me.”
“Oh, okay. Wait a second.”
Jin Yi scrambled out of bed and ran to the door without even putting her shoes on properly. The moment she opened the door, Chu Weiran was smiling, but her expression suddenly turned serious.
Looking down where Chu Weiran was staring, Jin Yi realized she was only wearing a camisole and underwear.
“Ah! Wait a second!”
Jin Yi felt her face must be incredibly red. How could she have done that?
The door was not fully closed, and through the crack, Chu Weiran saw Jin Yi leaning over to find clothes. Her long, straight black hair draped over her back, highlighting her long legs and slim waist. Her figure was lovely, and her underwear even featured a cartoon kitten.
Chu Weiran swallowed instinctively and then felt ashamed of her own reaction. When she saw Jin Yi open the door dressed like that, she almost felt angry. If it had been anyone else, would Jin Yi have opened the door in the same state? It was too revealing; it was not good.
A few minutes later, Jin Yi came out with a lingering flush on her face. She said softly, “Did you wait long? Come in.”
Chu Weiran had never actually been inside Jin Yi’s dorm, but she had visited Jin Yi’s bedroom many times when they were children, so she felt a sense of familiarity. It was much the same as before; she still loved anime and cartoons. There were cute plush pillows at the head of the bed and favorite anime figures on the desk.
Jin Yi pulled out a chair for Chu Weiran but noticed she was staring blankly at the desk. She walked over and asked, “What is it?”
“You still like her?” Chu Weiran asked, pointing to the anime character on the desk.
“Yes, I still do.”
Jin Yi was a very loyal person; once she liked something, she liked it forever. By that logic, if she hated someone, would she hate them forever too?
“Then, do you hate me?”
As soon as she asked, the atmosphere turned awkward. Chu Weiran regretted speaking without thinking. She worried that she might not like the answer Jin Yi gave.
Jin Yi was surprised by the question. She did not actually hate Chu Weiran; she was just a bit afraid of her. But current Chu Weiran was very soft in both her tone and her actions.
Chu Weiran was standing with her back to her. After asking the question, she gripped her hands tightly and stood very straight, looking quite nervous.
“I do not hate you,” Jin Yi said softly.
She saw Chu Weiran’s body relax. Then, Chu Weiran said with a hint of mock disdain, “How old are you, and you still like anime?”
Jin Yi remembered that when Chu Weiran was her age, she had liked it too. Back then, when Jin Yi tried to avoid her, Chu Weiran would use her favorite anime to tease her and try to get her to play.
“I just like it. I will always like it.”
“You.”
Chu Weiran turned around and looked at Jin Yi’s playful expression. It felt as if they were children again, and her heart felt full and tender.
Seeing her strange expression, Jin Yi stepped forward and grabbed her arm. “What is wrong?”
“Nothing, it is just.” Chu Weiran was startled by her concern and stammered.
“What is it exactly?” Jin Yi was terrified by Chu Weiran’s sudden change in mood.
“It is nothing. I just wanted to go shopping with you and was afraid you would not go.”
From bittersweet to pure sweetness, only Jin Yi could move her emotions like this. Because of Jin Yi’s concern, all the messy thoughts in Chu Weiran’s head vanished.
Jin Yi could ignore a bossy and willful Chu Weiran, but she could not ignore this soft and piteous version of her. She even felt like reaching out to pat Chu Weiran on the head, just as Chu Weiran used to do to her when they were little.
Thinking this, she actually did it. She was slightly taller than Chu Weiran, so it was effortless. Chu Weiran looked up at her with watery eyes full of an indescribable deep affection.
Jin Yi’s voice softened as if she were comforting a child. “If you want to go, I will go with you. There is nothing to be afraid of.”
